Yes, the meal selection here is smaller than LG7, but the siu mei (Cantonese roasted meats) here is allegedly tastier (but no goose). My meals have ranged from 21-25 HKD. Many students on campus dislike the egg tarts here, but I actually liked them a LOT, more than the famous Tai Cheong egg tarts, so it is up to personal taste-- Canteen II egg tarts are more creamy/custard like with the flaky crust, as opposed to Tai Cheong's jelly-like consistency and more cookie-like crust. These egg tarts are only 3 HKD, but there are only two batches a day, ~9 AM and ~3 PM. In the morning, they put out a good selection of buns, which vary day-to-day. I highly recommend their pineapple bun and Italian rosemary ciabatta. The tuna bun was okay, and I would not get their sausage and cheese but again. The buns range from 4-6 HKD. The outdoor seating has beautiful views of the Pacific.

Kam Wah Cafe is also famous for their freshly baked Pineapple Bun and Butter. Can't start your day without some HK Milk Tea and Iced Ovaltine. My son said it's a good thing the nai cha in the states are not as good because he was starting to develop an addiction. Lol. For those of you who don't know, it's made with Ceylon leaves, evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. The French toast was so damn delicious but a bit indulgent. I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. One of them took the time to help us navigate the huge menu and recommended a few items. I would come back again and again if I could. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule. Aside from the classic breakfast items, they also offer many delicious rice and noodle dishes in the afternoon.

We got here fairly early, so we didn't have to wait for a table. Service was as expected - quick, efficient, and no nonsense. A tell-tale sign of a good HK cafe. The food just hit the spot for me, bringing me right back to my childhood memories of eating this on weekend mornings at our local HK cafe. The location of the Po Lam store is on the ground level, phase 2, next to the movie theatre. I haven't had their dimsum in 4 years and it was just as good as I remembered them to be. Ambience not the cleanest: a hole-in-wall, re-wash all your dishes place. But great dimsum that's pretty cheap - hence they are known as the most affordable Michelin Star restaurant in the world, with 1 star for good quality tasting food for price range. This location is just one of their many Tim Ho Wan branches so if this location is too far for you, there's several other branches in HK and even elsewhere in the world (e.g. NYC). Take out is an option- especially if you have children you don't want touching all the less clean surface areas. They do have high chairs and they don't exempt tea charge for toddlers. As for the dishes, our favorites were the Baked Bun with BBQ Pork and Steamed Egg Cake, which they are known for and indeed taste delicious. Hubby liked their Pan Fried Turnip Cake. We also liked the Glutinous Rice Dumpling which was 1 huge leaf wrapped steamed rice with meat (law mae gae). The Steamed Rice with Chicken Feet and Spareribs was another tasty dish. The Steamed Pork Dumpling with Shrimp (har gow) and Deep Fried Dumplings filled with Pork (ham sui gwok) were OK but was smaller than usual and didn't stand out. The Vermicelli with Beef Roll is one to avoid since the beef in it was too chewy. Overall, great tasting dishes! If looking for elevator to take you down to the lowest level of the mall where they are located, find the elevator on the 2nd floor next to Manning Kids.

Switch for inferior fat ridden cut…read more 2 years ago, I went tom the cheapest highly rated HK steak place near Kowloon Clear Water Bay. I ordered their 360HKD, top USA grade rib eye & the 90 lunch special. Oddly the lunch special Aussie ribeye was superior to the USDA top grade steak. Live and learn. Today, I went for the 2nd time to a steakplace & butcher near IAPM, I was abit paranoid that last weeks NY Steak- 112RMB half price, that I was given an inferior cut. This week the same waiter greeted me. And told me whatever U lorder today I get an 1/2 off coupon even if it is a day special. I adjusted cheaper my order to the cheapest Aussie 500grams Chateaubriand for 298rmb + 149 rmb voucher. When I got it, I was astonished that it was a steak-like that I had maybe 20years ago in SanFrancisco. Only w/salt & pepper, the taste & quality was well-worth it. Making me realize that 2years ago, I was ripped off at that HK steak restaurant!
