We come up to Almanor every summer for a couple weeks and this is always on our list of places we love to boat to and grab lunch. This year especially was a 10/10 experience. They seem like they updated their menu and the food was fantastic! Highly recommend the mac and cheese bites. The service was great. We love sitting out on the deck. We rented a cabin over an extended weekend stay and the fridge did not work in the cabin. We had brought food in ice chests and had to keep refilling the coolers with ice. Pretty disappointing. read more

Was a beautiful night out on the deck for dinner. I had the lemon herb chicken which I thought was mighty tasty and tender. My friends had the rib eyes and they were not impressed for the price of them, and they were not cooked to their liking... one ordered a side salad which was not brought out until the dinners were served ... she just had it boxed up to go at that point... I had to ask several times for a straw for my drink and a box to take left overs. It was early enough for dinner that a lot of bugs weren't out yet but as we were leaving the gnats started swarming... there was several screaming and crying babies so it wasn't a very peaceful dinner, but not the restaurants fault.... Just wish that people had consideration for others when bringing their children to restaurants, when they are worn out from being at the lake all day. read more

We were lucky enough to have a family reunion at Plumas Pines. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The lake and surrounding area are stunning. The kids had great fun swimming in the lake. Mt. Lassen is a short drive away with tons of hiking. Chester is a small town nearby where a person can find nice restaurants, a good grocery plus some shopping. I would highly recommend Plumas Pines as a place to rest and relax while enjoying nature. read more

By day, it's a waterfront restaurant and grill with a menu that's got something for everyone--though honestly, the mac 'n cheese bites are the best. At night, it transforms into a social hub where the music is loud, and the people are as fabulous as you'd expect from a place with the best lake on the west coast. And let's not forget the Rocket Fuel cocktail--it's the drink that promises to magically improve your job performance, make your family adore you, and possibly solve world hunger. You can get here by car, foot, golf cart, or boat, because clearly, arriving in style is a must. The room itself was OK. The TV only got two stations even though there was supposed to be twelve, contacted the person in charge,she said they would fix it. Never did. The pillows were about an inch thick and the towels were the worst quality I've ever seen in a motel. read more

Reserved an RV space for my husband's birthday a month in advance. We were anticipating arriving to what was depicted on the website. There are only 4 nightly spaces (pricey) and placed on the main road into the marina so there was traffic back and forth during the day. The RV park is full with seasonal and full time residents. Our RV is only 26 ft C class, yet we had to squeeze in between the deck on one side, a tree on the other and a huge boulder at one end. The spaces are very close together - approx. 10 feet from each other. Dogs off leash seemed to be the accepted norm which made for a stressful walk with our own each time we took them out. There is no camp host present. I had planned on a birthday dinner of prime rib for my husband only to be told on our arrival at the restaurant that reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, and they had nothing available until 8:30 p.m. Thankful to the hostess who saw my distress when I explained the occasion that made a table ready for us. The view of the lake is beautiful and we enjoyed sitting on the deck for coffee in the morning, however, the "resort" falls short and was disappointing. read more

I have been here a couple times now but this visit was incredible. I was getting married in the area and decided to have our rehearsal dinner here. We made reservations for 25 on the deck. Originally we were scheduled for 5pm but got behind and they accommodated pushing it back an hour which was greatly appreciated (we were having too much fun at the lake). When you have a large party like this you generally expect delays and long waits but they did a great job! I did not hear a single grumble about anything. Our waitress did a fantastic job (I believe her name was Celeste?). The view is incredible off the back deck which is on the shore of Almanor. After dinner we meandered down by the water, took photos, and generally had a great day. They have a full bar that's well-staffed too and kept the drinks flowing. Would definitely be back and would recommend anyone having an event here! read more

This place has so much character seen some pictures from the 40's amazing!! Now I did come with a big party and was a little bothered by the service and items on menu but not having available. Apps came out same time as the food and it all took very long to come out. Small menu and out of a lot of items on it. Saw our server only 3 times took order, dropped food, dropped check. Now if that's your thing food was amazing. I would def give it another shot due to the quality of food not service. If you are renting a boat I do not recommend it. read more

