There are your money-saving options like Tide, Men's Wearhouse, Macys, etc. but they just don't cut the mustard the way that Tom hems his pants. I've taken six pairs of Ralph Laurens to him and have him working on three pairs of Hilfigers right now. He is professional and he is direct and that honesty about what he does and how he does it goes a long way to understanding what amount of work is going into what Tom is about to do. I'm someone who can make dress pants last for years so when I get new pairs and get them tailored, I have no problem sifting through some of the more "convenient" and "cheaper" options so that I can make sure it's done right, and Tom lives up to that. I look forward to seeing him again when it's time to pick up my order and see how good my new suits fit as a result of his work. read more

I called Tom today at 11:00 am from the parking lot of another Tailor who scheduled my daughter for an adjustment to the length of her dress, and then was a no-show. Tom was very understanding and said that he has heard that many times before. Tom fit my daughter into his busy schedule, was very respectful and accommodating. After my zipper broke on my brand new coat the company I bought it from refused ANY refund, exchange, store credit and left me high and dry. If you want good quality, you can absolutely come here. The owner has followed the traditions of his father, who immigrated from Italy as a tailor. In addition to altering clothes (we had pants altered here), he also makes custom suits, which we saw in the store. The owner was also very accommodating and amiable. We needed the alterations same day and he was able to meet our need. Only downside is price, which is more than I normally pay ($25 for pants alterations), but was happy with the results. Note: the store is not on the main avenue and is in its own building right behind the main drive of stores. There is signage off the main road so you don't miss it. read more

I really appreciated the quality work done by Hyde Park Tailors! I took a bridesmaid dress here to be altered on short notice. The owner was super nice, and was super accomodating despite me coming in at literally the last minute. He promised to get my dress done in time, and also gave me an expectation of what it would cost (which was exactly the final price). I liked his "straight to the point" no frills attitude, and it is obvious he is a pro at what he does! I have a bunch of weddings coming up in 2020, and will be using him for all my alteration needs. read more

If you're in need of a new tailor and you're unsure of who to go to around Cincinnati, I highly recommend that you give Tom at Hyde Park Tailors a try. I went to him today for the first time so he could help me take in the waistline of a skirt and he did an excellent job. He was very patient and knowledgeable, and he talked me through different methods that would or wouldn't work to get the job done so I could make the best decision on how to alter my new skirt. I was also impressed that he was confident enough to politely recommend other alteration businesses nearby I could try if I feared that his methods would be too complicated, time-consuming or costly. Best of all, he ultimately did the alteration in minutes while I waited in the store at a cost that was significantly less money than I was expecting to spend. This was my first time getting a pair of pants altered and the finished result exceeded my expectations, the fit was perfect! I procrastinated and waited until the last minute before vacation to take my pants in to get altered and the owner was able to accommodate me and get my pants finished within a few days which was amazing. My sister took her chiffon bridesmaids dress here for my wedding. Was quoted in the $60 dollar range to shorten the hem for 3 layers of dress (the other 3 maids went elsewhere and were in the $30 range). When my sister picked up the dress, she was LIED to and told there were 4 layers and had to pay $100 to get the dress. She knows nothing about sewing and didn't realize she'd been duped until all 4 maids were together. Hem job was very mediocre, higher than the other 3 and my sis was the shortest. I can't believe a reputable business would lie to a customer to get more profit, but that was our experience with Hyde Park Tailors. I'll personally look past an imperfect hem job...but not dishonesty. read more

I had a terrible experience with this taylor. I took a pair of Seven for all mankind jeans to him, upon recommendation by Karisma (no longer open). The tailer (owner) cut off the cuff of the jeans, and did not reattach them as promised. He had thrown away the cuff, and refused to do anything to remedy the problem- hence, $200 jeans ruined, and he couldn't have cared less. Do not use HPT for any premium denim alternations. read more

I'm going to say this straight up: I did not end up dropping off my blazers for tailoring. Now, that being said, here's why: The owner told me directly that for the work he'd have to put in to make them look custom, I'd be better off investing in something newer that needed less adjustment. I respect his honestly. Quite frankly his prices aren't so high, but they reflect his experience, and attention to detail. I always respect a person willing to turn away business because there's potentially a better option for the customer. In other words, I'd definitely stop in the next time I have something that needs to be adjusted . As far as the negative reviews on here, I think it mainly comes down to people's expectations of coddling and the owner's direct and honest (blunt?) feedback. When I called ahead, he answered the phone somewhat gruffly, but this didn't bother me and I quickly realized that all of this is because he's quite busy with work and this is because the majority of his customers appreciate the quality and reward him with work. He is used to working on expensive items and making them look custom. As a result, he's not as interested in taking orders for less expensive items that will take considerable effort and may still not justify the investment. Also, he's not going to turn around in a couple days due to his work load, however, he is happy to work with you if you have specific requirements for when you need the items back. If you have nice stuff and you want it done right, are willing to pay for quality, and don't need it turned around overnight, this is your place. If that's not your situation, don't get upset with the owner if he recommends another option. read more

