I was visiting Covington, LA and needed a nice little coffee shop spot to get some work done and it seemed St. John's Coffeehouse would fit my needs. This location is a nice spot in downtown Covington to enjoy some good coffee, some food and other beverages. They also had very fast Wi-Fi which made getting my work done far easier. St. John's Coffeehouse exceeded my expectations and I really enjoyed my experience here. Overall Louisiana coffee shops are often special places and this is another unique spot to enjoy your coffee, tea and other beverages and some food items at so you might want to consider a visit to St. John's Coffeehouse if you find yourself in Covington, LA. I only came in for coffee, so my review of this cafe is somewhat limited. The staff was nice enough and service was prompt. On a Saturday morning, the place started to slowly fill up with townspeople shopping during the busy homecoming season. While many patrons came in in pairs, or with someone to share their coffee with, I was there alone while waiting on another appointment nearby. As a solo patron, I did appreciate their lending library, board games and the art hanging (for commission) around the shop to look at. I will for sure be back. Coffee was good, and I suspect the bakery/cafe offerings are much better earlier in the morning when they received fresh stock. read more

I have visited this coffeehouse a few times over the years when I am in town for work. The place is quaint and typically opens every morning at 7am. It's pretty popular in the neighborhood since there are always people working and talking and drinking coffee. The people that work here are always nice and they have a great selection of drinks and coffee plus a selection of baked items and sandwiches for lunch. After only one visit, I may have found my new favorite coffee shop on the Northshore. To me, a coffee shop should be more than just a place to get a cup of coffee. It should be a cool and relaxed place to hang out, work, or even discuss complex world problems. For years I have a had a place like this in New Orleans (Mojo Coffee), but I didn't think I would ever find one on this side of the lake. Oddly enough I learned of St. John's while at Mojo in New Orleans. While talking with a friend, he recommend I try St. John's. I am thankful that I listened because after one visit, I know that he was absolutely right. St. John's is everything I look for in a coffee shop. Located in old Covington, the building is old, but well maintained. This gives it much more character than a purpose built modern shop. The daytime vibe was very subdued and relaxed. Although I just stopped in for a coffee to go, I would have felt at ease sitting there for several hours. Next time I have some time to kill, I will probably do it here. My iced coffee was very good, and without a doubt, the best I've had on the Northshore. I really liked St. John's. If you are in the mood for a non-chain place with a great atmosphere and great coffee, give St. John's a try. Note: It looked like they even sold beer and have concerts. It's been six years since I've given respect to St. John's Coffeehouse and it bears mentioning, especially since I had neglected to do so in my initial review, that the iced coffee here is really REALLY good. Sensationally smooth, slightly nutty like I like it and not at all bitter nor acidic, like I don't like it. There's a humbleness about this place that I truly appreciate, especially in a time when coffee making can be an art and an unapproachable, or downright off-putting art at that. Here, it's a throwback to the 1990s coffeehouses where I cut my teeth. A time when no one even knew or cared what a pour over or single origin was (I'm not knocking either. I appreciate progress as much as the next person). A time where it would be more likely to see patrons chatting, reading a book, writing in a journal or playing a game while sipping their latte rather than tapping on a keyboard. St. John's makes me feel nostalgic for those times (and they have reading material, games, etc for real). read more

I love the decor and feel of this coffee shop! The guy behind the counter was more than friendly and made our drinks quickly. They also have decaffeinated expresso which not all places carry. Offering a variety of alternative milks and your usual coffee gems, plus some treats and sandwiches. I would have given four stars had the expresso itself been more flavorful. I was disappointed with the subtle lost flavors since I tend to favor the bold. Also, the chocolate they use is Hershey's syrup, in my opinion a less than quality chocolate unless you are an 8 year old with a bowl of vanilla ice cream. There's way better chocolate for making a tasty mich, please invest in a better product to move your mocha to next level status. read more

