Parking is easy on the street. They're open Wednesday through Sunday, 4-11pm. Flat fee entry gets you credits all night. Pinball is still metered. But as long as they keep their pins running well I'll keep saving up quarters all year long just to bring them back to Springfield for family Christmas. Adults, the kids are alright. Kids, you're touching treasures. We like their shirts. They've got a print "Ugly Christmas Sweater" design right now that I just wish was actually in knit. Epic.

The employees were friendly as we entered the foyer and helped us select our seats; however, they then informed us that "because it's a free showing masks are required". I paused and considered this information. I walked away in frustration, but ended up going back to ask for clarification questions. I got confirmation that if I PAY for a ticket to watch a movie, I would have the freedom to not wear a mask, but when there's no MONEY involved, apparently the science changes and suddenly masks are required to save everyone's lives. I won't start a debate over the validity of masks on this review, that's not the point. The issue I have is that they "recommend" masks for paying customers and "require" masks for non-paying customers. I imagine they'd be hard pressed to explain the "science" behind that decision. Again... employees were pleasant; policies... not. I will never return.

I hadn't been to the new location until I came here for a movie this past weekend with some friends of mine, and I had such a good time, I think I could have sat and watched another one if time had permitted. I sat in for The Grand Budapest Hotel after watching previews for several films that I ACTIVELY WANTED TO SEE, as opposed to enduring a somewhat nonsensical thread of cinematic barf. An amazing aspect of The Moxie is its dedication to real, true businesses - right down to its concessions options. Gourmet chocolate bar with orange peel? Yup. Izze soda? Got it. Wine? Wait. Hold the phone. There's WINE here? I can have WINE with my excellently hip indie film? Someone snatch me up a blanket made of alpaca wool and let's do this thing! And the prices are refreshingly NOT blasphemous, as opposed to chain cinema concession stands. The new Moxie is somehow just the old Moxie on a different street - as in, it retained its upbeat, modern, blocked red-and-black scheme in the best possible way - with a few new art installations thrown in. The new auditoriums are even better, though. They're bigger yet cozier and the red seats (which are super comfy on your buns, by the way) remind you where you are even after you're away from the lobby. You're at The Moxie, and you're enjoying yourself. The staff seems great, too. The college-ish girl running the register at the front popped into the theater before our show began and gave a short little talk about another movie coming up, which was not insignificant in the sense that it really showed that this theatre is loved. As Ebert and Roeper would say (because they review movies and stuff, get it? Ha ha ha...): two thumbs up!

You would think they would say, "oh, you know you only have 20 minutes left to skate, right?" Nope. They'll take your money and blame you for the confusion. Then when you finally get out to skate, they clear the floor every couple of songs in order to play some stupid game that almost nobody wants to play. THEN they kick all the kids off the floor so that only adults can skate the last song that THEN opens the floor up for the next hour to ONLY adults. I swear, I have land, money, time and now desire to open up a skate park that is actually nice and doesn't have owners that are trying to fund their retirement and their grandkids retirement off the backs of their skaters, which really wouldn't be THAT bad if they offered a beautiful place to skate. I've only had this fire lit under me two other times in this life but I've accomplished my goals both of the other times and this time I am going to start tomorrow on working on this. I want this place out of business or completely reformed by the end of summer. They have become complacent by being the only place here in Springfield. I am going to change that. I also have started bringing my own skates. However, if you don't have your own, roller skates are included in your entry fee, but roller blades are an extra cost. They recently redid the rink during COVID, so the wood floors are nice and smooth now! They have arcade games, a mini cafe with snacks and concession foods. There are also lockers that you can rent for a quarter to put your shoes and keys in while you skate. It is definitely a mom and pop kinda feel, family owned and run. Pre COVID, there was one adult skate night where they handed out cupcakes for the owners birthday. Another time we showed up to skate for the last half hour and the lady at the front counter gave us a discount since there was only a little time left to skate. I don't ever expect this to happen again, but it was a kind gesture that you really only get with locally owned places. My one complaint is that they play the same 90s rap music during Adult Skate Night. I wish they would mix it up. However, I'm so glad there is a skate rink still open and operating in Springfield.

We came with our neighbors who come regularly. We got in line outside at 6:26 so that we could get a good spot in the yellow area for coffee up trucks. We brought pillows and blankets and I'm the back of the trucks, under the stars and beneath the light bugs, the world seems simple and not so complicated. Enjoyed the salute to America before the show started and the kids loved the playground while we were waiting for it to get dark. The snacks were reasonable - my fav is the $1.75 corn dog and the cherry vanilla Dr Pepper - yum. The first movie started at 8:57 and there were previews between the first and second movie. The overall experience was fabulous and I enjoyed the experience of "Top Gun maverick" at the drive in . I didn't miss the fancy theater chairs or supreme sound - outside in the fresh air was cozy for me and we will be back soon !
