I sadly, wouldn't suggest this place. I dropped two dresses to be worked on for my first visit. One to be shortened and one to have the dropped hem fixed. The dropped hem fix looks pretty horrible. It's so bad, I'm going to have to remove it and take it to another place. read more

Oh man, I hate that I have to leave this type of review but I felt like it needs attention in order for improvement. I took my wedding dress here recently based off my bridal store's recommendation. Frances was an absolute delight to talk with & was a wealth of knowledge. I was happy with her work. We agreed that I could stop in any day (during business hours) to pick up my dress the week of my wedding. So when I went to pick up my wedding dress, it was 1 hour into advertised business hours. I showed up to an unexpected handwritten sign on the door saying the store would not be open until 3 hours into advertised business hours. After rearranging my timed plans around; I returned at the promised 2pm opening time, only to wait a long & uncertain 35 minutes for someone to open the store. I was able to retrieve my wedding dress safely but left feeling absolutely nauseous over the whole experience. read more

She did an incredible job and made me feel so comfortable and confident in both her professional opinion and in my dress. Very reliable and helpful in all alterations I've taken there. About 1 week turnaround time!

***BRIDES BEWARE*** I'm not even sure where to start, at the beginning I thought everything was going to be fine. Then, on our third and fourth visit, we were stood up with no communication until after the fact. Total disregard for our time. My daughter was so upset after the fourth time that she took her dress and came home and we had to take it to another Seamstress where she showed us the inept work that was done by Frances's team. When we opened the bag to get her dress out at the seamstress that helped us, we had someone's obviously very expensive corset/bra and have no idea whose it was. We called to ask if they were missing something they had no idea whose it was. The lace on the bottom of her dress had been cut straight across and just moved up instead of cutting around it to make it right. Where she inserted lace it didn't come close to matching my daughters dress. BTW I have pictures of all of this that were sent to her. I had paid her $140 as a deposit that was refused to be returned. I had to pay another woman to correct everything that she had done to my daughters dress. You're taking your chance with this business. read more

I always bring things here that I need to be monogrammed. Frances' service is awesome and quick. I dropped off 3 Christmas stockings to be personalized the week before thanksgiving. I was told they'd be ready after thanksgiving. Two days later, I was called and told they were ready to pick up! What?! Her work is always amazing and I am so grateful! While I have not directly had a dress altered by Frances and her team, I have been in a bridal party where Frances has committed to having the brides gown completed and ready on a Friday. The issue here? They aren't open on a Friday, this caused a debacle the day before the wedding as we all were frantically trying to find out how to get ahold of Frances to get the dress. In the same bridal party the store lost the mother of the brides dress for two days! This was two years ago. Fast forward to this week, three of my bridesmaids took their dresses to Frances with completion dates promised a few weeks prior to the wedding. After a week past each completion date they had received NO communication on a delay and had to call several times. One bridesmaid was 17 days past promised date, the other two 6 days. We are now three days out from the wedding and we're told they could get their dresses on Thursday... again, do they not know they aren't open on Thursday? After putting more pressure on them we were able to pick them up Wednesday evening before the wedding. Weddings are stressful enough with planning and coordination, to add this stress on is ridiculous. Things happen but as a business it's YOUR responsibility to communicate and be honest with your clientele. read more

I would like to start off with they did make it right by Ubering my wedding veil to me but I did have to argue with them to do it. I got married yesterday, when I went to get my dress and veil out my veil was missing. I immediately started panicking. The bridesmaids pulled out my dress and we could not find it anywhere. I called the alteration place and they said it should be in my bag and I told them it was not. They said they have everyone check the bag to see if the dress is their own. I told them I did that and assumed they put the veil at the bottom. She said to hold on a second and that she would grab Francis. Once on the phone I explained to her what was going on. She said she should not have my veil at the alterations place but she will look around. She had me send a picture of it to her phone for her to look for it. She told me she would give me a call in 5 minutes. Well after 20 min and myself having to put my dress on, I called and asked her if she found it. She said that she is sending a picture to me, well surely enough it was it. She asked me who was going to pick it up which I quickly responded that you will be driving it to us and that I am in my dress about to do pictures. She went on to explain that she was booked up and they did not have a car (I completely understand but I felt as though they needed to make it right). She then came up to having my veil Ubered to my wedding. Luckily the veil showed up when I was doing my first look with my father. This made my day very stressed having to look for a veil that should have already been in my bag. I would like to also say that I set an appointment up on 9/23 to pick up my dress, when I arrived it was not ready. I had to reschedule a time to pick it up. A call would have been nice. read more

