Zalat Pizza - 18" Pho Shizzle

Zalat Pizza

Let me first start by saying I've been on a hunt for something other than cheese or veggie pizza…read more On account of switching to a healthier diet, every pizza I've ate had pork on it. When I came across Zalat and to my astonishment learned they have ALL BEEF pepperoni, I got super excited. Since trying Zalat, the amount of times i've eaten here since then is insane lol. No matter what size pizza you get, it's an even 8 slices -- now how big a slice is the kicker lol. Also, the Sirancha sauce is definitely a game changer. I waited until I tried the chicken and waffle mini pizza to right a "diverse" review lol. It too was pretty great for breakfast on the go. Not to mention the handwritten signs on each box. All in all, the pizza makers are all friendly and the establishment gives very homey vibes. I enjoy it every week when I come grab a slice lol

I'm very surprised this place has so many 5 star reviews. I guess Houston folk don't know what food…read morepizza is. Tastes slightly worse than Little Caesars. Bland, low quality crust, cheap canned tomato sauce (and barely any of it at that) and average mozzarella cheese at best. The only good thing is the all beef pepperoni. The girl working there with the short shorts just seemed annoyed to have to do her job. Chairs were all put up on the tables 2 hours prior to close l, so I couldn't even eat inside. Pretty terrible pizza overall. Not worth the 1 mile walk. Do not recommend.

Tony's New York Pizza II - cannoli

I'm from NY, and I've been here in Spring for 6 1/2 years. Tony's is the closest to the "real"…read morepizza I grew up with in Brooklyn, NY, the home of authentic pizza. I think it's the water in NY that makes the pizza there so good. I found that even acceptable pizza in NY is head and shoulders better than the pizza here in Houston. But then I found Tony's on Louetta, by far, the best pizza in Texas. My search is over, and I'm now happy.

Tony's New York Pizza II is a solid neighborhood pizza spot that met my expectations overall. The…read morecheese pizza actually tasted like something you'd find in New York, which I appreciated. Now full transparency, my husband is a New Yorker, and by his standards it was average for NY pizza. But judging by my Houston palate I thought it was good. The calzone was my favorite. Adding the optional ricotta made all the difference. It took it from a 4 to a 7. The only downside was the pepperoni. I could literally count the slices and wished there were more. That said, the bread texture was wonderful, and that same great texture carried over to the garlic knots, which I really enjoyed. I think trying meatball, or a supreme (heavier on the meat) version would be fantastic. When I go back I'll that and be sure to update. We also tried the chicken parm sub. It was okay, though my husband thought it was subpar. Personally, I think the tomato sauce did a lot of the heavy lifting flavor-wise. Surprisingly, I really liked the cannoli filling, which says a lot because I usually don't care for cannolis. They often don't taste like much to me, but this one did. The inside of the place is very quaint and mom-and-pop, which I loved. Service was great. I ordered to go, was told 20-25 minutes, and the food was ready in about half that time. All in all, this is a solid pizza place for locals, and I'd absolutely come back to try more items on the menu. I want to try the original place and see if it's better. I mean, it should taste the same right? (Will update when I find this out).
