I offered to make placemats and napkins for my son and his partner for their new apartment. I mentioned some of my favorite on-line fabric stores (fabric.com, fabric-store.com) as good sources for fabrics. They chose to use Spoonflower, which I had heard of but never experienced. The fabrics came to me a month after ordering and I was more than a bit appalled as I unpacked them. The fabric was very stiff and somewhat cardboard-like. The print was large, much larger than it appeared in the thumbnail sketch. I immediately threw it all in the wash, as I do all my fabrics. Washing did not soften it one bit. It wrinkles very easily, is off-grain, and is just not very forgiving. I will continue with this project but I myself will never order Spoonflower fabric. The cotton muslin I buy at Joann's is a much better quality at a FAR lower price. read more

I ordered two VERY expensive yards of cotton spandex to use for leggings, and only received a printed piece measuring 34" long by 50" wide due to the UPC code printing on the cut ends, and the WIDE, unprinted selvage edges. This was BEFORE washing and drying! When I sent a note inquiring about the shortage, I received this reply: "According to our Products page, Cotton Spandex Jersey has an estimated shrinkage of 7-10% in length and 1-3% in width which can occur during both the printing process and then again during washing" Needless to say, I shall never, ever, ever order from them again. It's too bad....because the designers are great! read more

The cotton fabric is extremely thick and very stiff and was not expecting that from the description. It broke several of my sewing machine needles. Instead of reqular quilting cotton it is halfway to denim. Other than that I was happy with the pattern overall. Gave low stars since shipping took a long time as well. WAY too expensive for such thick, stiff fabric. Barely useable. read more

Literally the worst quality cotton I've ever purchased anywhere, period. And I sew with cotton a LOT so I know what to expect. I found a print I liked at Spoonflower and wanted to make a quilt as a gift for a new baby. I ordered the same print in the following different cotton choices: 1) Organic Cotton Sateen 2) Cotton Voile 3) Petal Signature Cotton 4) Cotton Poplin DON'T DO IT. Learn from my very costly mistake! All these cottons are terrible quality. The sateen is rough and crispy. The poplin feels like thin denim. The voile is not soft or floaty and could practically stand up on its own. The petal signature cotton is worse than cheap $3 muslin from Walmart. How is Spoonflower getting away with this? Do people just not know better? If you're thinking you can maybe wash it to soften it up, don't bother. I did multiple experiments washing the fabrics: some with a long salt soak, some with fabric softener, vinegar rinses, baking soda in the wash, tennis balls in the dryer, and I even tried using a can of Coke in the wash which many quilters swear by. None of it worked to soften these fabrics at all. I washed the Organic Cotton Sateen more than 10 times and it came out feeling almost like thin canvas. My theory is the inking process that Spoonflower uses probably stamps a layer *over* the white base fabric, which ends up changing the traits of the cotton. Think of it like using acrylic paint on fabric. You could have the softest, pure silk charmeuse but if you put a layer of fabric paint over it, it's not going to feel like silk charmeuse anymore. That's what's going on with Spoonflower cotton. You might have better luck with the jersey, but after $200+ dollars, I'm done trying. Go anywhere else and save yourself the headache. read more

Unfortunately I did not read company reviews prior to ordering from this company. I had high hopes, and ordered over $200 of fabric. I waited two months for this fabric; it arrived with an awful chemical odor, I assume from the printing process. The quality of the fabric is joke...it is NOT high-quality quilter's fabric. It is stiff and I have seen better quality fabric at Walmart. I am used to paying more for genuine high quality quilter's cotton, but this is ridiculous and I might as well have just thrown my money out the window. I am trying to figure out what I can use this fabric for...maybe a dog quilt, that's about it. read more

Purchased overpriced material 5 weeks ago still waiting to print. $20 bucks a yard. !!! Quality down prices up. Customer service nonexistent and quality of my last order was not so great and I ordered second material before I even tried to sew first order. That was mistake. What supposed to be cotton material it felt like I got crisp painted canvas ready to be mounted on the wall not a sewing cotton material, no wonder my needles were breaking like there is no tomorrow, it was stiff and just horrible to work with. You do not get a yard as promised as there is white line with code running all the way through the length of material on the side so you do not get what you paid for. read more

