Stayed here for two nights and we were able to try their dinner and breakfast. The lodge itself, it was very charming. It is a shared bathroom but it was not too busy on the weekend so it was not a big deal. Each room also came with their own sinks so it was all good. The owner was very helpful, has tons of trail recommendations and even suggested sights to see on the way to our next destination. Both our dinner and breakfast were really sumptuous! Breakfast was a nice surprise, not the bagels and muffin type but real food breakfast. Overall, an amazing stay as we explored Lake Almanor and hiked Lassen peak. read more

We spent two enjoyable nights at St. Bernard Lodge, a 1920's historic lodge very near Lassen National Park. Our room, Woodland, was comfortable and had a lovely view of the pond which had trout and ducks. Sharon Roberts, the innkeeper, is very knowledgeable and helpful about local trails and places to visit. We really enjoyed chatting with her. Dinner and breakfast were wonderful, with large portions and delicious. The blueberry pancakes were amazing. Ask Sharon when you book your room about when to place your dinner/breakfast orders. The lodge is conveniently located near Lassen NP. Sharon, the inn keeper was very hospitable and provided a fantastic breakfast. Dinner is available, but you need to reserve in advance. There are around 7 rooms, each with a private sink and two full baths at the end of the hallway. It seemed to be a full house and there was no problem waiting for an open bath. My husband and I spent 2 days at St Bernard Lodge over the last weekend. The lodge is an easy drive, and conveniently located between the Lassen Volcanic National Park and Chester. Sharon and Kathy were very hospitable and provided us a lot of information regarding visiting the area, as well as hiking in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Breakfast and Dinner were delicious. A plus point is that we met a lot of friendly people staying there. Overall, we enjoyed the personability in St Bernard Lodge, reminiscent of old times. I stayed at St Bernard Lodge for a short trip to Lassen Volcanic National Park and Lake Almanor. It's conveniently located in between both of them, with scenic drives in both directions. Sharon is also very knowledgable about the area and gives good recommendations of trails and where to go. The breakfast was an amazing part of the stay; it excels far more than motel/hotel breakfasts. I would recommend the Traveler's Breakfast for a hearty meal. The dinner is worth the experience as well; the owners are amazing cooks and the food ended up tasting better than local restaurants in Chester. I could not recommend the St. Bernard Lodge more if you are going to Lassen National Park or in the Chester area. The Lodge is affordable and I've never had a better B&B breakfast anywhere (and breakfast is included!) You get to choose a variety of breakfast options including sausage breakfast sandwich, traditional egg/meat/toast breakfast, omelette or scrambled eggs. Additionally to the large breakfast they serve you a fruit bowl, coffee, fried potatoes, and, a delicious house-made pastry (We had bear claws, apple strudel, and coffee cake.) Other than the amazing breakfast, the owners, Sharon and her husband, are incredibly nice and hospitable. They recommended hikes and things to do in the area daily. Additionally, our car got a flat tire the Saturday we were in Lassen, and Sharon offered to pick us up at the tow truck place in Chester and take us back to the hotel (We took her up on it! She was such a lifesaver!) The only downside to the B&B is that there aren't individual bathrooms per room. The upstairs has two bathrooms/showers for all the guests and there's a bathroom downstairs for diners. I didn't mind at all, because they keep the place clean, but during COVID I could see how travelers might want their own bathroom. St. Bernard Lodge has great food, service, and is a convenient location! read more

This place is a gem. It's quiet. Peaceful. Rustic. But has everything you need. There's just a handful of rooms, and bathrooms are down the hall, but everyone is friendly and easy-going. Breakfast is included in your room costs and it is NOT your typical banana, yogurt, and cereal help-yourself meal. It is a hot, healthy, and hearty meal cooked as you want it, and served promptly at your pre-determined breakfast time. Eggs, sausage, pancakes, potatoes, fresh fruit, hot coffee, tea, and more. The restaurant is great, and my hiking buddy and I stayed in for dinner one night. The food was delicious and more than we could finish. Sharon, the proprietor, is attentive, thoughtful, and goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. She ensures we had everything we needed. She even gave us snacks to keep us going on our hikes. Lassen is a great place to visit with mountains, volcanoes, waterfalls, geysers and more, and the St. Bernard Lodge is just a few short miles outside the park. We'll be back to hike sometime, and we'll definitely stay at the St. Bernard. It's everything you need in a quiet, peaceful setting. read more

