New building, new look! Literally a slightly larger building right behind the original. It holds a large kitchen, more space to bake and share the love. I'm on their notification list when new things go down for the week, so this round I pre-ordered their gouda and bacon sourdough loaves, my absolute fave! When I went to pick up on a Saturday am, there was a line out the door. One thing I would suggest- have a separate line for preorder pick ups. So, we don't have to wait in line with the others for a smoother service. My eyes were burning the entire time while we were waiting inside. Mentioned it to the girl behind the counter, but she didn't seem too bothered. Noticed a few standing counter top areas and two small tables for seating. Known for the sourdough, these guys do a really good job with a limited selection and space. They moved into a new building recently which really helps but there are only 2-top tables inside. There is additional seating outside but not reasonable if it is hot or raining. We've been a few times and never been disappointed. The bagels are a bit tough (due to sourdough in lieu of traditional bagel dough) but the bread and other items are fresh and well made. Most of what is available is a pastry, a few cookies and other odd items like spreads. We've been twice and bought bagels but they were unable to re-heat them or provide even butter or cheese for them. The sandwiches are varied and made with their bread. Prices aren't low or medium but fair given that they are making it all there. Watch the hours as they may be open but aren't serving lunch or only have certain products available. My sister reccomended this bakery, located at The Shops at Old Town Helotes. An adorable bakery that specializes in sourdough loaves. You'll find a variety of flavors, depending on the season. I was sent the pre-order menu which included Swiss and Mushroom Sourdough and it appeared that the specialized Sourdough loaves change daily. The menu also includes pastries, pizza, pretzels, cookies, and foccacia bread, depending on the day. The bakery is only open Wednesday- Saturday from 9am-2pm. We arrived early on a Saturday and there was a bit of a line outside. The bakery is small, so only a couple of prople can enter at a time. I picked up my pre order of regular Sourdough and also added two Sourdough Pretzels. Remember to ask them to slice the bread. It comes unsliced. Service was friendly and fast. The bread was delicious with a soft center and a chewy crust. The Pretzels were a bit too salty. But, they were tasty and they tasted so good toasted the next day. This is such a charming place! I think the bagels are a MUST. I live in Austin and my mom always has them ready when I come visit. I also just bought a sourdough sandwich loaf and it's so good. Found this bakery thanks to our toddler who really wanted a morning treat. The building itself is small so if you see a line, there is only about 2-3 people inside. The line moves pretty quickly. As for the bread, oh my goodness! Everything we tried was amazing. The sourdough loaf was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The cinnamon roll was sweet and decadent. The croissant was the perfect balance of citrus and chocolate and not too sweet. I can't recall what the savory bread was called but it had ham and cheese and was SO GOOD. I would recommend following the business on Facebook or Instagram as they post their weekly/daily menus. We will definitely be stopping by again. read more

When you walk in, the amazing aroma and ambience hit you first. Then this happy scene unfolds before you. Bakeries, right? They're the best. But this one is better than best. When I left I took the sourdough baguette and broke off an end to taste. If bread could talk this one would have said, "Oh you think you can have just a taste? Thats's cute." I ate half before I got home because the crust was perfect. If you live less than 15 minutes from here highly recommend weekly visits. Also sign up for their notifications because at the end of the week they discount anything unsold in a product called No Carbs Left Behind - which is a hysterical title. I recently visited Spread the Loaves and tried both their chocolate chip cookie and pumpkin chocolate chip cookie. The chocolate chip cookie was a classic delight--crispy on the edges, chewy in the middle, and packed with gooey chocolate chips, with icing on top! It was everything a chocolate chip cookie should be. The pumpkin chocolate chip cookie was a pleasant surprise with its perfect blend of warm pumpkin spices and rich chocolate chips. It was soft, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweet. Both cookies were absolutely delicious and made my visit worthwhile. Highly recommend checking them out! I am so happy for Spread the Loaves to make a permanent venue in Helotes. Before opening their shop in Old Town Helotes, StL set up their booth during Old Helotes Days. Now they're nestled in the quaint shopping area by Wine 101, The Cracked Mug, many other locally owned shops. The breads, confections, and sandwiches are amazing. We've been several times and everything we have purchased has been delectable. We almost always get a loaf of bread, usually one of their weekly specials and a couple of scones. They have weekly and daily specials. Their sandwiches are freshly made and ready for purchase by mid morning. Today we had their roast beef with au jus. Oh my!! Don't miss out on their cookies, tarts, and muffins. Their specials may be themed based, like their "Christmas in July" offerings which included Hot Cocoa Scones and Christmas stollen. Imaginative and delicious. The owners and staff are as sweet as pie. They are friendly and helpful and happy to stop and visit if it's not too busy. We've been stopping in on occasional Fridays to get some treats and a sandwich for lunch. Please don't miss this hidden gem. It was my first time visiting this bakery, and it definitely won't be my last! I came to pick up a cinnamon apple sourdough I had pre-ordered online, but ended up leaving with a whole assortment of breads and pastries because everything looked incredible. Every loaf of bread, every baked good from muffins to pretzels are phenomenal!!! I got a chocolate sourdough once and made French toast, it was by far the best French toast I've ever experienced in my life! The Japanese sourdough milk bread, omg, so good!!! I had some of the best sando's for a week!! I ate that whole loaf, heck let's be honest I eat all the loaves I buy lolll Before they went on vacation I panicked bought one of each loaf they had and then some lollll, which they been back now and I'm ready for new bread. First time trying this little place. Bought a couple blueberry muffins some lemon curd tarts and a loaf of jalapeño cheese bread. The muffins were moist and chalked full of blueberries, tarts were sweet, tart and flakey and the bread crunchy crust w soft center. Next time I'll go earlier, they sell out quickly. So many varieties of sourdough, my favorite was the rosemary and garlic but you can't go wrong with any of them. Went early and had a slight wait. This place is tiny but well worth the wait. I've ordered several bakers boxes from them, plus on occasion when she has extra items I've ordered some too. The sourdough loaf, is always amazing, cookies flavors so wonderful.
