5 stars!!!! I was in an extreme panic when I realized that there was no way I would be able to hem a dress I had bought, and then needed the next morning to take out of town, by myself! I panicked and called these wonderful ladies and found myself with a professionally hemmed dress in only about 4 hours of notice. They did such a fabulous job in such a short amount of time that I have already recommended them to a handful of people in the short amount of time I've know about them. They do a fabulous job and the prices are so worth it. $10 for a hem job?? Unheard of!! Fast turn around! Went in on Wednesday and was greeted by a friendly girl at the counter. The store is very well kept and organized, unlike some alteration stores that are overwhelming with clothes dropped off and for pick up. Two changing rooms was also nice. I picked up my three pair of pants two days after dropping them off (hemmed and tapered) and was very pleased with the end result. Will definitely do business again. read more

Worst alterations I've ever received. They pride themselves on getting your alterations done in a week, however; they didn't even start on my dress for almost two weeks. Frances forgot what we had discussed needed to be done and when I pointed out the terrible job she did, she blamed it on the dress. My hem was uneven and looked like a kid sewed it. The seams were torn and uneven and it took her 4 visits to do an ok job and then told me I shouldn't have ordered such a big size. I definitely don't recommend her to anyone needing professional seamstress work done. read more

If you want a quick alteration Frances' is fine. I suggested this establishment to my sister for her wedding dress. Big mistake! I feel really awful she had to experience this second rate work on such an important garment. Basically her dress had a sash that needed to be tacked onto her dress. Simple. The owner chose to change the color of the sash from white to ivory to better match her dress, fine, but when we picked up the dress the sash was not tacked on and the new sash was changed from a high-quality, broad, thick material to cheap ribbon one could buy at Michael's. My sister paid good money from the sash, so essentially she lost her money because the woman did not give her the original material back. Also the dress was not properly steamed and their was not a follow-up try on. The owner struck me as unprofessional and really for lack of a better name, an airhead. At the reception we found out that the bustle was not properly executed as well so the dress was stepped on quite a bit on the dance floor. Get your work pants hemmed, but whatever you do, DO NOT let this woman handle ANYTHING of VALUE!!! read more

Took two pairs of my favorite jeans in to be hemmed. I am not in the habit of naming my jeans, nor did they have a name before - but after taking them to Alterations by Frances I have sadly named them Too Short and Way Too Short. They now live in a drawer in the bottom of my closet, which previously had only been good for hiding The Elf on the Shelf. A sad day for good jeans. Negative 10 - do not go there! Worse place! They had 3 weeks to alter my daughters prom dress. She did it the day before as I tried 2x to pickup after the date it was to be ready. I even asked to see it and she refused. When I got the dress back, the work I had asked to be done was not. It had hair and dirt all over it. Very wrinkled like someone threw it in a ball and onto the floor. When I called to inform them they did not do what I asked, they told me to bring it back in and they would fix it. Of course I did not. They had almost 3 weeks and decided to do it the day before prom, actually 2 hours before they close and expected me to trust they would do what was needed the day of. I had to take time off work and go dress shopping. Thankfully Dillard's had something and it fit off the rack. When I called again stating my disappointment I told them I would be down to get a full refund. I only got half. My daughter almost missed her senior prom. Do Not let this happen to you. read more

We had been looking all over the place to get a giant window seat cushion made. I called Frances (had used her for dress alterations in the past) to see if this was in her wheelhouse, and of course it was. As I began explaining What I wanted, she asked if I had been able to find a piece of foam in the size I needed (33.5" x 55" x 5"). I told her I had been struggling and she recommended a place for me to try. I had the foam in less than a week and took it Frances immediately, along with the fabric we wanted. About a week and a half later, she called me to say it was completed. We were very please with the final product. There was a bit of miscommunication on putting a zipper on the cushion cover, but Frances did not hesitate to apologize and had it fixed and ready to go the very next morning. She was way more reasonably priced than anyone else we had looked at ( $100 for giant cushion and 5 pillows) and her turn around time was about half of what others had told us. We will definitely be going back to Frances for more cushion covers in the future when we are ready to switch it out. Her and her team are wonderful!!! Thanks Frances! read more

