I went in for a haircut appointment. Originally I had scheduled with a stylist who then apparently needed maternity leave after I scheduled. Ok fine whatever things happen. Guess they didn't take me serious about asking for the same level of stylist. I didn't ask for someone cheap. The haircut I received was NOTHING like the initial photo grouping that I had asked for. She took over a foot off of the back of my head and now it feels like I have a bald area in the back. I can't get it fixed because the top layers are so short they almost touch the top of my ears. Mind you my hair was past my cleavage. The sides don't match in length or thickness. It looks like I have the Kate plus eight haircut with a mullet length attached on the bottom. Almost like the jellyfish hair. If don't style my hair at all and it looks like shit. I even mentioned that I air dry and I like having my hair up. I can't have all of my hair up anymore. I can't air dry anymore. I wish I had never even saw this place. I can't even fix it for at least few months now and I'm supposed to get married in less than a year.... read more

Great experiences with Kayla, my waxing technician. She does an amazing job! However, the manager Lindsay needs a customer service makeover. I had an experience today that allowed me to understand because a person has a title does not mean the duties and responsibilities fit with their skill set. I will continue to go here for services. Faye did a fantastic job for me, really took her time (my hair is thick and unruly and requires a lot of elbow grease). I gave her general idea and she ran with it, giving me a beautiful result! Only $42 for shampoo and style, good availability on short notice and able to schedule my visit online. Super easy and exactly what I was looking for! I love the ambiance of the salon, feels like a real local spot. I appreciated its location on Brown Street as well, so can easily get some grub after getting your cut. Beautiful plants and rustic decor, all the stylists seemed super nice and accommodating. I have previously gone to the main Centerville location but thought I'd give this place a try. Coming to Dayton for a friend's wedding, I decided last minute to get a manicure and pedicure. When I called Square One the morning of the wedding, I was pleasantly surprised that they could fit me in for a manicure and pedicure that morning. I drove over from my hotel and was seen by Darchell for a wonderful manicure and pedicure. The salon and spa is very modernly designed and has a wonderful open feel to it. They offer you coffee, water, or tea when you arrive (but I had stopped by the Starbucks next door). Darchell did a phenomenal job with both my manicure and pedicure. She made sure the water temperature was to my liking, her grooming and trimming of my nails was to my liking, and that I enjoyed my nail polish color choice. She was a joy to talk to and made my whole experience wonderful. I hadn't trusted anyone with my hair in YEARS before visiting Square One Salon & Spa! Tori did a great job with my cut and colour and I plan on going back! Yelp and Google listed this business as wheelchair accessible, but there is no wheelchair ramp. There are stairs to the doors in and hair services take place on a second floor accessible only by stairs. If you're able to use a cane, you can navigate around the salon easily. :) They accept credit cards and there is parking available out back. So, I went to a cheap hair place (will remain anonymous) and got a distorted pixie cut. Well, I wanted it fixed.... Then I went to Square One Salon on Brown St. and the stylist fixed it. Also, got a complimentary face massage, hot towel on my face and neck, relaxing head wash and a wonderful hair cut. True art work. She fixed it. I do not remember her name, but she has beautiful purple hair. And the price was low, so I bought hair products. I recommend this place. read more

