Spotted Duck is a gem!! Minutes from Seneca Lake on a beautiful farm it serves the most decadent custard, quaint scenery and welcoming atmosphere. Picnic tables provide a perfect spot to enjoy your treat nestled against fields and the little barn with the cutest ducks. We enjoyed 4 flavors on our visit. I am GF they were very helpful and used a clean scoop to serve my choices. They also had a DF option as well.
We drove an hour to visit on 4th of July and it did not disappoint. Immediately from the car, the building is modern with beautiful landscaping and very clean. There was a small line to order with an easy to understand menu. You round the corner to grab your order and then there are picnic tables in a well maintained grass area. You can watch the ducks roam. The ice cream itself was delicious and we had a hard time ranking our favorites. We tried the vanilla, chocolate, cookies n cream, strawberry rhubarb and lemonade. We will be back for more
We loved spotted duck and have been coming here since it was a little hut with the original owners. It's a fun experience and delicious ice cream! We came on a Friday afternoon and there was plenty of parking and seats at picnic tables. Once we ordered at the window we checked out the ducks as we waited for our ice cream flight to be ready. If you have kids, this is a must! Our 3 year old loved it! Ask for a complimentary cup of food at the window to feed the ducks! Ice cream is creamy and flavorful!
We arrived 15 minutes before closing so it was pretty busy but so worth it to make a trip up this way. We got a eight flight of ice cream but they only had seven flavors so we had to double up on one. I wish we were able to try a different one like from the pints, but they said I could only pick from the seven. I thought it was cool that they had informational signs outside about how the ice cream is made. It had great outdoor seating and cute little ducks outside. Very farm-chic. A girl was feeding the ducks and I said wow! That's really cool and they said yeah if you ask at the window you can get food to feed them which I thought was really awesome. My daughters loved doing that. The chocolate flavors were our favorite.

So happy we were able to try spotted duck while we were vacationing up at Keuka lake. They really have a wonderful establishment and I can see why it is so popular. And custard made w duck eggs?? Definitely a win! We pulled up to a fairly busy Tuesday but there was plenty of parking in the back. It's a beautiful building and there is a cool peacock that meanders about the property. Staff weren't overly friendly but also weren't rude or off-putting. Sadly when we went, only 3 flavors of regular custard were available so in order to fill a flight I added a non-dairy mango, which was surprisingly one of the better flavors. This is where reviewing begins to get convoluted and more difficult. The flavors in general were a little weak, and there was ice separation which hurt the consistency and took away from the creaminess; the whole premise of custard vs ice cream. I'm sure it is due to the custard being all natural but also leaves me torn. While I truly appreciate that they do not use gums and emulsifiers, it ultimately hurts the consistency and flavor. The scoop size is about the size of a golf ball which is good for waist conscientious folks but you can also walk away hungry after spending a good amount of money. Overall, it was a nice visit but I would like to see a few more available flavors, less ice separation (if it's possible without chemicals) and service with a smile.
We had to make our annual visit to Spotted Duck as I had been craving their flavors. We arrived and it was not too busy for a Saturday afternoon. We ordered two flights and were very happy with our flavor selections. The seasonal strawberry rhubarb was a favorite. They do have a lot of flavors available in pints which you can't get in scoops. This was a bit disappointing and we will need to remember to bring a cooler with us next time. As always the grounds were lovely and inviting. We sat close to the ducks which we enjoyed observing while we ate our ice cream. We were given two cups of duck feed with our order and the kids enjoyed interacting with the animals.
Truly incredible. Some of the best ice cream my taste buds have ever experienced. We ordered a flight and tried Fleur Bleu, Java Junction, Blueberry Streusel, and Fudgie Wudgie. Fleur Bleu was a standout - light, smooth, with just the right balance of blueberry and lavender. Fudgie Wudgie was also exceptional: rich, dense, and almost brownie-like in texture. Each scoop felt thoughtfully crafted and totally lived up to the hype. The setting made it even better with plenty of outdoor seating, friendly ducks roaming nearby, and even a peacock making an appearance. A delightful treat all around.
Stopped by and the Spotted Duck never fails! Another new favorite flavor on the books: Sweet Corn . It sounds intriguing so we went for it and were not disappointed, love this unique flavor!! The birds were so welcoming and friendly too!

