While I do like their cakes because they have an overall good taste and are moist, I dont feel their cakes are any different from other bakeries. Its good but not anything I will say wow thats the best cake I have had. I do feel that they are a little pricey. They offer a variety of fillings and frosting options some can be a little sweet. I have never been more disappointed with a business! I preordered a cake for my anniversary to surprise my husband from Lucy's. When I went to pick it up, I was told that it was already picked up by someone else. Then for the next 20 minutes the staff argued with me saying that someone I knew picked it up already and I was mistaken. When in reality, the Lucy's stuff gave my preordered cake to the wrong customer because they did not verify the order before giving it away to someone who just walked in. The Lucy's staff then proceeded to make me feel like I was in the wrong and am the reason for the messed up order pickup. And that I should feel bad for them because now "they are the ones who have lost out because they gave away product that wasn't paid for". However I was the one who prepaid for a cake that was given away! After this argument over a $20 cake, they remade the cake for me and told me that I did not have to REPAY FOR A CAKE I ALREADY PAID FOR. How generous of them! But they said I should check when I got home that someone from my family didn't already pick up the cake and call them if it was at my house. ONCE AGAIN, it was a surprise cake for my husband that no one knew about! So Hey Lucy's! This is a note to let you know that no one from my family picked up the SURPRISE cake for me and your staff needs some SERIOUS training on customer service and basic admin tasks. I ordered a burn image cake from here because I was surprising my husband during his town pass from BMT graduation so I really didn't want it to have any issues since I have limited time with him and travelled 8 hours. I called twice and emailed and made sure they could do it correct and they said yes and gave me a time to pick up made me pay full price at time of order. I had to drive the 8 hours the day I picked it up so I got there late and I was so flustered I just signed and glanced at it said thanks and took the cake then I get in the car and look again you could see the pink under the baby ultra sound (photo on top) he would have known immediately before getting to burn it! They said the decorator was going to fix it and then when she was done I looked again and it was still showing pink it wasn't as bad but definitely still could see pink and the decorator came out and blamed me for the image I chose and said there's nothing they can do about it and I don't understand why the two times I've called and other times emailed no one told me my image was going to be see through and I needed to choose a different color or anything. She is the baker she knew it was showing pink I don't understand why there was no communication or warning or why she couldn't just redo the image to something else when I got there. I left and the next day we had him burn it and the image was too huge it wasn't even showing "a" all it shows is "it's girl". Like are you kidding me. That makes no sense why would the baker read that and continue to put the next image on? Really I blame the decorator because all this could have been prevented and she did not give a crap I ordered a few weeks in advance too. It's unprofessional I paid $115 for a crappy version of the cake I showed them the inspo. We live in Blanco, Texas so my sister lives in San Antonio and offered to pick it up. I called and I will say the order takers over the phone do not have much of a bed side manner. They are very matter of fact and do not have time for niceties but they are efficient and get the job done and correct. They asked how I wanted it to be decorated and I just advised use Fall colors and have it say "Happy Birthday Alyssa" those were the only instructions. The cake I got was beyond my expectations. The end product was phenomenal. I then for my daughter's birthday a few week later ordered the cake from there as well and it was worth the one hour drive from our house in Blanco, Texas. My daughter has a tendency to ask for obscure heroes or characters this year it was Batgirl and thanks to Lucy's she had her most favorite cake yet. OH and if I haven't mentioned it yet the cake is moist and delicious and can do all different fillings. I have chosen both times the custardy cream and it has been so yummy that we will always get our cakes from here. My wife and I bought a cake from here for a gender reveal and we are disappointed with the outcome of the cake. We asked for a pink filling and they put a thin layer of a really light pink filling that no one could see. Everyone was confused digging in the cake trying to see what the color was. The front desk girl that took our order was in bad mood or something and didn't ask any questions for the details of the cake. Everything she wrote down was what she wanted. I ordered a two-tier cake, stating my daughter, who is graduating from Air Force BMT, loves decorating cakes and is quite proficient at it, and I'm sure she would be thrilled to receive a professionally decorated cake. I was very relaxed about whatever flavor and whatever Air Force design was used, as long as the cake is two tiers. We flew in from across the country and had an appointment to pick up the cake the day of her Coin Ceremony. We had no time for mistakes, but given my relaxed attitude about the decor, and clarity around it being 2 tiers, I thought it couldn't go wrong. It did. The cake made was only one tier. I was furious, but had to buy it anyway due ti time constraints. The girl at the counter explained that one tier is for ten people while two tiers is for 25 people - something I had not heard yet. She did not seem to care much at all about the mistake. Since I had already paid four days ago and was short on time, we begrudgingly took the cake. We hoped it at least tasted amazing, but it was just a mediocre cake with mediocre filling and frosting. Nothing special. Publix cakes taste better. As for looks, it was a beautiful, if not short, cake. The decor was made from fondant, and could have been cut a bit more cleanly but it looked good for the occasion. Not professional, but good. Honestly, my daughter's homemade cakes look more professional. After spending two days out and about I'm San Antonio, we realized that just about everything in this city is mediocre, so maybe we are just used to better cooking and more professional service? Let me start off by saying that me and my family have done business with Lucy's since I was a child. Really that's the only cakes I remember. The lady at the counter gave me directions about keeping the cake on a flat service. Cool .. we did that. She opened the box to show me my cake, it was just like I ordered it... beautiful. So I go hv a birthday dinner with my family, I take the cake out the box. The cake is lop sided. Everybody starts commenting that what happened to the cake. The icing was perfect on the cake and all around the edges, the icing hadn't cracked anywhere on the cake. The bottom boarder of the cake was also perfect on the edge of the dolly, as if they had put the icing on a crooked cake. I called the shop early the next morning. The gentleman that took my call, he immediately became hostile over the phone. He tried to tell me if the cake was crooked, I would have been able to tell when the lady open the top of the box to show me the cake. How? If it's inside a box. We didn't noticed till we took it out the box. He kept telling me the cake had slid apart. There was no cracked icing anywhere so how was that? I finally made it back to the shop to show him photos we took of the cake. And he continued to try to prove his point in store and to blame us because the cake "slid" He said it had just started to slide that's why the icing wasn't cracked anywhere. My husband asked him for a refund and he said he wouldn't give me a refund. He asked "why would they make only my cake like that" I don't know. But why would I make a fuss over something that was my fault? I know my review probably won't make a difference but I just wanted to put it out there. I have been a Lucy's customer for some 40 years and for my birthday this year I wanted an 8" round cake and my husband, who was gracious enough to accommodate my request, brought home the moistest, tastiest and most beautifully decorated cake I've had since the last time I had Lucy's some 6 years ago. As a first time customer I just have to warn God forbid you have a last minute need to cancel an order which falls outside of their ridiculous cancellation window. My granddaughter who is 2 years old got sick suddenly and obviously we had to cancel her birthday party. We emailed almost two days ahead and I called early the morning before pickup day. I spoke with the owner who claims to care about his customers' satisfaction. Hmmm I wasn't offered any options other than "you can freeze the cake". He initially didn't even ask for the name on the order or any other details of the cake order I just was told that our cake was already in production. Maybe go check to see where the cake is exactly in production. Maybe it could have been halted and re sold. I would have even settled for a store credit for future use. Once I went to pick it up I was asking about the freezing process as I've never froze a cake before especially one that was already decorated, I was advised that since it has a digital image once it is thawed that image will become runny!