I took my red wedding dress here for some alterations. The small alterations were done fine. However, I wanted the nude lining replaced with red lining in the skirts only. Which I stated multiple times, but no notes were taken at any point, so this was overlooked until I decided it was getting too close to the wedding and I wanted to take it elsewhere. (They had the dress for 6 months at this time) They asked for one more chance to finish it... which I allowed. When I returned the DRESS HAD BEEN DYED!! Which had never been talked about. I assume it was an attempt to change the lining color instead of replacing it like I asked. The embroidery and illusion neckline were all burgundy instead of red and the dress had SHRUNK! A red lining was put in after the dye failed but it was uneven and on top of the still existing nude lining...that was longer. I was in shock and just had to get out of there when I saw what had been done. There was no excuse given for the dye job. It was important to me that the dress was bright red, so I ended up getting a completely different dress. I asked to be compensated for the $1200 dress that was ruined once I had researched and talked with other seamstresses to see if anything could be done (nothing could). They refused, and didn't offer me anything. Not even an apology. So if you don't care that much about the item you are getting altered...go here. read more

I would come here out of convenience because it was close to where I live. I've brought pants, shirts and jackets here to be altered in one way or another. The prices are okay but their work is very inconsistent. The customer service isn't consistent either. Frances' helper (short dark hair, wears glasses) isn't friendly and can be very rude when she's busy. I've since opted for taking my clothing to another small business that offers alterations and much, much better work and customer service. read more

I took my wedding dress here. Only needed slight alterations to the length and the straps. The dress was taken up way way too much and I repeatedly asked her to just undo what she did on the length. Later I decided to add a slit which turned into a gaping hole in the front of the dress. After 5 fittings the dress was too short and now most likely ruined and dirty and in need of a cleaning before I can even attempt to sell it. She did attempt to clean it up a bit as it looked like it had been drug on the ground. It has a few stains now tho. All my friends had bought this dress for me as a gift and I ended up having to buy a second dress myself so we were all out money. It was a horrible experience for me. Totally ruined the fun of dress shopping. I was on a very short time limit and got very lucky with my new dress and new seamstress. read more

I took my wedding dress to Frances to be altered before I had to leave for my wedding in New Zealand. The dress barely needed to be taken in, needed to be bustled and I asked if she could add sleeves. First of all, right when I came in the door (with an appointment mind you) I was ignored. The place was dirty and no one even offered to help me to put on my dress for the first fitting (it has about 100 buttons up the back). Frances swore she could do everything I wanted and even had me send her a text with a picture of the sleeves as I'd like them. My next fitting was TERRIBLE. I was ignored again with another set appointment time. My dress was so tight around the arms that it was cutting off my circulation and it actually hurt me. The "sleeves" she had made were just some poorly cut chiffon and they weren't even attached yet. I broke down in tears and she told me it was all going to be ok and that she was going to fix it. But she also put blame on me about the arm holes being too tight and also that my breakdown over my dress was probably just wedding stress. No, I was actually just upset that all my hard-earned money that I had just spent on my dress was now ruined and wasted. My third visit, the sleeves were attached but looked HORRIBLE. Again it was just some VERY poorly cut out chiffon and it looked as though a child had sew not only them but the alterations. Also she had taken my straps up so far that the fitted chest of my dress was now too high and wasn't sitting right on my bosom. I again started to cry and asked that she just remove the sleeves and give me my dress. I had to make yet another time to come back and do that. When I came back the final time to get my dress, I could feel the attitude the minute I came in. I didn't even get offered to try on my dress, just a quick look to ensure it was the right one and that the sleeves had been removed. I also was charged much more than I originally was told (over $100) for alterations that only RUINED my dress. My (now) husband is FURIOUS that we spent money here when I ended up having to fix my own dress, at home, MYSELF because by this time it was only a week until my wedding and I couldn't find anyone else to help. I almost didn't write this review because I'm not a hateful or mean person but now every time I look at my wedding photos or video, I can't help but hate my dress and how it looks and think of what could've been if I had gone somewhere else. I just wish Frances would take ownership over her mistakes. And also, you shouldn't charge people for ruining their most important garments. You should owe me $1200 for my dress. Three months before my daughters wedding she dropped off robes for her bridesmaids to have initials embroidered. When she picked them up, several of the initials were so far over almost under the arm pit, several had holes that had been sewn together, several were sideways, etc. The robes were ruined. After some back and forth, they said they would fix them. We were rightly skeptical as you could see where some embroidery was removed, riped, etc and some were not fixed. They refused to make restitution or refund the money charged to embroider them. At this time it was only a few weeks prior to her wedding and she had to find and buy an alternative item - occuring more expense. Wedding prep is extremely stressful for the bride and this created additional unnecessary stress and added expense. Poor business acumen and customer service. We will not longer use or recommend. read more

