Well color me surprised. Who knew that the best, most authentic Korean food on Oahu is in Ewa Beach?! I mean seriously. When my mom (super Korean, super judgmental about Korean food) kept raving about this place, I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah... But when she inSISted and took us all there for dinner last weekend, I was blown away. Service & Ambiance: Totally reminds me of hole-in-the-wall Korean joints back in Atlanta, where some of the BEST Korean food is. It's like I was transported to ATL or to a mom 'n pop shop in an alleyway in Seoul. The servers could speak perfect English and Korean...a super plus. Pretty small establishment and had a constant wait outside. I think there was a clipboard to add your name to the ever growing wait-list. Food: OMG. Ddukbokki - I don't even like ddukbokki that much but the sauce was delicious! Perfectly spicy and slightly sweet. Kimchi pork stir fry - If you like spicy, then I highly recommend this. This is a staple lunch dish in Korea and Spoon nails it. My brother-in-law ordered this but I kept stealing his food and there wasn't a morsel left by the end. Seafood pancake - Gone. My sister said it's hands-down one of the best she's had. I agree. Perfectly crispy on the outside, hearty and filled with flavor and seafood. Could be a meal on its own. LA Kalbi - Portion was more than generous...and we still killed it. This is a favorite of my husband and I don't think he even said a word throughout a dinner. Kalbi Tang - Definitely has the depth of flavor in the broth where you know somebody put some TLC into this. The kalbi was also tender and fall-off-the-bone. Dang. SoonDooBoo w Fish roe - My mom and I shared this. Destroyed it. The end. Seriously though...I'm thrilled to have my mom be right for once about food. This will now be our go-to whenever we're craving legit, Korean food. It's high time we end a meal saying, "That was so good!" without saying "...for Korean food in Hawaii..." Finally. After spending 45 minutes in line at Target my wife suggested Spoon for lunch. It ended to be great choice. We ordered the Tofu soup with seafood and the Garlic Shrimp. The soup was ordered mild and it was delicious. The shrimp dish also was a winner. The shrimp was Devined and had the shell on. The taste of garlic was mild and had a sweet after taste. This place is . I might be doing myself a disservice by boosting visibility for this place but they're worth leaving a good review for! It can run you a nice bill if you order enough, but the portions are big and the food quality/taste is worth it. Our go-to's are the spicy tteokbokki with ramen and cheese (sometimes extra cheese) and meat jun, but there's a lot on the menu worth trying. It also used to be attached to a Von's Chicken, which made this spot so clutch, but they recently shut that side down. The staff is friendly and transparent about how long the wait will be and they call you when your order is ready to be picked up, which I appreciate. Highly recommend calling at least 30-45 mins before you expect to eat, especially around common meal times. But 10/10 solid spot for Korean food to feed the whole fam! read more

Really want to gate keep this restaurant. As a Korean, their food is legit. My personal favorite is the bibim kooksu. I'm sure I spelled that wrong. They'll take your order and give you a longer than usual, wait time, but then they'll call you back and tell you the food is ready. Came here for late lunch and didn't realize they close from 2-3 so was kinda a bummer bc takeout just isn't as good as it is in those pots. But it was tasty and I enjoyed it. 4 stars because I spent almost $40 on lunch for two with a 20% tip on takeout and couldn't get a side of gochujang when I asked for it after my food was packed up because it was $0.52 and I didn't have any cash on me. That seems pretty dang stingy to me, and I didn't enjoy my food as much as I woulda with that sauce so I think it's deserving of one less star. They are pricier for one but the flavor is there and even when they put the Togo orders together, it's nicely packed and the food isn't all over the place . Very nice presentation in a togo container. Youre looking at about $26 per order but you get alot of food. It's not something I'd order all the time but once in awhile when I get a craving. I have been to many Korean restaurants in my life and this one by far is my absolute favorite. It's a bit out-of-the-way because it is in Ewa Beach but it is worth the drive every single time. It's connected to Vons chicken so with every order we are always sure to make a fried chicken order. The shoyu fried chicken is mine and my kids favorite along with the original flavor. Great authentic Korean food. One star off only because there is always a wait time. I would say that they only do phone orders and make all dishes to order. I made a phone order and was told 50 minutes, if my order was ready before that then they'd give me a call. I didn't get a call and headed to the restaurant to pick up my order at the 50 minute mark. They called as I was on my way that food was ready, about ten minutes out. So it took an hour. I did get a big order though. Spoons also sells Von's Korean Fried Chicken. From Von's I got a half order of the seasoned (spicy) fried chicken and a half order of the shoyu fried chicken. From the Spoons I ordered fish egg soup (I didn't get to try, my aunty ate it), vegetable pancake, seafood pancake, fried seaweed rolls, and spicy rice cake with noodles and extra cheese. The order also came with sides and rice. Everything was great! The spicy chicken was super spicy. The spicy noodles were tolerable for me because of the extra cheese. I can't handle spicy. The shoyu fried chicken, vegetable pancake, seafood pancake and fried seaweed