Did a great job with the pants I had tailored. Even went the extra mile to make sure the cuffs were done so I wouldn't get my heels caught in them and trip. New to the area, I was looking for a tailor to keep on my rotation. I have quite a few of my clothes tailored and was hoping for a quality, affordable tailor in the area. Hyde Park Tailor is excellent quality; and Tom, the proprietor was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. However, they are expensive. I had two pairs of dress pants (not jeans) hemmed, one dress hemmed and one dress with the sides taken in and it was $115! $20 a hem and $35-$40 for the dress. A bit steep in my opinion; but if you can afford it; the quality is perfect. read more

After reading this review I called Tom and told him he got mad kudos from the people on Yelp, and he was like "kudos...yuck..don't believe a word of that, I ain't got no kudos..". LOL. Cracked me up. So I dropped off my Kenneth Cole pants for a simple alteration (he didn't like my pants..I can tell by how he looked at them...but what can you say for a cheap pair of Kenneth Cole pants from Macy's.. :) ) and he said he'd hook me up - which he did. The best part of a simple drop off was the conversation. Tom is a lively conversationalist indeed, and I thought I was opinionated, this guy is off the chain, but he was very cool. And YES, their cost is much higher than other places...but you know what they say about getting what you paid for. I brought in a pair of pants that wasn't hemmed properly by the first tailor I brought it to. He was able to fix the pants and explained what the previous tailor did, why it was wrong and how it should have been done the first time. It was a little expensive, $25, but otherwise I would have looked awful wearing that pair of pants after what the first tailor did. read more

I spent some time in the Army reserves in the Cincinnati area prior to going Active Duty. I was eager to see someone claiming to have experience tailoring military uniforms in a non-military city. The owner claims to have "loads" of experience with military uniforms. Even has a picture with a service member in his shop. He is clearly misinformed because as soon as I started wearing my ASU (service uniform) my commanding officers began to criticize my shoulder boards and buttons as they were sewn on incorrectly. Anyone familiar with the military will know that the uniform is very important. Needless to say I was not making a good impression to any of my COs. Just to further clarify, I provided every piece of instruction I could to the owner. The alterations necessary are not complex, and Marlow White clearly lays out (with printed, color instructions) the two things needed to be done: altering the pants and sewing on the shoulder boards/buttons on the jacket. I began asking my colleagues who were also fresh butter bars (2LT--lowest officer rank) about how their uniform looked so good. They began telling me about their tailors and how they paid 80-120 dollars for the alterations mentioned above. I was charged 240 by the the owner of Hyde Park Tailors (without ever receiving an estimate prior). Of note, as I was handing him my credit card, he said with a smile "And that's with the military discount." Briefly after going active duty, I had to go get my alterations done again, but fortunately I did not go to HP Tailors. The tailor I went to charged me the appropriate, fair price of 100 dollars to correct all the mistakes (both jacket and pants) the HP Tailor owner had make. I've never written a yelp review until now; however, I think it needs to be clear to any member of the armed forces that this place 1. grossly over charges and 2. does a subpar job. I was a young, inexperienced officer at the time and it was my first uniform. I was naive to what it should actually cost. I am writing this with hopes that other members of the military do not make the same mistake. I would also challenge other non-military readers to consider if this is the type of man you'd want to do business with. read more

Tom is a master at his craft. I brought him in 4 custom suits that had gotten baggy in me after losing a bunch of weight, and by the time he was done with them, they fit better and looked better than they ever had. Without asking, he even fixed little things like loose buttons and threads. I cannot recommend his work enough, and I will not use any other tailor but Tom at Hyde Park Tailors. read more

TERRIBLE. Worst customer service I have ever encournteres. I took my Seven for All Mankind jeans to him for alteration on the hem. He cut the original hem off, and threw it away. He had told me when I dropped the jeans off that it would be saved. After the jeans were mis-altered, he refused to do anything to correct the issue- saying it was my fault. Also, he told me that what I wanted would look terrible- and it was an awful idea. Not only did he ruin my jeans, he also charged me $25, more than anywhere else in the city. If there was an option to give negative stars, I would have selected that. Price-gouging at its finest. I took in a pair of dress pants that was 1-2 sizes too big. When I returned to pick them up, I waited ten minutes for the proprietor to finish his phone call before he assisted me. He then proceeded to charge me $58 for tailoring a $40 pair of pants. When I questioned the charge, he slammed down on the counter a pile of receipts to "prove" that the amount was reasonable. None of the other charges was for $58. He then proceeded to get defensive and rude. Call me old fashioned, but I'm a firm believer that proprietors should not use the "F" word to their customers. This tailor is an affront to all Hyde Park businesses and I strongly dissuade anyone from using his services. read more

