It's a solid gun range with a variety of guns for rental limited stuff in stock and very good service at the front desk. I would definitely give them that my only complaints where they shoot automatic weapons right next to where like you're firing, pistols and other semi automatic weapons so the noise is a little bit loud, but don't let that stop you from going. It's very comfortable. The people are very knowledgeable and very kind. On Sunday, August 9th, 2026, I walked into Top Gun to meet some friends and relatives to shoot, and I approached a young, alternative-looking woman who seemed to be a new hire because I hadn't met them before at the store counter, which negatively affected my perception of this gun range. In our brief interaction, this young woman came across as unapproachable, rude, and smug. I wanted to leave and not give this store any money, but I made an appointment with my people, and they were already in a few lanes. Came here with some friends during a rifle marketing event in which they were offering free range time with their showcased rifles. We used the opportunity to become more familiar with rifles since most of us had only shot a handgun prior. The staff and vendors were welcoming and it was an easy process registering for the range as a first time customer. They had plenty of eye and ear protection included for free and a good selection of targets, ammo, and rental pistols. The range itself seemed pretty standard in my experience with indoor ranges, so no complaints there. While I like the central location of this range, I think my only hesitancy of coming back here is the parking. I mean it is a very small lot to begin with and only half the spots are available to Top Gun because they share it with another business. We got there shortly after opening and it was already full by then. We were forced to park way down the street because street parking is limited as well. Multiple times while we were there, the staff were calling out vehicles that had parked in a non-Top Gun space for removal before they would get towed. I just feel a business of this size needs more guaranteed parking. To note, the range wasn't even that packed inside when we first got there because again we got there shortly after opening, so I can only imagine how frustrating the parking situation will be during peak hours. Otherwise, I recommend this place if you are looking for a decent range in Houston. They also sell all your firearm needs and my friend actually bought a handgun while we were there. One month ago, I had never shot a gun. I hate guns but I like knowing things. Asked my son to take me and he brought me here because he likes Top Gun the most and thought I would be comfortable. I was very nervous. The waiver process is easy. The staff was nice and did not condescend or make me feel foolish as they walked me through basics and helped me decide what gun to rent. They had a LOT of guns of different types and sizes. Followed my son to our lane on the range where we took turns shooting. I was nervous but even so it was hot back there whew. The shooting part was obviously a new experience. All in all that first visit (2 people with 2 different guns plus ammo for what felt like a really long time to me) totaled around $120. I still hate guns but I like knowing things so I have returned to Top Gun by myself for a few lessons. I hate guns, but some skills feeling more practical since January. Never stop learning and all that. The place has courses, clubs/events and good instructors. The place definitely has traffic on weekend days but I have never waited more than a few minutes for a lane. I couldn't describe the crowd other than to say a mix of every type you can imagine - no stereotype obvious to me. On three of my four visits, each of which includes sitting to sign a waiver, international tourists have been in the next chair ("form says we can use hotel address - do I need my passport number?"): heavy French accent, UK accent and (Castilian) Spanish. This last time was my 4th visit and I overheard voices speaking an Asian language. Houston is awesome like that. Anyway, I have never visited any other gun range so can't compare but Top Gun suits me well enough. read more

My police officer cousin gifted me a shotgun so we came here to break it in along with a bunch of other firearms we owned between us. This is one of the more popular spots in the middle of Houston and I always have a great time here. You can bring your own firearms or rent one of theirs. I believe if you rent one of theirs, you have to buy their ammo as well. We brought our guns and ammo. Just sign the waivers, pick a target and wait your turn to go shoot. There are 15, 50 foot long lanes here. Motorized targets are available which is always working great when I am there. They monitor all people on the lanes and will correct any unsafe practices. One rule to remember if you bring a shotgun is that you can only use buckshot or slugs only. I've been to a few outdoor and indoor ranges in town and Top Gun is one of my favorites. It is conveniently located in the middle of Houston and easy to get to. I will definitely be back! read more

When our out-of-state family visited, they had one request-- shoot like a Texan. And they had a blast at Top Gun! They have 1 hour gun rentals or you can bring your own guns and buy the ammo on site to shoot. For newbies, there are short 15 minute classes to learn guns safety, how to load guns, etc. Our instructor, Rene, did a fantastic job teaching us and was enthusiastic and informative. He made our experience fun! After our class, we were assigned a lane to shoot. Rene stayed by our side to ensure we could properly and safely handle the gun before letting us go at it independently. They provide different target templates and have motorized targets to allow you to adjust the distance. Although they provide stiff ear muffs for hearing protection, I'm definitely bringing ear plugs to wear under them next time-- the guns are loud, especially the big ones! There's an observation area to watch away from most of the noise and a lobby area with couches and arcade games if you need a break from the intensity. While Top Gun Range and other related services might be admirable, their employees must improve their customer service skills. They need to learn how to quote prices regarding their licensed gunsmiths. I was told they could install a tactical trigger and provided a reputable website. This was followed by stating we installed this tactical trigger for only 10 dollars plus tax. I agreed and had Top Gun Range install this trigger, but they charged me $50 in tax. I'm now questioning your business integrity. I posted this on/or about February 1, 2024, and the TOP GUN asked me to email him (GM) to discuss this matter. I emailed this GM over 10 times without a response, so I called, and this GM never took or returned my calls, proving this GM doesn't have professionalism or integrity. I even filed a Better Business Bureau "BBB" which the TOP GUN GM chose to ignore conveniently. read more