I have been coming to plumas pines for over 50 years. Due to Covid and the fire it has been several years since I have been there. This past week we stopped by for a Bloody Mary which has always been my favorite there as they have been outstanding in the past. I walked up to the bar and requested the drink as well as 2 margaritas. The woman behind the bar was very surly and was more interested in her phone than making a drink. The drink was served in a small glass with a "canned mix" (her words) and had a single bean and an olive. I asked her if she had any celery or anything (there was some sitting in a glass behind the bar) and she said "nope that's how we make them". I can get a better Bloody Mary premixed in a can and don't have to spend $10. Plumas Pines my visit, which I have been bragging about for years, was less than admirable. Cozy, comfortable, clean and simple. Coming to the lake at least once or twice a year, this was an excellent experience. There's a little store with everything from groceries to camping gear that you might have forgotten. Along with our little cabin/apartment we stayed in, there's RV camping spots right across the street. Lastly, the restaurant across the street was excellent. Dinner: Caesar (creamy, slight hint of anchovy, little tart, crunchy romaine, perfect), Prime Rib (well-seasoned, cooked perfectly, al dente veggies, garlic mashed). Lunch, pulled-pork sammie, tender, not overpowered by the bbq sauce, great seasoned fries. Also tried the calamari appetizer, very good - lightly breaded, sprinkled with Italian seasoning, great chipotle dipping sauce. Had the clam chowder too (kids wanted it, didn't like it, I finished it.) Luckily, my sister and her husband have a place on the lake, so, we got in their boat and tied up on the PPR dock. Stunning panoramic views of Lake Almanor and Dyer Mountain and the finest cuisine in the whole Almanor area. I had the Grilled Chicken with Chardonnay Cream. It was superb; really tender, juicy chicken and creamy mashed potatoes, with good veggies. We shared some beer-battered onion rings for the table, had warm good bread and some great dessert. The folks here are really warm and fun, but they did get a little mixed up at first. We waited a good while for the servers to figure out which one had our table, but after that was sorted out, we had terrific service. It really is beautiful out on the back deck in the evening as the sun sets behind you and casts the mountain in oranges and purples. And if you're not in the mood for peaceful, the bar inside gets fairly raucous. Good margaritas and Sierra on tap. If there's one great place to take a date around the Lake, this is it. read more

My Garmin GPS and I guess the Google places page had the wrong location for this place, just FYI. We were on a motorcycle trip and all got there after 8 on a Sunday. The staff just left our rooms open with keys inside, no muss no fuss. The restaurant had stopped serving food, but the bartender was super friendly and vowed to stay open as long as he had customers. Had a couple beers for dinner, left me a little hungover for the motorcycle trip home. The cabins we were in were organized a little strange, but between two cabins and 5 people we all had a door to close when we went to bed which was nice. read more

One of our favorite spots to stay when we visit Lake Almanor! Keven is the perfect host and goes out of his way to accommodate us. The cabins are cozy, clean and rustic with view of the lake that is a delight to wake up to. The pricing on the cabins are a deal as they come with a kitchen and BBQ area for outdoor cooking. Last trip up here we had several Deer wander by and check us out.... very cool. Next to the cabins is a country store and across the street is a restaurant that has lake front seating and the food is reasonably price and very good. Within walking distance is a marina where you can rent boats and jet skies for the day again the prices on the rentals are very affordable. Several of the cabins are pet friendly and we have even taken our 2 Maine Coon cats up to stay on several occasions. Again Kevin goes above and beyond to make sure were comfortable. If your looking for a relaxing stay on the lake to unwind this is the spot. read more

This was probably one of the most memorable vacations my family has had in awhile. We stayed in the recently upgraded Manzanita cabin, and it was amazing. The upgrades were comfortable and done very well. We have two small children and a dog, all of which fit very well in the cabin. There is a large deck off the cabin, which was perfect for our dog. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this lake and cabin to anyone. Unfortunately we were unable to eat at the restaurant due to the busy weekend and us not making a reservation. Can't wait to come back next year! read more