Ice cream made with... duck eggs? Sometimes things sound too unique to not try and my oh my does this ice cream shop deserve to be on your radar! Spotted Duck has been throned the best spot in NY state and I have to agree with the masses. With their rotating menu of refreshing flavors, friendly staff, and beautiful outdoor seating area, there's no other place I'd recommend more than for a scoop! If you're having trouble deciding between their flavors, have no fear and order a flight! Take a seat with your 4 (or 8!) selected flavors right next to the ducks who make this possible and you might even be lucky enough to have the roaming peacock say hi!

Imagine asking, "What would an ice cream stand be like if it were crossed with a fine FLX winery in a beautiful farm setting?"--that's exactly the vibe here. Elevated, serene, and absolutely delicious. The facility and grounds are immaculate, with a peaceful, pastoral atmosphere that makes you want to linger. The staff was warm and welcoming, and they generously offered samples so we could explore the flavors before committing (dangerous, because they're all incredible). We ultimately chose three flavors: * Cookie Monster (Real Cookies & Cream) -- Their take on cookies & cream is next‑level. It's built on their handcrafted vanilla cream base and loaded with hearty chunks of their own legendary chocolate chip cookies. Think of an ice cream sandwich turned inside out--rich, decadent, and deeply satisfying. * Fleur Bleu -- A gorgeous blend of local organic blueberries, subtle French lavender, and their classic vanilla cream. It's delicate, floral, and beautifully balanced. This one kept us slowing down each bite just to savor the nuance. * Ditch Mint Chip -- Made with hand‑picked fresh mint and dark chocolate chips. Bright, refreshing, and leagues above the artificial mint flavor you get elsewhere. It was excellent, though admittedly overshadowed by the other two standouts. The frozen custard itself is among the best we've ever tasted--rich, creamy, and unbelievably smooth thanks to their signature use of local duck eggs. Incredible! Such a cute spot with delicious frozen custard! Adorable ducks! Very nice ambiance- lots of outdoor seating with umbrellas too. First, the custard was all delicious. We ordered the flight with all 8 flavors, and I would happily eat even my least favorite again. So yummy and creamy. Richer and a tad denser than traditional icecream. The blueberry streusel flavor surprised me the most- it's vegan and I wasn't expecting to love it but it ended up being my favorite. The coconut is very subtle but melds beautifully with the other flavors. You can't tell that it is vegan. I also loved the Java Junction and the Real Cookies n cream flavors. Fleur Bleu had a very strong lavender flavor- it overpowered the blueberry flavor. It was so fun feeding the ducks! They were a bit shy at first but all came out when they realized we had food- just ask for some duck food when you order your custard! There is also a random peacock which was a fun surprise. Overall, I would highly recommend! Such a fun activity! read more

Wow! Super fun find in the finger lakes We splurged and had a flight- a small scoop of 8 flavors! We couldn't choose our favourite they were all so good (note- the duck egg does leave a bit of a coating on the roof of your mouth) Bucolic setting - great place to visit with kids! read more

