Finding something ready to wear almost never happens with me, so begins the process getting hems and sleeve lengths shortened. After Yelping, I came across Theresa's since it is pretty close to where I live and shop. This search was a win! My wait to be served was minimal. I would try on every garment and after each fitting she would come in to make her markings and ensure I was happy with how it looked. Stuff like this I do not want to rush and I certainly did not experience that during my visit. The pricing was a bit more than what I used to pay, but still quite fair. She charges double with the going rate is and she is so mean she had the audacity to tell me that I was too fat when I asked her to alter a dress. She also was a snot when questioned and doesn't know the difference in different types of fabric. I'm appalled. read more

BEWARE! Theresa ruined my daughter's wedding dress. And said "thank you" as we left in devastation. Hasty, sloppy and horrible job! Took a brand new wedding dress here to have a bustle done and have the dress taken in. Simple, common requests. You could grab over five inches of material in the waist and it simply hung on her. When we had asked for bustle options, Theresa insisted there was only one standard way to do it - "three points". She was rude, curt and only willing to tell us how it "had to" be done. Theresa agreed to take it in (She did not want to take it in at first, saying that my daughter needed it to be loose to be able to sit down?) and do the bustle (of course charging us for both). She had the dress for about 2 months. My daughter and I were devastated when we went to get the dress. It was not taken in (Theresa simply rolled the seam over along the sides) and she had sewn into the decorative mesh on the side (it is visible and the mesh is ruined per the second seamstress we found to try to fix it within 10 days). It was way to big, and fit her worse across her chest than it had before it was altered. It hung on her, by the decorative straps that should NOT hold the dress up. The bustle is horrible, uneven, has 3 very noticeable hooks straight across her bottom that are pulled awkwardly. It is bunched in a ball that drags on the ground. The purpose of a bustle is to make the dress shorter to allow the bride to dance and move around safely without the dress getting stepped on or torn. I am sure it will get torn the first time she dances. Sadly, Theresa came recommended so we did not research or question. Now, I have learned a lot, and now know she was not correct at ALL. It was the worst experience. I will never return or recommend this place. Do not take your precious dress here. Not worth the risk. The dress is ruined, and the second seamstress we had to find emergently is appalled at all the things that were done to this beautiful dress. The picture below is how Theresa did the bustle (we were at the second seamstress showing her the dress and discussing our options to somehow improve it). It needs to be taken in about 4 inches more to allow it to sit properly on her waist (to fit her!). We cannot fix the bustle or the decorative mesh that Theresa sewed through on the side of the dress (under the arm area on the side), out of fear of damaging the dress further. Picture below of the damaged mesh, and how much more is needed to be taken in to fit her. When we picked it up from Theresa, we did express our disbelief and our concerns. Theresa said she "could" fix it, but we were not willing to leave it there for a second try 10 days before the wedding, when she did NOT care enough to do it correctly the FIRST time when she had the dress for 2 months. It was so sloppy and so unprofessional. Theresa said our only option was to let her "try again" in order to help us. NO thanks. BEWARE! read more

Reviews for tailors near me seem middling at best, so I went out of my way to this place, because these at least seemed somewhat promising. Boy was I wrong. I brought a pair of new suit pants in a week ago that I needed altered for an upcoming event. When I arrived, two employees were vacuuming the rear of the store, so I did as a sign said & went into the dressing room to put on the pants & ready them for measurement. When I had them on, I went out & somehow startled the woman behind the counter, who apparently didn't see me enter, so I explained I just did what the sign said & that was that. I told her I wanted the pants to have the traditional cuff. I said this twice. My request appears on the receipt. I went back this morning to collect them. Found they were hemmed, but not cuffed. What the hell? Do they not know what "cuffed" means? Do they just do whatever the fuck they want here? What good is a quick turnaround time if they don't do what you ask them to do? First & last time I'll be at this place. So disappointing. read more

I had a formal dress that I brought to Theresa's shop for alterations. I told the gal at the counter that my son is getting married and I did not want to trip over the dress especially when I danced with my son. The dress was still long! I tripped several times at the wedding. I was charged $100 to hem the bottom and cut the shoulder areas to pull up the dress. I do not feel the bottom was hemmed at all just the shoulder area which pulled the dress up some but not enough. I felt it was expensive and the job was not done properly. I had a bridesmaid dress altered here about a week before I needed it for a wedding. Everyone I interacted with was very kind and accommodating. The woman who had me try on the dress to mark for adjustments asked lots of great questions and asked my preference for length while showing me both options in the mirror. First of all, I would like to say that I do not understand the volume of 1-star reviews on Yelp. Let that be your takeaway off the bat. I was in a rush to get a custom outfit altered within a week and I was worried that it would take up to 3 weeks at other tailors being a specialty item. I had also recently got in some secondhand vintage garments that needed several types of repairs. I explained what I was looking to have done with the lot of 5 and I believe I got my money's worth for $130. I called a few business days after dropping them off to see if I could change the pickup day ahead 1 day, even if I would be charged--it was already done. All the repairs and alterations were done with professional blind stitches on the hems and the repairs made all the garments look factory. I had a pair of vintage Levi's that had a back tab that was intact but the stitching was coming undone; Theresa's was able to match the color of the thread to mend it + double stitch the seam allowance so it doesn't fold and tear any more. I would recommend anyone taking your old jeans there and explaining that you want it on the original seam repaired and/or reinforced, you won't regret it. If you know exactly what you want and have basic knowledge about garment construction terminology and fit, I would recommend trying Theresa's out. Many other tailors will attach bogus fees for higher end, specialty, and quick turnaround garments. read more

