I'm amazed that I did not know there was a drive-through doughnut shop in this area! I love this place! And they are still open, through the pandemic. Thank goodness. I am not sure I am going to be able to deal with all this for a year or two, but this doughnut shop will help me to deal with it. :) read more

Spudnuts Donuts - "Here's looking at you, kid!" - Donuts Near Me - Sacramento, California

Shame on me...this is actually the closest donut shop to my house, but it's been years (years!) since I've been to Spudnuts. My donut cravings are usually quelled by Donut Star, about an extra mile away. But this particular morning (I blame it on Daylight Saving) I needed a donut NOW, and from a real donut shop, not a grocery store. I know Spudnuts has a drive-thru but I like to see the merchandise before I buy it. There was one teenaged customer in front of me, and he kept saying the same thing, and the lady (owner? manager? baker? cashier? maybe all of the above?) kept answering differently. Not sure if this was their usual conversation (he seemed like a regular) but I found it comical...it took a few unnecessary minutes to get one donut and an oj. She was very sweet and patient though. I got 2 of the last 3 apple fritters, 2 glazed old-fashions, 2 maple bars, and half-a-dozen donut holes for $7.50 (+50 cents atm fee). I really wanted something custard-filled and was hoping she had some custard-filled donut holes that I read about in other reviews, but there weren't any. She kindly offered to fill one of the bars with custard but I was fine with what I had. She threw in extra donut holes in my bag. Yay! Donuts were good but they didn't taste super fresh...I think I went around 9am or 10am. Funny thing is though I ate the apple fritter the next morning after a few seconds of nuking, and it did not even taste like a day-old donut! If I need a donut fix in a hurry, I'll definitely stop by, or drive thru. read more

OMG. I'm typing with sticky fingers as I'm sitting in my car 1 minute out from Spudnuts. This is because I took a nibble on the apple fritter I bought and I couldn't stop myself. It needed to be consumed!!! They are super friendly and are a classic donut shop. If you're looking for the Kristy Kreme chain donut, move along because they make donuts here the way they SHOULD be. Chewy, soft, glazed, sprinkled and with that heavenly sugar smell. Super cheap, fast and a great selection. Excuse me now while I finish shoving my apple fitter into my mouth. read more

Super kind owner, amazing prices, coffee is top tier, donuts freshly made. Would come back anytime I'm in the area. Very mom and pop shop vibe it's great! read more

I've had two experiences with this donut shop the first was relatively decent. The second I waited 30 minutes in line behind a Subaru and when I get out the window I was given the hold on a minute I'm busy finger. Either hire some more people or close the drive-through. The drive-through is an absolute mess. read more

My daughter came across this gem of a place a couple years ago when she was cheerleading at a local high school. The donuts were soft and very good! I think they use potato flour which gives in a different consistency, but in a good way. Light and fluffy like a good donut should be! They open really early in the morning and we MIGHT have gone well before dawn a couple times since then as a nice like daddy daughter car trip. Well worth the loss of sleep and when you get home and take a nap, you have a second breakfast! read more

Spudnuts is my go-to donut shop in the Arden area! Spudnuts is hard to spot from the road, so pay attention to the small shop with a drive thru. Yes, the building and surrounding area looks older, but the quality donuts they sell won't make you think twice. I usually order the assorted dozen, which includes maple bars, twists, cake and old fashioned donuts. They run about $9 a box, but there is an additional $1 fee to use your card. The donuts have a slight crunch to them, which keeps them intact and not to mention texturally tasty. Nothing worse than a crumbly donut right before a meeting. They sell specialty donuts like apple fritters and bear claws. However, the custard donut holes are a must try. The donut holes are larger than most and has the perfect ratio of custard to donut. What separates this donut shop from others in the Arden area is the drive thru option. There is a small area to inside but seems like this place is geared for those on the go. So go ahead and get a pink box of Spudnut donuts. Definitely worth a trip. read more