I am not a gun person. Never touched one never seen one in person. But my sister insisted I learn how to shoot given we live in Texas so she signed my husband, mom and me up. Our instructor is Cody. And this guy is like the Aristotle of Guns. I came as a newbie and left being able to hit about a millimeter from target. I feel so confident and a bad ass. What makes Cody different is that he teaches you the science of shooting so you're able to fix your mistake when you shoot off target. He is smart and is able to explain shooting concepts so that a 5-year old can understand. He is also very funny during the lesson which makes it entertaining and he has a zen aura about him. Dude is so friggin cool in so many ways. We plan on taking more classes with him. read more

The facility is first rate, but the counter help yesterday was the worst I have experienced there. My friend, who is from France, was asked to demonstrate that he could check to see if the firearm was unloaded. He has previously shot semiautomatic pistols and demonstrated that he knew the requirements by removing the magazine, attempting pull the slide back and being aware of the muzzle direction. For whatever reason, he was having trouble pulling the slide back and said he wasn't sure how this pistol worked. The employee took the gun back and said they all worked the same way and asked me to demonstrate. After successfully demonstrating the safety check, he scolded us both and said do it this way apparently unaware or uncaring that I am left handed and I manipulate a pistol differently because of it. Later, on the firing line, when my friend asked about the status of the full auto rifle he was shooting, the employee said, "I don't know, you tell me." The whole interaction does a disservice to the business, the sport and safety. Many of us come to shoot guns that we would like to purchase having possibly never held this particular firearm before. The experience would have been much better if the employee had said, "I see you have the right idea, the recoil spring on this gun is a little heavier. Give it a harder pull." Or, "this doesn't slide lock on safe like a 1911." Or, "If you turn the gun to the other side and look here you can see the condition of the gun" In the past, I have had good experiences at Top Gun, but it only takes one guy with "operator syndrome" to completely sour me. read more

Top Gun lost me as a regular longtime customer. Attitude of staff is not good (Except for the manager, he was nice). My truck got broken into while I was shooting. In the aftermath of it, I said to one of Top Gun's employees "I saw a post online about this happening to someone else, and now it happened to me. It's making me feel like I'm not sure I want to keep coming back". The employee's response was "Well, at least you were warned" and it was said with a bad attitude. Then he just walked away. He should have offered me reassurance and been polite and I would have considered remaining a regular customer. I have been going to Top Gun on and off most of my life. But seeing as I got bad attitude about my truck getting broken into on their property, I will not be returning. Ever. Gun ranges are supposed to be places of professionalism, where you feel safe. I would have given Top Gun a better review if it wasn't for the instructor (Jared?). Not sure if it was a racial thing or if he's just a miserable person in general but he spoke to us with such disrespect. We told him that it's our first time shooting guns and he keeps getting impatient and frustrated. Being from a super liberal place like NYC, we aren't used to shooting guns. We have loud guns going off around us and we're not used to it so it's obviously going to take some time. In the end, we were able to get the hang of it. He told me to "hold the gun like a man" otherwise it will fly out of my hand. Guess what, big boy? It didn't and I was able to hit my targets. Hopefully he can man up and take some criticism. Top Gun should train him better because he obviously lacks people skills. I will say that the other guy that helped us with the AR-15 was much nicer and professional. They was water puddles and buckets along side the entirety of the shooting range. Wood / bench was deteriorating a caused major concerns when it was not stable. I've been shooting here once before, it was a standard experience-costs average, lanes average. Super busy on the weekends. Where this place truly earns its five stars is the classes they offer and the staff they employ. On May 31st I took a Build, Shoot, Take-home rifle building class and it was one of the coolest experiences I've had in the past year or so. The instructor, John, was incredibly knowledgeable in firearms and the class went flawlessly. John went above and beyond when he offered to show me a few pointers in the gun lanes after the class after I asked him about some of my shooting mistakes. This effort by him was well above the call of duty and I was incredibly grateful for his extra instruction. He even fixed a drift on my front sights of my Glock43x. My experience with my instructor and the build class truly set this range in a league different than its competitors and I will be making this my home range and LGS from now on. Overall, Top Gun Range is the best indoor gun range in Houston that I have been to. I took my CHL class here with Cody -- great instructor, by the way -- and have been shooting here off and on for fifteen years or more. FYI, wear BOTH earplugs and earmuffs, preferably with 30+ NRR each, as this range permits indoor rifle/shotgun shooting. One layer of hearing protection is insufficient, as sound is trapped indoors and becomes effectively much louder. The popular hearing protection muffs you see people wearing outdoors in YT videos usually give NRR in the 20s, which is inadequate for an indoor range where rifles are shot with or without additional earplugs. Yeah, the big ones will mess with your cheek weld, but it's worth the annoyance. (Don't get no-name hearing protection off of Amazon, either, as there is no oversight and frequently their NRR numbers are just plain fabricated.) read more

