Hotel St George was a decent bang for your buck. The room was ready very early which was a plus and all the front desk folks were friendly and helpful. They ordered a car for us very early for a Saturday morning and confirmed it with us. Unfortunately the driver never showed up but they went ahead and ordered us a new car on the spot instead of us frazzling to do it. The room itself was decent sized especially for Europe. The only downside of this stay was the bathroom was beyond freezing. The room itself stayed at a good temp but it was brutal using the restroom. The location of the hotel was supreme. Right off the main O'Connell street in Dublin which made a good starting and end point for all our outings. read more

PROS: -great location we walked to the Temple Bar area, Trinity College and to restaurants. -clean, basic rooms -nice, helpful staff -decent views -staff will set up taxi if you ask and give you suggestions re getting to and from the airport. CONS: -phone was broken for our entire stay even though we reported it. -elevator only holds two at a time and you have to take two flights of steps if you're on the sixth floor. -rooms are small. OVERALL: I would stay here again because it's close to so many important places. Ideal for people who are not renting a car. read more

It took me almost an hour to find this hotel even though the bus I rode from the airport dropped me off a block away. Google Maps messed me all the way up. I was so confused walking up and down Parnell. Well, it's off O'Connell... A nice gentleman at another hotel pointed me in the right direction. Exhausted, I lugged my bags into the door and met a smiling face. The guy at the front desk was so sweet and let me check in around 1:30 pm. I was so relieved. My room was on the 5th floor and I took the teeny tiny lift up there and made my way down a few steps to 506. It's really small, y'all. But it was perfect for me for 1 night. And the bathroom was sufficient. I did hear lots of movement in the hallway and voices were very clear if they walked by the room. I played some music in the morning and I was considerate enough to keep it fairly low because I knew people could hear it outside of my room. There's a cute little dining area and bar in the front of the hotel. I loved the velvet blue. Added some classiness to the spot. I would call this a guesthouse before I'd say it was a boutique hotel but I guess the bar makes it a hotel? Anyway, it was very convenient to walk to the shopping on Henry Street, grab something to eat, or public buses all along O'Connell. I'd definitely stay again if the price was right. read more

Not quite a 5. Enough for. 4 star rating. Quaint little hotel. Staffmembers were excellent. Very friendly and accomodating. Much more than regular hotels. Room was at end of building. Clean. Bed was comfy. There was a slight hum emanating from the wall in the bathroom that sounded like a ceiling fan. Not really that bothersome as it helped lull me to sleep. It may bother some people. Over all, price was right and a value for accomodations. read more

Hotel has a minimal approach; price is based on the convenient location. Rooms are small and cramped shower stall will not accommodate any fluffy habitus...tiny! Rooms need updating unless I just don't realize what the ireland decor should look like. Positive was the customer service. The team here is very welcoming, very responsive to needs, which I appreciated. Another positive is location...near so many neat attractions and great restaurants! read more

Located close to everywhere you need to get to while in Dublin. Coffee shops, restaurants and the tram to get around. The bus to Dublin airport is right outside the door and couldn't be more convenient if you need a hotel for a few nights before heading back to the airport. I stayed here my last two nights in Dublin. When we arrived and checked into our room there were two problems: when you opened the door it hit the bed, and the bed was slanted and not comfortable at all. Of course I made my way down to the reception desk and informed them of the room being too claustrophobic and also that the mattress was an issue. On our way down to the reception area I noticed the room next door that was being cleaned with the door wide open, and it was much larger. I asked if I could take ii and test out the mattress. It was perfect! They were nice about changing rooms and I was a happy camper. I wouldn't have been able to sleep in a tiny room with a small & uncomfortable bed. This is an older hotel so they don't have the USB charging plugs like the newer hotels. I did have to buy a USB converter to connect to the adapter we had with us just to be able to charge our American Iphones. The hotel sells these adapter for 5 euros but you still need the converter to attach to it for it to work. It all worked out for us because we already had the other piece, but we could only charge one phone at a time. We took turns since by the time we would return to the hotel after being out and about from early in the morning our phones would have 1% battery left. It would be nice if they updated their outlets to have a USB plug in. All in all I did have a good sleep besides the one night where it sounded like kids were running back and forth upstairs. You have to take it into account when staying in an older hotel; you're going to hear things and it not sound proof. Our room was very clean and the shower was great. read more

