I am a 66 year old lady that likes to shoot a pistol. I started practicing there on a regular basis about 3 years ago. They have always been very friendly and helpful. I was a complete novice! They have helped me all along the way, and I can now shoot so well that many people around me always comment how well I shoot. It is a hobby for me, and I love being able to do it well. The employees have all become my friends, love to see me come in, and are always helpful. I go first thing in the morning and never have to wait. My Wife and I recently took our CHL courses at SG&A and we've used their range a number of times. I've also purchased from them as well. All in all, they are a very good place to do business. The staff have always been very friendly and knowledgeable. They also have a decent inventory to select from. On another note, I alerted them about a security issue related to their website. They were unaware of the issue and as I have just checked out their site again, the issue has been resolved. Very responsive to customer concerns. Ignore the really bad reviews of these guys posted here. They expect you to follow their well posted rules. They are very safety conscious. read more

Awesome range and firearms dealer. We were able to "rent" and shoot several different pistols before we purchased our weapon of choice today. The staff was super helpful and very knowledgeable. The range seemed really busy but there was still plenty of room. They offered a great try before you buy option on a couple of pistols we were interested in. Went there for the first time last weekend (5/17/14). Bought the groupon deal for 2. Since my friend is familiar with guns, that's probably why no one came over to ask us if we needed any help and how to handle the gun. Overall I had a good time handling the gun and shooting it. We exchanged for another set of guns to get the feel of it and the staff was very helpful. We didn't have to wait for the lanes since we came early. Before we left, I bought my first gun - The sig sauer P226. Will come back again. Tip is to come early before noon. read more

I was one of the original customers to this shop. Back when flowers worked there and it was small and personable. You could walk in and talk to the guys and feel welcome. They knew me by name and greeted everyone when they walked in the door. I spent a lot of money there in the beginning. Then they built the new facility and things went to hell. No longer can you go in and get personable service. They have a bunch of kids working there and you couldn't get help if your hair was on fire. I honestly have been there a dozen times with cash in my pocket ready to buy something and have walked out pissed. I've even caught the owner once or twice and told him personally and he didn't seem to mind not having that revenue. I think things have just gotten too big and he's lost sight of what matters. None of my friends will go there anymore and sadly neither will I. When a kid behind the counter just turns and walks away from you as your trying to buy a big ticket item, something is wrong. I'm sure they will thrive with the indoor range but they'll do so without my money. read more

While the staff is great, friendly and courteous I cannot say the same for the instructor of the LTC class. I have trained at multiple military installations and Black Water and know how to use a multitude of weapons and safety protocol. This was a bad experience in which everyone on the firing line had a look of confusion on their face due to the lack of clear instruction. This made me extremely nervous. He had zero range control. People were walking back and forth to their weapon after firing down range was completed. He was speaking to a woman from the other side of the range during a cease fire while everyone was against the wall. She heard something he didn't say and immediately walked over to her weapon and fired another five rounds. Mind you, everyone had their ears on. Poor woman couldn't hear. He should of walked across closer to her and spoke. And I wasn't impressed with the way he spoke to her afterwards. There was an issue with the shot count on one round of firing in which he called four shots when he clearly stated he was going to call five. Then he had the nerve to act as if I were the dumb ones not paying attention. He just confused the hell out of me (and I wasn't the only one) and I didn't take to kind to his body language or the way he spoke to people. Unfortunately, I got frustrated because he couldn't communicate or safely control the range so I left and asked for my money back. They gave me a refund and the manager was extremely apologetic. I'm not the type of person to let one person dictate my opinion about an entire organization and I don't think this place conducts business in a bad manner. I just think this guy wasn't the right person for the job. Its enough for me never to do business there again or recommend it to anyone else. read more