The staff at St. Bernard Lodge is what makes this place great. I know that I'm only giving it 3 stars, but it's only for one reason: the beds aren't that great and together with the noise from the street, that the windows don't block out, I didn't exactly get a good nights sleep. That said, I really like this place and will return the next time I'm visiting the Lassen National Park area. Like I said, the staff are fantastic and really do their best to make your stay comfortable. The breakfast, which is included in the $95/night price is amazing. And when I say "amazing", I mean amazing. It's basically a restaurant, from which menu you can order whatever you want. And the portions are huge. My first morning, I had the Campers Scramble, which is scrambled eggs over country potatoes. My fav was what I got on my second morning, the hikers sandwich, which was a couple of sausage patties, eggs your way and cheese on a english muffin. So bad for you, so great in your tummy. Oh, and that came with a side of country potatoes too. All with the constant smile of the staff making sure that everything is ok. Dinner is not included, but you can have it there anyway. You can get burgers starting at around $7 to steaks that go up to almost $30, I think. Basically, you can have whatever you want. The fried chicken I had was pretty good. The bar (yes, there is a bar) is cheap. Well, I guess I live in San Francisco and so anything is cheap. $18 for 4 drinks. I guess you can decide for yourself. And the staff didn't see anything wrong with us drinking beers that we brought ourselves there either. They even gave us chips and homemade salsa to go with it. Online, you can book a room for $95/night. They have 7 rooms, most of which have 2 beds in it, but a few have a single king bed. There are two communal bathrooms, although each room has its own sink. You can also book the entire lodge for $400 a night. That deal does not include breakfast but I think it's still a good deal. If you double up on people in beds, you can fit up to 22 people in there! My stay here was fantastic. The only downer is that it's right on the street and so you will hear every car that drives by. And maybe they could get some new mattresses. But you know what, even without that, I will be back. read more

Spent Christmas week here with the family, party of 16. We had an amazing time- the hosts (Jim and Sharron) were great, the food was excellent, and the snowy scenery was beautiful. There is a full sized pool table, bar, PacMan machine, and a dartboard in the downstairs lounge area to keep people of all ages entertained. We stayed here 3 nights Sept. 2019 for our anniversary. I'm writing this now after seeing an email from them, should have done it a long time ago. I've stayed in many B&B's and this was one of the strangest, most uncomfortable I have ever stayed in, I would not recommend this place to anyone. Mainly it was because of how unwelcome and rude the owners were. Sharon was standoffish as soon as we walked in and we felt so uncomfortable in the main room/bar at night (they yelled at us when we oped a chest full of games) that we left quickly and went to our room. There are two shared bathrooms for the whole place (not fun) and our room which faced the road was so noisy we had to wear earplugs every night. You could hear every noise through the walls (including the full conversation of the woman on her phone next to us) that it made any romance pretty much non-existent (would not recommend for romance)!!! The best thing about the place was the breakfast which was pretty outstanding so I am giving a 2. Sharon was pleasant to us then while serving so we were confused by her temperament. The owners were very hot and cold. Won't stay there again, go to the really nice place with full restaurant up the road towards Lassen National Park. read more