Spoonflower moves at a glacial speed. I ordered a duvet cover a month in advance of when I needed it. I am working on a time crunch because I am moving and have a small window of time to decorate my daughter's bedroom. It's been a month and not only has it not shipped out yet they can't even tell me when it will ship out or give me any status update. I knew that it would take a couple weeks before it would get shipped out but I was not expecting it to be a month and still waiting on the product to be completed and sent my way. To be honest, I don't know what I'm going to do because I'm moving and it's being shipped to where I currently live. Nobody with the company is being helpful in any meaningful way. I don't really want to cancel my order because my daughter really loves the design and I can't find anything similar. But for the amount that I spent on the bedding I would expect there to be some semblance of customer service at least give me a date when I can expect it to be shipped. I think that spoon flower needs to be a lot more transparent before orders are placed about how it will take months and months to receive your order. If I had known I wouldn't have even placed the order and I would strongly discourage anybody considering them for a duvet cover to just look elsewhere. read more

We have purchased several yards of fabric multiple times and couldn't be happier. In reading their reviews, one either loves them or hates them. I think it's a geographical problem. Living in an adjacent state, we receive quick delivery. West coast customers are usually less than satisfied. The selection is wonderful. Never used the custom service. read more

Very sad to say that Spoonflower is not what I thought it would be. While I accepted and appreciated that things might take a little longer with pandemic restrictions et al, it took almost 6 weeks to get my first order. I had ordered fabric, a color swatch fabric and fabric samples. I did not receive the fabric samples. I messaged them a week ago to let them know my order was missing something I paid for and have heard nothing! Granted the item was only $3, but they should make it right. I also have messaged them several weeks ago with questions, which have never been answered. I believe there are other "make your own fabric" businesses out there and I will be looking for those. read more

Nightmare! This company is dysfunctional. I ordered fabric to make quilts for my 2 grandchildren. Instead of the yards of fabric required for the project, I received 18x22-inch fabric samples. I paid more than $100 for this order. The company charged me for the order, but did not deliver anything for six weeks. When I called to discuss the problem - no answer and no opportunity to leave a message to expect a return call. I sent an email with my concerns and have not received a response. I purchased the water-activated (i.e. removable) wallpaper from Spoonflower.com, and it is SPECTACULAR. The quality of the paper was excellent, the pattern was beautifully and professionally printed, and it really does go on the wall fairly easily. I had been researching removable and peel-and-stick wallpaper online for a good week or so, and all I could find were astronomical prices and boooooring patterns. Silly colors. Bleh. Spoonflower has a ridiculous amount of colors and patterns, crazy things you'd never be able to find anywhere else. I've already made a list of the next paper I'll buy for the accent walls in the other rooms of my house. Oh, and my wallpaper was shipped in a timely fashion to Las Vegas, so I didn't experience any long waits with shipping. read more

I have never been so disappointed with an online purchase. First the CONS: It took forever to be delivered. The fabric is stiff like sandpaper It measured only 20x18ins including a 2in white border. You washed it (at least hoping to get the stiffness out)but it became permanently wrinkled, coarse and the color dingy. My $90 was a waste. I am still wrapping my head around what to do with these pieces of fabrics? Trash it. Pros: The designs were in the theme I wanted. read more

It took 3 printings for a company whose entire business is printing to correctly print my wallpaper order - the first time the pattern didn't line up, and the second time the rolls weren't color matched even though they were printed in the same order. Customer service was very apologetic and helpful, and I was refunded my rush shipping costs, and I thought it was all resolved...but now a month after correctly applying my peel and stick wallpaper, it's peeling off. I checked and rechecked the instructions and this is not user error or an incompatible wall texture. It's just not a good product. read more

I've used Spoonflower for fabric for my small business for about 2 years now. Multiple times now they have said they shipped my order when in fact the tracking number just shows a label was made and the shipper never received the package. They fail to admit to not shipping the item and do not take responsibility for the lost package. Most recently, my last order was to ship within 7 days. On day 7, I got the shipping notification. My tracking number after several days showed the package had not been received by the the postal service. When I contacted them they made me wait several more days before processing a reprint. When they did they stated it was expedited, yet, my order is now estimated to ship 9 days after the reprint order was placed. A company with good customer service would immediately process the reprint of the order I placed weeks ago that they messed up/lost. read more

