Great burgers - but terrible service if you're a solo diner. Only come here if you're in a group. Looking through prior reviews, it appears my experience late afternoon on Saturday August 12th isn't unique: some patrons are warmly greeted and served rapidly, while others are neglected or (as in my case) completely ignored by the waitstaff after being seated. This was my second visit here and the experience was shockingly negative this time around. After watching the waitstaff fawning over parties seated after I had arrived, I handed the menu back to the person who seated me and told them I was going elsewhere, to any place where the servers would actually see me. The service was poor with a lack of customer service when we had to ask where our food was the server stated that the kitchen "didn't see our ticket." Loved the Ahi Tuna Burger with its soy saucy glazed edges. And who doesn't like a Fried Pickle Spear! The tempura onion rings were different by themselves but the Sriracha mayo to dip them in was a good touch. Everyone else in my party also really enjoyed their burgers. I tried a bite of the Lamb Burger and was not disappointed. Juicy is just the first bite. All consequent bites are flavorful and inevitably delicious moments of textures between crunchy onions and fresh lettuce. I really like Square Burger! Nice & laid back atmosphere. Floor plan is very open! What's funny is that I've actually never tried their burgers before! Whenever I stop by, I get their soup and salad and it is always so delicious! The location of Square Burger is also SOOO convenient! I have been here three times. Each time I was helped by Nick at the Bar. Overall a Very real person, made my dinning experience fantastic. The restaurants looks very modern and is clean. All five of us really enjoyed our burgers, particularly the Lamb Burger was outstanding with a side of delicious sweet potato fries. My son pronounced the Poached Lobster Mac & Cheese Gratin too bland ...but I noticed that it disappeared all right. My wife was disappointed that the burgers weren't square after all but enjoyed hers and pronounced the fried dill pickle spear especially good. Service was courteous, attentive, and helpful. Dined here on a hot summer evening recently. It's situated on a corner on the history McKinney downtown square, and there's so much to see and experience here. The decor is fairly industrial and not fussy, and we were seated in a nice, comfortable booth that had seating for two, or four VERY cozy people :) As for the food, burgers rule here, as the name suggests. My dining partner and I both chose burgers and a "half and half" fries (regular and sweet potato). In hindsight, we should have gotten just one order of fries; there were way too many. Both types of fries were cut fairly small, and were crisp, well seasoned, and delicious, served with neat little crocks of ketchup and mayo for dipping. My burger was the Smoky Jack, featuring smoked mozzarella, Monterrey jack, bacon, and onion strings, served a perfect medium as ordered. The bun was delicious, if a bit thick, and the meat was juicy and well seasoned. A bit of mustard made this a really solid burger, one I'd definitely eat again. A nice "edible garnish" was a battered and fried pickle spear, it was really good. Overall, this was a really good meal, and I'd definitely like to explore more of their menu. The restaurant was so delicious! It wasn't too busy so we were sat immediately, and our server was super sweet. We didn't get much food just some munchies, but either way they were delicious! The onion rings were super well done and the mac & cheese was very good too. It's always clean, they played great music, and have a large assortment of choices. Except if you're vegan. Then you have to get the house salad no cheese. If I were the owner I would consider adding some kind of vegan burger, impossible, beyond, or even a black bean signature patty. Seeing as I'm vegan I couldn't really get dinner here haha! But it was a good vibe! read more

On a mundane Sunday looking for a place to grab a bite to eat with some friends we end up at the Square Burger. Although the place was not busy there was a good vibe. Ample staff, quickly tended to and told to sit wherever we liked. In no time waitress comes with menus and a drink menu. Lots of beer options, nice array of local delights. Tried a Mexican chocolate stout to kick off the night and my girlfriend went with the blood orange weissbier. Both very good. On to the main event, the food. Looked over the menu which had a nice variety of options, burgers being my staple of course. But to start we went with what they called Crispy Chicken wings. We asked how crispy is crispy... long story short we asked for a second fry and they did not disappoint. Although the wing sauce reduces the crunchiness, next time order the wing sauce on the side. Next stop, main course. I ordered the lamb burger served on a pita with tzatziki sauce. Onion rings and spicy ketchup were a nice addition. The girlfriend has fish and chips which on the one hand was good cause it appeared to be freshly made. Don't you just hate it when it is a pre-processed big fish stick?? Side of fries (uniquely cut) and some tartar sauce to bat. Our friends had a salmon and tuna burger which looked very good as well. All in all a place I would recommend as the food and drinks were good. But there are still so many other places in McKinney and surrounding areas we need to try. read more