Frozen custard made with duck eggs!!? Yup. $2.50 single scoop $5 double..10 ish flavors; 2 vegan; 2 seasonal ( mint chip and strawberry rubarb) I enjoyed the subtle flavors not overly sweet. The duck egg maybe lends to richness but wasn't a wow factor for me. I LOVE that they serve in real tin ice cream dishes and float cups..with small spoons (swoon). LOVE sitting out back at a picnic table overlooking the ducks and rolling hills. LOVE the ice flight option. Boo, no sample tastes; small scoops; not enough shade seating.. Definitely worth the trip and the 5 minute wait. read more
This spot has been on my bucket list forever, and I finally decided to make the drive. The long trip was totally worth it! The ice creamery has won many awards for its ice cream. There are two menus, one for pint flavors, and one for scoops. There are two lots, so plenty of parking. There wasn't too much of a line when I first arrived, but within half an hour it started filling up and by the time I left it wrapped around the building! The staff is very polite and friendly. I ordered the Keuka flight with fleur bleu (blueberry lavender), sweet corn, real cookies and cream, and salted caramel. You pick up at the window on the side of the building, and my order was ready as soon as I walked around. Very fast service. In back there is a dining area with tons of picnic tables, which overlooks the duck pen. It was so incredibly relaxing to sit at a table, eating my ice cream, listening to the soft quacking of the ducks and watching them wander in the pen. (There were chickens and even a peacock too!) All of the ice creams were incredible. The texture is amazing, very creamy and delicate (but fast melting!) I started with the sweet corn, which was actually my favorite. Very even flavor, a little sweet but also a little savory. The blueberry lavender was floral with a touch of fruity. Salted caramel was rich and solid. The cookies and cream is made not with oreo cookies, but their signature chocolate chip cookies. I doubled back for one scoop of the raspberry lemonade, which was also phenomenal - with a ribbon of lemon curd. There are a ton of wineries on the road leading in, so you could definitely make a day of it. Also, very close to Seneca and Keuka Lakes. Very picturesque and peaceful, family-friendly and dog friendly too. Worth a stop if you're in the area and worth taking the drive if you're not. read more
This is a local, family-owned business that serves delicious frozen custard, which is made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. On my first visit here, I had a good experience. The ordering process was straightforward. There was a long line at the ordering counter, but it was fast moving. The ordering and pick-up windows were separate. The current selection of frozen custard flavors was listed on a board next to the ordering window. The menu of what they offer was also on the wall next to the ordering counter. We got one order of the four-scoops flight and a separate single scoop in a cup. In the four scoops flight, we got a scoop of Raspberry Ripple, Strawberry Rhubarb, Cookies 'n' Cream, and Java Junction and four the separate single scoop, we got Mint Chip. The flavors and the texture were amazing. They were delicious. The flavors were very pronounced and distinct in taste. The texture was creamy. I liked all the flavors we had. My favorites were the Raspberry Ripple and Java Junction. The setting of this ice cream shop is very nice. The back area of the shop is a farm where you can find ducks and a peacock. Their frozen custard recipe uses duck eggs. The back patio has benches for patrons to hang out while enjoying the frozen custard. It's a scenic place. I have only one thing to say that was disappointing to us, which was the scoops size. Not only was the flight scoop size small (tasters portion as expected), but also the regular scoops were the same as the flight size, which I thought was not right. But otherwise, we had no issues. Beautiful country setting. Simple menu.... Nice selection of flavors This is small batch frozen custard made with local ingredients including duck eggs and contains no additives, etc. No indoor seating, it was a bit cool but a very sunny day. We put on our jackets and enjoyed our treats outside. I had the coffee and the apple crisp custard. The scoops are not big, but the custard is rich, flavorful and creamy and worth a visit. read more
Honestly, I'm a bit obsessed... it's probably for the best that Spotted Duck is a bit of a drive for me, because otherwise I'd be here all the time to enjoy the variety of delicious custard flavors. Perhaps most shocking? One of my favorite flavors (I split a 9 flavor ice cream flight with a friend) was the "fleur bleu", flavored with blueberries and lavender. I don't even like lavender! But the fleur bleu? THAT was a delicious custard flavor... I'm surprised that I liked it, but I really did. (Other faves? The blueberry streusel and java junction. SO GOOD.) What brought me here most recently? In true Millenial fashion, I wanted to do something special for my dog's birthday. Haha. We spent some time at Keuka Lake State Park and then came to visit Spotted Duck and get him a little birthday treat. Yes, folks... Spotted Duck will put a scoop of ice cream in a little bowl and top it with a biscuit for your sweet pooch to enjoy. Service is friendly and welcoming (and, obviously, it's very dog-friendly too!). There's plenty of picnic table-seating in the back, and then you also get to see the ducks that help make this custard so delicious! Just a really fun, laid back atmosphere. Definitely a 5/5 for me - and my dog loved it too. ;-) read more