rolls were not spicy at all. All were delicious and was more than enough to feed my household of ten. I have so many wonderful things to say about Spoon! First and foremost, this has now become one of my favorite Korean restaurants! Im just sad that it's such a drive for me to get there. But, its definitely a good reason to drive all the way to Ewa Beach for. Where to start... We came here on my husband's birthday for lunch after golfing and picking up our son from family's house. Our son is only 3 months, so he was in his stroller. The staff was super accommodating in helping us get a table where we could keep him in the stroller and park it next to our table. The food... I am drooling just thinking about it. The sides, not only are they refillable, but they are great! But my favorite dish wer had was the tteokbokki!! Absolutely mouth watering! Wer got it with cheese and it just makes it that much better! By far, the best that I've ever had! As we already knew what we were going to order, we chatted while waiting for a waitress to stop by to take our order. They closed at 9. The food came out around 9:15. The restaurant was still packed full of people as there were others on the waiting list after us. I don't know when or how they decide to actually stop taking people. The food was everything every other five star Yelp! review said it was, down to the person who said their judgmental Korean mother loved this place. Soft tofu soup - best dish on the menu! Tastes like the broth was simmered forever and made in an ancient, passed down pot. Best Korean soup on island!! Mean Jun - tender and thick! Seasoned well and no need dipping sauce - it's that good! Tteokbokki - try it with fish and cheese! Tender, homemade gooey bites of yum!!! You're welcome! I have heard so much about this place. And what a perfect day for a lunch date with my husband and our oldest daughter. ATMOSPHERE Cute little place and must say it was well kept and clean. Love that you have a variety of Korean food, Von's chicken and dessert. All in one place. The indoor seating was closed down due to Covid however, there's a couple seatings outside for you to eat on. We arrived there around 11:30am and to our surprise there was no one there. Lucky us! SERVICE The two gals behind the counter was very friendly. What a hidden gem located at the back of Ewa Beach. A friend of mine had found this place while visiting his dentist nearby. After being here a number of times and knowing I had just returned from Seoul and was going through GOOD Korean food withdrawals he brought me here. Totally enjoyed. Located behind Taco Bell Ewa Beach . This little hole in the wall Korean restaurant was recommended to me by a few friends. I decided to try it during lunch hour on a Monday. We were disappointed that they didn't offer dine in because we were there to do reviews and content. So we ordered ours to go. Heres what we ordered. Spicy tteokbokki (mochi rice cake) with cheese. It was hands down my favorite item. They prepare it with fish cake and everything paired really well. It wasn't too spicy where it wasn't enjoyable. Very good flavor. How did I not find this gem of a place?! I've heard so much great things about Spoon, and even read the reviews, which led me to try them out. Of course, we are not experiencing it at it's location due to COVID, but take out will do. Here are my thoughts: Food - Amazing! It's so delicious and quite fresh. It satisfied our cravings for Korean food. Their food presentation, even for take-out, is on point. I love the spicy beef soup and seaweed soup. DELICIOUS!!! I mean everything we ordered was . Staff - They were so pleasant from the time we ordered to the time we picked up and left. I really appreciate the fact that they called us when the food was ready. I really like that set up. Location - It was so easy to find. Literally right next to Pizza Hut on Papipi road. There are ample parking. The restaurant is so cute. Aesthetic was on point. I used to frequent spoon's in Ewa quite often since their opening. The food is exceptional & above average, however, I am extremely dissatisfied with their customer service ran by high school kids. I placed an order which I've picked up within 45 minutes, then when I arrived they canceled my order by telling me that their policy is within an hour they cancel existing orders, regardless I still got my order no problem, however, next time, they blocked my phone number due to picking up my order 45 minutes after calling, regardless of any errands to run, seems like customer service does not practice any patience, and now I will never be ordering from this place. There's ways around the phone "blocking" but due to the shitty way they let their High schooler cashiers treat their customers, this review warrants a 2-star rating. read more

Spoon Korean Kitchen has a Vons Chicken in there now--I just found out today (04/14/21) because it's been a little while since I ordered food here. This place is a must-go even if you're from out of town like me. It's totally worth the drive. You can never go wrong ordering their Kimchi Fried Rice. I've tried other places, but this spot has the best original taste! I love the original garlic chicken from Vons, so this I believe is a great complement to the kimchi fried rice. They have other good stuff in here, so why not just try them one at a time? Due to Covid-19 pandemic, they are still not open for dine-in--feel free to order inside for takeout--but it'd be better if you order on the phone in advance. Korean food is definitely one of my favorites. To be honest, it can get difficult finding authentic and delicious Korean food, especially on the west side. I recently had this mad craving for Soon Du Bu (soft tofu stew) and seafood pancake, so onto our trusty Yelp