Decent amount of cardio equipment but if you come during the busy times (after work, after 10am on the weekend) you might have a tough time getting anything. My favorite part is the cardio mezzanine which overlooks the gym floor. Each cardio machine has a TV with cable and even a channel devoted entirely to watching the playroom where kids can be babysat while their parents work up a sweat- made especially for overprotective mothers. The classes are decent- I used to love Sonia's Pilates class (you could almost never get a spot to put your mat) but I stopped going when she started talking more and teaching less. Also Buddy's Cardio Funk is a great laugh, fun way to work out. I have taken 2 spin classes- one with Sonia who is a drill sergeant and Merri who's a lot of fun but none of them match up to the teacher I had in DC (she made spin actually FUN, which is nearly impossible). For those of you who like protein shakes and the like- there's a small bar where they make your pleasure after your workout. Water and other drinks as well as granola and powerbars are sold at the front. All in all a 2.5 but I'll give em a 3. They certainly work hard enough for it. also make a point to thank Darren (I believe that's his name) he's the custodian. He's a doll and makes everything so clean with a smile on his face. He deserves recognition.

I suggested Pilates to a friend who was looking to increase flexibility, and we chose Body in Balance LI because it was close to work. Susan set us up with duet sessions so we can work out together, and she accommodates our different needs and skill levels (as a newcomer and long(ish)-time practitioner) almost seamlessly. Her instructions are easy to follow and her tactile feedback is immensely helpful. I recommend Body in Balance LI for both someone who's been practicing for a long time and someone newly interested in Pilates.

The bathroom is stocked with some great products although the 2 times I went they were empty. I know it's a newer studio but I did deduct one star because I think there is some room for improvement. I take a lot of heated classes and normally towels are provided for either the mat or a face towel to dry off. This studio doesn't offer any and your only option is to purchase one. In addition, after using equipment, normally there is a separate basket at the end of class to drop off your sweaty used items, however at this studio you just hang them right back up for the next person to use. I don't think that's the best option especially the ankle / hand weights that soak up all the sweat. Overall I really liked the class & can't wait to see the improvements as they grow!