Ok, I don't know why all ya'll gettin' your panties in a wad about the service. I was skeptical after reading all the negative reviews, but Spoonflower is the bomb! I when I ordered, I mistakenly gave an email that is no longer working so I emailed them immediately with the problem. Since I wasn't able to receive the confirmation email, I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to get in touch with someone. But I looked it up on their site and sent it, hoping for the best. Two days later (a reasonable amount of time), I received an email from Sara D. that she had fixed the problem and that my order was being processed. I got an email 8 days later that my order had been shipped and I received it today, 3 days after the email. It was definitely within the time frame specified. Yes, the fabric is a little stiff because of the inks they use to PRINT ON DEMAND. That's partly my fault because I chose the cheapest available, the Petal Signature Cotton. Upon reading further, I should have chosen the Cotton Poplin, which is a little lighter weight and finer weave for a little more $$. Duh. But it's for masks, so no biggie. I'm sure after a couple of washings it will be fine. Yes, it's expensive, but it's CUSTOM PRINT ON DEMAND and it's so cool that you can actually design your own if you don't like the selection. I may do it next time, but I wasn't willing to spend the time to do it this time. The bonus was that they had all their fat quarters 50%off so it was a win, win! Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. So quit whining. read more

The minky is super soft and very brightly printed. Was very happy with it. Printing fabric as ordered in the United States. The designs are by independent artists who are paid a good commission for each sale (far better than traditional fabric companies pay). Covid19 knocked them down but they added more staff and machines, all while keep them safely distanced. They've caught up and shipping times are sometimes under a week now. There are over 2 dozen fabric bases to pick from and I've seen several very high end companies (baby bedding and swimwear for example) using the fabrics and getting rave reviews on the quality as well. read more

Been waiting for over 2 week and package came they shipped incorrectly so now package was returned to sender. This was a pre paid custom order for a client. Has there ever been a company that you were really excited about, and to whom you became a very loyal and devoted customer for years? Did you enthusiastically recommend them to both friends and strangers, and do thousands of dollars of business with them? And then did something happen that made you realize your loyalty was misplaced? That recently happened to me with Spoonflower. I have been an enthusiastic customer of theirs for seven years, and have brought them thousands of dollars of business, both in terms of all the fabric I have purchased of my own designs, but also via the countless sales I have made on their marketplace to other customers (of which I make 10%, and they make 90%). Recently, in planning a trip to Europe, I thought of a new accessory design I wanted to create and bring to a rare networking opportunity. So on April 6th I ordered several yards of my own fabric, and chose the $28 guaranteed shipping option, in order to receive it by April 14th. This would give me enough time to sew the items I had in mind before I was due to leave on April 17th. When completing my order I simply used the default saved mailing address I always use for my Spoonflower purchases, which happens to be a PO Box. No message alerted me that this was a problem. So if I had stopped to think about it, I would have assumed that Spoonflower uses one of the USPS rush shipping options for their guaranteed deliveries. I did not hear back from Spoonflower until April 12th. Late in the afternoon they sent me an email saying they could not send my order to my PO Box because they use FedEx, and they needed my street address. I provided it, but by this time it was already too late to deliver my order by the "guaranteed" delivery date of April 14th. I was notified that instead it would arrive at my house on April 17th, AFTER I had already caught my flight to Europe. Now comes the worst part of this story. I wrote several notes to Spoonflower, pointing out the problem: that my order would arrive too late to be any good to me. I asked why their website doesn't do what any modern e-commerce site does, and notify the user if they cannot deliver to the selected shipping address? It is standard practice nowadays to not even let the customer complete the purchase process, if the address won't work for the shipper the seller uses. Failing that, why didn't they contact me soon enough to do something about it? But the most upsetting and disillusioning thing is that THEY NEVER REPLIED AT ALL. In addition to the emails I sent them I also submitted a new inquiry using the "contact us" form on their site. But they just ignored me. So I not only wasted $28 on "guaranteed" shipping that did not deliver on the guaranteed date; I not only spent $$ on fabric that I cannot use for the intended purpose; I not only missed out on a rare networking opportunity in Europe - but a company to whom I have been a devoted customer for seven years chose to JUST IGNORE ME. That goes so far beyond bad customer service that I'm not even sure what to call it. I found this entire experience so disillusioning and disappointing that I am considering trying to find a different print-on-demand yardage company to give my business to instead. I'm giving 4 stars for customer service. I'll explain the -1 star first, then explain the +4. I ordered some wallpaper and quickly had to cancel it because I wasn't aware of the 4-6 week wait time due to COVID until I got the confirmation email. Could have easily been my fault for not reading carefully. I messaged them right away within 5 min of making the purchase. I got an automatic reply that it would take 2-3 weeks to respond to my email. I was charged for the wallpaper the next day. In fact, the wallpaper got delivered before they read/responded to my email. I was getting ready to return it and email again, but one of their staff finally responded to my email. They apologized for not seeing the message sooner, and gave me a full refund. They also said to keep the wallpaper! That's customer service. I will gladly use them again (when I know I have 4-6 weeks to wait) because of this service, and also because of the quality of the wallpaper itself. COVID is affecting many businesses in this way, making efficiency of communication and delivery harder. While I did have to wait in no man's land for 4 weeks, in the end they sorted everything out. Concur with the other reviews about customer service. When I realized (30 min after I put my order in) that my fabric would take 2 months to come in I wanted to cancel my order immediately. Well you can't get anyone........not by email nor phone. But you can believe that 24 hours later the charge hit my credit card. They are using the excuse of the virus that they can't contact people. What nonsense. People can work from home and answer emails and answer the phone. It is an absurd and frankly cowardly reason to use for what is just BAD customer service. I ordered some fabric for masks online during this pandemic. Pricey but worth it. Joann's didn't have any fabric I liked. The selection at Spoonflower allowed me to personalize masks for family. I had a couple of issues with my order. (1) I didn't see where I could utilize the 10% discount for first purchase and (2) I meant to order a slightly smaller print. I couldn't correct my order online within mins after, which was disappointing, so I contacted *customer service* via email. It took them a week to respond due to the surge in orders, but when they did respond they went above and beyond in resolving my issue! Really happy with their service and my fabric. read more