As a husband to be, one of my main jobs was doing all I could to ensure my fiance was calm and stress free (as possible) leading up to our big day. However, shortly before the wedding my wife to be was a ball of stress, concerned that the dress she fell in love with was ruined just before our wedding day. My fiance and her mom spent the entire week before the wedding out dress shopping trying to find a replacement for the dress that Alterations by Frances had nearly ruined. There were very obvious dirt stains indicating the dress was dragged along the floor. An expert advised us to have the dress put in the wash as that was the only last ditch effort. You can imagine the massive amount of anxiety a bride feels when her dress of choice is going into the wash days before the wedding. Fortunately (insert sarcasm here) Alterations by Frances used blue ink pen all over the dress to make markings...those markings became much more apparent after the dress was washed. Long story short...the dress went through 2 washes [a few hundred extra dollars later] and it was deemed acceptable for the wedding. After contacting Alterations by Frances to express our frustrations after the fact, and advising of the couple hundred dollars in last minute washing requirements, they so generously (again, insert sarcasm) offered half of the dry cleaning cost in return. I'm sure they usually do good work based on the positive reviews on here but beware if you need any sort of "customer service" from this company. read more

I don't know if they let someone whose never used a needle to hem my jeans but I got them back and the legs were two different lengths and the hem was uneven all the way around and it doesn't match the threading on the rest of the jeans. Hands down one of the best places I've been to. Was in a dilemma with a bridesmaid dress coming in late (about two weeks from wedding date) and called about 5 different alterations places and each one of them said, "Sorry, we won't have time." I got this recommendation from a coworker and called and invited me to come in for a fitting. Once I came in I was greeted and helped right away and Frances said it wouldn't be a problem to fix - it needed several inches taken off the bottom and some way to zip up in the back. I came in on a Friday and the next Wednesday they had it ready and it was BEAUTIFUL. She did such a wonderful job and the price was great too. I will continue to go back to her. Simply put they do top notch work here. I have tried many tailors and seamstresses in NKY and they are by far the best. I used Frances twice now and plan on using her exclusively from now on. Keep in mind they do charge accordingly to there work. My suit jacket cost me $50.00 to have tailored but they basically rebuilt the whole jacket custom for me so personally I think that price was very fair. They are always on time and are very reliable. I would highly recommend going to Frances and her staff if you need any alterations or tailoring. All the best. read more

Update: The past two times I've been I haven't been *as* thrilled. The 2nd to last time I went, I got a romper taken in, and they just pinched the fabric and it was folded on the inside so it didn't look great. The last time I attempted to take something in, I was told it'd be $15 for a rush fee, which I understand they probably were slammed, but it was still frustrating. First review: I was finally able to take an item of clothing to Alterations by Frances, and I was not disappointed! This place definitely earned the rave reviews it received. I was hesitant to have to drive to KY for an alteration, but it's not that bad of a drive - and worth the extra 5-10 mins. The seamstresses were all super warm and friendly, and really listened to what look I was hoping to achieve. The prices were extremely reasonable, and turn-around time was super fast. They will certainly be getting my business again when I need to get a bridesmaids dress altered this fall! read more