I had never stayed at a B&B before, so I was a little hesitant. Due to the limited options for lodging in this area, I thought I should give it a try. I'm glad I did! It's an older home with a lot of charm. There's a bar with games to play, and dining room and nice outside seating area. Each room is a little different, we stayed in the "Sunrise" room which had a sink and two beds. The beds were so comfy, the perfect place to rest after a full day of exploring Lassen. You have to share the bathrooms with other guests (3 total bathrooms in the place). I was nervous about this at first, but I think I worried more about this than I needed to. Bathrooms were clean and stocked with everything I needed. When we weren't out exploring, we sat at the bar and talked with the owner. She was very knowledgeable! Told us some history of the area and gave advice on what to see. We took her advice and were not disappointed!! We stayed for two nights, on the second night the power went out. THIS WAS NOT THEIR FAULT AT ALL!! The power was out everywhere, even the nearby town was without power. I could tell they were worried that this would make us very unhappy guests, but I think it added to the adventure. Without the WiFi, we were able to actually unplug and talk to each other. I chatted with another guest who came from Denmark and two others from Singapore! The owners still managed to make my mom dinner without power (talk about hospitality!!), and was even nice enough to make me a dinner even though I did not RSVP. (we had planned on eating in Chester, but power was out there too). I was well aware of the rules, and because of this I was not expecting them to do so. I'm SO happy they did because that was some of the best fish and chips I have ever had! A bonus to the power being out was being able to stargaze right from the patio! This was a great experience, we were able to see the Milky Way and a lot of shooting stars. It was beautiful... The next day we had breakfast. It was SO good! I was very surprised at how good all the food was to be honest. Even the fruit seemed really fresh, and all the way in the middle nowhere! Alright, Yelp community: I don't usually like to post such negative reviews, but I've *never* had such a negative experience with a hotel. Having just gotten off the phone with Sharon of the lodge, I am in shock. I can't believe how rudely I was treated by Sharon. What an awful experience. I booked this hotel on Tuesday afternoon for a trip up to the Lassen area to see my boyfriend, who is thru-hiking on the PCT. Mind you, if you look up this place on Google Maps, one of the descriptive terms is "PCT" - perfect, or so I thought. As you go through the booking process, there is a question that asks you for your estimated arrival time. Note, there's no visible disclaimer attached to the arrival time question. No stated curfew (I'll get into that below). It's merely a question as you book. I answered "not sure, will call, thanks" because I knew I'd be coming from work in Berkeley, and I wouldn't be able to begin my drive until 7pm. I emailed the front desk there to ask for an early check-in for my boyfriend, who would be waiting around in the area for me, fresh off the trail. I also advised her of my own arrival time, which would be later, around 10:00pm. Sharon's response regarding my boyfriend's request for early check-in: "this isn't a good place to rest before 3pm." REALLY?? Something's not right here. A hotel, "not a good place to rest"? That should have been my first red flag - she clearly had bristled at the prospect of having to host a thru-hiker, or maybe on account of some other attribute, his last name, my last name, where I'm from? I hate to speculate about that, but something obviously didn't smell right. In response to my 10:00 pm arrival time (I'd be finished work at 7pm), Sharon bluntly said: "Try to be here before 10:00 p.m." I was confused. Last time I checked, 10:00 p.m. is not an ungodly hour. Nonetheless, I responded, "I'll do my very best, but due to where I'm coming from, and what time I'm able to leave work, I can't guarantee that I'll be there before 10." To that she responded: "10:00 pm is the latest we accept check-ins. Please let me know if I have to cancel this reservation." This is the first I'd seen/heard of an enforced CURFEW at at hotel, even if it is a B&B. So basically she'd refuse to let me stay there if I arrived at 10:01 p.m. I guess this place enforces a strict curfew of 10:00 p.m. Never mind you that my boyfriend would have already checked in for the room. Never mind you that I'd already given her my credit card information, received the payment processing email. I'd given Sharon both of our first and last names. I'll skip the gorier details - how incredibly rude she was when she called me, to (amazingly) claim that on my confirmation email, in some small print, it demands check-in be before 10:00pm. Dear readers, due to my shock at this treatment, I read that email no less than 10x. This language was NOWHERE to be found. Clearly, she didn't want me or my boyfriend staying at this hotel, for some reason unbeknownst to me. What does she do when guests return to the hotel at 10:30 pm. from dinner in nearby Chester or elsewhere? Do they get locked out? If so, you should probably publish that information somewhere legible on your website - the Rooms or Reservations pages, perhaps? Maybe even bolden it? I told Sharon I'd oblige her and take my money elsewhere. At that point, I had no desire to support an establishment so strangely intolerant and unaccommodating. What an awful experience. My girlfriend and I went here over the long Fourth of July weekend, and we had a great experience! The place is very well decorated, and they have a nice little backyard area complete with a hot tub. The second best part of St. Bernard Lodge is the breakfast. There is a wide variety of things on the menu, but make sure you try the blueberry pancakes (which are huge, extremely fluffy, and loaded with blueberries) and make damn sure you try the hashbrowns (best I've ever had!). However, the best part of this place is the people. Everyone we talked to was extremely nice, and Sharon gave us so many tips on great places to go see and good hikes to do. We had dinner there one night, which was pretty decent but not as good as the breakfasts. The rooms are pretty simple and cozy, and our biggest complaint was that it was kind of hard to sleep because the room got too warm and there's no a/c. You also can't really have the window open at night because of the noise from the road, but all in all, the beds were fine and the sleeping situation wasn't bad. I would definitely recommend staying here if you're going to Lassen Park for a few days. The rates are very fair, and overall it was a great experience! read more

