Every time I come this place has been 10/10! Visited from Chico for a quick 1 night stay with my boyfriend (for this trip). January trip was for some live music with the girls. Stayed across the street in the Inn, but will look into the cottages next time! Service and food/ drinks top notch! You can tell everyone here takes a lot of pride in what they do. Food: Calamari was amazing! Super fresh, melt in your mouth strips ( not rings). The boyfriend is VERY picky but he loved these ones. Burger was huge and they even had a gluten free bun, which is hard to find. Bun was toasted and soft. Drinks: The bloody Mary's hit the spot, they do it up on the toppings. I even got some pork belly on top! Had one of their espresso martinis, also delish. They make it creamy which I love, I usually ask for it creamy. Highlands Ranch Resort is a hidden gem about 15 minutes from the southwest entrance to Lassen National Park. We stayed two nights in the Silhouette cabin. The grounds are well kept with Adirondack chairs on the porch of each cabin and around a fire pit in the center of the grounds. The meadow and mountains are beautiful. We happened to be there when there was no moon - the stars and Milky Way were amazing. Bonus - as we were stargazing around 10:45 pm, we heard wolves howling in the hills. So haunting and beautiful. The cabin was a perfect size for my husband and I. The king bed was comfortable, the bathroom floor heated and the rain shower was a fully walk in shower. The bathroom was all in stone. Beautiful. Good coffee maker with plentiful pods. The water was very drinkable. Two chairs inside to relax and read. Ceiling fan and a gas fireplace for temp control. There was also a standing fan if we needed it. (We didn't) It was 97 during the day but temp dropped to high 50's at night. We were very comfortable. The restaurant was excellent. The food was delicious and the drinks very well prepared. The morning breakfast included with the room was off a menu - you could choose what you wanted. The staff were super friendly from check in to restaurant team to the groundskeeper. We were there in a thunderstorm - the only con was the running and pooling water across the path from the cabin to the lodge and the waterfall off the roof on the steps and ramp. Thank goodness we had raincoats and another pair of shoes. We have Verizon and had no problem with Internet, text and calls in the cabin if we chose to engage. We didn't try streaming. The lodge wifi was very strong. We didn't notice road noise but maybe we were heavy sleepers. We'll be back. read more