Every family has their rituals and Spudnuts is included in one of ours. On the mornings that I pick my son up from visiting his dad's house we stop by Spudnuts for a quick bite and some coffee/chocolate milk. I have to laugh at the review complaining the donuts don't taste like potato. Who wants a potato flavored donut? Ew! Just go get some hash browns or tater tots and sprinkle a little sugar on them if that's the taste you are going for. What is important about the use of potato flour as opposed to the standard flour is that it makes lighter, fluffier, tastier donuts. If you have ever compared the difference between regular wheat bread and potato bread then you'll understand. The donuts aren't overly glazed or sugared which is a plus for me because I could never handle the over glazing of Krispy Kreme. The apple fritters are huge with chunks of apple inside and a slight crispy chewy crust. Tasty, but too big for me to finish one and I usually have to take half home or skip it all together and order something smaller. They also serve Java City coffee, croissants (filled or plain), and lunch time items (instant noodles, microwavable items, etc). There is a case with beverages like apple juice, bottled coffee, and I think some energy drinks, but I'm not totally sure since I don't get anything out of there very often. It isn't trendy or cool inside. It's just a funky little donut shop. They fill your order not only from a case, but the wall behind them. I mention that because some people only see the case and don't bother to look past the person getting the donuts. The people are friendly and patient with those having a difficult time deciding. The parking lot is kind of small, but most people get the donuts and go, so it isn't a problem. There is also a DRIVE-THRU. I'm not a donut eating maniac, but I gave this place 5 stars because it is the best place to go for the occasional donut fix. read more

I came here on Wednesday morning before work because I am on a mission to find the best donut shop in the Arden-Arcade area. Unfortunately, this isn't it. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but just wasn't great. Somewhere in the middle towards the bottom. I was surprised there was no one in the drive thru when I stopped by, and only two people inside. I chose to go inside and saw the vast selection of donuts they had on display. I think you could find almost anything here! I chose a Glazed Buttermilk, a Chocolate Bar and a Maple Ring (I don't know what the official name is). Don't make the mistake like I did and only pick from the display case in front. LOOK UP! They have an entire display case behind it on the wall as well. The Glazed Buttermilk was my favorite! I usually only see these with chocolate or maple, so I loved this combination. The Chocolate Bar was OK, I liked the chocolate icing but it seemed a little overdone on the bottom so it wasn't very light. The Maple Ring I didn't like at all! I took two bites and threw it away, which if you know me and donuts, I never do! It was too oily for me and was crunchy on the outside and hollow inside. Not fluffy or nice, very weird. Overall, I would eat one of their donuts if someone brought a bunch back to the office, but I probably won't seek them out again. Only out of donut desperation!!!!! read more

Perhaps I stopped on a bad day. I wanted spud nuts. They no longer make them. The woman at the drive up did not speak English and didn't understand what I was asking for. The manager came to help and still I did not get what I ordered. I've never had a bear claw that was glazed and Apple Filled. They did throw in 3 donut holes and the drive up window was convenient but I won't stop here again. * I don't criticize product quality. The raised glazed donuts are excellent. read more

Butter Milk !! Butter Milk !! Butter Milk !! the Asian lady is sooo nice here. I usually come in here once a week or every two weeks to get my butter melt fix and it is so damn good. It's not overly sweet which I love and the inside is a nice mixture of crunchy but fluff. It's wierd. It's like biting into a cloud and a fluffy chiffon cake at the same time. You feel the bread melt inside and it feels amazing!! I love savoring each bite. This place is not the traditional donut place because not everything is being mass produced. The lady will make fresh donuts if she's out and I feel bad when there are customers demanding a huge list of things from her or trying to rush this tiny 5'2'' lady to get their orders like she works at some McDonalds or something. Jesus people. I read some of the negative reviews and honestly I think ya'll want donuts that are super sweet or FRESH pipin hot donuts. Reality is that no donut shop does that anymore and overly sweet donuts will just lead yall to have a stomach ache and then we'll start seeing complaints that you got sick from the place. I give the lady props for managing this place by her self. read more

