I found St. Clare's through a Google search for wedding dress alterations. I had waited a tad bit too long so most places were booked out. However they took me in and got me scheduled super fast. Each lady I worked with was so kind and helpful. They made sure I was comfortable and happy, no matter what. They were very patient with me too, at first I was a little nervous about my wedding dress because I didn't know what to expect but they exceeded my expectations! I also took my bridesmaid dress to them and they helped me out so much and made sure it fit. Overall, wonderful service, amazing workers, and a very neat and tidy shop! I originally reached out to Elizabeth last year to do alterations to two wedding dresses (ceremony & reception) but COVID quickly had us change plans. I asked Elizabeth do alterations to only one dress for a mini elopement while we rearranged the big day and she was more than happy to help. She did an amazing job on the first dress - pictures below - and now my second dress is finished for our postponed wedding that will be happening July 4th 2021. Elizabeth is a great person to work with and was always easy to communicate with and get a hold of. Elizabeth did a fantastic job on my skirt alterations 5-6 total! I have a smaller waistline and wider hips so I always buy my bottoms to fit my hips and have the waists taken in. Additionally, I have the bottom of the skirts taken in so the garment shows the female form much better! Elizabeth requires a reservation for an alteration appointment so make sure you call in advance of your deadline for events. Her establishment was clean and the alterations made seem sturdy. Elizabeth pins and alters the clothes herself, unlike the seamstresses who take the measurements but have others actually do the work. I've had this done many times and it's just not good. Update- I've taken in more garments. This time a long winter coat, 2 jeans and a shirt. The way Elizabeth finishes the seams is very high quality. Very satisfied!! read more

This place is highway robbery. I got married last year and I'm still fuming about how much they charged me for my wedding dress alteration. I needed material taken off the bottom, my straps pulled up half an inch and a bustle. Elizabeth charged me $1600 dollars for this! When I told her I didn't want to pay as much for alterations as my dress she replied, well how much was your dress? My mom and I tried to negotiate and they would not budge, even in the slightest. The dress fit nicely and she did good work but the cost was outrageous. read more

We regret that we had the misfortune to entrust our money and time to St. Clare's. My fiancee and I left this place feeling upset, frustrated, and taken advantage of. I got my suit and wedding tuxedo in at the start and agreed to the price. Over a month and 2 phone calls later, we were called in. The suit turned out fine; the tux sleeves were way too short. They were something like 1.5 inches above my shirt cuff. My fiancee and I were not happy with it but we were assured that that was what we had asked for. Because we wore a different shirt for the initial consultation, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and asked for the tux sleeve to be let down an inch, so that the shirt cuff would show .5 to 3/4ths of an inch. We were charged an extra $130 for just this sleeve alteration, even though we were charged $135 for both pant and sleeve changes together before. When confronted, they told us that we had been mistakenly not charged extra on the first order. Okay. We ended up just paying the $130. On the second fitting, the tux sleeve ended up still being too short. There was still at least around an inch of shirt cuff showing, more if I moved. We specifically asked for it to be taken down a full inch. My fiancee later inspected it and saw that they only took down half an inch instead of the full inch, and that they had cut the sleeve to bring it up even though we had asked them not to. We just walked out of the second fitting, not wanting to dispute or to put up with this anymore. The associates act nice and polite, but didn't really seem to really care about us. We were upset with how the person helping us looked at my weirdly short cuff and basically said, well, you asked for it. My fiancee and I had serious misgivings about this, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt even though we were dissatisfied with the result, were charged an extra $130 for another alteration, and even after that our instructions were not followed and it turned out too short. They assured me it looked great all along. They don't point out what is wrong with how things turned out or if anything looks bad--you have to make sure of that yourself--and compliment you when you wear what they've altered even if there's something that doesn't look right. They don't seem to have the client's best interests in mind. If I could do it over I would avoid this place and find a tailor to work with 1-on-1 that had our best interests in mind. read more

