I ordered a blueberry canasta along with a set of four conchas with and without filling. The prices are average to high but as expected for a higher end bakery and cafe. The items looked amazing and I would be confident bringing them to a party or get together with friends. They are beautifully made. I came on a weekday right before their 3pm closing time. The canasta had a delicious blueberry jam and three fresh blueberries. I liked how it was filling and not overly sweet. I didn't care for the breading as much because it was very doughy - but as it is from a dense concha base, it was expected but still a surprise. It definitely feels more like a roll than an airy concha. I didn't mark off stars because it was good but not my preference. The conchas were dense and tasted good. One can easily be a breakfast item because it's quite filling. Some have flavors inserted inside and others are plain with no filling. They offered complementary drip coffee from Katz brewing with my purchase. It might have been a day special or the time of day, that I am unsure. I stop in before my nail appointment. I had saw the bakery many times but never went in. I was early so thought I would grab a muffin or something. I was surprised to see the menu by the register. I decided to get a breakfast croissant with egg,bacon and cheese. The sandwich came with a salad with a balsamic vinegar dressing. They both were amazing. This was definitely a nice surprise! I had to wait for my appointment so I found Pan Dulce in close proximity. What a gem! Nestled in the Castle Oaks Village shopping center, it's very inviting from the outside looking in. The bakery is directly in front of you as you walk in. To the left and right are seating with very tasteful arm chairs and a sofa. As an aspiring interior designer, I loved how they played with textures, patterns and colors. There is also outside seating which I enjoyed. The service was so welcoming and the ladies were so friendly as they greet you coming in and leaving out. I ordered a regular Colombian coffee and I didn't need to add anything else! The coffee was robust, aromatic and a clean taste. There wasn't a burnt taste to it, no nasty after taste and fresh! I was looking for a place where I could grab a cup of coffee before heading to my next meeting and found them through Yelp. As soon as I stepped inside, the staff welcomed me with a huge smile and asked what I was looking for. There is just something so special about being welcomed with a smile, that automatically makes my experience 10 times better. I told them it was my first time, so they walked me through their entire pastry and coffee menu. I really liked that they offer Colombian and Mexican style coffee. I picked an assorted of pastries to take with me and a colombian coffee. The coffee was super hot, so definitely watch out. All the pastries were delicious and everyone in my family loved them. Was in the area and stopped in for some goodies to take home. The young lady behind the counter was very helpful. The bakery is a decent size with indoor and outdoor seating. I picked up: cherry muffin, pistachio concha, cinnamon roll, and a carrot cake slice. The cherry muffin interesting....wish there was cherries throughout, it was only on top & bottom, but the consistency was more of a cupcake. The pistachio concha was a little dry, but the filling was delicious. The cinnamon roll was perfect. It is quaintly decorated with theme a la France and has comfortable chairs and tables inside as well as outdoor seating options. There is a coffee bar, a glass chess set and books available to read. The only thing missong to make this truly La Vie en Rose was some light background music. Today we had some breakfast tacos, hot cocoa and a chai to-go but I look forward to returning for one of my favorites...CREPES! They do not offer GF (gluten free) treats. they also do not have decaf coffee. I do wish they were open a little later because we have gone by several times at 3pm because we were nearby and been sad to see them closed. They were super busy but Mariana and Flor were hard at work making everything fresh to order. The hot cocoa was perfect, the chai was super sweet, which is great but if you are no sugar be sure to ask, because I forgot to do that. Came here for breakfast for the first time because I seemed to drive by this place but never had the chance or forget to stop by and try it out. However, today, was the DAY! Place is very cozy, friendly, and have various board games to keep the whole family entertained. Inside is not too big but they have tables outside. The menu is basically two pages long. Very simple and easy to read. Staff were friendly and answered all my curious questions to their menu. I chose the fresh croissant with over and easy eggs and side salad. They plate didn't fill me up for had me comfortably satisfied. The mango ice tea was also on point (loved the ice circled ice cubs with holes). I just recently moved to this area and decided to try this place out as I'm a big fan of pan dulce and coffee. They had an assortment of baked goods such as croissants, muffins, conchas, and empanadas. I ended up getting a neopolitan cookie and sweet potato empanada. Both were good, no complaints but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them again. My biggest issue is the coffee. I saw they had an espresso machine, so I ordered an iced latte. The girl behind the counter poured a large amount of cold brew concentrate (without diluting it) into a cup of ice, added milk, and gave it to me. Lattes are an espresso based drink; what I got would be considered a cold brew at best, or a really strong iced coffee. By the time she started working on my coffee, I had already paid, so there was no point in trying to make a fuss or getting a refund. I took one sip of it before calling it quits. All in all, not a bad place for a quick snack or a dessert. The selection is good and the workers are nice. I just do not recommend getting the coffee there! read more