The restaurant was recommended by friends who live in nearby Chester. We went to dinner with them. A great meal. Service was fast and pleasant. My pecan crusted halibut was firm, juicy, and flaky. Two of our party had the prime rib special, cooked medium, and they said they have never had better. The servings were very large. One of us had the blue cheese bison burger with sweet potato fries; she loved it. We ate on the deck. We were fortunate enough to be there for perfect weather for outside dining. We will definitely be back the next time we are visiting friends in the area. read more

This weekend we had the worst experience trying to get gas at Plumas Pines. The kids working there had awful customer service. They acted like punk kids. And all they kept saying was "Do you know who his DAD is?" Apparently they thought if you are the owners son you are entitled to treat people that way. We left without getting any gas in our boat. Ive been coming here for years and have never been treated so badly. I think they were putting on a show for other boaters there. Sad. read more

If you aren't expecting fancy accommodations, you will love this place! We stayed in motel room #6. The only other option we found was best western in Chester for $150 per night. Plumas Pines was only $85 per night and right on the lake. There are other options such as camping and cabins. Staff could have been friendlier on the phone and during check in, but the next morning the person at the counter (perhaps the owner) was very accommodating and friendly. The location was wonderful! Walking distance from the shore - around 300 feet. I reserved the room at the Plumas Pines Resort after looking at all of the five-star reviews. We spent one night in a double-room cabin room #8 which was small but adequate. The rooms were clean. The reason I am giving the resort a one-star review lies in the bathroom's condition and the quality of its commodities. There was a lot of water damage on the bathroom floor and shower (and ceiling of one bedroom). The worst part of all of it was that the shower was filled with black mold - it almost looked like they caulked or clear coat painted over it. It was terrible and disgusting! Nobody used it - I would've complained but that was the only available room and we were only staying one night so we dealt with it. The towels were thin and felt literally like sandpaper. Also, there is no air conditioning so we left the windows open and it cooled off around midnight to a comfortable temperature. Honestly, they should not have rented the room out - especially for $183 a night. We won't stay there again. We would rather sleep in a tent. read more

Zero point Zero Customer Service left me no choice but to walk out. I work for a multi million dollar company that is in the Hospitality industry. If the owner of the company I work for was greeted by the Hostess with the bad attitude and sloppy dress, she would of been terminated on the spot. The same goes true with the waitress. After we were seated, we were ready to order. Nevermind us waiting, the waitress and hostess were to busy taking down umbrellas on the deck. The first one they took down let the blinding sun directly in my face. I had to move to other side of the table. Time stood still while we watched the hostess and waitress taking down unused umbrellas. This went on and on as I sat there dumbfounded. Oh wait, now the Hostess is rudely speaking another patron that is inquiring about sitting on the deck, and having dinner. He soon disappeared...to where I have no idea. Between the nasty arrogant attitude, the over priced food, the cob webs with insect carcasses, and the lack of hospitality, this patron was out of there and happily spending 60.00 bucks down the road for dinner! Out of 150 plus reviews I have written, I can say this was by far the worst service I have experienced. read more