The St. Bernard Lodge is very cute - it has it's own bar and restaurant downstairs, antique furnishings all over, books out all over to read. I only saw one person who checked us in, made our breakfast and checked us out, but she managed to keep up with everyone. She really knew the area and had tips for not just Lassen, but also Lake Almanor and other activities all the way down to Sacramento. She was super helpful. I enjoyed the decor and the feel of the place, but there were several downsides: - Bathrooms are not en-suite. They were very clean and cute, but still, I prefer to have the bathrooms en-suite. - Very isolated. Although much closer to Lassen than many of the other options (other than camping in the park), it is far from all other major areas. This means that if you are looking to head out for a meal, etc. . you will need to drive thirty minutes plus to get to the next town. It was a cute experience, but I think I'd probably would stay at a place in Almanor and do the longer drive into Lassen in the future. If you are looking for a place close to Lassen just to crash after a busy day hiking and don't mind a place where you really get to know the other people who are staying at the B and B, (not so much privacy), this is a good option. What a great find. My wife and I spent the nite before heading to Lassen and were smitten with the place. We're not typical B&B types but loved it anyway. Quaint, comfortable rooms with nice amenities and shared baths were no problem. Wonderful, classic bar in the main lodge and cozy dining room served EXCELLENT food and a great cooked-to-order breakfast. We got lucky! We planned our summer vacation super late and still lucked out with a room here for 5 days! And for such a reasonable price. Every morning we had a delicious full service breakfast and chatted with the owner, who recommended tons of hikes, locations and activities. Then we'd actively hop all over the park until sundown. It was a charming place to come back to at the end of each day - with it's rich history and old Americana ambiance, it definitely had a little extra something over other BnBs. Not to mention the personal, pre-arrival emails that I received, answering any questions I had and tips on things we could do once we got there! It got me really excited for our stay! I see some folks complain about the thin walls, I think we sometimes forget how older buildings work - but the staff provides ear plugs from the very start, which is kind and understanding. If anything, bed headboards would be a fantastic addition to boot. But again, my earplugs worked like a charm! They have a full bar! With pool table, darts and everything! We might have entertained it a bit, if we weren't so pooped at the end of each day. Also, little side note: it might be more alluring if a young PT staffer were manning it on the weekends, I think. These folks are doing their best to not only keep a wonderful, historical Lodge booming but also provide a wonderful experience to their guests! They deserve a vacation of their own! read more

I really enjoyed my stay at this charming Inn. My boyfriend and I stayed 1 night over 4th of July weekend during a driving tour of northern California. The Inn itself is darling - full of character. And I happen to like that kind of thing very much. I was a bit skeptical about the shared bathroom thing, but it turned out to not be that inconvenient at all. In the future, I would stay here again despite the shared bathroom because I enjoyed everything else so much. The location is great for getting to the park and also taking a nice walk around the property. Sharon greeted us and loaded us up with some wine while we strolled around taking in the sites. We ate dinner at the lodge that evening and the food was GREAT! I was really impressed by this. I thought going in the food would probably not be very good since there are no other choices...but I was pleasantly mistaken. Breakfast the next morning was equally good. Some other reviewers have commented that Sharon isn't friendly. I have to disagree. I found her to be delightful and full of information about the area. She went out of her way to take great care of us. She was a little bit shy / standoffish when we first arrived, but within minutes she opened up and treated us like friends. Her husband Jim runs the kitchen...and does a great job at it. Also note, the walls in the rooms are fairly thin and sound does travel...so be mindful of your activities / noise level. read more

