Can definitely tell that the food is not prepared with skills or attention like it used to be by the elderly lady owner. The younger workers are not as friendly and they hurried each customer out. Not the best service or relationship building, especially for long-time clients like myself. Don't see myself coming here unless I'm in the area or super craving for a donut. The donuts were fresh and tasty. Not totally over-the-top amazing, but definitely good and satisfying. We got two chocolate bars, plus two sugar twist and a crumb donut. That said, the customer service was a little... meh. Nothing terrible, just not super welcoming. We stopped in around 3pm, and the selection was pretty limited by then, which might've added to the overall vibe. We'll have to give it another try earlier in the day to see if the selection and maybe the service are better. Everyone can have an off day, right? I've been here 3x for my daughter, here's how it went.... Old Hispanic lady has a bad attitude problem and overlooks customers next in line, staff doesn't wash hands nor wear gloves/hair nets, smells dingy indoors and not like fresh baked donuts (indicates old donuts for sale), croissant tasted like dry dense Wonder Bread, "fresh juice" tasted like sugary store-bought juice, unsanitary tables and floors (indicative of nasty habits behind the glass), out of Boba bubbles, lattes don't come with espresso ($1.00 extra charge for one shot), .35 cent charge for orders under $5 paid by card, homeless people surround the entrance, sugar donut was dense and dry (2 days old??), hot/humid indoors, and just all around a flat dismissive customer service from all staff. Sacramento has plenty of other donut shops to spend your time/money and treat your families. This place needs to do better in every way. I could've dealt with day old donuts - but the nasty old lady and poor customer service ended it for me (I'm Hispanic, too). read more

Where you can find fresh donuts late afternoon, Donut Star is my choice. They are open until 7 pm and has fresh donut all day long. You don't see too many donut shops in a stand-alone buildings anymore. Donut Star is one of them. They've been in the exact location for many years when donut shops are everywhere. Most of the donut shops that opened at the same time are long gone. They are still there serving their customers even when we are in the pandemic. Their donuts are not overly sweet. Perfect taste for me. Not too oily too! I know! I know! Donuts are bad for me! But at least I feel better when I'm eating a donut with less sugar and less oil! Lol! read more

I came in one day and ordered the turkey and cheese croissant. It had a weird aftertaste, and the does seemed like it was not cooked all the way or something. It was very gooey, and it had to off taste to it. I've had their donuts which are delicious . Customer service is pretty good. The Mexican lady in the front sometimes gets my order wrong but it's probably just the language barrier. read more

Saturday may 4 2024 @ around 5:30pm. My sis and i came to this spot for some donuts. We have been here before but usually earlier in the A.M. now the donuts were good, however the service was horrible. The lady who worked there was very short and brief in a rude way when we asked about certain donuts. She never acknowledged us and gave us an attitude the whole time. I even asked to warm one up and she ignored it and slightly tossed our donuts on the counter to ring us up. I had to ask her again that id like my cream cheese croissant warmed. She was NOT helpful at all when i wanted a certain item that was not in the correct place she just said they didn't have it- and didn't even tell me what the item was that i pointed at - and again she was just rude to my sister and i which is why I'm being nice by giving the 3 stars.. when a gentleman came in right after us she was super friendly to him and than became cold again when my sister and i were paying for our item.. she picked and choosed who she wanted to be kind to.. horrible service.. when ive been here before earlier hours the other people are typically nicer however this was a bad experience. definitely needs to work on her customer service skills and not discriminate against people. read more

My favorite donut shop in Sac! Donut Star has the freshest classic donuts in town - you can smell it right when you enter the store. Make sure you come early because a lot of donuts are really popular and the store gets busy around rush hour. I always get a glazed twist and an old fashioned, but their croissant sandwiches and donut holes are to die for! The dough is light and fluffy; you can telltale why were baked fresh with quality ingredients the day of, unlike some other donuts I've had that can be chewy. Love this establishment even more now that there is a change of ownership. It is now Cambodian owned. They updated the menu! Serving boba and breakfast sandwiches now. The donut selections are the same and if not better. I believe it will continue to update. Always loved coming here while I am the shop. The previous owners were lovely Korean folks. Always happy and helpful. As for the new owners. They are even nicer. Very helpful. Was greeted and helped by a gorgeous woman named Sarai. The sandwich was I even came back the next day to get another lol. Highly recommend coming here for breakfast or your donut cravings. 10/10 ambiance. Right on the corner of howe and el camino avenue. My elderly folks don't get out and about much but they called two days in advance to place an order and Donut Star was happy to accept that order without payment in advance and have it fresh and ready for them several days later. Been going here for years. Last two times I notice it was be ran by a younger group of people and asked if they bought the shop. The young lady at the counter said it was her aunt and she took it over. let me tell you it was a bad move. Donuts are like hockey pucks. Like a week old. I went one day and got donuts for work and was highly disappointed and boss went the next week and it was the same. Refuse to go back and spend money on old gross donuts. Updating my review from 2 years ago. Donuts were good not the best but good. I like this place because it's one of the few places that is opened till later in evening that I can go to after work as most bakeries close at 2-3pm. I like that they have a great variety of donuts & their prices are reasonable. The employees which look like business owners are also friendly. The reason why I'm deducting a star is because they have big windows with blinds open in which the sun is directly hitting the donuts. Being summer it gets hot in Sacramento so those blinds should be kept closed the donuts that have frosting which most do where melted that doesn't look appetizing. Also there was a fly in there which disgusted me since it was flying around the donuts that should be taken care of easily with a fly swat though. Thank you. read more