My wedding dress needed just a bit of alterations. Once I step foot into Theresa's I was greeted by the most friendly staff at the front desk, the alterations part was very quick, I didn't have to change much but shorten the straps and add a bustle. When I asked her if I needed to shorten the front of the dress, she gave me a honest answer- asked me to walk around the shop and saw that the length was perfect- instead of saying yes and adding more to my alterations bill. I went in for a simple dress to be hemmed. The staff was not welcoming at all. I waited in the room for about 20 minutes before anyone came to see if I was ready. I got to the front and was told it would 75.00 to get the dress. This was crazy to me to charge that amount of money to hem a dress that did not even cost that much. They temporarily LOST my bridesmaids dress. Be careful about bringing important items here!!! Full story: I brought a bridesmaids dress for my sisters wedding here after it was recommended to a friend. Dropped off my dress mid June and was told it would be ready August 1. I called 3 days before the 1st to see if it was ready. The representative on the phone couldn't find my dress on the front rack and collected my information to call me back. About an hour later I get a call back saying my dress had already been picked up!!! However I did NOT pick it up. They had little remorse for losing my dress and said I could just bring in another, however the wedding was 2 weeks away at this point and my dress was purchased online. I provided details from my receipt and emailed a photo of the dress and they said they would look more and to call back in an hour. I call back 45 minutes later because if the dress was missing I needed to rush order a new dress ASAP so it would hopefully arrive in time. When I called they said 'oh yeah we found that dress'. They didn't even call me as soon as they found my missing bridesmaids dress for my sisters wedding which I was leaving for in 1.5 weeks! When I picked up the dress they apologized for the confusion, but it still is no exception for losing my dress and telling me it was picked up when it in fact was not. Store should have been checked more thoroughly before telling me this, also dresses shouldn't be 'lost' even if temporary. Overall the alterations were good, but needless to say I will not come here again. I don't trust this location with an important clothing item. If you need alterations for an important event, don't trust this place, they might lose your item. read more

The ladies that work in this store are rude. I was chided twice for things they failed to tell me/give me: I was told to go into one of the two alteration rooms and put on my dress. I waited and waited, and finally the woman from the front counter comes in and snaps at me that the door must be opened when I'm ready. That would have been nice to know before I went in! When I picked up my dress (a week later for a basic inch and a half hem - I sure didn't receive 2 or 3 day turn around as some of these reviews suggest), I gave my name at the counter just like the lady in front of me had done, and the counter woman insists on a pink receipt from me which they never gave to me in the first place. I was given a small white credit card receipt. The woman shakes her head at me and grumbles about people not bringing in their pink tickets. I don't care how good they are, or if they can work miracles with material, I won't be back. Politeness goes a long way toward customer loyalty. read more

AWFUL AWFUL customer service. I've never had a business owner be so nasty and rude for a mistake they were responsible for. I brought in a bridesmaid dress for alterations to shorten the straps. The part they worked on turned out fine but I was missing the hook and eye off the back of the dress. I didn't think it was a big deal and politely pointed it out upon noticing. Theresa (the store owner) proceeded to tell me that there had never been a hook on the back of the dress, although I knew without a doubt that there had been. I told her there was definitely one when I brought it in. She then proceeded to tell me I was making it up and laughed in my face. She told me she would replace it for a charge, even though it had come off at the shop, while in her possession. It's frustrating to pay a business for a service, then get laughed at for pointing out a simple mistake. I understand things happen but this should've been handled much much better. read more

So I went on and the lady said the dress should be hemmed and taken in but she didn't have time to do both! And then growled at me saying she needed two months to alter wedding dresses! Clearly two ladies are running the show with poor communication. One lady was there while people came in and out for 30 mins while she stopped helping me to take care of them. It was insane! The most horrible customer service that I have ever had!!! My 15 year old had a dress that had one hem "layer" and several other parts of the skirt. I was told it the cost would be $240 plus "rush". Daughter had purchased an off the rack wedding gown which she was bagged up by Wendy's Bridal in Reading. She brought it home and placed it directly in the closet for a few months leading up to the wedding. A month before the wedding, she opened the dress to try it on and noticed many small rips in the lace, a few loose buttons, a missing zipper pull and there was no bustle at all. It's like may daughter was given the wrong dress. That's for another post, though. Once we realized the poor state the dress was in, we searched immediately for a seamstress. My wife and daughter took it to Theresa who inspected it and pointed out a few other issues. She promised to do her best but made no guarantees. Well.. not only did she add the bustle and fix what she said she would, she even added reinforcements and did a more detailed inspection which revealed a couple more rips, which she fixed. She got the dress back to us over a week sooner than she promised, and didn't charge us any more money. The price was MORE than fair to begin with. Took my son's military cold weather jacket in to get a new zipper. When he got it back he said I could keep it, he would buy a new one because the stitching was crooked , thin and only one line of stitching. There was left over glue and adhesive. I don't need a cold weather military jacket, so I took it back to Theresa's alteration to get them to fix it for him. I was told there's nothing they could do. I could have done a better job myself.