This is such a quaint bakery and coffee shop in the Castle Hills area! I decided to have a quick meeting here and make it a lunch meeting and I was simply blown away by this unique little joint. All of the bread is freshly made here and you're able to see them making it in the back. Be weary their baked goods WILL sell out so if you show up around the late afteroon like I did (more like a big dummy) they selection will be limited but do not let this deter you. Their sandwiches were divine and scrumptious. I really enjoyed the BYOS (build your own sandwich) alongside their set sandwich menu. Wow!! I stumbled into this place by chance today and was completely blown away. I'm a native San Antonian but recently moved into the Castle Hills area and hadn't heard of this place before. I was trying to get Starbucks (only to realize they close at 2:30pm now) and saw the bakery next door. I went inside and picked up a few pastries and took them home. I have to call out that the staff was SO NICE! The girl working the register was extremely polite and the lady who helped serve me was patient and even got a fresh nutella croissant for me from the back. The cheesecake is probably the best cheesecake my wife and I have ever had, and the peanut butter/reese's cookie was incredible. I'm eager to return for sandwiches and breakfast because everything was so good. So glad I found this place! read more

We came to C'est La Vie after lunch for a nice dessert and some coffee. When we walked in we were quickly greeted and the person at the register was very friendly. Unfortunately, their dessert options were extremely limited and most items were sold out. I almost wanted to leave but due to how friendly the staff member was, I stayed. I ordered the chocolate bread pudding. It was very good. My friends got croissant desserts and they also said they were very good. The three stars are for the friendly service, tasty baked goods and nice space. Lost stars for limited options during operating hours and coffee choices. It's probably a great place for a light sandwich and maybe to get some work done but wasn't super impressed yet wasn't disappointed either. Taylor & Eric run this joint and they are super friendly nice guys. They've only been open for about a month. But they are already doing a fantastic job of churning out delicious products. This place loses points for something beyond their control - Starbucks. Yep, Starbucks. According to the staff, they are not allowed to serve anything other than hot coffee from those pump-action thermos containers because Starbucks has some type of exclusive domain for the caffeine racket in the neighborhood. So, in order to get their business license C'est La Vie had to agree to not sell coffee drinks. They can't even sell a tea bag and hot water! I like Starbucks but sometimes these big businesses grind my gears! What C'est La Vie lacks in the coffee department they make up for in the pastry department. This place hits it out of the park. They bake up fresh croissants in both savory and sweet varieties as well as various Danish. I tried the honey pecan croissant and it was quite tasty. The outside was nice and flaky as a croissant should be but the inside had a nice tug and chew to it. They also make a variety of croissant sandwiches. Another BIG bonus for C'est La Vie is that they have not one, but two soft leather sofas. One is a full-sized sofa that seats three comfortably and the other is a two seat love sofa. One other thing to mention is the free WiFi despite it running on the slow side of the spectrum. If you're in the mood for some good pastries and savory sandwiches, stop by C'est La Vie. read more

My friend got a French onion soup. Our server was very friendly, giving me advice on what she thought tasted best and patiently waited while I poured over the display case. I really enjoyed my bear claw. It was flaky but moist and the flavors were totally spot on. I only wish I got it heated. My friend also liked her French onion soup. The best part about this place is the free coffee though. Not your average cheapo coffee but actually very good, hot coffee. For free! There were cute mugs but we opted for to go cups. How nice that they had that available for customers? I enjoyed sitting outside with my friend and her dog, saying hi to each person that walked by. This location is quaint and extremely neighborly. I've tried (and loved) the blueberry lemon scone (so tender), the croissants (so flaky!), the white sandwich bread (so soft and kid approved), the pecan croissant (so perfectly balanced), the ciabatta (so crusty and yeasty) and the roasted tomato soup. *****I need to update this review almost as a public service. I was harassed over Facebook about my updated review by an employee that I had been friendly with for some time. He said I needed to take down my new review... that being butthurt over cups wasn't a good reason to leave a bad review. That he couldn't believe I had the f***ing nerve to show my face there after my review and to never show my "mug" in his bakery again. I did go back last week after a few months to check it out. However my review of the changes under the new owners ring true. It's not the same and I shouldn't be accosted for giving my opinion. I think this person is a manager and I hope the owners and this person can see fit to take honest opinions in stride. I'm also not the only person to point out that they are not as fond of this place since the changes took place. This was massively unprofessional and I guess all I can say is beware of leaving honest opinions of this place unless they are 5 star reviews. ****** So new owners took over and all of the quaint , quirky touches I loved about this place are gone. No more mismatched mugs for coffee, they have been replaced by paper cups. The couches and games and magazines are gone. Only tables and chairs. Very sterile in here now. They've also dramatically scaled down production and taken some lovely items off the menu , like the chocolate chip muffin. And to conclude, their hours went from staying open until 6 pm. Then they scaled it back to 4, and now they close at 3pm. Sadly we just don't go anymore and I miss the way it was. read more