I just need a few new pairs of jeans tapered; something that should be an easy fix for any seamstress/tailor. After multiple phone calls to local businesses (all resulting in referrals to Alterations by Frances, stating if she can't do it no one can), I decided to give them a call myself. I can say that I was extremely let down. I asked if it was possible to just take my jeans in about an 1" in the thigh and I got a stern "no". No explanation as to why it couldn't be done, no questions were asked to get better detail of what I was needing, and no recommendation of where I could go to have it done. I am not sure how they get so many referrals, or how they are even considered a seamstress if they aren't even capable of taking in jeans. read more

If I could give zero stars I would! My dream was to wear my mother's wedding dress. I took her dress in (from 30 years ago) it fit like a glove, I just wanted a few things done. Long story short, I was told back in August that at my appointment on September 23rd the dress would mostly be complete minus a few details. When I showed up for my appointment at 4, I wasn't helped until 4:40. Nothing was done like promised and straps were added that were 4inches too short so I couldn't even put the dress on correctly. I expressed my frustration and that it wasn't how we agreed. Frances told me she promised to have it completely done, steamed, and ready on September 28th so I could make sure I liked it. Today, October 2nd, I received a call that they had to cancel my appointment that was today at 5:30. I couldn't be rescheduled until October 17th. I asked if I could come in to try it because Frances wanted me to make sure I liked it and didn't need to find another dress. I also told her how I was promised that it would be done last Tuesday. The lady at the front desk told me "it's no where close to being done and it's not her problem." Completely unprofessional! I told her I would like to come in and try it because I need to make sure it fits. She replied with "whatever!" I arrived to just to try on my dress (not a bridal fitting). I was greeted by a bride who's bridal appointment was right before mine but not canceled. Frances told me "your dress is upstairs and it won't be down here until your appointment time at 5:30". Now remember, they told me my appointment was canceled. I waited 55 minutes and my dress was brought down at 5:40. I tried my dress on and nothing was done like we were told. My moms 30 year old wedding dress is completely ruined and beyond repair! This dress was priceless! I now have to scramble to find a dress before my wedding. Worst Alterations EVER!! If you are a bride to be, steer clear of Frances! I recently took a bridesmaid dress to 'Alterations by Frances' and it was the worst experience I've ever had. The dress was very simple, and needed to be taken in only a bit up top, and it needed to be hemmed. I dropped the dress of on a Tuesday and she told me to come back in a week to pick it up. I came back to take it home...good thing I tried it on first! The hem was uneven and jagged and she took it in at the straps rather than the sides, and my arms couldn't fit through the holes! Also, it wasn't even steamed, the entire thing was wrinkly. I was worried but she assured me she could fix it. I came back a third time and it still wasn't right. The hem was still uneven and she used the incorrect stitch, causing it to roll up at the end. The arm holes still weren't fixed and the back now poofed out because of the haphazard way she attempted to rescue such poor work. At that point I took the dress to my preferred seamstress (Rip N Stitch in Florence, KY). 'Rip N Stitch' had to take the entire dress apart just to fix it properly. She also found that Frances used, purple, black, navy blue, tan, and dark green thread all on a purple dress. Unfortunately, I'd like to say that I was an exception, but another bridesmaid, the mother of the bride, and the bride all had issues with their dresses as well. They had to take theirs to 'Fix 2 Fit alterations' in Union, KY to be rescued! The seamstress at 'Fix 2 Fit' said that she recently had another bride come in with a mangled dress from Frances'. The other bridesmaid had the same issue with the arm holes, the mother of the bride had a horrific hem as well as two holes in the seams, and the brides dress was taken in so much that she couldn't sit or breathe (when it wasn't even supposed to be taken in at all). On top of a mess of our dresses, Frances couldn't keep the appointments straight. There were a few times we showed up and she said she wasn't expecting us although appointments had been made for each fitting. She never wrote anything down and it took her 3 times to get the bride's bustle correct. All in all, it took the bridesmaids 3 fittings each, the mother of the bride 3 fittings, and the bride 7 fittings and we all had to take our dresses elsewhere to be salvaged enough to walk down the aisle. Her work is nightmarish! read more

