Food is very good. The items prepared are very close to italian country cooking. It's not high cuisine, but from-scratch cuisine.

We walk to Millvale from Bloomfield quite often and one of our treats is to stop at Sprezzatura. If you want real Italian comfort food, this is the place. Everything is prepared with love and passion. This is a restaurant that I suggest to out of town guests; especially those coming into Pittsburgh for the first time. I think their menu is a great representation of the area. My absolute favorite menu item is the caprese burger. Melt in your mouth delish. Big enough to share. They have a cafe in the middle of Millvale, and they do a lot of catering. They share a training kitchen with 412 Food Rescue, which is an amazing non-profit with an important mission. The owner's family is from Abruzzo, a region in Italy where many Pittsburgh Italian families are from. The owner is also passionate about feeding people and loves her job. Right now she is feeding a lot of elderly, and also front-line Covid 19 workers. She has a huge heart. The food is down home Italian and Mediterranean. The portions are big and everything is delicious. The staff is very friendly, you feel like family here. read more

This is kind of unusual for me, since I know this place as a vendor at a local farmer's market. When I looked for the physical location, I couldn't find it under restaurants. It is listed under Event Planning & Services, which I can't fully wrap my head around. I know from a small amount of research that they have a brick and mortar location. They list themselves as a caterer 1st and a restaurant 2nd, which has limited days and hours of operation, Thursday - Saturday 5 - 9pm. From the farmer's market, I've sampled a few things. Recently, I tried their onion tart, although I was a little confused by it. I was quotes prices of $15 and $17, but their website lists the tart as $10. I could be off on the pricing, since there could be different sizes, but they all look the same to me. I had this as a breakfast option, since it is described as an egg, cheese and onion pie. Frankly, I found it to be rather bland, and thought it could have used some basic seasoning, like salt and pepper. I had to add these at the table to extract any enjoyment from this dish. I still want to try some of their soups, but so far, I haven't been impressed. My son tried their lasagne and voiced a limp 'good' when asked about it. I tend to get more when he really enjoys something, but his response was kind of bland. I tried their pork meatballs with pine nuts and found it kind of interesting. That being said, I wouldn't go out of my way for these. I thought the meat was kind of dry and again, the flavor somewhat bland. In my opinion, this is not a place I would go out of my way to visit. They seem to be more focused on certain buzz words than actual flavor. Their site boasts of solar power, sustainability and clean energy. While these are certainly worthwhile and notable, the focus should be on the food, which seems to not be where the emphasis is placed. If climate change is a subject near and dear to you, this place might be worth visiting. If you are looking for flavor, I would recommend some far better options. It lists as catered food, and the flavor reflects that. This is elevated cafeteria food, and nothing more. read more

