I had to have two dresses adjusted. One being for my sister's upcoming wedding (so very important to me!) the other a delicate dress with lace detailing. I chose Mariemont Alterations based on their positive reviews because I needed to find a reliable place to alter my $750 suit top. However, it turned out to be a big mistake. Unfortunately, they ruined my suit top. When I visited the first time and asked for their advice on how to alter the suit, the young lady who assisted me said 'No' over 10 times, which came across as impatient and rude. I'm not sure if it was due to her foreign accent or her manner of expression. It took them 1.5 months to complete the alterations to shorten the suit sleeves and lower the edges. The end result was disappointing, as you can see in the pictures. There were loose threads hanging out, and the edges of the sleeves and the suit were uneven and rough. I didn't even want to bother asking them to redo it. As for another piece, which was simply trimming a pair of pants, it was okay, but the quality wasn't the best, with uneven edges as well. Please be cautious. I'm not sure how they received positive reviews, but based on my experience altering two pieces of clothing there, it was a disappointment! read more

This is the only place in Cincinnati that I've trusted with my alterations so far. No appointment necessary. Just bring in your clothes, try them on (with the shoes you will wear with them if it's a dress), and the owner will pin to your liking. The owner makes great suggestions as well. She hemmed my dress to the perfect midi length. I've brought 4 dresses and a swimsuit here and have had no problems. I have never been treated more insultingly by a business in my life. I brought in a jacket to have the sleeves shortened, which is about as simple as an alteration gets. I should've known right away to avoid this place - as I'm trying on the jacket to measure out the sleeve lengths, I look down at my wrists to get a good feel for it - and she *shouts* at me "NO, ONLY LOOK IN MIRROR". She did this twice. She asked me to button it up to see if it pulled the sleeves in. I started to button all the way from the top and she shouts at me again "UGH NOT ALL OF THEM." I chalked it up to them being busy and left my jacket with them anyway. She's explaining she'll have to reattach the cuff and stitch it from the inside in a super convoluted manner, so I ask "okay, so it'll be the exact same, just shorter?" She answers yes. I picked it up last week and it seemed ok, but upon wearing it and actually getting to move my arms around in it instead of just holding them straight down at my sides in the mirror, I noticed they were cut shorter than how she measured them and the outside portion of the sleeve was uneven and cut shorter. I was informed this by another tailor I took it to fix it, who advised me it was too messed up to be fixed, but to try taking it back to the original tailor (here) to see if they could fix it. The stripes on the cuff also no longer lined up with the sleeve. When I brought it back this woman was immediately confrontational and scoffed and laughed in my face. She denied that the sleeves were cut uneven. She claimed she explained the cuff wouldn't align with the sleeve and it was my fault I didn't pay attention (she did not say this at all, and as I mentioned, claimed to me it would be "the exact same but shorter") I said I would be fine with just letting out the sleeve a little if possible, but she would stop mentioning that if I had just paid attention I would've known this would happen (another lie.) She and the other owner continued to laugh rudely as I defended myself, so I just took my jacket back and left. The service was bad enough I'm looking into taking them to small claims court. I have never, ever been treated so rudely or unprofessionally by a business owner. You shouldn't come here even if someone paid you to let them work on your clothes. read more