I needed the chest taken in on the top part of my formalwear, and the staff kindly consulted with me over the best way to do it until I was satisfied. Did a great job taking in a suede jacket. I generally need a tall-medium size, but it's rare to be able to find that size. Bought a large suede jacket so the sleeves would be long enough, but ended up being about eight inches too wide for me. It was an expensive jacket, so wasn't sure who to trust with the work. She did a great job with it, and the jacket looks like it was made just for me. Very happy with the work, and would highly recommend her to anyone. read more

She was so kind and patient throughout the process - trying on the dress, walking me through recommended alterations, suggestions for bustling, and envisioning where to place the vine belt (I hadn't even purchased that at that point yet). Everything was ready on time for pickup. I ended up only needing one alteration fitting (dress was fully crepe, no lace or beads) and then tried it on one last time during pickup. I'm quite disappointed by the experience here. I went for a consultation and only needed my wedding gown hemmed, a bustle put in, and the shoulders pulled up an inch. Each pricing she gave me seemed more and more ridiculous (between 980-1,700). I decided to not go along with the alterations, but I will be honest--I left in tears at how inferior I felt. The payment plans she offered (paying half now then half later) were incredibly out of touch and insensitive. Equally, she continued offering other advice (like double sided tape or pins) then said she could complete half the job for a lower price because it mixes her two services; who wants a half done hack job? Finally, this all occurred in the span of 15 minutes and she still asked for the $65 consolation fee; I wish I could get paid to make people cry. It was insane and, as another person commented, absolute robbery; I do not recommend. read more

I have used different seamstress over the years. I have never found anyone as good as Elizabeth! First of all her kindness and honesty make you just love her, but her work makes you really appreciate her and want to go back to her time and time again! I had a long very detailed dress that needed major work. She listened to what I wanted and made the dress perfect! I took my wedding dress here after seeing all the great reviews. They did a fantastic job! There was a lot that needed to be done to my dress (hemming 8 layers, taking in the sides with lace, adding a bustle, and adding beading) and they did so in a very timely fashion. I was worried that with these edits the lace on my dress would be warped, but it's perfect! Everyone was always so helpful and nice every time I visited. It is a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for! read more

Before taking anything to this business check others. They charge double the price for alterations and claim they have years of experience. They have only been in business for 10 years and received their testing from the 4H Club. Not that there is anything wrong with 4H but when you spend 1000$ do you really want your dress being altered with this training. I was accused of cussing and using foul language which is not true. Unless you consider calling someone passive aggressive or condescending. I also asked to speck to owner in private which I was denied. The dress was ok but when they went to replace the dress in garment holder the whole bottom of the dress was lined with safety pins! The owner never came and spoke to the bride as she was hiding in the back room. There are so many places to have your wedding gown altered. When purchasing your gown take advice from the seller as to where to take your gown. This business and owner have a lot more to learn. My advice is to not even enter! As mother in law to be I only wish I was told where the dress was taken. I mean what business charges 980$ to take in sleeves and bodice. Luckily the length was sufficient as that would have been another 500$. Call around and you will see standard fee for alterations to wedding gowns is 500$-600$. Or One Thousand!! Ridiculous! To end I will cuss again by saying the owner is passive aggressive and condescending! read more

I would shop around before you end up here. I left my consultation yesterday in tears after being told it would cost 1,200 to put a bustle on my dress, as well as hemmed and a hook & eye. Otherwise my dress fit perfectly. I can imagine paying that if I needed it taken in or out... But $690 for a bustle is out of the question. When I arrived I was asked my budget I said around $500, for her to sit there and blow off like that was dueable to be upcharged was unacceptable, then when I said I couldn't pay more in alterations then I did my brand new designer dress She pulled the owner back in the room to pressure me into paying what they quoted, when I refused I was then charged a $60 consultation fee (I wasnt even told about booking, nor does their website mention it. bad business) Regardless they wanted to keep my wedding dress until I changed my mind. These people are money hungry, usally love small business but a bad business doesn't deserve to operate. When I left I called a few other places who told me that was not okay to charge and assured me I could infact keep my dream dress. THREE different places that specialize in bridal gowns mind you. I will never refer this place due to the owner. read more
