I wish SC were closer. The food here so good. I tried the mushroom bao and couldn't believe how good it was. The steamed fluffy bun paired really nicely with the crunchy-ish king oyster mushrooms and the sauce. It was messy to eat but worth every piece of clothing I stained. I can't wait to try the braised tofu skin next time. I also ordered the Zhajiang noodle salad which was just as tasty. It reminded me of a dan dan noodle. It says spicy but I didn't find it to be. I love how much vegetable is in the dish. There is a balanced ratio of vegetable to noodle and you can control how much sauce to pour in. Maybe it's a good thing I don't live nearby because I would be there all the time. SC would be good for meat eaters looking to incorporate more plant based foods in their diet. Came to this place on a whim and am SO glad I found it. The food is absolutely incredible and I find myself craving their bento boxes all the time. The shop is small but has a good amount of seating. I have been itching to try this spot in Chinatown for a while now because of their unique vegan offerings that put a healthy spin on traditional Chinese and American dishes such as vegan baos, burgers, and salads. I came right before closing time and was served very quickly! I was very curious about the Zhajiang Noodle Salad they have with vegan tofu/pork. I grew up eating Zhajiang noodles and I love this dish so much, but I have never tried a vegan version. I asked them if they could substitute noodles for papaya since I was torn between trying this one or their Beyond Papaya Salad (I'm a huge fan of papaya salad too) and they said yes! Staff is super kind and accommodating. This dish blew my mind and exceeded my expectations. It tastes like a healthy version of my favorite comfort food. Even though there is no real pork that one would expect from a Zhajiang dish, the mock meat with tofu was exceptionally flavorful and almost tasted like the real deal. The sauce paired with their chili oil brought the entire bowl together. Since I swapped noodles for papaya, everything was so refreshing and perfect for a light and nutritious meal. The vegetables all tasted very fresh. I literally couldn't stop eating it once I started. Easily the best salad I've ever had. It was $13 for quite a generous portion of food and honestly this is one of the best deals I've found for vegan/healthy food that has an Asian twist on it. I would 10000% come back to try their other dishes such as their baos and burgers. I already know I'm going to continue to crave this Zhajiang salad for a while. Unassuming store front on Canal St and Centre St, but delicious food awaiting inside! I highly recommend the braised tofu skin on literally anything, but especially the bao buns. The tofu skin is firm but not tough, chewy but not rubbery, sweet and salty similar to char siu sauce. The bai came with pickled mustard greens which provide just the right amount of acidity and crunch. Lovely! I've had buns from other places that are half filled, mostly just dough, but these were filled fully! Two will satisfy you, three will definitely fill you up! Also note the bun is a little denser than a freshly steamed bun, but still good. The vegan BBQ is similar to the one from Buddha Bodai, which I also highly recommend for vegan dim sum. :) All in all a great quick lunch! read more

I went there 3 different times when I was in Chinatown. The first time I had ordered the Crispy Portobello Burger. So much better than Shake Shack. I had the combo with hibiscus tea and that was a great complement with the seasoned fries. The burger itself felt like it was meatier. They are super affordable and are HUGE. $3 for one and then only $5.50 for two?! You can't go wrong. I got the braised tofu skin and vegan ginger chicken bao buns. The quality despite them being so cheap is phenomenal. The ginger chicken tasted like your traditional ginger chicken, and all the flavors in and out of that braised tofu skin speaks louder than words. The sauce and the peanuts on top made that bao. I'm always very skeptical when it comes to vegan spots. I always passed by Spring Cafe on my way to work and noticed that it was a lot cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing than the last vendor. One of my friends recommended that I stop by because of the great lunch special deal. Their menu is relatively small and consists of mainly burgers or sandwiches. I got the Hawaiian vegan "chicken" burger with fries and a slightly sweetened hibiscus iced tea. The hibiscus tea was really refreshing on a humid day. The burger was pretty good as well. It was a fried vegan "chicken" patty on top of lettuce, tomatoes, pineapple slice and chipotle aioli. I was pretty impressed at how much it tasted like meat. I'm not usually into vegan dishes that use meat replacements but this was was pretty good. However, my favorite was the fries! It was super crispy and flavorful. One issue that I had was that most dishes they had included some sort of meat replacement. I really wish they had more veggie featured dishes. I'm not a big fan of meat replacement because I always feel extremely parched after eating. Another thing I didn't like was that everything on the menu was pretty much either fried or really greasy.
