The St. Julep is the newest rooftop bar to hit the Atlanta scene. The rooftop itself is awesome and reminds me of rooftop vibes I've had in NYC. Interior of this place was well decorated and it would be the perfect place to casually gather with friends or grab drinks with a date. Parking is valet only, but there is a paid lot across the street and also street parking in the vicinity.
The low review is for the LACKLUSTER SERVICE. We went on the first Friday they were open and I called ahead to see if I would need any reservations. Unfortunately, the bar has no number attached so I reached out to the concierge at the hotel. He informed me that they do not take reservations and it was "first come first serve." Fast forward to the night of our visit. We arrive and there's no hostess at the stand, so we seat ourselves at an empty table and look at their website for a drink menu. The hostess immediately runs over and tells us that the seats are reserved, and additionally are only for parties of 6 or more. I explained that I called earlier to specifically make reservations and that our party was 6 people. She did not seem to care and asked us to move to the bar. We put our name on her waiting list and she stated that there were 5 parties ahead of us. We then understandingly moved to the bar. *Within seconds* an elderly couple sat down at the seats and she allowed them to stay and order drinks without question. That immediately rubbed us the wrong way. (The table remained empty the rest of the night and she never ended up calling us...)
After having waited for months to visit this place, we decided to suck it up and keep trying. As we patiently waited for the bar staff to approach us, we got ignored repeatedly as the bartender served a group that sat down minutes after us. We stop a busboy and ask for a menu and immediately realize why most people are only drinking beer. The cocktails are extremely overpriced!! Not only that, but their prices are higher than listed online! The cocktails were tasty, but had lots of ice. The snacks were fairly priced though and I wish I had tried the Szechuan tots. In the end, we walked down the street to The Regent Cocktail Club and had great service, no hassle with seating, and still got a rooftop experience.
Something tells me the staff here may have some implicit bias against our skin tones...but this is Buckhead so that's sadly to be expected. read more
