Kimbap original

We ordered take out after our evening hike and it was ready when we got there. A cozy little restaurant with a bunch of patrons. The food smelled so good in the car. Everyone enjoyed all the dishes. Mom thought it was the best meat Jun she has ever had on the island. We will be back for more.

Great hole in the wall mom and pop shop. My family was kraving traditional korean food and not the usual hawaiian plates and this place served it up properly. The bonchon was kimchi, bean sprouts, radish, and krab salad and was very good. We ordered several dishes all which hit the spot. Fish jeon: marinated fish and dipped in egg before being fried. Soft and slight crunchy edges served with a dipping sauce. First time having this and was not disappointed. 10/10 Kalbi: traditional marinated beef short ribs served over onions. Tender and tasty 10/10 Hot stone bibimbap: beef, veggies and rice served in a hot stone with gochujang sauce and the rice gets crispy. Very delicious 10/10. Seafood tofu soup. Full of shrimp and octopus and a egg dropped in the middle while still boiling, quite flavorful. 10/10 Being a Korean from Los Angeles this place held its own and I will 100% be back next time I am in oahu. As long as you are ok with a no frills super casual restaurant this place will hit.

Spoon is one of those shops where you bring Korean people and they actually approve of the Korean food options. It's yummy, it's authentic, sure there are others that give you more or is cheaper, but this food is true to its origin, and tasty. K pop blasting, tons of noodles and deep fried options, all done tastefully well and not overly salty or oily. Deep fried cheese balls were amazing. Cold noodles were devoured, bibimbap was great, ban chan were yummy and the couple sitting next to us having a bingsu looked like they approve. All one sized meals, fresh lemony water for patrons, I will visit again and try something new. Younger staff members were kind and informative about the food options.

The mango bingsu

My husband and I were out in Ewa Beach area and decided to try something new, and we were so happy we did! This restaurant is small and tucked in a little shopping center with other well-known restaurants around, but I promise you, you have to give this place a try! Upon walking in, the menu is on the wall. After you order, you can get a cup of water and find a seat (seating is very limited, with only a few tables). The girl who took our order was so sweet and explained that it might be about a 10-minute wait because the food is made to order. My husband and I ordered the mandu ramyun, the mixed cold noodles, the pork kimbap, and the mango bingsu, and everything was AMAZING! I've had a lot of Korean food growing up with many Korean friends, and my husband has been to Korea many times, so we've had our fair share. The minute my husband took a bite of his mixed cold noodles, his words were, " Oh fuck, that is so good. OMG." As we kept eating, the kimbap came out, and we took a bite, and our eyes grew so big because we knew it was freshly made, super fresh, and so crisp and delicious! Our order of favorites is the mixed noodles, the kimbap and the mandu ramyun. Our mango bingsu was made when we told them we were about finished with our meal. They brought it out, and it was a mountain of the lightest, creamiest shaved ice, piled with juicy mango. It was so good, and so refreshing after our meal. When you're done eating, there's a place to place your dirty dishes as well, and they come and wipe down the tables after. All in all, we are definitely coming back again, even if it's all the way in Ewa Beach! Before we left, my husband told me, "damn, that was so good, we need to bring people here when they visit us." LOL I've never heard him rave about a place as much as he did about this one, so I know it's a place we will revisit!

Kimchi Fried Rice (김치볶음밥)

I don't frequent the Ewa beach area much but I happened to be stationed out there for the day. I was craving some Korean food and hopped onto yelp to find someplace. I came across this restaurant and I'm so glad I did! The food was fantastic. My partner ordered the kimchi fried rice and I had the meat jun plate. The fried rice had the perfect balance of savory and spicy. The meat jun was thick and had great flavor. So many places serve paper thin meat jun and it was so nice to have meat jun with some substance. The food took a little bit but it's totally worth the wait. The staff is very friendly and parking is plentiful. I highly recommend this spot. Aloha!

This restaurant is counter order and seat yourself style. A nice sized restaurant with tables spread out so it's not so much of a cluster. The cashier was super friendly and the food was great. Some of the things that we wanted to try wasn't available at the time so that was a bummer. But the food that we did get was great. I really like the kimchee soup. Tons of flavor. Meat jun was great too. You didn't even need the sauce. Can't wait to go back!