I booked the hotel via hotels.com and with the price stated, which was good, I wasn't expecting much of the room. Quite surprised. This was not very big but enough room to move around. The shower was great. The bed a bit small for two but its good for a husband and wife to sleep close together! There was a kettle to make tea and also a Nespresso type coffee maker. Love my coffee, so really appreciated having this. We stayed two nights and enjoyed the time there and the short distance to some interesting attractions. We travelled to Dublin for the weekend from London during our study abroad, and this hotel saved us after a hostel disaster. It was a comfy bed, hot shower and a decent sized room. The staff were incredibly nice and efficient with checking in and checking out. Right within the Georgian area of Dublin, the St. George is a quaint hotel that is right on the line of the hop on hop off sight seeing tour bus. The power outlets were a bit unreliable and they don't turn on the heat until 6pm, but the breakfasts were lovely. The staff at the St. George were all so friendly and accommodating. If you are used to a Hilton or a Marriott, this may not be the place for you. The building is old and with that comes old building issues. Probably one of the most charming things is the fact that there is an old charm about it. For those of us that can hack not staying in 3 star modern comfort, than you should give the St. George a try. This was a great location and really nice hotel! Just 10 minute walk from the center!! My mom and I stayed for 4 days and had no problem. A few cons would be that the pillows are as flat as can be and the walls were paper thin. However the noise didn't bother me as much, if you're used to city living it should be no problem. The room was overall lovely. The bathroom had heated floors and a heated towel rack. A great source of water pressure and temperature for the shower, almost felt like a massage! The room itself just had the 2 beds with a desk with coffee, tea, bottled water, and a tv but very spacious. Would definitely book again! read more

This hotel is very rundown. I'm sure that it was nice in it's heyday but all public areas are in dire need of a lick of paint and some TLC. My room was not much better - the carpet was treadbare in parts, the bedcover smelled of damp, the TV reception was deplorable, the kettle in the room was dirty. The bathroom was tiny and the celling had a large patch of mold growing there. Complaints to the front desk went unheard - both receptionists seemed uninterested and looked as though they had heard it all before. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to no one. read more

In one word, TERRIBLE! Go somewhere else. We booked this hotel for the convenience to City Center and the great reviews. We were hoping for Irish charm in the staff and room. None of the people we spoke with were Irish. Everything in the room, including the furniture, cabinets, framed pictures on the wall, and dishes were all from IKEA. There was nothing charming about this experience. Cons- -Upon checking in, Adrianne let us know that our room would be "off site." He marched us to the room and only let us know that it was 3 BLOCKS away from the hotel when we arrived to the room. It was on the 5th floor of an independent apartment building. -There was no lift, so that meant we had to carry our luggage up and down 5 flights of stairs. -During the night, someone in the building was locked out. He banged on the front door for 30 minutes. The front desk, 3 blocks over, called our room to tell us to let him in. Since he was no one from my family, I was not about to let in a stranger at 3am. We got 3 phone calls at this hour from the front desk. They repeatedly called the wrong room. -There was a washer/dryer in the room. Initially, this excited me as we were on our last leg of our trip and had dirty laundry. The washer did not get our clothes clean at all. The soap remained in the bin. In fact, our clothes were left with a strong burnt smell and little white balls all over everything. -We stayed for 3 nights. We never received room cleaning, even though it was promised after 2 nights. -We were given only 1 roll of toilet paper. -Because we were so far from the main hotel and breakfast room, we missed the prepaid breakfast. I did speak to the front desk about this and this fee was refunded for this. Upon check out, the desk clerk asked if we enjoyed our stay. I told him everything. He seemed indifferent to my concerns, saying, "OK. I will inform the General Manager." During our stay, we spoke to the front desk about these concerns and there was no attempt to accommodate. Even on our way out, I asked the front desk clerk to call for a cab. He informed us that it would be a 20 minute wait. Since we were short on time to get on an international flight, we flagged a taxi on the street. As we were getting into the car, this front desk clerk came running out to scold us for getting this taxi when he had just called for one. That said, keep looking. There are many other hotels in the area. read more

I LOVED this hotel. Yes, it's old. Yes, the floors and stairs are uneven. Yes to all of it. It is extremely old and charming. We stayed on the 6th floor and the elevator goes to the 5th floor so we had to drag our luggage up some tiny stairs, but it was cool. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Breakfast is included and it was FANTASTIC for the mornings before heading out for a lot of walking. The beds were firm and comfortable. The water in the showers was hot. I don't really need a lot from a hotel because it is really just there for you to rest a few hours and head out into the awesome that is Dublin. The location is pretty good and the buses stop right outside of the door. If Bus isn't your thing then there are literally taxis coming every 20-30 seconds. If not, a 20-30 minute walk could probably get you wherever you want to be. i just really loved this hotel and it does have a lot of charm. I'm so done with overly sterile hotels where you can't even tell what city or country you are in. Come here and enjoy a good nights sleep. read more