This place was an awesome find. I purchased a Living Social deal a few months ago and my hubby went up to stay the weekend. What a beautiful location, quaint setting and amazing food! Breakfast was included in our accommodations, and it was really tasty. We had dinner there one night as well and the food was delicious--from broccoli cheese soup to homemade bread served with our meals, the pork chops and the NY steak were both fantastic! The owners were friendly and helpful---shared lots of great tidbits about the area, history of the lodge, and more. This place was awesome. Stayed here with my kids for my birthday weekend Sept of 2019. I wanted to find something close to Lassen south entrance and I settled on this place instead of camping. The food here alone deserves almost 5 stars. They make the batter for both fried chicken(my son ate and loved it) and onion rings from scratch and was quite delicious. The included cooked to order breakfast is fresh, delicious, and filling. Even though the Pac-man machine was broken, we still enjoyed playing darts, playing cards and chess, and the hot tub which was perfect temperature. The owner of the place was hospitable and welcoming. Even though the rooms are small and the bathrooms are shared, the beds were comfy and the showers were strong. It is a bit of a drive from lassen entrance, maybe half hour away, and about 40 minutes from Bumpass Hell trail. Still not bad though. The area is nice but you do get road noise. You do need to order your dinner in advance, but I'm glad we chose to eat here as I didn't know what was available in nearby Chester. By the way Chester is closest town for Gas, so do make sure you gas up before driving into Lassen park. There is no cell reception around here either, so you will need to make due with the wifi, which was very slow for me, but it did work. I did like this place and thought it was very worth the money and hope it continues to exist as I may be back here in the future. read more

I don't usually leave Yelp reviews but we just had such a wonderful experience at the St. Bernard lodge that I'm moved to. We rented out the whole place and Sharon & Jim went above and beyond to accommodate our loud and energetic group. The bar/game area is perfectly suited to groups, the breakfast is delicious, and the owners are nice as can be. I'd recommend this place for any large group looking to spend their days hiking and their nights drinking, with some hot tub time in between. read more

They are so light that they seem to slightly hover over the plate until they get buttered and covered in the most awesome pancake syrup ever. Everything is fresh made and very tasty. One might call this place rustic until they come here when it's full, at which point it becomes a very expensive stay at a barn. The thin walls don't block any sound from your neighbors or the highway. Every awful topic of conversation comes through. You can hear the turbo whine and buzzing exhaust of every car going by. You hear the loud bangs and screeches of people trying to operate their broken furniture and corroded door locks. You're not getting any sleep here. Breakfast was well prepared but made of the cheapest ingredients. The place was relatively clean but in barn-like state of disrepair. The table lamps had exposed wiring, doors and cabinets needed great force to open, and the bathroom towel rack wasn't bolted in. I don't know where that $100/night goes, but it's not on food or maintenance. It might be a fair buy at $30/night. read more