Millvale's new "hidden gem" is the latest in made from scratch Italian cooking. Sprezzatura has been and still is a Mediterrean catering business. They now have expanded by opening a cafe in the Millvale food and energy hub. During my visit I got an opportunity to meet with the owner Jen S. who explained the concept to me. Most of their food options are locally sourced and made sustainably from the heart. The kitchen is shared with 412 Rescue which has a culinary program there. They are also planning to host various events in the coming year. Leaflets are on the table if you want to know more. The is the 6th day since the cafe has opened to the public and it is becoming quite popular. The menu is small but portion sizes are huge and prices very reasonable. I did inquire about gluten free and vegan options. You get can gluten free in the sides and desserts and a couple of the salads are vegan. When you enter, you order off the chalkboard and yes, they will accommodate you if you have a smaller appetite as was my case. I decided to go with the butternut squash soup and a small size spaghetti and meatballs. You are given a number and can sit anywhere. Beverages are limited to pop, hot tea, and coffee. Water bottles are available to take to your table. Both cash and cards are accepted. Place is also BYOB. I took a seat and waited for my lunch. The soup was served piping hot and you could taste the homemade richness of the squash. I really enjoyed it. Then I got my small size spaghetti and meatballs along with a piece of bread. The spaghetti was cooked just right and you can really taste the homemade sauce and well prepared meatballs that went into making this entree so enjoyable. They have a separate area to dispose of your used items. Take out is also available. Since Jen had told me their biscotti was made from scratch I decided to try one of them for dessert. It was a descent size and believe me it did not disappoint. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful in making me feel right at home. The cafe itself has that homey feel to it when you look around. This place is the real deal when it comes to Italian cooking. The business name loosely translated means "looking calm while obsessing over details." I definitely enjoyed dining here and can't wait to return to try out their other offerings. Menu is expected to change seasonally. Currently they are serving lunch and dinner from Wed-Sat only. They still do catering and you can obtain a catering leaflet where you order. Sprezzatura provided catering for a birthday party this weekend. The food and service was exceptional!! I heard guest agree many times that the stuffed shells were some of the best that they ever had. The lemony chickpea salad was also a huge hit. I quote one birthday celebrant as saying "I would never have ordered lemony chickpeas, but after having them can't wait to go back for another round." We had this food at a catered event and were impressed! As someone with a Dietitian background I thought the food was particularly healthful and nutritionally balanced with the perfect amount of olive oil added for flavor. The Apple Cider was warm and comforting and hit the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness. I loved the appetizers they give you which include platters of 2 flavors of toasted baguettes, Artichoke Hearts, Grape-leaves, Olives, Soft Cheeses mixed with dried fruits and pomegranate, and various other wholesome health foods. I also loved the way they cooked the Brussels Sprouts and Potatoes and felt they went wonderfully together and had a nice soft texture and kept the naturally delicate flavors of those vegetables without any bitterness. I loved that they had a bean salad with chickpeas and kidney beans as this was a nice protein option that was vegan and most Americans need to include more legumes like these into their daily diet. Like the other foods the oil that was added was the perfect amount to add. The cookie platter also not only had different cookies but different KINDs of cookies which helps provide a more interesting experience. read more

A destination Italian spot for good wholesome food! A bit off the beaten path, but well worth finding. Its located on East Sherman, in Millvale at the old Moose club. There's a lot next to the building as well as parking on the same street. The menu is in the front by the open kitchen, where you can see and smell all the wonderful dishes being prepared. We were three friends out for adventures in good eating that day and we were very pleased. One of us abstains from meat, one is lactose intolerant and the other refrains from gluten, music to the ears of all chefs! We started off with delicious salads! The chickpea was full of flavor and crunch from the celery with a brightness added by parsley. I saw the fennel and citrus and asked if they could combine that salad with the mixed greens. It was exactly what I wanted! The soups arrived and were savory and delectable! The only reason there's no photo of the vegetable lasagna, (hot from the oven) that was promptly devoured as soon as it came to the table! Incidentally, we took our leftovers and ordered another serving to take home! Yum! Our return is imminent since we didnt have time to try dessert! read more

I had a date with my lovely wife last night here for the first time. The ambience is okay, but the owner makes you WANT to be there. We ordered the fennel/citrus salad and the mixed greens and we were amazed at how delicious it was. The dinner specials were equally as creative and flavorful. You feel like family when you are there. I highly recommend that you keep an eye on this page as they are doing some very "out of the box" ideas like a live jazz night on feb 5 and tea with the queen on feb 20. This place is scrumptious! Our kids loved the spaghetti and the stuffed shells as much as we adults did. Veggie Lasagne is great too! There is something unique about their salads - they are made with fresh seasonal and sometimes surprising ingredients. The dressings are homemade and so good. Biscotti is amazing. My tip on the soups is to wait 1-2 days to eat them -- like many homemade soups, they taste even better a couple days after you make them. The owner & staff are so nice. I feel happy supporting them. The food may be 5 stars...the customer service is ZERO. After numerous unanswered phone calls, I stopped into the restaurant to speak to customer service about catering. The owner made it seem like it was the ultimate inconvenience to come in at the lunch hour for assistance. Our conversation didn't last long because once we sat down she so rudely told me I should have called during certain hours, ignoring the fact that they failed to answer my calls all week. Sprezzatura needs a lesson on how to treat customers and how to manage their workload during the lunch hour. The customer always comes first, but I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing her by trying to place an order. read more
