"Gotta Make the Doughnuts"...Dunkin' Hmph! I'm Spudin'. That's right Spudnuts! Named such for the use of Potato Flour in their dough, Spudnuts have been around for 60 years. After much talk on this little shop in Berea from my neighbor, I decided Sunday was a great day for a Spudnut. I walked in and was greeted by a nice young woman behind the counter. "What can I getchya?" "Two dozen spudnuts", I reply. Then came the choosing. Oh, such difficult decisions prior to coffee in the morning. From apple fritters, to glazed, to apricot filled, to Boston cream (YUM!), to coconut, to sourdough, to French crullers, and the list goes on & on. Did I neglect to say that all spudnuts are the same cost. Yeppers, there's no additional for the fancy-pants sprinkle donuts that I'm a sucker for. I had her load up the boxes & on to church choir for the real test. Hungary early morning musicians in need of a sugar-rush. Scene: Two very full boxes of Spudnuts sitting on the organ bench. In walk choir members. Eyes grow large. Smiles begin to form. "What is this?" they ask hopefully. "Just a little spudnut treat for this blustery morning", said I. Mmmm...and the smacking of lips is all I heard. Powdered sugar caked on fingers & lips. I think the spuds are a success! Open at 6am until 9pm this little shop offers more than just spudnuts, from custard to who knows what, if you leave unhappy and hungry, it is probably your own fault. read more

Great Donuts! To follow up on what a previous poster said, I appreciate the young woman asking if we knew what we wanted. Gives it the more hometown, regular feel. I can walk into any big box store and have someone ask if they can help me, but obviously I am in a donut shop for coffee and/or a donut. Used to be the best but continuous price increases over the last year have driven us away. Last increase within the last two weeks was up 25% for a standard donut, not the fancy ones which they seem to always be out of regardless of when you go. $1.25 per donut, sorry but you are gouging the public! read more

Just love their huge delicious donuts! One of the top five donut shops in the greater Cleveland area. Exceptionally unique flavor derived from their potato-based flour which seems to make them stay fresher longer than a typical doughnut. Great selection (amazing cinnamon rolls) with colorful choices. I have a love/hate relationship with doughnuts. I find they are nearly always one of the most amazing things ever, until I actually swallow them at which point I almost immediately begin to feel sick to my stomach. This tends to be a function of both the heavy pastry and the guilt, so I really only get doughnuts a couple of times a year. That may have to change, thanks to Spudnuts. I recently stopped in to pick up a couple dozen to ingratiate myself to/bribe a new set of co-workers and was surprised at how good the Spudnuts were. Apparently potato flour is a component of the dough which results in a lighter and less greasy texture. Regardless, they were exceptionally good doughnuts, and for the first time in a long time, I was able to live with myself after eating one (or, uh, three...). We used to live in Berea right down the street from Spudnut's and we never knew how good we had it. We moved about 30 minutes away and we can't find any place that comes even remotely close to their delicious doughnuts. PERFECT! I was looking to have a sweet treat delivered to a remote-working coworker and there were literally ZERO businesses in the 2-3mi radius that would... besides the flower shop of course. In my google local search I caught the eye of a donut shop so I looked them up and saw they had some amazingly delicious looking creations! I emailed them my request of deliverying a dozen to an apartment nearby and although it was after hours, I got an email back within 20 mins of my submission - AMAZING SERVICE! The email was from Rick saying either Don or himself would call me the next day - which they did! So exciting! I wasn't able to specify what donuts because the order was to be delivered the next day (as fresh as possible) but I did find both the total and the delivery charge to be VERY reasonable! Don was literally so lovely over the phone chatting about weather and making sure to get my phone number just in case something were to go sideways. My coworker will be so suprised! Coming from the Land of Indiana, it's hard for me to judge a donut without severe bias. (Because if you've never had Long's Donuts or Boyden's even, you need to plan a trip to Indianapolis yesterday.) Prices were pretty average and the staff was friendly. The donuts are HUGE and everyone was pleased with all the kinds we purchased. I like to base my donut judging off of glazed yeast donuts and custard with chocolate icing. The yeast donut was big and fluffy and delicious. It was my pick from the two! The chocolate iced custard one could use some work. It needs a bit more flavor and density, but it wasn't bad at all! The miscreant mutt and i ended up in the greater Berea vicinity this morning looking to have breakfast in the Metropark. I figured maybe a coffee shop/bistro would have some dainty croissants or something in downtown. No dice. Apparently in this bustling college town, no one wakes up before noon. So we wandered and a familiar name caught my eye. Spudnuts. I used to pass the one in Mentor every day. Gave it a go. The donuts are HUGE. Not the little two bites and you're done numbers from Dunkin Dollars or even Giant Falcon. Three of these put me down for the count until five in the afternoon. Crullers were airy and rich(can that be?), blueberry filled was gushing with vitamin rich fruit goodness, and the apple fritter(which my dog passed on,wtf) was the size of my head. They also had gas station cappuccino straight from the machine( i believe that machine was first conceived by cappuccin monks during the 16th century). Got a small. We ate in the park as everyone jogged by. My buck fifty frame swallowing donuts must piss off people who were sweating just to drop a couple lbs. All i was missing was a cigarette to look like a real a-hole. The actual establishment looks like an old construction trailer outfitted with diner stools. Very kitschy. Help was very nice. My husband and I decided to go by Spudnuts on a lark this morning, and we are very glad we did. Neither of us had any idea that such tasty treats could be made out of potato flour! We tried the apricot and the cookies-and-cream ones and we will most definitely be back to try others. The doughnuts were light and tasty without the sickly sweet, cloying taste we've found at most doughnut shops. They were also very reasonably priced, at $1 each, where most shops I've been to would charge significantly more for filled options. My only criticism is the same one I often have for cream-filled, chocolate covered doughnuts: they are sweet enough without the chocolate and I would gladly buy them more often if there was a non-chocolate-covered option, but that is a pretty standard thing about doughnut options and is not anything against Spudnuts! The girls at the counter were cordial and professional as well, and took a few extra minutes to talk some of their customers through their options, which was nice to see. At the same time there was enough of them so that despite the line, we got our doughnuts and paid quite quickly. read more

I have never been to Berea and have never had a Spudnut. But these guys get a definate 5 stars. When my dad was in college there was a Spudnut stand on campus. He STILL talks about those donuts. I called this location and asked for a dozen to be shipped to my father. They were nice, professional and courteous. They packed up the donuts (very nicely I hear) and went to the UPS store and shipped them for me. Dad got them today and was so excited. He said they are great. I've been waiting many years to eat a spudnut dounut and it was just as good as I remember, better even! The price of a donut is $1 and they carry dairymens milk (white and choc) While I was in Cleveland, I tried the raspberry donut, sprinkle donut, and maple pecan cream donut. The maple pecan was delicious! I usually don't like cream filled donuts, but it was definitely my fave out of the bunch I tried. So once in awhile I cheat and have some gluten and I love how fresh these donuts are! The price is reasonable and I'd say it's a good size. I'd rate it a five, but I've noticed that a few times we have gotten donuts there is a finger mark in the icing. Not something I'm really thrilled about seeing when I go to take a bite. RIPOFF! we've been loyal customers here for many years. every single weekend we made a trip there we haven't been going for the last 6 months or so until today however. the first thing I noticed was the boxes were completely different. when I looked in as I was paying the reason was obvious. the donuts are literally one third their former size and the taste was thick and flat. these used to be the best donuts anywhere and apparently profit motives took over. $12 a dozen and they're the size and taste of the donuts at the Get Go!