Mt Lassen was suggested to us a training ground for our hike to the Himalayas in October. I've never been to Mt Lassen and didn't know anything about it but a common friend suggested St Bernard. I made a reservation online. There were 3 of us. A week before the trip, I got a call from a lady at St Bernard letting me know that 2 people is the maximum per room. I asked her how big the bed is and she said it was a king - that could certainly fit 3 tiny women. So I begged her to let me pay extra. And then she goes, "you don't get it, 3 is the maximum, other guests will complain that the limit is 2 and there's 3 in your room". Seriously now, who will complain?! So I asked her if she can recommend other places and she goes "there are other places but I bet they are all full". So I asked if could change or cancel the reservation then she goes, "if you did that, you will be charged the full amount because it's less than 10 days". Apparently, they have a 10-day cancellation policy. What kind of bullshit is that! Despite her bitchiness, I remained calm, composed and nice to her. But I was thinking, is this woman for real?! Then she concluded our conversation by saying that late check in is at 10pm. And after that time, I couldn't check in anymore. Okay, can she get any more bitchy with me?! At that point, I promised myself I will never come back to this place ever again. Nobody has to ever treat or talk to a person that way. I was dreading the day I'd meet her. God knows I was so tempted to not show up and just cancel my credit card. I found another hotel for my other girlfriend and they were nicer people at Mineral Lodge. I just wished I found them before St Bernard. So we got there at exactly 10pm and of course she wasn't happy. She goes "I called you guys coz I was gonna lock up". Well bitch, the traffic was so bad and we left the Bay Area at exactly 3pm. GoogleMap said it will only take 4 cars but the traffic on 680 was so bad it took 7 hours to get there. And worse of all, we didn't have cellphone reception. But of course I didn't say that. It took so much willpower not to bitch-slap her - I swear. Anyway, you'd think the room is wonderful coz it was $100/night. Well, the walls between the rooms were paper thin and we could hear every conversation, every snore, every move of every single guest. On top of that, there were no bathrooms in the room and no air conditioning and we happen to be there on the hottest weekend ever. I did not get to sleep at all. First thing Sunday, we left right after breakfast. The only wonderful thing they have to offer is breakfast! Otherwise, go find another place. read more

The Lodge has a nice bar, the beds were comfortable, bedding clean, good coffee (and plenty of it), and there is great internet service. This is a good place for those who appreciate such things (we did), and who are looking for 'econo' lodging, which we weren't. My suggestion to anyone planning to stay there is to request a room facing the meadow. Our room faced Hwy 89 and the noise was horrible, esp. around 5:30 am each morning as logging trucks literally ZOOMED past, just a few yards from the bedroom windows. Ear-plugs would work to solve that. Honestly, though, we won't be going back, primarily because of what I consider sub-standard cleanliness around the place. One bathroom floor needed mopping, along with a whole lot of cleaning around the edge of shower's outside edge along the floor as well as along the wall. Just so noticeable to any guest using the toilet. I cleaned a portion of it using the supplies under the sink, just to prove to myself that it was, indeed, cleanable. There was a window ledge in the restaurant booth we sat at that hadn't been cleaned in at least a month, if not longer (disgusting, I won't go into detail). It was good that they serve food there, and it sufficed, but was NOT anything to rave about. The proprietors seemed to be simply "going through the motions", and had a "take-it or leave-it" attitude, so if you like a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment, this is not your place. Not once did they ask us how we slept, or how we enjoyed our food (it obviously didn't matter one way or the other). When I reported on the first day, that a toilet kept running, the response was someone didn't flush it right. After day two, and many attempts at flushing methods, we thought we'd figured it out and so I wrote a note and left it there for other guests who were arriving. That way if someone needed to go #2, they didn't have to open back of toilet and fix plunger. In the guestbook, pages back, the toilet running was mentioned as an issue, and yet there was no flushing directions posted, and it was still an issue. No room spray in either of the two shared bathrooms (there are seven guest rooms who share the two) either. Toilets running properly and spray would seem to be a no-brainer. read more

I just stayed here with a group of 17, and we had a blast. The owners were super welcoming and friendly, both Jim and Sharon. I've seen some other negative reviews on here about Sharon or the lodge, but those people must have brought that pissy attitude themselves. As Aragorn said of Lady Galadriel, "There is in her and in this land no evil, unless a man bring it hither himself." We all arrived at progressively different times, but they went out of their way to cook us dinner by each carload even though we had said we would be arriving together. The lodge had everything you could want. A pool table, bar, big dining table, comfy rooms, and bathrooms with nice showers. I don't know why people whined about the cleanliness, but it was either never a problem or has since been resolved. At night we pushed the boundaries of a reasonable curfew, but Sharon didn't get uptight at all. She would chat with us when we engaged her, and they kept serving us from the bar until liquor license rules made them close up shop. The negative reviews here puzzle me, and based on my stay I can't explain them except to say Aragorn was right. Those people brought the evil there themselves. read more