St. John's Coffeehouse is uber cool. It's located in a building called The Frederick Building which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Cool, right? Even cooler is the fact that St. John's Coffeehouse is the only space in the building with the original flooring, ceilings and wanes coating. The vibe in here is super laid back and chill. I love this little place. It's a great spot in lovely downtown Covington (which is so awesome, by the way, it deserves a review of its own) for people watching, doing homework, catching up with a friend, business meeting, gazing into your lovers eyes, doing work....you get the gist. I loved this coffee shop in downtown Covington. The staff was really kind to my indecisive mother and she loved her mocha frozen thingy (with whipped cream). I had a super strong iced tea...which was excellent. The atmosphere is great and the decor is fun and eclectic. OK the signs are a bit silly. And I hear from the 17 year old niece that this can be a total teen hangout (which could be annoying) but it was mostly empty on Saturday evening around dinner time when I stopped in. I had a breakfast sandwich that was lukewarm on the outside, cold on the inside. My first warning was seeing it premade in a display cooler. My second warning was seeing it being warmed for almost a whole minute in a toaster oven. I was one of five customers and there were two people working. If Tim Burton opened a coffeehouse, I imagine it would be like this. Stopped to grab coffee with friends and honestly we thought this is where they were pointing us but it was actually a place down the street. I wish I could explain the expression on the barista's face, except that there wasn't one....disdain maybe? It was a group of 8 people and she seemed happiest when we decided to leave and go down the street. Place was like a creepy library, nearly silent. It was dark...everyone was on laptops (I'm assuming there's free WiFi). Only my husband and I ended up with coffee (we decided to leave after our friends saw the abysmal service we were getting). Husband threw out his coffee because he disliked it so much. Might be a good place to write your next dark novel.... read more

One of the oldest, and best, coffee houses around. Yes, it's right in the downtown, and walking to it is easy, but still worth the drive if you haven't been here. I'm not really the hipster type that likes to hang out at coffee shops and mull over my intricate playlist of obscure indie albums....but if I was....I would definitely hang out at St. John's Coffeehouse! This little coffee gem has been an old favorite of mine since I went to high school down the street from it, and still continues to be a mandatory stop-in whenever I come back in town. This is the only coffee shop that I can say truly makes everything in-house, made to order, fresh, every time. Not a big coffee drinker? Don't let that stop you from popping in! The milkshakes and smoothies are great here too! They always have an assortment of fresh baked pastries, desserts, and sandwiches on display. The staff there are always super friendly and helpful if your one of those coffee people who has a lot of obscure special requests. You know who you are. I was surprised with a date in Old Covington on Friday, and we wandered into this coffeehouse literally at random. It was a good decision. There was a live band playing funk music, and at one point they had a spoken word/beat poet set that was amazing. I think my partner-type-person left a $20 tip for them on our way out. We had chai lattes, which were actually kind of generic, but they were topped with mountains of foam, and since I'm not the biggest fan of chai lattes (I'd already been sufficiently coffeed up for the day), I don't think I can hold that against them. The shop had a perfect, mellow vibe. The crowd skewed older, and there were a couple people who'd get up and dance to the music. The barista was super nice and was wearing a nerdy t-shirt, which was fun. The shop is in a great location; I'm not very familiar with the area, but it seems to be in the middle of everything. It really added the perfect touch to our date, and set the mood for a night of chill relaxation. read more

I know my coffee. Heck, I worked in the coffee business for 3 years and ran 2 different coffee houses in those years. St. John's has great coffee and customer service. However, they use styrofoam cups!!! In today's day and age, I don't really think it's a smart move for any establishment that serves drinks to-go to serve it in styrofoam. Come on. I would have rated it 5 stars before. I have had coffer there twice a week for the last 8 years. Always the best in town, until today 1.25.2021. A new guy working made the worst cup of coffee i ever had in my life. I saw him put hot water in the cup than 3 pumps pf coffee from a canister. I told him about it. He clams he makes coffee the same way for 20 years and worked there 10 years. I never saw this b.s. ter guy there before last week and he did not make my coffee at that time. I will never have coffee there as long as that b.s.ter works there. With his ha ha ha after every sentence. He never offered another cup in place of the bad one. read more

My sister recommended this place to me. I was encouraged by the location and aesthetic of the place. My initial positive vibes were nullified by the incredibly disinterested employee behind the counter. He was useless and agitated by the seemingly overwhelming number of customers - three. At tfirst I thought he must be new, but then I realized only a long term employee can have such disregard for customers and doing their job. He did perk up when the wife of a local barrister came in and turned on the charm. As soon as she left, i twas back to the sitting and reading. I waited a good 5 minutes at the counter for him to appear from the back. I had to rudely clang my coffee mug to alert him there was customer. A refill of drip coffee was $1.50 or so. Crazy.
