This store has wonderful art treasures and I love stores that support local artists. Unfortunately the store owner is insolent. I work in a customer facing role and I would never treat my customers the way she did. The owner obviously only cares about making money and not representing local artists because there's been reviews to give the owner an opportunity of growth, but clearly no growth was had. I feel bad for the artists that lost sales because of her. I would not recommend this store from a customer experience OR an artist looking to collaborate. 5/5 stars for the Dina (the cat) though!

I would estimate that only about 10% of the inventory was antiques and many of these were bigger items like dressers. Several of the products I looked at were made by small businesses, such as the soaps and seasoning I bought. We came in December so the store had a lot of Christmas decor while we were there. I'd love to come back during another time of year to see what they have then as well!

I paid a quick visit after going to Mayer Bros - this place is right down the street crossing Transit road, and is so easy to spot! They've got a small parking lot beside the building. The Olde Steeple itself is absolutely gorgeous - it's an old church built in 1880, and at one point the building had been burned down almost entirely. Extensive renovations eventually brought the Olde Steeple back to life, giving it new purpose by way of becoming a lovely shop, where you can now find some of the cutest home decor, craft items, even teas and coffee! The small barn in the back was donated to the Olde Steeple in 2010, and houses a ton of cool antique furniture pieces. I thought this place would lean more toward being an antique shop, but I didn't find very many antiques here besides what could be found in the barn. (They're listed in Sunday Driver, which is an antique shop directory for NY, so had guessed they would've had more antiques to offer.) I would classify it more as a country store if anything, though one that leans a little more toward the expensive side. I also thought this place would have had more locally made products. They had some awesome homemade jams, but the tea I bought came from SC, and one of the little decor items I bought came from China. The doily I bought also appeared to be mass-produced. I also noticed a lot of 1803 Candles products, which is a company based out of IL. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but I would have looked more forward to spending what I did if they maybe had some Alpine Made stuff, or maybe some Amish linens and doilies? Maybe I got the wrong idea about what this place was supposed to be. But I will definitely visit again now that I know what sort of things they offer here. And by guys I mean, little plastic toys that my friend likes to call "whirly gigs." They have whirly gigs! They have whirly gigs! Are they even called that by anyone else? Do I care? All these questions and more will be answered - no, they won't. I absolutely adore this place! Their chocolate is delicious, homemade and cheap, and they sell the little whirly gigs out front in the summer! How adorable is that! :) The place is full of adorable animals and dolls and trinkets! Wow :) They have like, a different room for every type of thing they sell, and there are several rooms. Miniature stuff. Toys. Trinkets. And lots and lots of delicious chocolates. A whole room full of chocolates. Nom nom nom. If I didn't give this place a 5, I may as well call up an old people's home and check myself in, muttering about how we bailed out the Brits in World War II and that in my day, Frankie Valens was scandalous.

Tons of nostalgia throughout the store. The walls and the flooring are all original to the building. It was built in the late 1800s. The selection of gifts was very large. Homey type gifts, trinkets, women's purses and wallets, and lots of Buffalo themed gifts. The value of the gifts are moderately priced. If you are active duty or a veteran they offer a military discount. My wife and I will be back for sure!

I was a regular the 2+ years I lived in that location, picking up jewelry & shea butter and chatting with the super friendly owner. I just revisited it after several years away (I live in Black Rock - like anyone on Yelp doesn't know, har har, and don't get to EV much) and was excited to see that not only was it still there, it's flourishing. Ambiance/service - The store is in the back side corner of a non-descript brick building, sharing a small urban "strip mall" of sorts - with Elmwood Market (formerly DVD Dot), a laundromat and a nail place occupying the street-facing shops. It is small and has that market feel common to small, indie ethnic shops without being dingy, dirty or cramped (a la Manar's, now closed). The space is very clean and much better organized than when they first opened seven years ago. Products - The store focuses on traditional African and African-incluenced clothing and accessories, including jewelry, clothing, hats, home decor, instruments, beauty products (shea butter, black soap), scarves and even fabric to make clothes (sold by the 6 yard piece). On my most recent trip I bought a beautiful cream and aqua stone necklace with silver accents - it has a really quality heft and look, with excellent craftsmanship, and set me back less than $25; it was a small price to pay considering teeny bopper mall chain stores charge $12-20 for similar, less quality necklaces. The store also carries a small assortment of African foods and a variety of less traditional clothing that still fits with the shop's vibe. The store has expanded into the spot next to them, with this shop focusing on handbags and accessories. I did not pop in this side, though the owner offered to open it for me, but I took a long gander through the window and it looked clean, well-organized and full of goodies.