We didn't have a server, it's an order and seat yourself spot but our cashier was nice. Food was good, it was all of our first time there and we were all satisfied with the food we ordered. The meat jeon didn't need a sauce. They have a nice big table we sat at and they let us finish up some work there. We were a little sad the bingsu machine wasn't operating at the time we were there. I was excited to try. Overall it was a good experience and we would go there again!

Other than the slightly rude cashier/order taker, this was a pleasant experience. The food was great. The seating is only 6 tables but seems bigger. I would recommend the Spicy pork plate and the Tteokbokki with ramyeon.

I went to the original Spoon - maybe two years ago. Now, they're Spoon Bunsik with a new menu. I don't even recall what I had. I walked in just as they opened, at 1100a, and ordered Bi Bim Bap for takeaway. I was given a wait time of 10 minutes. Well, they received a few phone orders subsequently...so I was lucky...but it took almost twenty minutes to get my meal. Bi Bim Bap is a bellwether menu item for any Korean restaurant and it mostly delivered. The taste was fine , though more sesame oil would have made it even better, but the beef portion was small. Gochujang sauce was okay. Open from 11a till 8p Monday thru Saturday. A few storefront stalls for parking - but there is the adjacent strip mall and the Ewa Beach Shopping Cemter across the street.

Decided to try Spoon Bunsik, a Korean restaurant in Ewa Beach, recommended by friends. The restaurant is small and clean. Walk up to order and pay from the menu on the wall. There are also samples of small bites in the covered glass case by the cash register. I started with the stone pot rice/bulgogi vegetable entree. It comes with 3 sides of spicy takuan, Kim chee, and chop chae. We also tried the cheesy tteobokki (spelling?), which was delicious! We also tried the spicy Kim chee deep fried musubi. Ono! The dessert was bingsu, which is a variation of shaved ice, but finer, lighter, and not overly sweet. We tried strawberry and oreo cookie. The strawberry was more on the tart side, while the oreo cookie was a little sweeter. If you want a sweeter bingsu, you can request condensed milk to add to your dessert... Overall, a great dining experience, friendly and quick service, and delicious food! Try it!

The food here is soooo good! It is neatly packed and appealing to the eyes as well. One of the best meat juns I have ever had on island. The staff is friendly and the store is very clean.

Had a craving for some Korean food and decided to finally go to Spoon Bunsik after having only gotten takeout from them in the past. Came on a Saturday and it seemed to be a sleepy day after July 4th as the restaurant was empty. Our win! They are on a limited menu for some reason so that was a bummer. I really wanted to try their black bean noodles on site. With that said, we didn't go away unhappy. After getting the banchan and some fried goodies as appetizers our two mains came out. We got the Tteokbokki with Udon and Bulgogi plate which came with some Ono Japchae. We were not disappointed. This may be my new favorite bulgogi place and my wife loved her spicy rice cake and udon. Ono! We're going to be back and hopefully will get my black bean fix. Love this place!!

Home made banchan

I was happy to find out that Spoon re-opened and reinvented their menu. Parking is limited in front of the store front, but I came for dinner twice and had no issues parking. There was no line for the two occasions I visited. The restaurant only has a few tables so it can get busy, but thankfully I never had any issues. You order at the counter and they let you pick where you want to sit. The service was fast and easy. The food was delicious and I think for the amount the prices are fair. I'd definitely go back again. Especially because its hard to find authentic Korean food like this on the west side.

Possibly because of its upscale vibe, prices are $6 -$7 more than other places. Food was tasty. Portions are large and so I was able to take home my leftovers. Bathroom is nice and clean. The only thing is that there's a large frosted Pictor window making the restroom really warm and muggy. I would recommend this place, but not for everyday dining due to the higher end price.

Besides sharing a pitcher of beer, my tablemate ordered the Pastrami Sandwich and I had the Korean Fried Chicken. My plate came with rice and mac salad, but I asked for French Fries in place of the rice. Alas, I got a plate with rice and fries. Sigh. The pastrami sandwich comes with a choice of fries, mac, or green salad. My tablemate opted for the mac salad. Except for the faux pas on my dish, the food was well presented and prepared properly. Service was fine and the prices reasonable being that it's 2024. My primary quibble is their hours of operation. 11am on weekdays and 10am on weekends is too late for a golf course restaurant. They have a breakfast menu but why bother? Our tee time was at 6:40am so we had to find breakfast elsewhere. My other quibble is the limited choice in beer by the pitcher ... Bud Lite? The restaurant is nice and it could be so much more ... a conditional recommendation for now.

