The food it generally good here but the service brings the place down a notch. They take reservations but it can still take 20 minutes to get a table and hostess staff is poor. Your food comes out lightning fast which is good, especially for the all you can eat option. But you can tell its rushed and they haven't put the time into each dish to make it great. Sushi isn't the best in Oakville but its fresh enough and affordable. Thai food is fine, but I typically go for the sushi and get my thai food from Thai Siam close by. I've eaten here several times (about a dozen over the last 2 years). The service has decreased steadily and significantly. The food is inconsistent. The location on Trafalgar is better than the location on dundas/neyagawa. The sushi is good and the most consistent. However be prepared to wait forever for items and good luck finding a server. Perhaps they're chronically understaffed? Take out experience (for sushi) was a nightmare. I tried once and they messed up my order so bad. It seemed as though they tried to substitute less costly sushi orders and had hoped to charge me for full price. You are best off ordering it a la carte and paying extra (which is what I did), but double check your order in case they add a bunch of California rolls instead of sashimi or golden dragons. We went as a family of 5 ranging in age from 16-71. First I ordered green tea, the cup was a coffee cup with the name of an unknown coffee company stamped on it and a big chip on the top of the cup, it was immediately sent back. The food came quickly but there was nothing that we had ordered, we tried to send it back, but the waitress told us to keep it. It was cold and greasy. I ordered teriyaki chicken and it was raw in the middle. I ordered seafood fried rice, I ended up getting plain, hand rolls were falling apart. The crispy fried beef was overcooked as were the beef gyoz. The wasabi that was on our table had turned from the normal green to brown with a crust on the top, it definitely wasn't fresh. AMAZING FOOD LIKE NO WHERE ELSE. Great selection, great quality. If you want to go out with a couple of friends - especially friends who don't like sushi but you do, this is the place to go since it offers Italian dishes as well. For example, chicken/veal parm, spicy spaghetti, steak and lamb - all so good. The service is also fantastic, you can tell they really care about your experience. So if any issue arises, do not be afraid to tell your server, they go above and beyond to accommodate you. The price is higher than your usual AYCE restaurant, $19 for lunch & $29 for dinner, but if you want to be satisfied by the end of your meal then go here! Highly, highly recommended. They even offer sashimi for lunch, which is so hard to find. Trust me, I have never experienced food like this before. Every aspect of their menu is delicious, you can't go wrong. If you don't like one thing, it's no problem - it's actually an all you can TASTE menu, meaning you have nothing to lose if you're unsure. Perhaps just ask for a smaller portion so you don't carelessly waste food yourself. The servers also have many recommendations so use them to your advantage. For me, I've been here many times so I recommend: escargot, mango salad, grilled salmon, mango chicken, peanut sauce chicken, red curry shrimp, calamari (nothing else compares), coconut shrimp, steak ravioli, seafood casserole, Chinese broccoli in oyster mushroom sauce, garlic shrimp, pepper beef ... I'm getting so hungry listing this. If you're going to come, make sure to book a reservation so they know to expect you and can therefore prioritize you over walk-ins, especially on Friday and the weekends. But I suggest going on a weekday so that you get better service in the sense that food comes out faster and your waiter will be more attentive. Not that it's drastically bad over the weekend, they're just so much busier and you can tell all the servers are working their butts off to get everyone's orders in promptly. I've been to the Spoon and Fork on Trafalgar many times and while it's excellent there, this Spoon and Fork Plus is even better. We went on a Saturday night, had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server Erika was great. We thought a vegetarian dish had meat in it and she handled it very well. She assured us that it wasn't meat and was super cool about the whole situation. The vegetarian at our table was really happy. Loved the food, the service and the environment. It's $30 for dinner (for the all you can taste menu, will end up paying 38-ish including tax and tip), but it's well worth it! Great for outings for friends or a family dinner. I've been there a few times now. The worst service we have ever encountered. Drafty cold table by a curtained window. Stood for 8 mins at reception desk and 4 servers came to ring in customers Cheques and ignored us. Imagine the luxury of a fancy restaurant with the shamelessness of a buffet, and BAM! You get Spoon and Fork Plus!! This place feels so classy with its elegant decor, cute serving dishes, beautiful plating, and 5 star customer service (shout out to Jackie, who was amazingly accommodating and patient). On top of that, you have the option to order a la carte or to order from the "all you can taste" menu. That's right; when you're fancy, you "taste" rather than eat/binge. When I heard that, I thought that the portion sizes would be teeny tiny--literally a taste, like they do in Anthony Bourdain's crappy cooking competition show. To my delight, the portions were quite generous. Some are perfect for just you, and some are good for sharing (such as the sushi, sashimi, tempura, flatbread and most of the appetizers). Some of my favorites were the French onion soup, watermelon salad (quite refreshing at the end of the meal too), garlic shrimp, glass noodles with beef, BBQ short ribs, and the butterfish and salmon sashimi (tip: you can order a sashimi sampler if you just can't decide). Been to both Trafalgar and Neyagawa locations, like Neyagawa location more. Dinner buffet (served on your table) is a good value as you can try several small portioned dishes. Have you ever experienced a situation that went from bad to worse? This was our first time visiting this restaurant and most likely our last. We ordered an edamame dish and got a WORM as we bite into the bean. A server was standing right at our table when it happened and grabbed the dish away quickly, and said they would send a manager to our table. We waited to see a manager but no one came to our table. The bill came at full price. I asked to still see a manager or someone in charge and said to the server, "we don't expect our meals for free as we did eat other food, but we do expect to be compensated." Server comes back and says, "what would make you happy, but the best we can do is 10%... basically all in one sentence. As we express our dissatisfaction, she gets upset, raises her voices and says, "fine I will pay for your bill!" ....and storms off. Then a young gentleman comes to our table and says, "we took one of the two meals off your bill and the server will pay the difference." Like really? We stated "It's not her fault, why would she have to pay the difference? This must be a common practice.... Which isn't right. This guy showed little empathy towards the situation, and tried to make us feel guilty by telling us the server would pay for the losses. We ended up paying for the bill and got the owners information to call back. What would you have done? This whole situation could have been resolved by a simple apology and a decent discount. We were incredibly impressed with the amazing quality at this restaurant. Japanese, Thai and Italian sounds like a weird combination of cushiness, but in this restaurant it works. We had the All You Can Taste dinner menu. The timing of items being served was very unpredictable, ranging from poor to excellent. While the menu was intriguing and had great variety, the items we ordered were mostly mediocre, with a few only being what I would call edible. There were no standouts or choices to recommend. In summary, this restaurant is way overpriced relative to the quality of the food. Three people, no alcohol, $160. One reason our total bill was so out of line: The waiter never advised us that each pop was costing $2.25 - despite the fact that he was continually encouraging consumption. Multiply by four per person and you get the picture. When we got the bill and the pop issue was raised, the waiter argued with us, saying he had told us each pop was a separate charge. Fabrication. We were shocked. All three of us knew with certainty he had never mentioned it. Chances I would return to Spoon & Fork? Zero percent. read more
