My first visit here was strictly exploratory, this is what RVers do, although online research can…read moreprovide you with a pretty good snap shot nothing can replace a visit - while staying at another campground in the area my camp neighbors suggested that I check this place out before leaving the area, after he and his wife described the property i couldn't resist. I arrived here with pretty high expectations not all of them necessarily dependent on a high end resort experience but more towards a quiet relaxing setting with a beautiful view, a well maintained facility with full hookups that can accommodate my MotorCoach and great management. I stopped in at the camp store / office to meet the staff prior to just driving through I was a little surprised to see such a beautifully stocked camp store they have all the necessities and more. I was greeted by Steve and after learning a little about the ownership and a little bit of the history here I was offered a short tour to the lake view site I was interested in. This place is exactly what I was hoping it would be, small, quiet and well maintained, the road is rock based and well maintained as are the sites, the sites have great utilities, fire rings, the campground has a inviting swimming pool, a beautiful fishing pier, boat docks it's definitely a fisherman's paradise and being the lake is brackish they have blue crabs just waiting to be caught and incorporated into a delicious entrée, I have few in mind. Well after checking it out I couldn't resist making a reservation and booked an extended stay in April and was able to get the camp site right on the water, there no doubt I'll need to update this review once I stay here so there's more to come...

Extremely professional and down right hospitable , these guys go above and beyond to supply true satisfaction indeed! Here, you will find many different log cottages complete with a full kitchen (flat top stove) an upstairs loft for the kids, full bathroom, and a cozy, charming ambiance that is second to non. Before I forget to mention, first and foremost, the place is SPOTLESS. I was amazed...refreshing, huh? Heather, the camp manager is easy to find, she's the blushing new bride who is always wearing a big smile on her face and just as accommodating and friendly as can be. Folks, I seriously enjoyed myself here and took notice that the other families and couples thoroughly did as well. I urge you to stop and see for yourselves! I bet you too will be a 'Happy Camper'!!! LOL!

Now that's good management if you want repeat business! I plan on returning again. Sharon & George

Such a fun time last night at Camp Chowenwaw!…read more We stayed in one of the treehouses, number 5 to be specific. There was so much wildlife to be heard throughout the night including owls, woodpeckers, and what we think were crickets or maybe lubbers. The bathrooms and shower areas were very clean for a park/camping area. There are different trails to explore along the path to the treehouses, which we didn't have a chance to do. We suggest bringing a sheet or blanket to cover your mattresses. Each treehouse has 2 twin sized bunk beds (total of 4 mattresses). They are VERY uncomfortable, so if you need extra support, you should probably bring a mattress topper/padding. The grills were pretty clean, just need some dusting off before cooking, though, nothing out of the ordinary. Upkeep for everything was great!

Their trail systems through the uplands and the wetlands offer scenic tracts for the hiking enthusiast. Camping facilities include 15 tent sites, two lodges with bunk beds sleeping 16 people per cabin, 9 tree house cabins, each accommodating 4 people, and 7 cabins with bunk beds sleeping 4 - 8 people. Each campsite has a bathhouse with full restroom accommodations and a unit house with electricity including a stove and refrigerator. Located throughout the park and at each campsite are picnic tables and grills for use by campers and park visitors. Just note: Vehicle access is limited & all camping sites and cabins are accessed by walking trails. The park is ideally suited as a natural outdoor environmental education facility when you consider the setting, location, and proximity of diverse upland and wetland ecosystems. Classes and naturalist programs for organized groups and the public will be available in outdoor and indoor classrooms. This is one magical place off the beaten path where you can still interact with wildlife, get a little exercise, enjoy nature, explore the unknown, cool off in the water and at the end of the day, sleep in a tree and still be close to home! How can you not love that?!!
