My first visit to this location of Chef's Table. I was the only other patron besides a couple who seemed to be regulars. The waiter was very friendly and gave his recommendations. My food came out quickly and everything was fresh and flavorful. The bread they serve with the meals is fluffy and delightful, I had to stop myself from eating all of it before my entree arrived! The pastry shop next door features all kinds of sweets and I took some home for later. The decor is beautiful and the place was very clean. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and sat promptly. They brought bread and a special sauce to the table. My husband and mom said it was delicious, sadly I couldn't eat it because it had pineapple in it. We started randomly smelling an awful mildew/ dust smell and looked around and saw that the place was really clean so it was weird. The longer we were there the smell just kept getting worse and worse. It started giving me a headache and we were going to leave but then they came with our food so I decided to just suck it up. I did not like a single thing. The pide was pretty flavorless, the cheese was like hard plastic, and the veggies on top were definitely not cooked/ baked, but were ice cold. The beef dumplings were so hard and unedible. They barely had any stuff on the inside and the yogurt sauce/ marinara combo sadly did not mix well for me. My husband had the mix grill and said the meat was cooked nicely but there wasn't much flavor and he did not like the sour dressing they use on their salad. My mom also said the gyro meat did not taste like gyro at all and had a weird chemical after taste. We spent over $100 here and all left disappointed and still hungry. This place was packed though so idk if we went at a bad time, ordered wrong or what but I personally would never eat here again. We had a short wait for our table; we waited in the pastry shop next door (connected to the restaurant) Of course Saturdays are always a busy time for restaurants. I had the chicken Shish Kabob which was quite delectable. Portion was ample. My dining guest had the Lamb & Beef Doner which was an ample portion. I saw plastic water bottles on the neighboring tables and thought it looked tacky. It kind of took away something from my dining experience. If you have not been to Chef's Table - go...now. I've been here twice now and both times have been Excellent!. Having spent a little time in Turkey (2 years) where I ate a lot of food I appreciate that eating here evoked so many memories of food shared with others. On our first visit, we started off with the mixed grill. Really loved the muammara, though the baba ganoush was also outstanding - and who can forget that bread! Its warm, and so good at soaking up pretty much anything. For my main, I had to get the lamb tava. You don't see this on a lot of menus in the US. This is flavorful, with bell pepper, onion, garlic, and tomatoes. It was perfect, truly warmed the soul. On the second visit I opted for the Iskender kabob. Lamb and beef thinly sliced layered over.....bread.....which soaked up all those juices. Again - perfect. Don't forget dessert (store next door, but connected). There is nothing better to end a great meal than a great dessert. I'm a huge fan of pretty much pistaciho anything. I think its times to plan another trip to SATX! read more

My family and I stopped by for the first time and tried the falafel, Mediterranean salad, lamb chops, and the Dubai chocolate from the connecting place next door. The lamb chops were absolutely bomb and could give Chamagocha a real run for their money. The rice and salads were fresh, flavorful, and honestly exceeded my expectations. Tonight we tried this restaurant and it was amazing! The staff, the food, the location...everything was great! We've never had Turkish food before so we decided to be safe and order the pide. It's basically a Turkish pizza. My husband had a cheese pide and I had a spinach and feta pide. So flavorful and filling. The bread and dipping sauce they bring when you are seated was also fantastic. The sauce is spicy but not too spicy. It's a kind of sweet and salty and like nothing I've ever tried. They also have a Turkish coffee and dessert place connected. The pastries look like they are out of a magazine. So perfect looking. The flavors just weren't there. Wait staff was slow and a bit in the clouds, had to remind him twice for our beverage order( 2 waters). One order got messed up but corrected immediately. When asking for olive oil instead of their spice blend for the complimentary bread, we were informed they didn't have any olive oil... yyaaa.... Oookkkkaayyy..... Again, the flavor just weren't there for their price points. Were there a good amount of options? Yes. But when it came down to the flavors, size of food plated and quality. So received a pop up ad for this place and decided to try it for dinner today. The food is oh-so flavorful. For appetizers we ordered the falafel and it was cooked to perfection. The fried cauliflower isn't quite fried but moreso boiled. My partner ordered chicken Iskender and the sauce mixed with the chicken was so good but add the crispiness? OMG so good. There was so much to choose from and I couldn't pick so my waitress picked for me (she didn't miss). I had the mix grill for one. I hate to write this as I had such a great experience at the Babcock location. My family and I walked in to the Bandera location and as soon as we entered we were rudely greeted by an older woman because my sister walked straight to a table. She started pointing to a sign that was backwards by the way that said "please wait to be seated". Unfortunately we did see it because the sign was backwards and not facing the entrance. The woman then asked how many in our party. My sister told her that there are 8 in our party. She then, with an attitude, said I need to know how many kids and how many adults. I didn't understand why this was important as all the children needed a chair to sit in regardless. She kept going back to talk to a gentleman and he just told her to seat us. She then offered us two large seating areas and told us to choose which one. As soon as my sister chose the table on the right, she then suggested we take the table to the left instead. I don't even understand the purpose for giving us an option then suggest something else. My family and I just felt very uncomfortable in the 5 minutes we were in there. We ended up just walking out. I can only imagine how we would have been treated if we stayed. I hate to even write this because we have only positive experiences at the Babcock location and the food is delicious. read more