The Hotel St George was a great place for us to stay while visiting Dublin. The hotel is conveniently located on several bus runs as well as a 10 minute walk to either Trinity College or the Temple Bar area. We showed up at 9:00 a.m. after a long/trying overseas flight thinking we would try to drop our bags off only to find that our room was ready and not only did we check in but were directed to breakfast. What a wonderful surprise when you first arrive in a new unknown country. Breakfast each morning was a traditional Irish breakfast with several additional options to choose from. Our room was clean, quiet and very unique. The next time we find ourselves in Dublin the Hotel St George will be our first place to look to stay. read more

The Hotel St.George is a restored Georgian building in Parnell Square. We stayed here three nights. Full disclosure: It was once owned by my grandparents and my father lived here as a young boy so i may be biased. Our room in the old part of the hotel was updated, clean and well kept. A well appointed room with a double and single bed. Beds and bedding were very comfortable, tea service in the room, TV and small bathroom with an excellent shower. A very good full Irish breakfast was included and the hotel has free high-speed WiFi in the rooms. . A great location at the top of O'Connell St. in easy walking distance to about everything in the city. Taxis available immediately with a wave in front of the hotel. We found a number of good traditional pubs nearby. There is a large, comfortable lobby sitting room and an adjacent large room with a big screen TV and full service bar. The breakfast room was clean and comfortable, food service was prompt. I found the reception desk friendly, helpful and just a bit more engaged than the staffs at the business hotels i've used in Dublin. They currently do not accept Amex. My only non-positive observation was that some of the lighting in our room was not working. My Grandmother would be pleased with the way these folks are running her hotel. In the late 18th and early-to-mid 19th century, this hotel used to be the townhouse of British Army General Sir George Cockburn, a friend and neighbor of Henry Grattan's in Bray where his seat, Shanganagh Castle (under restoration currently) was near to Grattan's Tinnahinch. When Cockburn owned the townhouse, its address was "7 Rutland Square," not Parnell Square. James Joyces' short story "Two Gallants" opens in "Rutland Square" (it was renamed in 1933). Cockburn was an art lover with many fine paintings in his collections at his Dublin townhouse (St. George Hotel) and at Shanganah Castle. Stayed here in December. I flew internationally and arrived around 5am to check in. When I arrived, the front door was locked and a sign was posted saying "back in 10minutes," so I had to wait outside in the cold. The man that checked me in was very unpleasant and bothered by my checking in, as if I had any control over the time. He photocopied both my passport and credit card, which made me uncomfortable but he would not let me check in without doing so. I had rented an apartment, which I assumed was an extension of the hotel. I was wrong; the apartment was 4 blocks away on a side street. The man told me he would walk me there if I wanted to wait 30 minutes for his coworker to return. Since he wasn't the friendliest, I decided to find it myself. In Dublin the streets aren't clearly marked, so I had to ask a stranger for directions. Keep in mind I had never been to Dublin before, it was pitch black outside and freezing. Really nice customer service. I finally arrived at the apartment and had to carry my luggage up 2 flights of stairs. The apartment itself was nice, although the radiators were confusing and difficult to work, so it was hard to keep warm. I called the desk to ask for assistance and another unfriendly man arrived to "help" me. He basically said the heat was working and he had no idea how to work the radiators either. When I checked out, I asked for the copies of my passport and credit card back and was denied. They assured me they would shred them but I going off their previous incompetence, I'm not confident. If you know this city well, I say go ahead and stay there. If you're new to the city and want some decent customer service, this is not the place for you. I hope they hire some new employees with social skills. read more

If i could give this place 0 stars i would. We showed up to check in- walked up to our room. Mold on the bathroom roof. Check your rooms for mold. 512, 515, 517. We were pushed from room to room. The front desk and the manager wanted to go upstairs and "clean it real quick" with bleach. The final thought was just to refund our money and move us to another hotel. At this point it was 12 pm and no rooms were open anywhere. We stayed the night because we had no other choice. Wifi didnt work in the room and was spotty at best in the lobby. The desk connected us to the hotel next door because it worked better. Anywhere is better than this hotel. Check your room before you check in. read more

The place is old and it shows. It is in desperate need of a renovation. The bedding seemed dirty, the shower and shower curtain had mold on it, the skylight in the shower was covered in spider webs and spiders, the TV reception is positively terrible, and the staff are far from kind. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. read more