I am used to drive-thrus for coffee or quick meals, but donut drive-thrus are fairly new to me. When I saw Spudnuts for the first time, I made a mental note to stop here at some point. Arden restaurants and businesses have a lot to offer and with partially smoothed-out bedhead on a late weekend morning, I ventured through the drive-thru and was not disappointed. You drive right to the window (no electronic menu or ordering box at which to first stop) and there is a menu hanging above the drive-thru window displaying the prices and varieties of donuts. You can also walk straight into the shop. My chocolate glazed donut was good and as well as the glazed donut holes (a dozen donut holes are $1.50). The employee was friendly, efficient and threw in a complimentary glazed donut, making my trip down Arden even better since I have two days worth of breakfast now. Fun place and good donuts based on my one trip there. read more

Great donut shop, and the owners are so nice!! We came in the day after Christmas and had such a great experience. We order 3 breakfast sandwiches and 3 donuts. They threw in some donut holes for the kids, which was nice. The employees (I believe they were the owners) were very nice and made us all feel very welcomed. The food was all delicious and the service was great. We will be back! read more

Kind workers, clean old school ambiance, and amazingly fluffy donuts. Doesn't get much better than that!

I was craving Krispy Kreme's glazed donuts. But this was closer, so I decided to give them a shot. So worth it! I would dare to say it was better the KK. New favorite spot read more

Terrific donuts. The soft, puffy, tender donuts you'd hope for are prepared here daily. I enjoy the maple bars and donut holes (so convenient)! The breakfast sandwiches are exactly what you'd hope for. Other spudnut locations will cook your egg the way you prefer, over medium, over easy, etc. however this location uses the microwave method I believe and prepares decent scrambled egg patties. Sometimes though I need a runny yolk, as any breakfast sandwich connoisseur desires. If this location can quickly fry up an egg with a dripping yolk, they will dominate the breakfast sandwich world... at least in Arden-Arcade. read more

First time to try this donut place wow the donut tasted so good. My grandkid's like there donut holes I highly recommend this place.

I always get my iced white mochas or Vietnamese coffees here. Spudnuts has low prices and fast service. I also love that they have a drive-thru. read more

I just went through the drive-thru for a couple donuts for my trip home--you know, that snack you don't want anyone to know about so you sneak through the drive-thru because if you don't get out of your car no one will know, therefore it doesn't count? Yep. That snack. Well, the guy at the window was so inviting. His happy, smiling face and his helpful donut guidance really brightened my day. It made me so joyful that I didn't even need the donut-fix anymore. So I left. Just kidding. I ordered 2 maple bars with custard (for a friend, of course) and he gave me an extra maple covered donut! It's like he's trying to get me hooked or something...'first one's free'--wink wink. Anyway, this place offers genuine kindness and yummy donuts. Enjoy. read more

You could go to Estelle's across the way and get a muffin for $8, and the creme freshe muffin is usually worth it, or visit your friendly neighborhood donut shop and have an apple fritter revelation for $3. And it's the size of 3 of those muffins. read more

Omg! I love these sugar laden heaven clouds. So soft, so fresh, so completely bad for you but oh-so worth it. The old fashioned and dense cake variety are perfect thick buttery and crusty with moist interior. The glazed are light airy then melt in your mouth and creamy! Do your inner child a favor and buy a dozen here. It won't dissapoint! I will be back ...again and again... read more

Spudnuts donuts are the BEST :) My boyfriend and I tried the old fashioned donut and cinnamon bun - they were both delicious! Can't wait to go back! read more

We had a local donut shop in Stockton named Lindy's Donuts on Charter Way that opened in the mid 1950's and went through 2 different owners, but recipes never changed. The second owner finally called it quits at age 76 this past March. Those donuts were made out of potato flour and they had a dense pastry like consistency to them that stood them apart from donuts made out of conventional flour. The end result was "melt in your mouth" deliciousness! These donuts, however, have a lighter & airier consistency to them and taste more like they are made out of conventional flour, but they said it's potato flour so I ask myself, why do these taste so different? They are delicious, nevertheless, but they don't taste like potato flour donuts to me. read more

I love coming here. My favorite is the chocolate croissant but they run out of it fast. Nevertheless their donuts are really good.