Heard so many reviews about this place and had to try it out. Walked in on an early Saturday afternoon, around 1130am, and it wasn't that busy but it did pick up later! We beat the rush! Our server was incredibly nice and gave us recommendations on what to eat. She was patient and kind. The ambiance transported me to turkey with the decor, and the beautiful lights! We ordered the following: Hummus: it was excellent. The kids tore it up! Not overly lemony or oily! It was actually very good and excellent for dipping with the free bread they give you! Chicken Tava: it came out piping hot. Full of onions and peppers in a nice gravy sauce. Rice was included with this meal which is similar to a rice pilaf. I'm torn with the dish. It was good, but I think if they added a little more salt, it would have taken it to a different level. I'd still recommend it if you like stew! Beef tenderloin shake kebab: my daughter loved it with the rice. The beef was tender but needed a little more flavor as well. The salad was good as well but a little overdressed. The dressing was bright and tangy. Cheese Pide: the dough is very similar to the bread they provided us at the beginning. The cheese is so good! It taste like fresh mozzarella! It was very good and the kids loved it! Lamb & Beef Doner (Gyro) meat: the server brought this for all of us to taste because I couldn't make a decision between this and the chicken Tava. Let me tell you...this was probably THE best dish and it was complimentary! It was packed full of flavor. There were hints of lemon in it too! I would definitely recommend this plate/meat above everything else!!! It was so good! There were crispy ends & tender ends! Definitely a must! We were served bread with a spicy chili dip. We had never had this dip but my husband loved it. I don't care for spicy food so I only had a tiny taste and that was enough heat for me. We both ordered the Mediterranean salad, one with lamb and the other chicken. The portion was a sizeable amount. The dressing was delicious and the meats were very tasty. Oh my goodness. I'm not sure if it's a cultural difference or a lack of common sense. I just enjoyed a cute lunch with my honey. Nice atmosphere, okay food, fabulous music and then it happens. This young man with a Messi jersey changed out a brand new squeeze bottle of the yummy red spicy dip. He removed the plastic seal and attempted to put a lid back on and dropped the lid with the squeeze spout on the dirty floor, where they stand getting sauces and plates out. I couldn't believe my eyes. I motioned to the "manager", so I could make him aware of the heinous act and he seemed nonchalant about my news. I even whispered it because I was embarrassed and didn't want to embarrass him. He removed the tainted container, but did he really? His lack of surprise and remorse made me cancel the dessert order that was being prepared and forced me to leave my already prepared to go orders right there on the table. We immediately got up to pay and leave because of his attitude. We will not be spending our money there. I need you to have basic food hygiene and food preparation hygiene if you want my money. I've come to this location a few times and the experience is on average really good! The location is clean and decor is festive, you feel welcomed in and ambience is good. Service varies per visit - there have been times we were served in a timely manner and times we waited 30+ minutes for appetizers. This is regardless of the business being busy or not. The quality of the food doesn't miss - the hummus is fantastic and not overly seasoned, and we loved the flatbread that comes with the meals. We typically order two or three mixed grill platters to share with family - they are huge! I recommend one platter per two people (and you will have leftovers). I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the mood for great food in the northwest side of town. read more

Never leave reviews but this one got to me. Once we sat down we were ready to order cause we've been here before. The lady did not want to take our order because apparently there was 3 before that needed their order taken but 2 out of the 3 were still looking at the menu and couldn't decide what they wanted. Everywhere we have gone to go eat once we sit down and we tell the waitress we're ready, they'll take our order. So I have to wait on them even if they're not ready to order.