My family and I stayed there May 23, the original plan was to stay for two days but after the very unwelcome experience we decided to leave after one night. We got to the area rather early, around 11am, we knew that check in wasn't until 3pm and we just wanted to ask if there will be a chance for us to come back maybe around 2pm, but we didn't get a chance to say anything, the lady open the door and say something like ... you are too early and need to come back when we are ready, at 3pm... also... you didn't make dinner reservations so you are going to have to find a place to eat dinner... during her monologue... she seemed super annoyed. So again, we knew we were early but never had a chance to ask what we wanted to ask. Being that she is in the "hospitality" business, I would have expected her just to say something a bit friendlier, but there was none of that. We went back after 3pm checked in and my husband had read great reviews about the hot tub so he asked where it was and if he could use it, so she explained that they had been waiting for someone to fix it for weeks, that he could use it but the max temperature was only 98 degrees and that it was probably better that way anyway as who wants to be in a hot tub that is too hot . So hot tub wasn't working. There was a sewage smell coming out of the sink in our room. Bed was lumpy. The coffee pot was old and spill all over, there were no instructions on how to use it but we were lucky another guest made the coffee earlier. The one star is because breakfast was good. read more

We stayed this past holiday weekend and LOVED it! We arrived in the afternoon and checked in with Sharon. We had booked the Bluebird room and it is directly at the front of the lodge facing the highway but we did not hear a thing at all and we slept so good on the sleep number bed! The lodge has a bar area and the beer was nice and cold and was served in a chilled glass and was a welcome sight after a long motorcycle ride to get here. (Note to bikers, Google says 6hrs it is really 7-8 depending on stops you make) When we checked Sharon asked if we wanted dinner and we said yes so she took our order and we told her we would like to eat around 5:30. She sent us off to our room to unpack and we decided to go back into Chester to gas up for the next day and she gave us some really great recommendations on where to go to see great views of Lassen and Lake Almanor. She is a wealth of information for the area and for the National Park. When we returned and came down for dinner it was YUMMY!!!! I had the chicken and it is 4 pieces so she saved 2 for us to take the following day (NOTE: you get a lot of food here. We were starving and still left food on the table which we felt bad for wasting and try the vegetable appetizers they are fab!). After dinner we decided to use the spa out back and it was wonderful, clean and overlooks the pond and was so relaxing. Grounds are gorgeous!!! The pond and outdoor seating area really clean and were well manicured. Settling in for the night other visitors came in to the lodge but everyone was really respectful of noise. We showered in the claw tub shower that was so freaking cool!! There are games/puzzles to play (no TV thank God) The walls are thin but NOT that thin. We did not hear anyone in adjoining rooms. The following morning we came down to breakfast around 9am. I had the St Bernard omelet and the hash brown casserole and again I was not disappointed. My husband really enjoyed his meal also. Over all this place was great so I don't know why the bad reviews because seriously the building is almost 100 years old and when you stay at a B&B it's like spending the night at someone's house so if you keep that in mind you will be just fine and if that is not your thing go to a motel down the road. Sharon and her husband were very nice and she gave us a map and directions and advice on what to see and do in the park. She dried our suits after the spa and answered all of our many questions we had. I would totally recommend St. Bernard Lodge to our friends and you better believe we will be returning. read more

My family comes up here every year for Christmas and I was able to join them this year. It was a wonderful experience. It is definitely an older home so know what you're getting yourself in to with that. Each of the bedrooms has a sink and there are two bathrooms upstairs and 1 down stairs. It wasn't a problem for us since our family took over the whole place but just know you might be sharing space with a stranger. The food was amazing and the owners could not have been nicer. read more

If you are looking for a place in the middle of nowhere, beautiful location and good food, come here. There are horses to visit and a bowling alley down the road in Chester to have some fun at. You have to share a bathroom with others which is a little uncomfortable and the floors creek. But the rooms are cute and we slept well. read more

My husband and I had our wedding here. Jim and Sharon were our instant friends and wonderful party planners. They did everything in their power to make our wedding the best it could be. They provided us with FANTASTIC food (everyone who attended swore it was the best meal they had eaten in ages), friendly bar service, organizational help, and, most importantly, a beautifully rustic and cozy venue.