THE place to stay if you are visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park. High end in the hills, no better place to rest after knocking your lights out in the park all day! I concur with fellow reviewers, the cabins are super nice, no A/C but ceiling fans and cool breezes during the warmer months, fireplace, heated bathroom floors and space heaters for colder months. Spacious, well appointed, updated bathroom with plenty of vanity space and storage. Good size, stone-tiled shower with decent water pressure and dispensered gel, shampoo and conditioner. Towels a little rough (spa towels were way softer). Mini fridge and freezer as well as Nespresso coffee maker in room. The tap water is very drinkable as well. No cell or Wi-Fi in cabins (Wi-Fi in restaurant/lodge) , but, hey, your here to get away...take a chance and unplug for a spell! We stayed in Meadows Edge, the cabin right next to the meadow and furthest from the road that also featured a 2 person hot tub. So needed after a day of hiking Lassen's many trails. Grab a bottle of wine and check out the celestial wonders, as there is little light pollution...super bright Milky Way, just amazing. Only other negative is it is right on 36 and you'll hear traffic noise...less at night save for the rogue big rig rolling through at 3am ;-O. Breakfast is included and filling. Not a buffet, but actual menu selections which should suit most every taste. The restaurant was, for us, exceptional. Whoever the chef is, give him a raise!! We ate here every night (not a lot of options in the area) and after our first meal, we knew we made the right choice. Made sure our reservation was for 7:30 to catch the sun dip below the peaks out on the deck. Perfect cool ending to our daily hikes in the park. From their signature cocktails to their sizable, delicious apps and the mains, every dish as a hit. The calamari steak strips were on point and plentiful, same for the crispy Brussel sprouts with pork belly, garlic aioli, parmesan cheese. Since we had a late lunch, this was more than enough for dinner. The drinks were spot on, mine as a Frey Ranch Rye Manhattan, my wife went with the Lavender Lemon drop. Both made to perfection (became our nightly sundowner!!). Elana was our server every night, friendly, attentive and made us feel like family (the good kind!!). The next night we tried the Blue Bread as an app (think garlic bread loaded with blue cheese topped with heirloom tomatoes...oh yeah! We both shared the special, pan seared halibut as well as the champagne pear salad. Halibut cooked perfectly, tender, flaky and well balanced seasoning. The portions are sizable. Saturday night we were treated to a local band playing in the restaurant. Rickety Bridge, 2 guys, multi-instrumentalists with great vocals, covering everything from country to classic rock. The place was packed, as they have quite the following. We danced until their last song...Footloose! An awesome way to end our 4 days here. Carrie checked us in and out, super nice and very helpful. We love this place; been here twice. Just returned from a three night stay. Pros: 1. Great cabins. 2. Four miles from the Lassen NP entrance. 3. Great restaurant on site. 4. Comp breakfasts; the meals are terrific. 5. Great service. 6. Probably the nicest place to stay near Lassen. Cons: Room rates not cheap. Some traffic noise in the cabins at night. And, when it comes to cell coverage, welcome to 1980. C'mon!!! Spend $59 and put some wi-fi routers in the cabins!!! The idea that you have to hang out in the restaurant because that's the only (only) place on site where you can get any cell coverage is ridiculous. There's better coverage in Lassen. Our Friday arrival was very pleasant and we were greeted by the Inn Keeper. Room was very quiet and clean. Bed was comfortable and hot tub was ideal (room #3). Ordered a charcuterie board that was delicious. Had about 4-5 inches of fresh snow overnight the first night which made the day in Lassen spectacular. read more

Not high end like they advertise. Needs improvements for the price if they're going to advertise as luxury. We paid $429 a night and stayed 3 nights. I feel totally ripped off for what I got for that price. The bad: Mattress: not a high quality mattress for the price terrible mattress. No air conditioning: self explanatory. It was hot as hell with highs over 97 degrees. No fans in the rooms either. Just an overhead fan. Shower: emptied soap containers that we had to go and ask to be refilled. Emptied tissue box in the room on arrival. Privacy: lack of privacy. If I'm on the toilet I can see outside due to incredibly poor window blinds. When I'm naked in my room, people can see from the outside. They simply don't provide the privacy needed. Also no blackout lighting so I hope you like waking up with the sun in your eyes at 5 am. Parking: very limited parking by the cabins however can park by the restaurant Limited WiFi: no WiFi in the rooms which is mind blowing you have WiFi in the lodge but can't provide WiFi in the rooms? Iron: dirty iron that put a dirt stain on my clothes. The good: Ambiance: cool cabins. You're paying for a private cabin with a cool view of cows and marmots Hot tub: clean and in working condition Cleanliness: was clean just some things missed like empty body wash and hand soaps. Heaters: not needed but had a working gas fireplace and portable heaters in the room Coffee: nespresso machine which is higher end and was nice with real creamer (1/2 & 1/2) Chairs: comfortable seating inside and outside the cabin. Also they provided food trays since there's not a table in the room which was handy. Still a small space. Stars: very bright sky's and cozy nights looking at the stars from your hot tub. Towels: we go through a lot of towels and they were replenished daily. Was nice to not have to ask for towels. Our family stayed at one of the cottages at Highlands Ranch Resort and it made for a perfect getaway/vacation! A big 'Thank You' to Payton, Casey, and Genesee for going above and beyond to ensure our family had a pleasant stay. We were able to explore Lassen visitors center and nearby hiking trails based on the close proximity to everything. The cottage (Serenity #3) at Highlands Ranch Resort was really nice with plenty of touches to make you feel at home. The food at the lodge was outstanding! Well done on both the breakfast/dinner menus and especially the quality of food. Bonus: They carry my favorite whiskey, which is hard to find in public places and will remain nameless so I can ensure there's plenty remaining upon our return. If you're in the Los Angeles area and want a wonderful couples and/or family getaway...it's a simple flight from LAX to RDD, followed by a drive of a little more than an hour. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Highlands Ranch Resort. We stayed in the Meadows Edge cottage and it was lovely. We had an amazing private view of the meadow where we could watch the antics of the cows/calves, Canada geese and the darling marmot family that lives on property. The breakfast included with the cottage stay was perfect before heading into Lassen to hike. You order off a menu and there are many choices. The blueberry pancakes were oh so good! We also ate dinner at the restaurant and the food was incredible. So many choices. The dragon fruit sorbet was the best! The wait staff was also so friendly. We stayed at Highlands due to the close proximity of Lassen Volcanic NP. It was an easy drive to the park where we celebrated my birthday by hiking Lassen Peak! read more