I am a long time customer and have never been disappointed with the products or the delivery time. I placed an order in April along with about a bazillion other people. Looks like I wasn't the only one who wanted to make custom masks early on. There were delays in the delivery time but Spoonflower sent emails to keep me informed. I've placed two orders since to buy the pre-printed mask kits. This is the best idea for masks - I bought kits for kawaii sushi for my sushi loving granddaughter, Golden Girls for my best friend, Dungeons and Dragons for another granddaughter. My second order included masks for me. These are extraordinary times and patience is important. I think that it is worth waiting for customized fabric. If I didn't want to wait I could buy from the local fabric stores and I have. But I wanted special, I wanted fabric that said something to me, and would let the recipient know that I was thinking of them. Spoonflower made me happy and now we are making my friends and family happy. Sending a great big "Thank you" to them. read more

I Love my fabric from spoonflower but I feel with the pandemic they are using that to be late with orders. I ordered and found that when the time was up to ship they used that to ship even later that makes me upset because I can't tell my customers that. I had printed fabric samples made on the linen-cotton canvas from my uploaded photos and the service and products are excellent. I even got help completing my purchase during the weekend when I had trouble. The samples came very quickly, and the price was quite good. I haven't made larger purchases, but I'm very satisfied with what I have done with Spoonflower. read more

I purchased some fabric from them about 4 years ago for a baby quilt. The fabric was ridiculously priced at 18.50 a yard so I told the mom to be I would only be able to purchase one yard and would design a quilt using the one yard as the inspiration fabric. The quality wasn't quilt shop quality but it was okay. Fast forward to October 2020. Same mom to be chose another fabric from Spoonflower. This time I was horrified by the price for what they said was cotton poplin of 22.00 a yard. Because she is a relative I said ok. I purchased 2 fat quarters at 12.50 each and a one 8 inch square for 8.00. When I finally received the fabric the quality was terrible. It was stiff and definitely NOT cotton poplin. It feels like Printed Treasures, a printable fabric sheet used for making picture quilts and quilt labels. The pictures of the fabric repeats were deceiving as well, so I only received 2 of each of the theme print for each fat quarter. I attempted to contact them with no success. I received a promotional email about 2 weeks later for half off fat quarters. So I ordered 2 more. Now I'm up to 45.50 plus shipping for 1 yard of fabric and 1 8 inch square. That doesn't include the good quality coordinating fabric that I had to buy at a quilt shop for the rest of the quilt. The colors are dull and muddy and I'm hoping that it washes up ok. I definitely would never purchase anything from Spoonflower again. I have told 2 more people who wanted fabric from them for baby quilts that I won't use their products because of the outrageous price and very poor quality. read more

I was very excited when I found their wallpaper. However ordering their wallpaper is something else. I wanted to purchase almost $3k worth of product from them. When I placed the order I received an email saying that the calculator that they have on their website doesn't really work. I asked if I could speak with a customer service representative and was told they don't speak to customers over the phone and sent me an equation to figure it out. I begged them for help, not wanting to make an expensive, unreturn-able mistake, but they refused. I would thing a $3k sale would have given them reason to call, but they wouldn't and I bought wall paper from someone who actually provides customer service. read more