This business is currently advertising walk ins welcome yet my item was not completed in 8 weeks, "because of the pandemic and they're so busy" yet I was originally told it would take 1 week. I called after two weeks and was told to give them one more week and I was patient and agreeable to that. I waited two more weeks with no follow-up as promised, so I called back again and was told again that someone would follow up with me within a week. I gave it two more weeks again and I never heard from anyone. So I called back again and was told it would be finished by the end of the week. I called back the following week and was told it was still not done and that I would get a call by Tuesday. I waited one week after that Tuesday and yet again after all these occurrences there has been zero follow-up and zero follow through. I started to vent my frustration with the business and the employee rudely interrupted me and would not let me speak and started giving me a bunch of excuses as to why the item was not completed. As I expressed to her, all I wanted was some follow-up and/or follow through with all of the empty promises I had been made over the course of the last eight weeks. Then I received a phone call from the owner who yelled at me and would not let me say a word and then hung up on me. And then I was told they refuse my business and gave me my item back uncompleted. Absolute worst customer service I have ever received! You should under-promise and over-deliver however you over-promise and under-deliver. You consistently and rudely interrupted your customer. And all you had to do is actually make the phone call to me when you promised me you would to keep me up to date on what was going on. read more

I used Alterations by Frances for a hem on a bridesmaid dress - and I was completely impressed by the professionalism! I love that the prices are laid out ahead of time by essentially having a "menu" showing prices for various common alterations. This seems like such a simple thing, but for whatever reason, most places don't do that. You only need an appointment if you're altering a bridal gown - otherwise you can stop in during regular business hours. My dress was ready for pickup exactly a week after I dropped it off, which was precisely the expectation they set when I dropped it off. I believe Frances truly cares about her clients. I tried on the dress upon pickup, and the top had been tucked and wasn't laying quite right. Frances listened compassionately and immediately undid the tuck to fix it so that I would be comfortable on the day of the wedding. She even re-did it while I waited so I wouldn't have to come back. It was great!I was very happy with the alterations and am so glad to have found a go-to place for alterations. read more

Question to ask: I took some clothes to an alterations place on November 17th. The lady said yes, we can do everything you are asking and they will be finished on November 22nd. For $70. So on November 22nd I called and they said, oh we are sorry, we marked it down for November 29th. Ok fine. Then me thinking well they might need an extra day. I called back on December 1st. They said we are not finished, but then asked, what did you want us to do with the fabric again? At this point I was thinking oh god they haven't even started. (They we're suppose to replace a zipper on a jacket, and put patching on some holes in some pants, and sew so ripped part of one pair.) So they could have started on the jacket and the ripped pants. But the patching could not have been started, since they didn't know what to do, with the fabric I provided. So I asked if they were open on Saturday the 2nd, and if they would be finished. They said yes 9am to 12pm. And yes we will be finished. So I went there at 10 am on the 2nd. Guess what? They weren't finished. So they said we can bring your jacket to you at 12noon. I said, well I have plans today. Can I just pick everything up Monday when everything is finished. They said we aren't open Monday, ok, Tuesday? They said sure. At this point I left. Only to call back 10 minutes later to ask if I change my plans can I come back at 12 noon and pick up my Jacket. They then said, oh it won't be done until Tuesday. I said ok. I then call on Tuesday during lunch, no answer. Then again at 1pm. No Answer. Then at 5pm, and no answer but they had a recording saying everyone was sick and they wouldn't be open until Wednesday. I didn't call Wednesday. They didn't call me either. But what do you know, they called on Thursday the 7th and said they were finished. So I said I will come get it Friday. Today is Friday. I went there, and they said it's going to be $112 for everything. I started looking at the clothes, only to realize they missed about 5 smaller holes out of all the pants, they didn't do anything to the ripped pants (what I thought at least). And at this point I said, I am sorry but I am not going to pay that much, and you didn't even do anything to this pair here. So the lady went to talk to the boss. Then came back, and said ok, $85. I said no, you quoted me 1 week and $70 dollars, and you didn't even touch this pair. So the lady went and got the boss. Boss says, you just said $75 you will pay, I said no. The other lady dropped it to $75 because you didn't do anything to this pair. And started walking over to my clothes. I quickly picked my clothes up and said, I will pay $50. She didn't like that. She tried to say, it was finished 6 days ago. I said no, I was here, you said they weren't finished, and she showed me, we moved the button on that ripped pair. I then explained, I didn't even ask for that to be done. To end it all, I said you quoted me $70 and 1 week. Now it's been 3 weeks and $112. She yelled and said FINE PAY $70. So I did, and she said Merry Christmas as she handed me the receipt. My question is: Am I in the wrong here? Or did this company (Alterations by Frances, Fort Thomas, KY) lie to me? read more