Highlands Ranch Resort (HRR) is a pleasant spot to stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I've been wanting to make the trip to eat since they opened. I made a reservation on Yelp! for lunch for two at 12:30 pm on our way home from Lake Almanor. It's only a seven minute detour from our Chico turn-off west. We arrived 15 minutes early and they were able to seat us right away. We chose an inside booth vs the patio. There were four or five couples on the patio, three people at the bar and us. We ordered the grapefruit cocktail with Tanqueray, which took a bit to be served but the wait staff are so friendly it was easy to overlook. HHR has cabins next to restaurant, a hotel, RV campground & store are across the street. The scenery of Childs Meadow is gorgeous with Mt. Lassen in the background and close to take hike. The compound is a popular destination (haven't been able to get a cabin rental in over two years) & beautiful wedding venue. In fact the staff said they had a late night from a wedding the day before. We enjoyed our lunch of grilled cheese and taco salad. I cannot say enough good things about my visit there. My husband and I stayed in one of the cottages for our 25th anniversary. We chose the Maverick cottage due to its accessibility of wheelchairs. It's was just perfect. We were greeted with smiling faces and the gal, Kerri, that took us to the cottage was delightful. She had champagne and fresh fruit waiting for us as well as the fixings for some Bloody Mary's. The room was neat, clean and private. We ate all meals in the restaurant and were very pleased with the quality of the food. Our favorite part though was our server, Genessee. That girl knows her job! She was so friendly and accommodating and took the time to chat with us. By the time we left we were all on a first name basis. I would not hesitate to go back! read more

After a few months of quarantine & rescheduling our stay here, this was our first weekend getaway in what seemed to be a long time! We stayed here the night of June 6 after visiting Burney Falls & Volcanic National Park (both are must DO's if you're in the area). The cottage we booked was Serenity. It was intimate, romantic & cozy for two. This particular cottage comes with a king bed, fireplace, upstairs loft for a 3rd person, mini coffee station, TV, outdoor hot tub, private bath with stone shower & heated floors. Views of the meadows, trees, and mountains from every direction. This is the place to unwind, throw out your phone (no wifi unless you're in the restaurant), enjoy nature, views, and the fresh mountain air! We also had dinner at the Highland Ranch Resort Restaurant and food was excellent! Hubby ordered the steak & I had the fried chicken. Breakfast comes with the stay and is hand delivered to you in the morning: coffee, OJ, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, muffins, scones, fruit cup, cheese. Everything was delicious! A few things to note..this is the mountains and weather is unpredictable out here. We were up in Lassen Volcanic Park enjoying the fumaroles when all of a sudden it hailed good size ice! After we checked into the resort and barely made it back into our car when it RAINED and HAILED at the same time. Big chunks of ice like slushy coming down. Even though its June/Summer bring warm jackets/sweaters for unpredictable weather and for those chilly mornings! read more

