Spitz consistently delivers, and it's easily one of my favorite casual restaurants to grab a quick bite. It's a new take on Middle Eastern fast food. This location does not have any indoor seating, just outdoor. It has a great atmosphere, fast service, and even better food. Everything here is incredibly flavorful, and I love that the meals feel high-quality and has a modern twist to it. Their wraps and gyros are amazing but if you want a more hearty pick definitely go with the doner basket or the doquitos. Love their creative creations! read more

Been searching for a similar taste from Berlins Döner, and let's just say Spitz marks the place! Almost the same taste as if you were in Germany all over again! I tried the Berlin wrap and it was delish! Ordered a side of fries with it and the seasoning in the fries were also exquisite. Cool little patio to enjoy your food al fresco. One order was supposed to be no onions and the other order was supposed to be with onions and hold the pita strips. First time here last night. The service was nice and friendly. I ordered street doner. It was good but a bit dry in my opinion. Also, most likely I will order it with extra meat next time. However, I was pleased with the meat quality. It wasn't greasy or cheap meat at all. It was good quality meat. Fries was good and fresh too. Bathroom was dirty and unattended. Great experience for takeout. Food was tasty, hot, and ready on time for pick up. I don't know why this location is rated lower than most. Parking lot is pretty small but there's plenty nearby. They have some board games you can play on their lovely patio outside. read more

Spitz founders Bryce Rademan and Robert Wicklund began laying he groundwork for their hip eatery while attending Occidental College. A perfect combination of sweet and savory, this was as good as previous Yelp reviews suggest, but was tragically quite small (see attached photo). With it I ordered an iced cappuccino ($5.25), which was good, especially with a cinnamon sprinkle on top, but quite small for the price. Unfortunately, over half of it was foam--more than expected even for a cappuccino-style drink. The interior was clean but quite busy. I had to wait about 15 minutes for my food, and the restaurant appeared somewhat understaffed, with many tables needing to be bussed and cleaned. Although I was warned of the wait and the tables were cleaned about 10 minutes in, for an upscale establishment like this, I would hope for more consistent upkeep and slightly more staff. For ambiance, this location is located in Americana with a nice indoor and outdoor sitting area. There is plenty of seating inside. Since it was hot, I preferred to sit outside. For parking, Americana parking is an option and the other option is Glendale Galleria which is a short walk.

The first thing I would do at this place would fire the young kid at the register and the second thing I would do is fire, the person who hired him. I walked in and there's three of them talking about something in the kitchen and nobody said hello. No one said hi and when I said hello, the cook in the back just nodded his head and the kid that was helping me at the register did not even look at me in the eyes or acknowledge that I was standing right in front of him. Then he comes to the register and he's standing in front of the register and he starts looking around while I'm talking to him as he's sniffing and wiping his nose with his hands. He obviously has a cold and should not be working at the restaurant getting people sick. When I ordered a gyro bowl. Still not looking at me, he said what kind of meat? And when I asked, what kind of meat is there he just points his finger to the menu. I could not deal with such stupidity and did not want to get sick at the same time and did not even want to spend another word of my breath invested in this guy. I just turned around and walked out without saying a word and went down the street and ordered a sandwich at a better place. I understand these restaurants are desperate for employees, but I would rather hire a roach than this guy they had working there. He is going to be the one reason they lose 5 to 10 customers a day. read more

