I don't know this is the only spudnuts donuts shop in Sacramento or not. But this is the only one I know in the area. Spudnuts are donuts that are actually made with mashed potatoes or potato flour. Same as potato bread if you have tasted it before. I love potato bread, and I love spudnuts even more! The donuts from Spudnuts Donuts are soft, not too sweet, and always fresh even overnight. More of the donuts will dry out and harder after one night. But the donuts from Spudnuts Donuts will taste almost the same after overnight! They have many regular customers they know what their customers like as soon as the customer walked into the store. I always think this is a good sign of quality and customer services. We always make a stop here on early mornings when we have a full day ahead of us. You can tell that the owners not only care about offering good eats, but they also care about their community. We're regulars, here. The guy already knows what we're there for. Always gets it right. Sometimes when we come too late (like during the day) they're sure to let me know what they have left. I LOVE that they have the drive-thru window. Having to pick up something quick, like donuts and a milk... it makes it EXTRA convenient for me and my 5 year old when we have other things to take care of for the day. The donuts are all freshly made and they keep the area clean. I think it's good that they have a small location. They'd probably put other small donut/bakery shops in the area out of business, in my opinion. It's a cute little donut shop. The hours that they are open are really good for the early risers who want fresh donuts and food. The staff is always friendly and they are quick to getting orders made and served out. It's a donut shop...you know donut shops. They aren't typically really appealing places. With that in mind, I'm giving them 5 stars. They have a drive thorough, so quick and easy. They are very nice. I got a text to pick up a few doughnuts, couldn't rely on Google to send me 10 miles away for the "nearest" donut shop. As soon as I stated looking at the road instead of my phone, boom, spudnuts! Best maple bars ever! I have been going here for decades. This is one reason I miss living in Sacramento. I wish there were other locations. Their maple bars melt in your mouth. So tender and a softness, a mouth feel that is delightful. These are appropriately sweet, but not too much so. Their other donuts are delicious too. So enjoy! I am a huge fan of this successfully small family business. They are quick, kind, clean, affordable, and their food is decent. Our family is hooked on the Vietnamese iced coffee! They take their time to make every drink to the customer's liking and the drive through is so convenient. Aside from that drink, we appreciate the unique donuts they have available. The Bacon Bars are a huge hit and I can rarely get my hands on one because they always sell out early in the morning. Crullers are hard to come by and they always have them, yay! O-M-G. I've been wanting to try a Spudnut ever since I saw the donut special on Travel Channel. My one chance was near Washington, but it was far from where I was staying. Then there was a location in SoCal, but it was fake. Now a location near my training center!!! Holy cow, I can't pass this up. So this morning I decided. Today is a Spudnut-like day. What to get? Glazed? Chocolate? Old fashioned? GLAZED all the way! Gotta get the classic before trying anything fancy. For 0.75 cents, I got a glazed spudnut. The one thing I noticed that it's a little fluffier? Hmm...not the right descriptor, perhaps, chewier? or a combination of both fluffy and chewy in texture. It isn't super sweat and you can slightly see the difference in texture with a normal donut. My daughter came across this gem of a place a couple years ago when she was cheerleading at a local high school. The donuts were soft and very good! I think they use potato flour which gives in a different consistency, but in a good way. Light and fluffy like a good donut should be! They open really early in the morning and we MIGHT have gone well before dawn a couple times since then as a nice like daddy daughter car trip. Shame on me...this is actually the closest donut shop to my house, but it's been years (years!) since I've been to Spudnuts. My donut cravings are usually quelled by Donut Star, about an extra mile away. But this particular morning (I blame it on Daylight Saving) I needed a donut NOW, and from a real donut shop, not a grocery store. I know Spudnuts has a drive-thru but I like to see the merchandise before I buy it. There was one teenaged customer in front of me, and he kept saying the same thing, and the lady (owner? manager? baker? cashier? maybe all of the above?) kept answering differently. Not sure if this was their usual conversation (he seemed like a regular) but I found it comical...it took a few unnecessary minutes to get one donut and an oj. She was very sweet and patient though. I got 2 of the last 3 apple fritters, 2 glazed old-fashions, 2 maple bars, and half-a-dozen donut holes for $7.50 (+50 cents atm fee). I really wanted something custard-filled and was hoping she had some custard-filled donut holes that I read about in other reviews, but there weren't any. She kindly offered to fill one of the bars with custard but I was fine with what I had. She threw in extra donut holes in my bag. Yay! Donuts were good but they didn't taste super fresh...I think I went around 9am or 10am. Funny thing is though I ate the apple fritter the next morning after a few seconds of nuking, and it did not even taste like a day-old donut! If I need a donut fix in a hurry, I'll definitely stop by, or drive thru. read more