Celebrated another Birthday at Highlands Ranch. Enjoyed the Meadows Edge Cottage and experienced the hot tub watching big flakes of snow come down and the beauty of a snow covered meadow. The staff were all so kind, the Chef did an amazing, very satisfying presentation every meal. We ate so much there, it was so good. The Bartender makes thee best chocolate martinis and I fell for the peanut butter hot chocolate too! Its a peaceful place to go to unwind, watch Gods creation and beauty, even got out and snow shoed in the Meadow. Have vacationed with them several years with different groups, hubby, girlfriends, daughter and granddaughter and every single time it was wonderful. Close to Lassen park,easy drive for all season activities on and around the mountain. One thing I would love to see added is ottomans for the chairs n the rooms, so you can kick your feet up in front of the fire place while having your cocktail. read more

We have eaten at Highlands many times, but never stayed there (we own a cabin nearby). This weekend we had friends stay there and show us their cabin. It was really beautifully appointed. They said the bed was comfortable, and their favorite part was the heated floors. We all had dinner their and everything we ordered was delicious, but the favorite was definitely the fried chicken. We all agreed that was the best taste of the night. We went out by the outdoor fire after dinner and enjoyed the screwball hot chocolates for dessert. What a great night! Would highly recommend Highlands Ranch for anyone wanting a weekend away or just a nice dinner out if you stay nearby. read more

We stayed 3 nights in Timber Ridge cottage and ate dinner in the restaurant each night and breakfast each morning. First, the pros. The setting on the meadow/pasture is lovely, and the cottages are attractive. There are cows and their calves wandering the meadows and marmots chasing each other in the grass. Very bucolic. The cottage was nicely decorated but small. There was good counter space in the bathroom and a large shower. The bed was comfortable but not luxurious. The resort is close to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The food was the best in the area because it is the only food nearby. Although they don't have any competition, they still make an effort. It is good dining if not fine dining. The staff in the office and the restaurant were all friendly and helpful. The cons: We spent $450 per night for a cabin that did not have air conditioning or shades that covered the entire window or were black out shades. The shades do not block the sun or your neighbors from seeing inside. The temperature was over 100° each day we were there. Since the cottages are fairly new, and global warming exists, AC should have been installed. To add insult to injury, the heated bathroom floor was set to 104° and locked so that it couldn't be shut off. In addition, there is a shower curtain in the walk-in shower instead of a glass door. High prices should mean high quality. In fact, the toilet seat isn't even a soft close seat. These details make the cottage seem it was built on the cheap. Finally, there is no WI-FI in the cottage, only in the lodge. These cons reduce this resort from a place asking $450/night to something far less. read more

My wife and I stayed 2 nights in the Meadows Edge cabin. The cabin was very well appointed, and the view of the meadow and the mountain beyond was amazing, particularly from the well-screened hot tub at night. The moon was unbelievably bright with very little light pollution. We ate both dinners and breakfasts at the lodge, and the food was excellent. The tenderloins were some of the best we've had in recent memory, and the buffalo was unique and delicious as well. Overall the staff was very friendly and accommodating, our servers were excellent, seemed to enjoy working at the lodge, which makes a big difference. The one downside to the visit, and I won't take away any stars for it, was the lack of internet, or even a phone in the room. I wouldn't have minded having to go to the lodge to get internet, but it closed at 9 and didn't open until the next morning at 8 for breakfast. A minor annoyance, except we had no cell phone signal either. We're both at retirement age, so medical emergencies are always a possibility, and we had no way to contact anyone if that had been the case. Other than that, our stay was great, and we'd consider returning in the future. read more

My husband and I just did a weekend get away here and absolutely loved it. Our room was super cozy, very clean, and perfect for the snowy weekend we had. The lodge was beautiful and great to hang out and have a cocktail. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner here and both were amazing. They hotel is a 10 min drive from the entrance of Lassen National Park. The store across the street rents snow shoes and were super easy to work with.