The views are wonderful from this location, but sadly, the restaurant does not live up to its former glory. We have been eating at this restaurant for over 15 years. This year, a new owner took over. The menu has really gone downhill. Talk about basic. Pretty much only steak and pasta primavera. Dinner is really expensive. We paid over $80 for dinner for 2 adults and 2 kids with no alcohol. Extremely overpriced. My husband's dinner was like something from McDonald's (think McRib). They even had a special called "Airline Roasted Chicken," really, would someone order something that tasted like food from an airplane? Yuck! We told them ahead of time that we were coming to the restaurant for our son's 5th birthday. The waitress and hostess said happy birthday to him, but that was it. No singing, no dish of ice cream. To culminate a nice 4th of July with good friends, the 6 of us made reservations for 7:00 for lakeside dining. We were told upon seating that only one menu was available and more would be brought when available. Eventually we received two more. We started with before dinner drinks which arrived promptly. Our orders were taken quickly. Salads were served, we all enjoyed, dressings were great - the blue cheese had hunks of cheese in it and was very good. At that point we sat for a minimum of 40 minutes with our used salad plates, and glasses. Our waiter was flagged down for more drink orders. When our meals arrived it was noticed a great deal of broccoli was piled on each plate. Two of us ordered prime rib which was juicy and cooked to perfection. The two New York steaks were tough as shoe leather and lacking flavor. One was sent back and a prime rib was substituted. the other diner requested no substitution, her meal was ruined, she is 7 mos pregnant, was tired and required nourishment due to gestational diabetes (so we shared our meals), they could not have replaced it fast enough for her needs. The halibut was somewhat dry, lacking flavor and not fresh smelling. The scampi appeared to have been a frozen dinner product with added butter and wine, scampi in the smaller thin side also flavorless and not plump and juicy. Both waitstaff apologized but no discount or comp was given. Although we weren't expecting a five star rating for dinner, this dinner was such a disappointment we will not be returning. The wait staff appeared to be overwhelmed and understaffed. Also we arrived by boat. The 10 boat slips with narrow sides, were old and unstable. Not a good first impression. My Husband and I recently got married in Chester, and had our reception at Plumas Pines Resort. The experience was more than we could have imagined. The food was excellent, the service/staff was great and the view was beyond beautiful! Todd helped to accommodate us with all things needed & wanted for our special day. We along with a large portion of our families were able to rent out the cabins, and hotel rooms at the resort, keeping us all close together and a short safe walk back after the reception. We loved the fact that none of the wedding party and immediate family (including us) had to drive or worry about getting drivers after celebrating all night. Todd has a positive and fun personality, which made meeting/working with him much more personable and easy. Todd was very reliable and made sure we didn't have to think twice as to the reception. It allowed us to focus on everything else going on, with the reassurance that the reception would be ready to go perfectly at the time it was to start. The resort was very trusting of us and made sure we had no worries that night, other than to dance and have fun. My husband and I can't wait to go back this summer and have a nice dinner there with a refreshing cold beer on the deck, surrounded by beautiful scenery while reliving the best day of our lives. We are definitely impressed and extremely happy with Plumas Pines Resort and the outcome of our wedding reception. read more

Very nice dinner salad that is loaded cranberries, tomatoes etc. Prime rib was good and came with veggies, mashed potatoes but the potatoes lacked salt and flavor. A better option to offer (& probably easier on crew) would be a baked potato. Chicken breast with bbq sauce was okay but nothing special. A 1/2 roasted chicken would be better. Fantastic vacation spot. My son dubbed it "funky glamping." You really do get the best of both worlds here. It's quiet and peaceful (we came Sunday-Thursday after 4th of July, so crowds were gone). The cabin was perfect for us with a small front room with 2 twin beds for our boys, and a full kitchen and bath. We spent most of our time outside; in the lake, eating at the picnic table, or watching the resident chipmunks. The weather was perfect and the views of Mt. Lassen from the lake were stunning. Mt. Lassen National park is a short drive away and offers a ton of hikes and fun volcanic sites. Having the store, restaurant and Marina within walking distance made everything easy. Major's Outpost is conveniently located at the marina for boat and sea-doo rentals. I'm giving them a 5-star review as well! I highly recommend Plumas Pines Resort, but also hope it stays a hidden gem. We plan to come back as often as possible. read more

We rented a boat from Majors' Outpost and were very disappointed! The older gentleman, and I use the term loosely, was rude and sarcastic. The boat we were given to use looked like it could fall apart any minute! The canopy was ripped as were many areas in the seats. We found out afterwards that other rental businesses in the area were the same price but had great customer service along with very well upkept equipment/boats. If you want trashy service and equipment then rent from here but for classy service/equipment go somewhere else! read more