app my husband and I went. When I eat soon du bu I can't do spicy and I want it to have sufficient amount of tofu. My seafood pancake can't be too mushy, I like when there's a little bit of crunch in it and it doesn't fall apart. So we checked out a few other restaurants on Yelp, looking through photos and reading the reviews, nothing promising, and my cravings were growing. Then we both stumbled onto Spoon. Almost 300 reviews and rated at 4 1/2 Stars, GREAT! My husband calls and they're open for take out - Yay! The lady who answered the phone was so nice and very calm. What I mean by this is she didn't seem like she was rushing getting our order, answered whatever questions we had, and she didn't sound like we were bothering her! The restaurant is further into Ewa Beach, near the James Campbell High School. From Kapolei it took less than 20 minutes to get there. Super easy to find and there is a small parking lot in front and on the side. She told us it would take 20 minutes, but because the soon du bu takes a little longer to cook, we waited a little bit - worth it! I honestly couldn't take the ride home smelling all the deliciousness in the car. Our order (about $70): - Kalbi & Chicken Plate - Soon du bu - Seafood Pancake - Mandoo Portions are large and we got rice and sides for both Soon du bu and Kalbi/ Chix plate. We ate a good amount for lunch, but for our party of 2, we had leftovers for dinner! Everything was cooked perfectly. They even made my soup mild per my request, but not bland. It still had a very good taste and just a slight (mild) spice to it. I did ask for a seafood version, but that didn't happen - that was sad. However, I did get the seafood pancake and that kinda made up for it. The pancake is exactly the way I like it! Not mushy with a slight crunch. Flavor was there and the seafood inside was not chewy. Kalbi/ Chix plate also was cooked perfect and taste was delicious. Mandoo almost looks like gyoza with the shape and size and this is what I'm usually afraid will happen when ordering "mandoo," I'll get a potsticker. Thankfully, it didn't taste like your store bought potsticker (not a fan), so that was a plus. For $12, we did get a lot and we ate it all. I'd order it again. With the overall great experience we had, it makes up for no seafood in my soup and my not so mandoo, mandoo. With the restaurants moving to take out or delivery lately, most have closed their doors until the quarantine time is done. My go-to Korean restaurant. All of their soups are amazing. I love the military soup but I don't order it too often because I personally try to minimize my processed meat intake. I regularly order the Korean Miso soup and that's usually enough to last me for 2+ meals. The plate lunches are a little pricey but very tasty. Spoon Korean Kitchen is located in Ewa Beach near Campbell High School. They serve quality Korean sides and cooked dishes here, aside from the bbq cook-your-own option. We ordered a few things from the prepared menu. The udon was okay, just like any typical udon noodle soup. This was the first time I had seen a Korean restaurant serving Japanese style udon. According to my friend, the garlic shrimp she ordered was a bit on the sweeter side-good, but not the kind of taste for garlic shrimp she was expecting. The best prepared dish we ordered was the kimchi pancake. The pancake was very tasty and fluffy, not gummy/rubbery like some other places. For the two of us who were not on the lent diet, we ordered a meat set for $49.99 (enough for 2-3 people). It had generous portions of thin sliced beef, boneless short ribs, pork belly, and marinated Kalbi. Most of the meat was plain and needed the salt/oil and sauce to pair with. If you like your meat to be tastier, I would suggest getting a marinated kalbi or chicken. I would highly recommend this set though, if you can't decide what you want to cook & eat but know you want to cook your own. The reason I am giving this restaurant 4 stars is not because of their food (food was great), but really because of their location. For me, good food should also be fairly easily traveled to or accessible. It's part of the convenience for dining customers, in my opinion. I do not drive down this far into Ewa very often. #132 of 2017 Ewa Beach is filled with hole in the wall eats. This one, however, sticks out like a sore thumb among the rest. And that's a good thing. It's summer. It's hot and we were hungry. We remembered a sushi spot but when we got there it was gone. Replaced by a Korean restaurant. Being with a Korean gf of course we were going to try it. When you step in it's nothing like i expected. I thought it would be the usual small town restaurant, kinda drabby. Not so. It was actually nice. We were greeted warmly. Waters were brought quickly with the menus. Bon chans soon after orders were placed. I soon learned they have many more bon chans but bring out about 8 that best match dishes you ordered. So, don't see something you like, you could ask if they have it. The 2 girls serving us were nice and pleasant to deal with. They were polite to my son too making him feel respected.. We asked for more kim chee and the marinated potatoes because we knew that would not be enough. When we ordered the spicy, soft tofu stew we said we like it really spicy. Most of the time when we say this it gets close to what we mainly want. This came as spicy as they way we wanted it. It was so good. We could tell there was care that went into the preparation of this old Korean standard. Eat it with rice, and it's complete especially on a cold day. This wasn't a cold day. The unagi here is some of the best I've had. Loved the amount of taste it had. It wasn't too soft either but still had some firmness. Delicious with the rice and the accompanying bon chans.