Legit one of the worst places I have ever dined in, simply because of service. I'm absolutely appalled at the service here, it was definitely top three as worst dining service that I've ever had. The only thing saving it for zero stars is that the food is not bad. Let's start with the food. I got the parimagiana with sweet potato fries. The burger was actually pretty good! I liked the patty (tasted fresh and was cooked well). The fries were thin which I like, but also oddly wayy too sweet for me (almost sugary). The mayo dipping sauce on the side was pretty tasty though. FYI THE FRIES ARE FREE ON THE SIDE so if you do end up going here (highly recommend you save your time and money but if you did end up here) get the free fries because they don't tell you that fries come for free on the side :/ They also didn't ask half of my party if they wanted a side or not. They also charge if you ask for sauce like bbq (which they didn't tell my friend AND the waitress put the charge on my tab) So... let's talk about service. One of my friends gets there early and gets a table for us. What I thought she meant was she got seated by someone. But then we get there and she says that no one has approached her since she got there. We sit down and get menus from this one lady. Then we proceed to wait for almost 15 minutes. We are EXTREMELY patient people and even tried waving the waitress down but she just avoided eye contact. At one point we all stopped and just stared down the waitress that gave us our menus. Eventually we got up and talked to someone and a different girl comes over and says "what's up" like we haven't been sitting here for 10 plus minutes. Keep in mind, the restaurant isn't very busy which makes the whole interaction even more awkward. We say that we are ready to order and she goes "oh okay I'll get your waitress" and goes over to talk to the original lady. After some back and forth, she then comes back and says "oh I guess I'm your waitress now". Keep in mind this is a... seemingly less diverse area and we were the only group of asians there... now I'm not saying they are racist, but... I did notice the waitresses checking in on other groups more frequently than us. Overall, I would say I've never had a dining experience where just I wanted to walk out and find something else. Prices are high for the food and service and I feel extremely disappointed. I did not just drive 30 minutes to feel disrespected and spend more than I should for the quality. read more

Last time we were here (4 or so years ago) everything was great. Not so much last trip. Lazy mid afternoon. 2 other tables occupied. Lots of food crumbs on the floor. Covering on chairs and booths split. In general, this place needs a big reno and the staff counseled regarding maintaining a clean eating environment. Lastly, the food (other than the MEH onion rings, very good btw) took forever to arrive with only 2 other tables occupied. Come on guys, up your game. I ate at this place yesterday 7/28/23. I must have waited 30 minutes or longer for food. The waiter never checked to see how the food was and I had to ask for my check when I was ready to leave. I also had to ask twice for a container for the burger my wife didn't eat. The waiter seemed to be somewhere else in his mind. The medium burger was as tough as leather and cooked very well done. No condiments at all. Just a dry bun. The fries seemed to be the small leftover pieces. My drink was empty about half way through eating, I was never offered any more. I was at square burger today with my boss and some partners for a lunch meeting, I ordered a burger made as a salad due to a gluten sensitivity. There was a bunch rotten greens slimy mush, the "burger" to salad ratio was absolutely insane. The mountain of greens and lack of literally anything else was shocking. I'd never explored downtown Mckinney before and happened to run across this little gem! Excellent service, staff, and food. The beef is all locally grown from a butcher right down the street and brought to the restaurant every morning. The menu is elaborate and offers a great variety for all different types of people. I genuinely enjoyed my burger, and I've had a lot of different kinds! I ordered the simple square burger with sharp cheddar. It came elegantly plated with an array of sauces, and was cooked perfectly medium well. It still had a little pink, which I didn't mind at all. It came with a side of a fried pickle as well. I ordered tempura fried colossal onion rings on the side for $2.50. They have chefs specials everyday. I want to go back to try more some day! read more
