The other app was glitchy so she & I chatted a bit. I ordered two of their special orders. Now get this when you do that app, which is awesome - go look into it! It helps save waste, while helping the company still make a bit of a profit. I posted the pictures of the cupcakes & the cake bits with icing. Their icing is so good. The Kaluha cupcake was my favorite. Even had a little shot! It was the perfect cupcake for my 60th birthday!Yup, this was my celebration. Placed an order for two dozen cupcakes, and upon order, it was offered to pay on the day of order OR pay later (at pick up) {how I understood the conversation/agreement} I arrived to pick up the order, but it was not completed due to a lack of payment being submitted the day before pick up. I was unaware of this issue and was very disappointed when I arrived to find that the order was not fulfilled, nor was I given a courtesy phone call stating that the order was not being fulfilled. Not only did I NOT get cupcakes for my daughter's birthday planned for months from this company we have been following since we have been stationed in FL, but I have to find an alternative last minute. I understand the payment policy, BUT as a customer, I would have appreciated the notice of the order not being fulfilled instead of nothing at all... very disappointed. Came here spontaneously for some dessert, the parking was great. A lot of open spaces, the shops kinda small when you walk in don't let that alarm you. The cupcakes pack a punch, super moist, super flavorful and so much variety for people and dogs. I tried the seasonal pecan pie cupcake, and it tasted exactly how it sounds. Light fluffy with pieces of pecan in the cupcake. The topping was the perfect amount of sweet. Definitely recommend. The cake wasn't dry it was perfect. The topping for the Oreo cupcake wasn't that great only cause it didn't really give me a true oreo flavor, definitely could be better. I was wandering around this strip center waiting for a friend and I wandered into Smallcakes. This is a cute little place where you mostly take out cupcakes, ice cream or other sweet offerings. There are many varieties of cupcakes available. I chose 5 different cupcakes and sat right there to eat a chocolate variety. Right away I was struck by how sweet the icing is. I prefer whipped icing, and this is about the sweetest sugar buttercream type icing I have ever eaten. I cannot say I enjoyed it. But the business was brisk with obviously repeat customers. I shared my selections with my friends a bit later, and they enjoyed all of them. The cake itself was tasty and moist. The price point is average for a cupcakery. I don't actually recall what I spent but possibly about $5 a cupcake might be in the range. They also offer small cakes to feed maybe 2-3 people for those times you need a bit more than a single cupcake. I'm giving it 4 stars because other than the icing, there is nothing I would improve, and the icing is just not my preference but others love it. read more

I drove over 45 mins to get to the shop, only for them to sell me a basic yellow cake cupcake after I asked multiple times if this was the actual peach cobbler cupcake. Of course I set out to find a local bakery who could make us a small Minnie Mouse cake for the party and took to Yelp to find one. So, I reached out via email and within the day I got a response. We chatted about the style of the cake I wanted and shared a reference photo. Then, once I got my quote I called the shop to place my order. Pickup was easy peasy and the cake turned out so beautiful. We received many compliments from our guests. Better yet - it tased just as great! So often you can find beautiful cakes but they don't have the flavor to match - not Smallcakes! The vanilla cake was light and had that wonderful vanilla flavor and the buttercream icing was the perfect amount. I ordered the choc-ho-lic, strawberry, and the cherry blossom cupcakes. Note: you can ask for medium sized cupcakes, if they have any. These are the same size of cupcakes you would maKe at home and not the ones on display which are much bigger. If they don't have the flavor available, ask if they have any in the back. Chances are they will! Take always: - choc-ho-lic: decadent, rich and incredibly moist and flavorful! It is every chocolate lovers dream! The frosting is velvety and not overly sweet. It complimented the cupcake perfectly. I could do without the chocolate sprinkles but they might do it for texture purposes. - strawberry: light and fluffy, you definitely get the strawberry flavor in both the cupcake and the frosting! They had a little sliver of strawberry on top which is nice! It would be great if they had some sort of a strawberry filling or gelee in the middle to bring the flavor out but nonetheless, you won't be disappointed. - cherry blossom: it's a vanilla based cake with a cherry flavored frosting and a maraschino cherry on top. The cake was light, fluffy and very moist! If there were any cherry flavors in it, I honestly didn't taste it. However, it was still very good. The frosting was light, sweet and definitely had the cherry flavoring. I thought there would be a cherry filling but I might have misunderstood the girl. I really enjoyed the frosting and would probably have it again! My recommendations since they bake the cupcakes from scratch and right in that store is to use real cherries instead off maraschino. Maraschino cherries cheapens it, but that's just me. I'd also incorporate real cherries into the cupcake itself to get that explosion of cherries! I'm so sad that I didn't like these. I'm desperately in need of a decent cupcake place! My issue was with the frosting. I'm not sure what the ingredients are but I tried four different ones and all the frostings tasted like chemicals to me and my fiancé. The cupcakes themselves were so beautifully flavored and moist, which is what most bakeries struggle with, but the frostings were unfortunately not good. We tried the raspberry red velvet, the lemon drop, the caramel crunch and the vanilla and chocolate. Not one frosting tasted good, but the raspberry red velvet I would buy again in a heart beat and just scrape off the frosting. Okay so I've been frequenting the Smallcakes in Lake Mary FL for over two years, so for my daughter's birthday over this past summer, before looking anywhere else, I searched to see if there was a smallcakes in San Antonio and there was!!! Smallcakes in general is THE ONLY place I will order cupcakes at so I am happy to witness that this San Antonio location did not disappoint. Five stars for customer service, five stars for making Lyric's 12 year birthday cake on such a short notice, 4 stars for aesthetics of their cake portfolio (the worst of any Smallcakes portfolio I've seen - they go overboard with the irregular icing placement) and Lyric's cake, which came out fine, per my request of "light icing". Their portfolio seriously scared me but I didn't want to go anywhere else on such a short notice. But my daughter was very pleased and I was able to sigh in relief. The frosting was yummy but I did wish the caramel frosting on the caramel cupcake was a little lighter. This place was pretty good. The coconut cream cupcake tasted exactly like what I thought a coconut cream pie would taste like. The caramel crunch one was by far my favorite. The cake was moist and had a rich chocolatey taste. The caramel icing on top was thick, rich, fudgey and honestly I could just eat that out of a bowl. It's also slightly salty which perfectly balances out that sweet and salty sensation. The pretzel on top I feel would have been better if it was crushed up on top to get an even flavor of it, but that's just me being picky. The lemon drop filling is sensational. It's tangy without being overly sweet. The consistency was nice, not reminding me of jello which I don't like. The only thing I didn't like was the icing, so I just scooped it off to only eat the cake haha. Unfortunately none of us liked the cookies and cream cupcake. We aren't sure what happened with it but it tasted plastic-y, the icing was hard and crunchy (not with the cookies). I would suggest you get everything else minus that cupcake.
