We've stopped by twice to buy some fabric for a chair and found the selection to be reasonable and not too overwhelming. From when they opened to now, they seem to by busier and also offer sewing classes. Nice to see an independent store like this do well. I can never shop in peace in this store. I am always watched and followed, and it's not hard to see that other folks are not watched as hard as I am. Maybe it's just certain employees. But it doesn't matter. Freeman's creative has cultivated an environment in which SOME customers get to shop in peace, while others are scrutinized and followed. Surely you catch my drift. Two years later and still loving this small business! They have remained closed to store traffic during the pandemic so far but still have everything online for shipping and pickup. I've used both shipping- so fast, and pickup, which was very convenient and safe. Excellent shop! High quality fabrics that you can't find in stores around here since Thimble Pleasures closed. Really great print selection and independent designer paper patterns. There's a small but excellent selection of yarn, real wool felt, and a small (but growing) selection of craft supplies. There was a lively fabric dyeing class going on and they also offer sewing classes. The owner is SUPER nice and knowledgeable. I'm very psyched to have this kind of resource in Durham. read more

I went in in search of fabric to make a bunting garland, and ended up spending over half an hour geeking out on patterns with one of the employees, who had a fabulous eye. I also love that they keep a range of clothing patterns, including plus sizes. I wish I had time to make all the things I imagine whenever I stop in here. What a gem! The fabric selection is really unique and curated. Nothing like the miles of 70's-upholstery-print stocked at Joanne's (I dunno, maybe there's a diamond in the drek there). I can't speak to prices because I haven't bought large swaths of fabric, but you can buy teeny amounts of fabric and I think I bought 1/3 yard of elastic. Lots of yarns and stuff and there's certainly room for more inventory, but somehow the way it's presented is much less overwhelming. Will absolutely return. read more