I like that each of us got our own pots for our broth. I chose the pumpkin. I usually get the herbal, which is my fave. I decided to try something new this time. It tasted more like tomato than pumpkin. I'll stick to my herbal the next time. For your meats you can choose: toro beef, beef brisket, pork belly, chicken and pork shoulder. We got a little of everything. You can also get veggies, noodles and seafood from the fridge. For dessert, they have this sago bar. Don't forget the sauce bar. You can mix and match all your sauces. I like the sesame sauce mixed with minced garlic and the ginger onion sauce. Some of the items I got for my pot were: beef, head on shrimp, clams, pumpkin, taro, corn and lobster balls. My fave was the head on shrimp and pumpkin. The corn wasn't too fresh. I loved their Taiwanese shave ice. Unfortunately, they don't have it anymore. It got replaced by the sago bar. I tried the mango and ube. The ube was good and fragrant. Auntie was there. I knew her from back in the day when she had Sweet Home Cafe in McCully. I would go to Aunty's so much where I used to buy her sauce by the jars. We haven't gone back since they changed to AYCA. We aren't really big eaters and neither is my kids. But my daughter has been craving Aunty's so we went today. And we probably won't ever at least not for there AYCE pothot. My daughter who was craving Aunty's is slightly over 40" which now they charge full child price for however she doesn't eat much (like she doesn't fiinish a 4 piece chicken nugget happy meal type). So when it came to ordering, we ordered 4 hotpots (3 adult prices and 1 kid one for my oldest), 1 side of fries which is free. We didnt order a Hotspot for my daughter because we knew she wasn't gonna eat it all and we can't take it home. Coming from a food service industry background. I hate seeing food being wasted. 1. We would get charged for "wasted" food 2. If the restaurant sees food is being wasted it can eventually cause an upcharge in food cost. After dinner, Aunty's is known for their complimentary dessert, which used to be a shave ice of some sort with varies sagos and boba. Now its just a sago bar, which to me is a downgrade too. I used to like the shave ice as it would be refreshing after a nice hot pot and it was light enough and mixed with the sago and boba it would help that sweetness. Now its just straight sago just different flavors. Its just overly sweet pudding. They should think about revamping their menu back to how it used to be. During our time there, you could see it wasn't as busy as it used to be. And they had a lot of take out because they do offer takeout for non-hot pot dishes and its actually reasonable prices. Maybe they should bring back their hot pot takeout too. The broth is good but not good enough to pay AYCE prices for stomachs who dont eat AYCE worth of food. And since majority of it is DIY, paying premium prices for less than service ( we didnt even get our waters filled.) But again coming from a service industry we still tipped 20%. Its making it harder and hard to go out and support local businesses. Going out in Hawaii is already expensive so if the prices ain't right, the service ain't right, the food is par. We might as well make our own or go somewhere else.

Everything was cooked fast, fresh to order, and great bang for your buck considering all the pricy touristy spots you can go to. We also appreciated that they had plenty of healthy options with lots of veggies. This spot is a very typical Asian American cantonese restaurant and every dish we tried was great. In fact, afterwards we put in more orders for take out so we can eat it for dinner as well. 100% would come back. Their menu is huge and I'm sure some things are better than others so I would suggest sticking to the classics and you won't be let down. Steamed fish filet served with garlic and green onions: light, fresh, tender, and delicate with a flavorful sauce. Always a hit in my family 9.5/10 Mongolian beef: very tender beef over some stir fried onions and with a sweet and savory sauce. This plate had a more sweet sauce then I usually am used to but everyone was really happy with it and had no real complaints. 9/10 Curry chicken: not something I usually order at a Chinese restaurant but was glad we tried as it was a very tender chicken dish with a flavorful yellow curry and some veggies. The sauce mixed with white rice was unbeatable. 10/10 Eggplant and tofu in garlic sauce: saucy, tender and garlicky, it was a standard version of this dish and hit the spot. I think it could of had even more garlicky flavor but I am nitpicking and would still get anytime if I came back. 8.5/10 Mixed veggies with garlic sauce: light and healthy and the wok hei really came through. 8.5/10 Shrimp chow fun with gravy: shrimp was not overcooked and very tender and the noodles were al dente. The whole dished was topped with a boatload of savory sauce. Was even better with some added chili oil. Also once you ate the noodles you can add some rice into the sauce to soak it up and enjoy it that way as well. 9/10 In summary, come and support this family ran restaurant.