Kind people and best apple fritters in Sacramento! The cronuts are pretty bomb as well.

We love this place. Friendly owners. The donuts are excellent! Tasty warm or cold. Fresh and will be one of our return places especially when going to dimple records for books. A not to be missed place. read more

Tasty donuts and friendly service! They have a drive-thru which is always appreciated. The owner was so patient and sweet, he tried his best to explain all the menu options when I took a little long to decide. He gave me an extra donut just to try, a delicious glazed old fashioned I liked their many drink options which varied from coffee, smoothies, to Thai tea (which was good ~ a little on the sweet side). Will definitely be coming back some time soon. read more

Delicious donuts, croissant breakfast sandwiches, coffee and very professional and nice.

Okay this is my favorite donut place in all of Sacramento. The donuts are amazing, the Thai Teas are the best, (still can't get over how a donut shop serves Thai Tea in the first place and it's actually amazing) and the service is wonderful. I first started going here just occasionally when I first moved to Arden back in 2018 but over this last year I go every Friday. It is really fun for my now 2 year old toddler to have donut Friday's and they are so sweet to her! Every time we come in they hand my girl a donut hole and she loves to wave hi and bye to them, they are just wonderful. They also have a drive thru which is so convenient sometimes although I prefer to go in if I have the time. I can't wait until Covid-19 passes so I can start taking my daughter back in to get donuts, she definitely misses going in. read more

Place was hot inside. Coffee was lukewarm out of those containers on the counter. Donut with chocolate icing on top was a sticky mess because it was so damn hot in there. Nice people running it but I prefer my coffee from a hot pot or a hot machine like at a Chevron station. The room temperature might have been hotter than the coffee. I'll pass. read more

There is a drive through option which makes life much more easier when you're in a rush or have a sleeping toddler in the car. The employees are very friendly. It's such a sweet gesture that it definitely makes me feel welcomed and wanting to come back for more! read more

Yummy and warm donuts...open 430am which was great for me! I was able to buy for my crew for a special project.

Donut holes are just alright imo. I went in on a Sunday morning to appease my quick craving, got one sugar donut, one maple old fashioned, and my friend ordered a dozen donut holes. Shouldn't have ordered the donut holes, clearly not the specialty here. The sugar donut was good, nice and fluffy and light sugar makes it sublime. I enjoyed the old fashioned donut for its texture, different from the usual thick old fashioned which is kind of too dense and heavy. This old fashioned was lighter in that way, but still had the feel and look of an old fashioned. Overall, yum if choosing the right type and would go again :) read more

I love LoVe LOVE Spudnuts !!! They are light and fluffy because of potato flour and the glaze is the perfect balance of vanilla . It just so happens to be one of the oldest Dounts Chains in the US . So I feel we are so lucky to have one in Sacramento . We go a great deal to enjoy our dount fix and always get a dozen holes for the road . This morning we saw a sale sign in front of our Beloved Spudnuts :( The owner is ready to retire from the donut business which makes my heart so sad but understands it's time . I hope who ever buys Spudnuts keeps making the best fluffy light dounts I ever had . Till then enjoy them while you can :) read more

I have been meaning to stop by Spudnuts for months now. I am kicking myself that I didn't get there earlier. The service was great. Went here for the first time last week and the customer service was amazing! And don't get me started on the donuts! YUM

This is a cute, small family owned restaurant that serves a lot, and I mean a lot of doughnut options. The pricing is very reasonable for a large batch, it's made to perfection, and the service is extremely friendly; they gave my friend and I a small bag of doughnut holes as a bonus and it's actually a lot better than the doughnuts we ordered! Coffee is also served for early morning goers like yours truly if you need a breakfast run of sticky finger goodness. read more
