Tough to find good Mediterranean in the west valley. I didn't have much hope for Spitz because it is a franchise, and that rarely bodes well for food. But imagine my overwhelming surprise when I discovered that Spitz' food is excellent! The wraps and bowls are the thing here. Yes, I know, bowls are not really Mediterranean. But don't let that dissuade you. What counts is the chicken is moist and flavorful, the gyro meat (lamb and beef) is succulent and fresh, and the falafel is right on the money. Flavor-wise, you could close your eyes and pretend you're at a mom-and-pop donner place and you'd believe it. What sets Spitz apart though, are the sauces. Anybody can grill meat. But to put it together in a flavorful, moist, tasty wrap is another thing. So many places serve dry, tasteless donner. But the sauces here are seriously to die for. So ask for them and douse whatever you ordered in them. The Zhug is my favorite. It's an "umami-carousel" made of parsley and cilantro and Serrano peppers and lemon and middle eastern spices. It's one of the best versions of Zhug I've ever had. The harissa is a spicy, thick sauce made with harissa peppers. It's sharp and has a beautiful, almost smoky flavor with a good bit. The Berliner sauce is also just incredible. It's tomato-based but has an almost sweet smokiness and a slight spiciness. It's more flavorful than spicy and goes beautifully with all the wraps and bowls. There are more, so suffice it to say, you need to ask for and try them all. Ta real star here is the fries pita strips with hummus. Ohhh. My. Heavens. You HAVE to try these. Dip the pillowy-soft-but-crisp strips of roasted (or is it fried?) pita into the cool, tasty hummus, then pass it through the Zhug or harissa and enjoy the cavalcade of flavor happening on your Tate buds. Sooooooo good. This also e would make a great "street food" snack when you're feeling peckish and want something that's not French fries. Do it! All told, this is a great find. It beats all the chain places (like Pita Jungle) by miles. The sauces are amazing. Everything is fresh and flavorful. A most excellent experience. My only gripe is an insignificant one: the decor makes no sense. You walk in and it's a mush-mosh of pop culture stuff. They play 70's music and have neon UFOs on the wall. There's lights with bare pink wires all over. I dunno. To me it's like the designer was held back on a leash for 10 years and told to go crazy. I like my Mediterranean places to look and feel like what I'm eating. This place was a trendiness barf-up. But that's just me and I'm not 20 anymore. Maybe Gen-Z likes things chaotic and nonsensical. But it's a tiny complaint about a place that has-refreshingly- some really good and authentic middle eastern food. Very nice owner and excellent service. I LOVE coming here. I'm new to Arizona and to Goodyear, been struggling finding good spots to eat and I came across Spitz a few weeks back. I LOVE their ambiance inside and out, they have misters, speakers with god music playing, family friendly and they also have incredible food. Their team there is always so nice and friendly, never a long wait for the food and it's always consistent. They have alcoholic and nonalcoholic speciality drinks which are FIRE and they also have games you can play too. I highly recommended coming in, showing love and just giving them love. We picked this place because I have celiac disease and needed gluten free options. The menu has a gluten free section and while there, I found out they have a dedicated fryer. A new restaurant in a fast growing town bringing a tasty fresh option in the area. The decor is bright and gives a nice vibe. Lines are long but they move pretty fast. Service is friendly and accommodating. As you wait in line you have just enough time to decide what you want, place your order and they bring out the food to you. Berliner bowl- delicious! I loved my choice and I felt pretty healthy eating it. It was a good size portion too. My friend ordered the Donner basket and hers looked really good. The fried pita chips, yumm! Sweet potato fries- crispy and seasoned well. I loved the dipping sauce... we ordered a small and it was a pretty generous portion. I would definitely return if I was in the area. Spitz is a unique little spot with some surprisingly bold flavors. The street cart wrap and the loaded street cart fries were really tasty and packed with flavor. The combination of spices and toppings made everything feel a little different from your typical sandwich place. I finally got to try out one of the new restaurants over in the GSQ area. Spitz has ample outdoor and indoor seating and is perfect for bringing the whole family. I tried out one of the doner bowls and it was huge! They have plenty of options for meat eaters and vegetarians with offerings such as falafel and chicken. My kids really enjoyed this place as well. Service is also fast. This is the type of restaurant where you order at the counter and they give you a number and bring your food out to you so the atmosphere is casual.