Historically, I've gotten my alterations done at Widmer's, and after I moved to the Fort Thomas, KY area, I decided to try small business. I brought two pair of work slacks to Alterations by Frances to be taken in at the waist, and was told on the Tuesday that I droppd them off that they'd be done by that Friday. I picked them up Friday, paid, and brought them home. My first mistake was not trying them on in the store before I left. When I put one pair on for work the following week- nothing had been done to them; they still feel down just as they had before I brought them to Frances. I checked the waist band for any needle work, and sure enough, nobody except Banana Republic had touched my pants. I went home and checked the second pair- same with them. I brought them back to have work re-done and would have been completely fine if they had admitted they forgot to work on them because everyone makes mistakes, but instead they said that work had been done, and they just hadn't been taken in enough. I was annoyed that they were lying to a customer, but I gave them a second chance to fix the issue. Now a few weeks later, I'm putting on one of the pairs for the first time since the second alteration, and again, they do not fit. I will never be going back to Alterations by Frances, and I suggest you do not either. read more

one of the worst run businesses i have ever seen. i dropped off a dress for her to hem and 4 visits and 1 month later it was still not hemmed. i went in when she said it would be finished; not done. i went in a second time and she said she had spilled grease on it and had to take it to the cleaner!!! went in a third time; still not done. went in a FOURTH time and saw her pick it up OFF OF THE FLOOR and put it on a hanger to give to me saying it was finished when in fact, she hadn't hemmed ANYTHING!!! she flat out lied to me and knew it. unreliable, unprofessional, insulting, and overall a terrible experience. not sure how it could have been any worse!! save yourself the headache of frances!!!! read more

Frances did an AMAZING JOB on my wedding dress!!! I could not have asked for a better company to do this! I am from Cincinnati but live in Georgia so when my dress was shipped to me 2 months before my wedding date and only one month before I headed back to Ohio to finalize everything I called Alterations by Frances and they made it seem like no big deal! I had three fittings the final fitting was still two weeks before the wedding and they held my dress till the day before they wedding, she even came in on a day they were closed just so I could pick it up and go straight to the hotel! All of this was great but the BEST part was the price! She took in the sides, hemmed the bottom (It was not just a one layer wedding dress either) steamed and pressed the dress. AND I was using my mothers veil which was from the 80's so it had a lot of extra veil on top so I had her take that off for me. She did all of this for only $115!!! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor! I HIGHLY recommend Frances and I thank you so much for her doing all of this for me in such a short time and more than reasonable price!!!! read more

Unfortunately, my experience was frustrating and unpleasant. Contacted Frances to cover existing roman shades with different fabric & make longer; a job she said was going to be quick & easy. Long-story-short:... After several NO SHOW/NO CALLS & no apologies, and giving her opportunities to make it right, I still ended up with shades with SEVERAL PROBLEMS: (1)That although she had plenty of (expensive) fabric to initially make them the requested length, to correct her initial error of making them too short, she had patched fabric to the end of 2 shades. Patterns don't match, seams are uneven & frayed, all of this is evident from the other side (people can see this from outside of window); (2) Pattern is upside-down on one shade (3) Hem on one shade is uneven, which makes it hang unevenly; (4) None of the seams were pressed/ironed down, so they don't lay flat. Since she has made several unsuccessful attempts to provide a quality product & provided poor customer service, I didn't trust her to attempt AGAIN. However, I did attempt to contact her one last time to inform her of issues that still remain, but never received a response from her. I was referred to her from a trusted colleague (who knew someone else who had items hemmed in the past), but this was a referral gone terribly wrong! read more