I was looking for a good tailor near Anderson to have simple alterations made (dresses hemmed, jeans, etc). This place looked legit, so I check online for what time it opened, went to the store's door, no one was there almost 30 minutes after it's apparent opening time. Weird. Maybe I had the wrong time. Maybe there is a sign somewhere. Nope. Time was right according to sign on door. No sign indicating it was closed. So I leave with my 18 month old a little annoyed that I just drove there and got my toddler out for nothing. Tried again a few days later. Called and checked for the time again. Go there, this time 45 minutes after open time still no one there. Door locked. Lights out. Try one more time the following day way past the open time and to my surprise a man was there. He wasn't overly friendly but directed me to a dressing room to change into the dress I needed hemmed. While I am in there getting changed he says, "You aren't in any hurry for this are you?" To which I reply somewhat caught off guard, "Well no." He then explains/complains hes so swamped and that it will be such and such date before he can get my dress back to me (A SIMPLE HEM), more than 3 weeks later. I think I was so unimpressed by the place at this point I just wanted to be done so I say OK, leave relieved anyone was even there. Three weeks later I return to finally pick up my 30 dollar cotton dress from Old Navy. A different man is there when I walk in. He is on the phone, unprofessionally cursing loudly at what appears to be his steamer. Something was broke I think. He gets off the phone and tells me what a horrible day he is having, how the steamer is a joke and he doesnt want to pay them two grand to fix it yada yada. Asks what I want and when I give him my tab he makes a comment about how no one ever has those and its so annoying. Brings me my dress and says 27 dollars. WHAT?! Seriously, for a simple cotton dress hem? I pay somewhat in disbelief at the horrible service I have continually received from this overpriced, yuppy tailor in downtown Hyde Park. Take my dress home to see that the hem is poorly done, uneven and unravling. Honestly not a customer that ever complains or has ever left a review but this service was ridiculous. This is the only tailor I trust in Cincinnati. I've been a loyal customer since moving to Cincinnati in 2009, and I am glad to say I have never had a bad experience with Tom. Last winter I decided to try another well-known tailoring shop in Madeira. First I gave them some pants to hem: same price as Hyde Park Tailors, but the way they did them is inferior and lays less cleanly than pants I've had hemmed at Hyde Park Tailors. But passable. Next I gave them a blazer to slim in the waist (a standard operation Tom at Hyde Park Tailors had done many times for me). They not only slimmed it in the side seams, but took in extra in the center seam; the result is an overly tight and uncomfortable fit that I fear will rip a la Chris Farley every time I move. At that same time, I also gave them a tweed jacket that needed slimming in the waist, but the typical method wouldn't work: it was large in the front, but fit cleanly in the back. Without going into technical details, it was a major botch: the vent gaped (upon receiving the jacket, I asked the attendant if the vent gaped, and he said "oh no, not at all"), it was tight in the back, and they made very amateurish mistakes--and they charged me an arm and a leg for it. I took it to Hyde Park Tailors, and Tom not only fixed their botched workmanship, but made it fit like it should have to begin with. I will never try another tailor as long as Tom is working and I live in this city. He is a true master tailor who knows his stuff. If he pushes back on something you want to do, know that it's because he values his reputation and would rather not take money from you if it means he thinks the result will be less than great--that reflects on his quality of workmanship! read more

Took twice the time for twice the money. Does good work but treated my business like it was an inconvenience to them. Would not recommend.

I brought in a sport coat that was ill fitting because of heavy padding in the shoulders. Tom said he could make it look good. Frankly, I had my doubts. It was a tricky alteration. Very pleasantly surprised when I tried on the altered coat. The fit was exactly what I wanted. And he got it done a week earlier than his estimate. I am very satisfied and have since given him two more coats for the same treatment. Definitely my go to tailor in Cincinnati. read more

Great service quality within the originally projected time frame for completion. I would recommend this tailor to anyone who has an expensive article of clothing that needs to be tailored. This tailor is not cheap, but rest assured it is money well spent. The person who helped me was not exactly the model for customer relations as he was very terse and rude to an extent, but that should by no means dissuade anyone from taking their business there.