A friend told me that Spring Guns & Ammo gave gun appraisals so I took mine in (Colt 44 Magnum Anaconda - missing retainer pin). When I got there, I asked for an appraisal & the guy said "how much are you wanting for it?". I said I wanted an appraisal. And then again, "how much were you expecting". I told him $1,200 (based on an offer I had received). He took it back to another guy & then came out & said it was useless....NOT!!! He said it couldn't even be fired w/o the chamber pin....LIE!!! It HAS been fired! Basically my point here is that they lure you in saying they will give you an appraisal, only to try to buy your gun for a ridiculously low price. Hoping you will be desparate & they will come out winners! Well, screw them. I will be sure & tell all my gun owner friends (A VERY LG AMT.) NOT TO GO THERE & will also spread the word on FB. Disappointed. Once again, an NFA dealer that doesn't want to make a sale apparently. I'd been to SGA several times and always had a good time, but not this time. Last weekend my bro in law was in town w/ his gun trust burning a hole in his pocket. We decided to go suppressor shopping. He was looking for a Halo or other type of can that will use the A2 flash hider mount. Guy behind the counter was finishing up with a couple and started off friendly. He asked if he could help us. "Yes sir, my friend here is looking for a Halo" I replied. He acted like we were searching for the holy grail. "OOHHH, we're about a 4 month wait on Gemtech." Ok. I asked if they had another type that would take an A2 mount. He said "we have the sanstorm, it's a regular mount" (thread on) which he took out and showed us. He was of average courtesy level, but apparently he did not care about what we were really shopping for. My bro in law asked how much it would cost if they ordered it for him. Now this is part that really p****ed me off: He said, "I would have to look it up." La dee freakin' dah!! Can you be less lazy and do that? Apparently not since he didn't and did not offer to. When asked for an approximate he said, " about $1100." as he stapled the previous couple's paperwork and headed off to do whatever. I said thank you and we left. What a bunch of crap! 1st of all, if you don't feel like helping me, don't talk to me. That's fine with me. 2ndly: If you don't really know something about your industry, don't pretend you do, and make up fantasy prices for stuff. Gemtech Halo is $750 max + transfer fee EVERYWHERE. And as competetive as the suppressor market has become, I cannot believe that Gemtech is any harder to find than any other suppressor brand. 3rd: If i ask to see something and you don't have it, just say you don't have it. Don't bother trying to sell me something else that i don't want, and especially that i did not ask for. I don't mind the attempt at selling me something if you bother to explain why your brand is better than what I was looking for. I don't much care for the "this is what we sell, take it or leave it" attitude. i don't understand this mentality of doing business. I find it all over the NFA sales world. It seems that nobody in that industry cares about customer service. Many give the impression they are just professional a-holes who got into this business to get cool toys for themselves and their friends. We called Mack Burkhead, NFA dealer in Houston. He doesn't stock much, so he has to order it for you, however: Mack is a down to earth guy, extremely helpful and personable. He is a gun enthusiast like us regular folk and doesn't come off with the BS attitude that many NFA dealers around have. If you are in the Houston area and need a class III item, please call him and disregard these storefronts that don't care who you are and what you are spending. I ordered a Ruger Mark IV pistol, they said they would call when it came in. Well it came in while I was out of town hunting on a Thursday. So Spring Guns and Ammo said we can hold it for only one day? I get back in town on Monday and they sold it. They would have never had it in stock if I didn`t order it. She said your Mark 400 was in, it`s called a Mark IV (four). Anyway, I will pick one up at Tomball Pawn. It came in the same day and they are holding it for me. read more

selfish, disrespectful people. One day shooting AK on rifle range with steel casings. As i was reloading, some guy, just comes up and pick up my clip and says i can shoot these here. Did not identify himself as employee or anything. Once i realized he worked there, i asked why? Could not answer. Didnt know why, just that it was a rule. I later found out its because they can sell my casings to a reloader or for scrap. Utter BS. read more

They're just in it for themselves and don't mind screwing anyone in the process of making a sale. This is enough to make me stop going in there. I (we) also used a 1 person Groupon coupon $25 for $50 value. It is only good for a 9mm Pistol, which is quite powerful for beginners or females. The staff were not the friendliest nor the most helpful. We did not see any range supervisors, so we asked another customer/shooter to help us get started. Thanks to the stranger who loaded and armed our 9mm Glock (I think). So the two of us shot a box of 50 rounds in one lane. We took turns shooting off a 10 round magazine and we both had a Blast. The coupon deal included 50 rounds of Ammo, which we fired off in 30 minutes. For beginners, they offer lessons for $35. I highly recommend viewing a couple of YouTube videos for tips on how to load and shoot a pistol. SAFETY FIRST. read more

First time to use the Range at Spring Guns and Ammo. Took my Navy Sr. Chief son, grandson and granddaughter for the grand kids first shooting experience. I was very impressed with the staff, the range and their pricing. We all enjoyed our two hour visit. This place is definitely worth the drive from Houston. Not only do they have much better prices, the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I had a friend come into town who wanted to go shooting. While I've gone shooting before, I did not feel comfortable enough with a gun to teach him. We both had a 30 minute lesson with Jim, who was a huge help. He helped me improve my shot, and he even came back to check on us after the lesson was over. I have been through several CHL classes and Chuck is the man. He brings his experience, knowledge and curriculum to make a 4 hour class seem like 30 min. He has great background of how to handle your weapon and his experiences on how he has handled his. I highly recommend SPA and Chuck either as a first time class or as a refreser.. excellent experience videos and knowledge with a touch of humor. Take your class with Chuck at SPA. I was able to convince my fiancé that i could buy a gun. I wanted to introduce her to firearms by taking her to a local business hoping that they would help make her comfortable. when we arrived we where welcomed very unprofessionally by the two young women at the shooting range side. they where playing their "todays popular hits" music on there phone they where also dancing and one woman seemed she had no idea what was going on because she kept asking the other girl for info. they did not do a good job by helping my fiancé comfortable. we rented 1 firearm to share that we had zero help on a recommendation. they just gave us one. they did not get a break down of rules or anything. please note we are new to owning a firearm and we both made it very clear that we are new and also willing to learn. for the first time user i would not recommend this place. on the way home we went to Gander mountain and they made her feel SUPER comfortable they gave us a tour of the place. asked us what our goals where and yes they where a lot more expensive but I'm willing to pay more for the comfortably professionalism. read more

This place is amazing. I have been practically begging them to sale me between 3 & 4 thousand dollars in gun and upgrades I cant even get a return phone call. Three calls today for sales associate Aaron who said he'd call back upon the first call at 1:00 same at three. He never called me back. No email, nothing. So I called at five and ask to speak with owner C. David Rhodes. Who had said that I should contact him directly if I had any problems. I called and ask for him and was then told that he does not take calls. Wow a dealer not interested in new customers. I wonder how they will feel after the rush is over. I will not trouble them again. Sooner or later this type of thing will catch up with them. I will not miss an opportunity to share my experience. The shame is they wasted two weeks of my time. The guy that owns the shop gave me two free range passes. I'll give them to the guy who recommended this place next time I see him. As for me I will not darken their doorway with my shadow ever again. read more