If I could give Frances 10 stars, I would! I could never begin to describe how much of a God send Frances was for me over the past few weeks. I have been through hell and back over my wedding dress. It was the dress of my dreams and after going through a terrible experience with my dress shop (European Bridal- which closed and the owner took off with my dress AND money), finally getting the dress by paying for it a second time (in a size 18 when I measured at a 10 or 12 MAX), and having a seamstress basically butcher the dress in Connecticut where I live, I found Frances. I was only supposed to get my dress steamed by her but once she saw how distraught I was over the state of my dress, she immediately started on alterations. It wasn't easy after what the other seamstress had done to the dress, but after a few fittings Frances had made it perfect again. She worked tirelessly and was so incredibly kind and supportive of me through the whole ordeal. To top it off, she barely charged me anything. She is worth so much more than what I paid. I would recommend Frances to ANYONE for any work they need done... ESPECIALLY bridal or anything couture. read more

I went to get my dress altered for a wedding I am in, and the woman there told me my breasts were sagging! She was so disrespectful and kept saying things like "wow, you poor thing" - referring to how big my breasts are. Then she started preaching to me about what bras I need to wear and that I need to push them up. I do not recommend. I will not be back. Also, the alteration job is not great either. I found this local alterations place on Yelp. I came here because of the reviews & the mere convenience of it being only minutes from my home. I arrived at 12:30pm the day I was told my dress would be complete. The front desk woman said it would be another 20 minutes & suggested I walk around the square while I wait. I came back about 40 minutes later & I was again told that it would be just a "bit" longer...I sat and waited as several customers came & went. The next thing I knew it was almost 2:30pm & my dress was still not ready. I was completely ignored as I waited. Unfortunately, I left without my dress. I did not have another hour to wait. The next day my husband went to pick up my dress. The lady was extremely rude to him & would not honor the 10% discount that is advertised on their Yelp page, even after he showed her a screenshot of the offer. She then continued to charge him $45 for the alterations that they had quoted the day prior for only $25. When I finally looked at my altered dress, I noticed that they had removed the original price tag for over $500. What was the point of this??? This place is a complete joke! Not impressed once I got the items home and tried them on. I would have tried them on but there was a line of people and she didn't offer. The women who checked me out is also the one that pinned the items; which I felt were good - just take in a small bit on a few pieces. Once I tried them on, one was WAY too tight and short - NOT what she pinned and now a donation item. One was a little tighter than was pinned, but may work later if I lose a few pounds. The last was right on, but was a lighter and silk material. She was VERY nice, gave suggestions and carried on a pleasant conversation. Honestly, I am not sure if she is the one that did the actual tailoring or not. It may be helpful if the same perosn that did the pinning also completed the tailoring. Would I go back - not so sure. I had a FANTASTIC tailor near Mason, OH but she moved away. The search will continue. read more

I have taken 3 bridesmaids dresses to Frances over the years. Ridiculously fast turn around and quality work. Most recently, I went in on a Wednesday and had the dress back by the following Wednesday. My bridesmaids dress was too tight at the top and I hadn't been able to get it zipped. Not only did she get it zipped, but she knew exactly what to do to the dress to let it out and make it fit correctly. Affordable too! I will be taking all my alterations to Frances as her record is 3-0 with me. read more
