Behind Closed Doors is a cool downtown "speakeasy" experience. Each room has its own vibe and…read moremusic, which makes it feel like you're discovering something new as you move around. The drinks were solid, and the overall atmosphere was definitely a vibe. We went on a Saturday evening, so it was pretty crowded, but once we found our spot in the Gold Room, we stayed there most of the night. Great music, great energy, and a unique concept. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something different for a night out. Not sure how it took me this long to stumble in here. Parking is what it is downtown so, there's that.

The lighting is dark, intimate, and behind every level and door, there is something else going on. There is an element of discovery in every corner and a new adventure on every floor. Ever watch the movie Tron? There are some areas of BCD that feel incredibly futuristic with neon-lit interiors and a legitimate sci-fi feel in some areas. The areas are ass follows: The main bar with a DJ and a spacious dance floor, the red room with a visualizer setup of big bass and pulsating lights, the gold room with a speakeasy feel and a curated cocktail menu, with the secret room that is a unique space behind a certain set of doors. Most of the music on the main bar is good, the DJs are energetic, and the bartenders are efficient while professional. It's not the easiest place to photograph anything, but the different (hidden) spaces make it a worthy destination for discovery. The one area that I don't love is that they rock automatic gratuity. I do love how diverse the crowd is on the weekends, which is a testament to the city. Drinks are solid, but the speakeasy drinks are the ones that stand out the most. The latter definitely comes at a price, but beware that some drinks may have all the presence but not enough of the substance. __________ My photos: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/behind-closed-doors-houston?userid=ysCBsXWPB-LAiewVS3jZfQ

I rode with a friend to celebrate an Htown Legend in Live Music, Marium Echo. If you have never heard of her, shame on YOU! and if you have, then you know it was already a good time to just hear her sing. Her and her band were phenomenal! Two sets from 830 to 11. I did not drink so I cannot tell you about that but I saw plenty people at the bar consistently throughout the night, so I imagine its decent. As far as space is concerned- we'll its called the Liv'n Room. It's about the size of it, Stage is is front of the bar. Two people deep could actually stand and listen to the music but thats it. Otherwise, people stand or sit on left and right of stage, but it doesn't matter when you have a great sound system and someone that can blow. Top it off, Marium and her band know how to engage the crowd with one of the guitarist playing a mean solo into the crowd. This people is live music at it finest in Houston and don't let nobody tell you different. I plan to come back VERY soon cause this was a great time- and I was home by midnight without any drama. That for sure is a win win.

It was and still is the perfect place to "WINE"-down and grab an delicious appetizer. Perfect to visit if solo, on a date, or with friends or colleagues after work. This quaint lounge setting offers bar seating, high top tables, lounge and booth seating, as well as patio seating overlooking a the beautiful tree-lined street. They also offer a separate room to host meetings or parties. Appetizers are delicious - I ordered their fried pickles and spinach dip. Just enough to hit the spot. For my cocktail, I selected the a classic apple martini (I know, "who still drinks those still?" Lol...I do...nothing wrong with a classic dahling). Great times and worth the check out. Right "upstairs" from Hungry's, this place is a great spot to chill. Self parking is limited, however they do offer valet. No street parking. Enjoy!

The service stood out right away, very welcoming and friendly, and the food came out extremely fast, which was a plus. As for the food, it was decent overall. The wings had good flavor, but the ranch was a bit watery and could definitely use more seasoning. The onion rings were also good, just needed a little extra seasoning to really bring them up a notch. Overall, it's a solid spot for happy hour with good prices, generous portions, and great service.

If I wasn't meeting my travel group (who I haven't seen since last June), I would've turned right back around and found somewhere with free parking and peace. BUT... once we got inside, I'll admit it -- Peachez started acting right. First of all, our server Z was amazing. Super cool, attentive, and made sure our table was good the whole time. The breakfast potatoes? Whew. Seasoned perfectly and honestly tasted like somebody back there loves their job. The salmon croquettes were good, but I'm not gonna lie... they could've used a little more seasoning. Just a touch more salt and pepper and they would've been perfect. Thankfully, eating them with them potatoes helped because the potatoes came ready to fight for flavor. Now the ribeye... LISTEN. That ribeye was to die for. Cooked perfectly and as good as medium well can possibly be. We also had the chicken and waffles, and they were definitely a win too. And the drinks? We ordered four mimosa towers and they were crafted really well -- not weak, not watered down, and definitely doing what they were supposed to do. The R&B saxophonist was the cherry on top because the vibe was giving elegant brunch... but still "don't be surprised if I start dancing at the table." So yes... the parking fee hurt my feelings. But the food, service, and vibes healed me back up. Would I come back? Yes. Would I still complain about that parking? Also yes.

The first time I went here it was allegedly for brunch when we got there the restaurant was empty. They asked if we had a reservation we did not. They told us they had a lot of reservations, even though the restaurant was almost empty. It was around 3 PM. they said give them a few minutes and then we were seated. we sat down and they showed us the menu which was a brunch menu and when the waiter came over, they told us they weren't having brunch now. Houston is the brunch capital. I feel like not serving brunch on a sunday afternoon is ridiculous. We left. I went back again on Wednesday night for oyster and happy hour night . The oysters were good. The restaurant was empty. The happy hour pricing was decent. The service was nonexistent and there was not even really anyone in the restaurant, which is crazy. Tonight I went back because they had R&B live music and it was steak night. My friend order the steak. It was not cooked to the temperature. A bunch of other crazy things happen and I ordered wings. Wings weren't good. I really hate to give restaurants bad reviews, but I definitely won't be going back here. The gratuity is already included in and it shows when you go because the service was not existent. I paid $25 for wings and a water with the gratuity included...not good.

I ate at Norigami Tuesday night and it was great as were the cocktails served up at the nextdoor bar called Hidden Bar. On Tuesday, I tried the Thai Chili Ginger Margarita ($13) and it was great, complete with a hunk of candied ginger which I "gingerly" consumed throughout my drink experience...see what I did there? Next, I had the Three Dots and a Daiquiri ($13) with Rum, Lime, Velvet Falernum, All Spice and Pineapple and it was very similar to one of my favorite tiki drinks, the Three Dots and a Dash, complete with 3 luxardo cherries. To finish, I had the absolutely incredible Golden Laurel ($16) with Gin, Italicus Bergamot, House Greek Botanical Bitters and Sea Salt. It is equally beautiful served with a clear bay leaf and delicious. Last night, I was guided by the friendly bartender to try the Et Tu Banana" ($15) with Banana Bourbon, Spiced Pear, Creme de Banane, Campari and Citric Acid. I was a little worried about the cocktail being overly banana-y but it wasn't at all. It was a fantastic drink. For my last call, he recommended the Left Hand ($13) with Bourbon, Campari, Sweet Vermouth and Chocolate Bitters. Again, fantastic. Both nights, the bartenders and drinks were fantastic. Ambiance is nice with moody lighting. They even have a bidet toilet seat in the bathroom! Hidden Bar is a "hidden" gem, for sure. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