I have to agree, Spoonflower has the WORST business practices I've ever seen. Completely unresponsive and unprofessional and unacceptable! I ordered fabric from them on April 11 and of course I was charged immediately. Here we are May 1 and no fabric. I was told the ship date was April 24 but status shows that it still hasn't shipped. I've emailed them and called but no courtesy of a response. My suggestion for anyone is to avoid doing business with them. As of this morning I've disputed the charge with my credit card company. Horrible, horrible customer service. At first, we thought we'd hit the jackpot and found a company to print my mom's original designs on fabric that she could use for her company. The first order went smoothly, though shipping took forever. When it arrived, the pattern was too small, so we placed a new order and enlarged the design. The fabric felt odd, but we figured it was just the sizing in it. The second shipment design was perfect, so we immediately re-ordered the same thing. What came the third time was entirely black- the design came printed on black fabric instead of the white. That was odd, we thought, so we contacted customer service, who said it was our mistake. Um, no... we placed the exact same order we had for round 2. But ok, maybe there was a mixup. We tried one last time, and again what came was wrong. We contacted customer service again, and were basically told it wasn't their problem. We offered to go to them to talk in person, and they replied that they didn't offer office hours and there was nobody who would talk to us about the issue. Further calls yielded no answer at all. Unhelpful, unwilling to admit that they messed up, and unresponsive... we won't be ordering from them again. read more

First I will say, the fabric I ordered is beautiful! I know the artist and I adore this particular design that I ordered! And the quality of the fabric is very good also. However, I was not happy with the printed fabric itself. There are huge margins on all sides and those are very uneven. The artist herself told me I could easily get three pillows from the amount I ordered. Well, I can kind of get three pillows if I make small ones and skimp on all of the seam allowances. It's very disappointing as I ordered the fabric to make pillows for all of my family. I don't think I will be ordering fabric again. I ordered a very high-grade of fabric and it's just very disappointing not to be able to make what I had planned on making from it for the cost that I paid. read more

Don't waste your money! I hired a professional wallpaper installer (who had 20+ yrs of experience) and he had never seen such poor quality. The design did not line up, we unrolled all 3 rolls that I bought and even when overlapping the rolls, he could not get the design to line up. This is $600 in the garbage. I'd also like to mention that I purchased the matching pillow sham which was also made out of of poor quality material. read more

There is no customer service at this place. I ordered 8 pieces of fabric which is not only expensive, but took over a month to receive. All of it was cut to wrong sizes so I emailed several times and called the customer service line. I never heard a response back. I will be contacting my bank to reverse the charges on my card. COVID is no reason to not respond to customers. Let's face it: all companies are working virtually and you can have an employee answering emails or phone calls. It's unacceptable. Spoonflower seems like a fantastic idea, but you better hope that nothing goes wrong because their customer service seems to be non-existent. Whenever I ask a question, it never simply gets answered, I get given paragraphs of extra information (which is already provided on the website) and I have to read through in order to find the answer. The answer isn't given first, or highlighted, though I guess it is technically there. I was about to order some wallpaper, but needed to confirm how a pattern gets aligned vertically when they are printing it. After getting a verbose reply that I had to extract an answer out of I went back to order my wallpaper. However over the course of those 24 hours the website changed the items in my shopping cart from being 8' long pieces to 12' long pieces. I'm lucky I noticed that before I went through with the order. I went back to re-add the correct length of wallpaper to the cart, and discovered that they removed the custom length option. There was no warning that this was about to change. Customer "Service" is unwilling to honour my original order. I feel that it was also far from an okay practice to change the items in my cart. They should have been flagged as changed, or just wiped, not quietly changed behind my back. As a first time customer, the website popped up a discount code offer for me if I entered in my email. I did so, and no code ever came my way. Customer "Service" are unable to help. I checked my junk mail folder, and checked my email on the server rather than via my email program. Last but not least, I was informed that: "To better increase efficiencies in our factories, reducing waste and our ecological footprint, we have decided to retire custom rolls for the time being." Not the best thing to be telling us that they realised they can improve the statistics of their factories by passing the waste, cost, and ecological impact onto their customers instead. The extent of my frustration and displeasure is best illustrated by the fact that I have actually written a review of this company, and given them one star. I don't tend to write reviews, and certainly not negative ones, but these guys really messed about with me a little too much and incurred my ire. read more