I went to Square One for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. Liz is the first new person I have trusted with my hair in years, she did a great job. My service was accompanied by​ a free facial which was super relaxing and a great added bonus. Before I get into what made my experience less than preferential, let me say: If it were not for the lady who did my makeup and eyebrows, I would rate my experience a complete zero. Now on to my experience: When I called to make the appointment I was only planning on getting a pedicure, but the lady on the phone stated there was a "buy one get one" promotion going on for mani's and pedi's so I said why not. Throughout the entire phone call my appointment went from solely a pedicure to a manicure, pedicure, hair and makeup. They were all reasonably priced, so I wasn't complaining. When I arrived on the day of my appointment I received my pedicure first. Apparently this location was exceptionally busy so they had no hot water. I'm not sure if anyone has ever experienced a cold pedicure, but it was less than enjoyable and not nearly as effective as it should have been because calluses and such cannot properly soak and dissolve in cold water. But I was working on a brief (I am a law student) so I did not have time to deal with the water, I figured the rest of my services would be better and would make this a more enjoyable experience. I then received my manicure and the lady was very sweet, but she spoke of her dislike for doing nails the entire service. Mind you there are now two ladies in the pedicure chairs beside me (caucasian females which I wish did not matter or need to be stated) and there is a gentleman who works at the salon running up and down the stairs pouring steaming hot water in their tubs, not sure why I did not receive the same treatment, but I digress. Next it was time for hair. I have curly, healthy, virgin hair. Since I cut it, I have not straightened, permed, dyed, or treated other than shampoo and an occasional leave in conditioner to keep my hair healthy for if I decide to donate it again. For these reasons I specifically requested a curly hair specialist. But when I saw the girl could have been my age or younger, I figured this wasn't possible. She brushed my hair with hard bristles DRY. If you have curly hair then you know the excessive amounts of breakage she was causing to my hair by doing this. HONESTLY ITS COMMON SENSE FOR ANYONE WHO HAS TOUCHED HAIR. Or at least I thought. Then I had to get my hair washed and of course here comes the FREEZING COLD WATER again. But I just trying to relax as this point. I just wanted this to be over so I could get out of this place. Then she gives me a "blow out", I am not sure what it is about people WITHOUT curly hair that automatically makes them want to straighten it and make it look like theirs, but you should probably relay the message from phone call reservations regarding their preferences to the stylist prior to putting me at her mercy. I expressed my discontent with the blow out and straightening but for fear of looking like a complete crazy person because this woman CLEARLY did not know how to do curly hair, I caved. After straightening my hair for the first time in years, she says she would like to cut my hair because its uneven. Mind you my hair looked perfectly fine curly! I told her I am not used to getting my hair cut straight and I am worried about how it will look curly considering curly is how I ALWAYS wear my hair. She proceeded to tell me, the woman who has had curly hair all her life and has worn it/cut it curly NONSTOP for over 4 years that they "always cut curly hair when its straight." Not sure how much sense that makes but for those of you without curly hair just ask yourself: why would you EVER straighten someone's hair to cut it when they ALWAYS wear their hair curly? Doesn't make much sense does it? But whatever, I didn't have much time and I had an event that evening so I let her cut it against my preferences because what other option did I really have at this point? My hair was flat and dull, even the lady doing my makeup said she should've put curls or something in my hair (ironic, I know). Now I am getting my makeup done and this lady was the absolute sweetest. She did my eyebrows quickly to make the makeup really pop after application and I finished my services much better than I began them. Upon payment I was over charged and had to discuss the changes for over 10 minutes. I am not sure why someone who reserved ahead of time should have to remind them of their "buy one get one" promotion and other discounts I was told of over the phone. But at least I am leaving at this point and I refrained from discussing my discontent. So now it is about a week later, my manicure is destroyed, my hair looks so awful curly I nearly broke down in tears today, and my feet are more dry and scratchy than they were before the pedicure. Coming from someone who has worked in the service industry, I pray this was just an awful experience for me and its uncommon. Maybe don't go on a Saturday, I'm not sure. But PLEASE if you take anything from this review, DO NOT get your curly hair cut here please. read more

I called for an appointment to get my hair cut, totally spur of the moment. The gentleman who answered my call said if I could be there in 15 minutes it could be done today! Just what I wanted to hear! I arrived with two minutes to spare. I was greeted warmly by name and offered something to drink. The lobby was clean and welcoming. I went upstairs and was promptly met by Liz. She was delightful. We discussed what I was looking for and proceeded to the wash bowl. It has been years since I have had the full salon experience.After a scalp massaging shampoo ,Liz offered a complimentary mini facial. It was amazing ! An unexpected treat ! My hair is very long and she did exactly what we discussed. I am more than pleased to recommend Liz to my friends and co workers. This was just what I needed today, 45 minutes of pure BLISS!!! Went to get a gel manicure, that was completed by Kayla. Kayla was very nice, pleasant to talk to, and she did a fantastic job on my nails. She also does skin care and was open to questions about my skin while she was doing my manicure. She had some great recommendations. I will definitely be back to see Kayla, not only to get my nails done, but for some skin care as well!!