Yesterday was my birthday and ladies day and also my boyfriends birthday. Some guy made it is mission to come find me after 30-45 minutes I had already rented guns paid been on the range over 20 minutes with the gun being instructed on how to safety use it to say oh your shooting actually I heard you and your friend talk about drinking you can't shoot. Only singled me out birthday girl and didn't bother anyone else though in our whole party. First time in Huston and it was a horrible experience at this place. AND I WASN'T DRUNK!!!! Clearly the man at the counter didn't think so when he let us rent machine guns, and hand guns. Terrible customer service and that man with a obvious superiority complex was an IDIOT! read more

I think this range is ok for an indoor and the staff is nice and attentive, that being said I think it's only good for a range and that's all. I took my upper to be assembled here and was quoted 35-50$ and not a big deal but after it was assembled it came out to 50$, again not a big deal I figure that pretty standard. The problem is when I took my upper to the range and fired it the gas block walked on me. It wasn't properly torqued down. I went back and they "fixed it" but said I should get my barrel dimpled because it's a set screw gas block and that would cost about 50-100$ to get a barrel dimpled. So I said ok and went on my way, at this point I was frustrated having driven out twice for it to be done improperly and then being told I have to pay more for something they should've told me they can't do. So now I'm out 50$ and I have to get it dimpled so it won't walk and because it was torqued down improperly in the first place. I then took it to a local shop near me and they charged me 50$ to do everything as in they took it apart and found out that when it was assembled they hadn't used any type of lube/sealant on the barrel nut, they improperly torqued my set screws TWICE, snd my muzzle device was crooked and not timed correctly. Long story short, decent range, nice people, shoddy work at best. read more

Tried to use them as a FFL for an online purchase I made on 11-15-2022 from a popular reputable firearms online retailer. After my purchase online I followed Top Gun's FFL Transfer instructions online through thier website by filling out FFL Transfer notification with my order information to send to Top Gun. It stated on Top Gun website to wait until they call to come pick up your item/FFL Transfer. So I waited, checked my voicemail and email, still nothing. Tracking showed item recieved by Top Gun on 11-21-2022. Finally I called them on Saturday, 12-03-2022. I explained my situation, the person on the phone stated I need to speak with Phil, but he would not be in until the weekday. I was like ok, so I waited to call back on a weekday (strike 1). Called on, Monday, 12-05-2022, asked for Phil. Person stated he is not in until tommorow. I explained my situation, person asked for my name, I gave that person my name, person responded your order has been ready to pick up for several weeks. I responded I was never notified and I stated per your website it stated do not come and pick up firearm/FFL Transfer until notified. Person responded do you have LTC, I stated, yes, he stated come in anytime your item is ready for pick up. It was getting late so I decide to come in to Top Gun to pick up my firearm/FFL Transfer the next day on 12-06-2022. Came in after work on 12-06-2022 to Top Gun, walked to the counter and stated, I am here for pick up and gave them my name, they checked the system, the person at counter stated did you get notified to come in to pick up your firearm/FFL Transfer (strike 2). I responded I was never notified, but I spoke with someone yesterday and they stated to come in and pick it up, so here I am. Took them a while to find my firearm, filled out some paperwork, waited some and finally got my firearm. I do not know if they thought my Texas LTC was fake, but I think they ran a background check on me still (strike 3), as I still had to wait for something to clear. Ohh, I forgot they stated the online retailer had the wrong information/phone number on the order slip and thats why I was never called/notifed. I checked the order slip and it had the correct information, online retailer put the correct phone number (and your Out). So recap, item received by Top Gun on 11-21-2022 picked up on 12-06-2022. Way to long for pick up. I do not think they would have called if I did not call them and just showed up to grab my FFL Transfer. No big deal, just one less customer for them for cash flow and word of mouth advertising. Note: 1. My purchase was from BudsGunShop.com, no issues with them, but I will not be using Top Gun as a FFL after this experience. 2. I have used other FFL's and they are pretty quick and also give notification to come grab your Firearm when it is ready. read more