Write this review on a cold winter day because I miss this place. The best ice cream in the US! Organic flavors with aroma of duck eggs. I usually order an ice cream flight with 8 flavors. But if I have to pick, perhaps lavender or vanilla will be the best. The farm is also beautiful and peaceful. I want to spend time here every summer! (O, maybe they heard me and I just learned that they started offering farm stay!) read more

Whilst on a trip in Upstate NY, one of my friends that attended Keuka College was very keen on showing me around town. She mentioned the Spotted Duck and said it was a must try! Naturally, we made the time to stop by. There was a bit of a line but fortunately it gave us time to decide what we'd like to try. I ended up opting for the Keuka Flight so I could try a few of their flavors :) After ordering, the ice cream came out pretty quick. We had to receive the order in to go containers since they were a bit close to closing time. We sat at one of the picnic tables in the back and dug in. The ice cream was sooo delicious. It was really creamy and admittedly was a unique experience from other ice cream tastings in my life. While we were sitting at the table, Alejandro the peacock walked by! It was really random but fun. Overall, the ambiance was lovely and only added to the experience. I really enjoyed my time at Spotted Duck and would definitely come back! read more
A hidden gem on Seneca lake. High quality ingredients for high quality custard. Never had a flavor i didn't love from Spotted Duck. My favorites are hot mud (spicy chocolate) and strawberry rhubarb but everything is GREAT. If you are indecisive I suggest the flight of 4 for about $8.50. Flavors are rotating so be sure to try what you want when you're there! Prices are slightly elevated compared to normal ice cream but worth it with such quality ingredients. The place can get busy so go early, on a weekday, or be prepared to wait ( it's worth it). Its a great stop if you're near Penn Yann, with picnic tables, yard games, and so. Many. Cute. I stopped by after fishing nearby and I am glad I did! It's definitely one of the most creamy and smooth ice cream I've had. They also have a good selection of sherbets and sundaes. I am a big fan of salted caramel and that was my favorite. The strawberry rhubarb was also something different and I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely will return! read more

This ice cream was recommended by a friend. I've never been in the Penn Yan area so I asked her where to go and this was on her list. The ice cream is made with duck eggs and is so creamy and delicious! My friend & I shared a flight. I got the pumpkin spiced pecan & seneca salted caramel. Both were delicious and full of flavor. My friend got the Dutch apple crumble & Java junction. She loved the flavors and creaminess. They don't have inside seating here but have outside picnic tables. read more
All the ice cream here is homemade and made with duck eggs and real ingredients. Also, dairy free/gluten free options too. Set on a grassy area with nice picnic tables over looking the duck pen. It felt relaxing on a beautiful sunny day. Order the ice cream flight to taste all of their rotating creative flavors. The vanilla and lemon curd/basil flavors were my favorite. read more

This place was AMAZING. We were looking for a new ice cream place for our yearly Keuka lake trip, and Spotted Duck just became our new favorite. They were super nice and we didn't have to wait in line long at all. Not to mention the ice cream is maybe the best I've ever had? After you get your ice cream you get to eat out back where they have the cutest ducks, chickens, and a peacock. There's tons of seating, very handicap friendly! read more

Fun place. But somehow I didn't get what the big craze was all about. If I didn't wait for 35m for my ice cream I would have given a 4 star review. Waited 35 mins (some people waited for an hour) for our ice cream. Thank god they have ducks and fowls and a peacock to spend your time on. Ice cream was creamy and all but wouldn't know they were from duck eggs if I didn't know. Blueberry flavor was my favorite. Rest of the flavors were okay as well. Like I said, maybe something was lost on me. I didn't get the craze. Place was packed though so I'm pretty sure it's me who's missing something read more
Lots of unique ice cream options! We had vanilla creme and caramelt. Both were tasty! The friends we came with had a flight and thought the pamity coffee was the best! It's a unique spot and a great stop when visiting the Finger Lakes. read more
The ice cream is fantastic. To all the people saying it's bland .. well it's not full of chemicals like Perry's and other ice cream is. It's made from real goods! And duck eggs! Much more healthier I'm sure. And the view is fantastic in the back! Little suggestion to the owners .. I would make your flights at least a scoop and a half per tasting . It can't be that more expensive. read more
