Had my vehicle towed in after closing. Told them the issue. They insisted they had to perform a full diagnostic prior to the repair costing me and extra $200 on top of an already inflated bill. The individual at the service desk said I had the right to refuse and take the vehicle elsewhere, knowing full well the vehicle had been towed in and what that statement implied. This is not the first issue I have had with this dealership, but found myself at their mercy of which they took full advantage. The next closest dealership quoted considerably less, has talked me OUT of costly repairs on several occasions and has NEVER charged for diagnostics. My teenage new driver saved up their money for months to buy themselves a car. Months! They traded in a car that had transmission issues to get themselves a safe and reliable vehicle. That dealership sold my kid a car that wouldn't accelerate on day 2, we took it in they said nothing was wrong with it. I told them that we would not be picking that car up and my child will not be driving it. So they "looked into it further"... A month, it took a month with nearly zero communication from them. They finally said they'd pay it off and put it up for auction because it was that unsafe.. 10k just like that is unsafe? If we bought this other car, so we did. 1mth in and guess what? The second car is back at the dealership with a check engine light for an acceleration issue. This is for my 17yr old new driver! I am beyond angry and this car was even more expensive. Spitzer, you are awful for selling unsafe vehicles let alone to a NEW DRIVER!!! And I hope the car my kid traded in that had transmission issues that you have listed for over 6k when you paid him $1,200 is safe for your next victim. I purchased a car on 6/22/24. it is currently 9/7/24 and I am now unable to drive my car legally due to delays in getting the title/registration. Do not purchase from this dealership if you are out of state. The dealership is refusing to reissue temporary tags to allow me to drive my car until I get the title/registration despite the delay being due to a software problem they were experiencing at the time of sale, and delays with the finance company not realizing that titles and leinholders are handled differently in Illinois versus Ohio. Don't believe them when they say buying from out of state won't be an issue. Perhaps a bigger issue is that I was lied to about the condition of the car. I was told it had "one or two dings", which i was OK with. I drove 500 miles to get the car but arrived to find it had undisclosed hail damage. As a concession, they discounted the car $500 despite several thousand dollars worth of hail damage. I should have walked away then, but we already had the financing lined up, drove 8 hours to the dealership and needed the car for a new driver. I regret doing business with Spitzer Chevrolet Amherst and definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone else, especially if you are not local. read more

I spent months researching trucks before talking to a car sales person. I was already wary being a female and making this purchase independently. I worked many overtime shifts in order to afford my first truck ever. Amherst advertises with pride how they treat their customers like family and their vehicles go through this thorough inspection. I purchased a 2020 Dodge Ram from Chase. I also purchased a Warranty as an added layer of protection. Week one with my truck and it randomly wouldn't start. Sometimes for five minutes sometimes for thirty. I had documentation of my communication with everyone at this place from Chase to the head mechanic Ed to finally the GM Paul who not only is rude but is also a liar. I absolutely did everything but beg them to please help me out. They kept my truck for three weeks and gave it back stating they replaced the back window which somehow was going to fix the truck randomly not starting. Within 24 hours the SAME problem was happening. I spent a year going back and forth and when it finally STOPPED starting all together I was instructed BY PAUL to take it to the RAM mechanics in Barberton. That was an entire other joke. I know little about auto repair but being an intelligent person suggested maybe they might want to check the STARTER. This is after they charged me over six hundred dollars out of pocket for a new battery and fuse. Well DUH! OF COURSE THE BATTERY IS DEAD AFTER I PUSHED THE REMOTE START OVER AND OVER BECAUSE THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START!! Then I had to pay for a rental because Spitzer had my truck three weeks using up my rental car allowance through my warranty yet fixed NOTHING! As if that wasn't bad enough I was told by the tow truck driver both my front tires were dangersouly dry rotted. I also had two cracked exhaust manifolds. Mind you I drove this truck 4 minutes back and forth to work and no where else because I was TERRIFIED of being stuck!! As it turned out after I had to tell the mechanic how to do his job IT WAS THE STARTER!!! I paid a $100 deductible and it has ran like a champion since. These people treated me like a dumb woman, ignored me, and to add insult to injury refused to make anything right when I reported them to the BBB and the Ohio Attorney General. I will NEVER go back to this place. If you want honesty and not to be treated like royalty until those papers are signed then completely disregarded and ignored DO NOT GO HERE TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE ! I leased a car from this dealership in 2015 and had a great experience. Once I reached the last year of my lease, I started researching to figure out what I wanted my next car to be. Someone from this dealership reached out to me about some good pull ahead lease deals, so I made an appointment to see a car I was interested in and get an idea of the cost. The car I was interested in was a 2018 Chevy Cruze RS in red hot, which they did not have in their inventory, but I was assured that they would work very hard to locate one for me if I was interested. The salesperson I met with was very nice and friendly. She had me test drive the car I was interested in, but the only difference was the color was black. I liked the car enough to talk cost and the estimate she brought me was way more than I wanted to spend. She came back with a slightly smaller payment. Again, a lot more than I was anticipating spending. Then, she offered to get the same car, with the Redline edition - a lot sportier, which was appealing to me and worth the extra money. I agreed to the deal...the car had to be driven from the Toledo area and wouldn't be available till the next day. When I got there, it was near closing and I was helped by a different salesperson who seemed to have no idea what needed to be done to complete the delivery of the car. My plates needed transferred and I had to make my first payment, so he scrambled to get those things taken care of. The front license plate bracket had never been installed (I later found it in the trunk), so he handed me the plate and after checking around with some other people, he said the original salesperson would get in touch with me about getting it mounted. Once I got in the car to drive it home, I noticed it did not have a lot of the features I was shown with the test drive. When I contacted the salesperson to express my displeasure, she apologized and said that when they locate cars, they may have different features than what you see during a test drive. That was never said to me when I looked at the car, or when I accepted the deal in front of me. She offered a couple free oil changes or tanks of gas to make it better, which I declined. Update I discussed my situation With Steve Donat, the bottom line with this dealership is that all they care about is the bottom line profit for THEM.. I have purchased 4 cars from them but they do care about the customer one bit. I feel retaliated against from this dealership just because I have voiced my concerns... Please understand they sold me a car that was worth $18k and charged me $24,440 for it, then turned around and put $4100 negative equity from my cruze into my loan, when I only agreed to $2k negative equity into this new loan, please read every line of your loan papers while in finance, because they will sneak more money into your loan, I have contacted my Attorney, GM, BBB, and the State Attorney general's office. I had the worst experience ever with spitzer in Amherst....I had found car on interenet and was given price and figures before coming there to pick up the car...I drove down night before, 260 miles...stayed in hotel room so i could be at dealership when opened....nothing was right with the deal...they tried to raise price and change everything they had originally said...The finance manager was a complete jerk...and non of the employees had a clue what the other was doing or had said....I wasted money, put 600 miles on my car, and used a vacation day from work for this. I dont see how you all stay in business if thats the way everyone is treated or maybe i was just the unlucky one. Cant rate it cause no negative stars listed. I am a widow with two sons...so obviously have to watch what i spend so was really glad to find the "deal" but only to get there and be taken advantage of. read more