YAY FOR FLAVOR!! Since my ex-boyfriend took me here a few months ago, I can't seem to stop myself from going. They've perfected the art of taking a usually greasy, garlicky, ethnic cuisine (think Zankou) and making it into a fresh, flavorful, don't-feel-it-in-you-stomach-all-day food. I guess if you add the amazing pita strips with humus or sweet potato fries then you're venturing off the healthy end of things, but they really complete the meal. They also added this dipping sauce for the fries which really takes it to a new level (although it is a bit on the garlicky side). True, if you know Doner Kebab as the greasy mess you eat at 4 in the morning while traveling in Europe, then you may not love this version...but hello people, who wants to eat a gut-bomb when they have to attempt to live their daily lives after they eat?! Loved this place. It's a much hipper, contemporary shabby-shiek vibe inside. It's small, but in a cozy sort of way. Food was great and tasted very fresh. Liked the classic street doner myself a great deal. Yummy, but a bit too deep fried for me. I ordered the falafel wrap and a pomme doner with the pita chips combo. The falafel wrap as my bf puts it is really good and fresh. I'm not a huge falafel person so I'll take his word for it. The pomme doner sandwich was lamb and beef mix but it was gooooooooooood :) I liked the aioli sauce next time I might try the street doner sandwich. The fried pita chip is the best side option ever! What happened to this place? I used to come here all the time. Would almost always order the chicken lavash wrap with street cart fries (was a must!). However, I noticed the last times I ever came here, the food quality had gone down shockingly fast. Quality of the chicken and beef now.. don't even get me started. Prices went up but portions got smaller. Do they think people are stupid? Staff has changed too. If you don't like her job, QUIT. Or don't make your customers notice at least. Last 3 or 4 times my order took FOREVER. 3 of us and it took about 25 minutes for bite sized food. And one of the orders was wrong.. I'm really not trying to bash. I'm just stating the obvious. This Spitz has been my go to Mediterranean spot since it first opened - before all the other locations. This time I was looking for a quick bite to eat. It was about 9:30 when I came in. The team inside had already begun to pre-close. Understandable - I've worked in the food service industry before, and it was probably a slow night for them. I usually get the Street Cart fries with the works. Because they had started to close, I was informed that it was take out only. Not a problem, so I ordered my usual to-go. The thing is, I got home and I had NO meat on my Street Cart fries - AND they charged me the extra $3 for it... One star experience, from a typical 5 star joint. Really disappointed. read more

Oh my god, I would give this place zero stars if I could, but I can't so I'm giving them one star. I can't believe people like coming here. The rude employees here are unbelievable. I had a simple question with a menu item, the guy at the counter seemed bothered and uncomfortable answering my question. It felt like he hated his job and didn't want to be there, I got a dirty look on every single basic question, NEWS FLASH, you are in the service industry, learn how to provide "Customer Service". Well, gonna fall shorts for this one for sure. Happened to find this restaurant on my Google Maps app and you bet, the service did a commendable job. Nothing's been spelled wrong - onto my platter at least. Ah, the place is seriously a fantastic spot to indulge in some yummy food. Try their pita chips and wraps - one of the best dishes on earth. Being originally from Germany I grew up with Doener. I have been craving a good Doener for so long and made my way over to Eagle Rock as soon as I found out about this place. I ordered the Chicken Doener . What a disappointment, it didn't taste anything like an original (Berlin) Doener. The chicken was dry and the tzatziki sauce unadventurous and bland. The Doener was even missing some regular "ingredients" like chopped red cabbage and cucumbers. People might like it if they never had a "real" Doener before. I like this place. The food is solid and consistent, and the place has a sort of young, entrepreneurial vibe that you've got to like. I always get the chicken doner sandwich, with a side of fries. The fries (regular, not sweet potato) are the best I've ever had. Better than McDonald's, better than the Oinkster. The sorbet is also good. The menu is small. The prices are reasonable. Downsides: They always wrap everything in tin foil. Please stop doing that! Bad for the food, bad for the eater. Also, parking can be a pain. Interesting, tasty and a little different kabobs, wraps and sandwiches. Their food is prepared when you order it. Kind of small hole in the wall with stinky parking. But worth it. This aint no Tbell, they don't make it until you order it. So expect to wait about 5-10 minutes to get your meal. The wait is so worth the time. Fresh ingredients, sauces in the right amount, piping hot food. I see they are getting a wine and beer license soon. My first experience I thought it was pretty average for doner wraps and I was not impressed, but apparently you just have to know WHAT to order! I went back with a friend that suggested I get a chicken doner wrap with the spicy feta inside....AWESOME!! It added such a great flavor since I love spice! Now I can't get enough of it, their hummus is also really good. I think that it is all well worth the $10 you would pay for the meal. This place is awesome. I've tried the classic and chicken doner kebabs in both the focaccia and pita wrap. I like the classic kebab in a focaccia the best. It tastes awesome and you can ask for hot sauce on the side to give it an extra kick. Awesome pita strips & sweet potato fries! I've been to 3 spitz: eagle rock, little tokyo, and los feliz. This one has the BEST SERVICE!!! No really though, the workers are extra friendly, enhancing the overall dining experience. Spicy donor, Mediterranean donor, Donor lite w/ falafel, thin cut fries, sweet potato fries, street cart fries, call me fat but they're all good! The only reason I'd ever want to visit countries like Germany (the least interesting place in Europe for me, give me Barcelona or Amsterdam any day) or Turkey (can you say "Armenian genocide deniers"?) is if their food was really anything like the food here... Been there once for the "doner kabob" however will not go back. I have lived in Europe and I have had a real doner kebab and the one at Spitz does not even compare. The Kabob meat at Spitz did not look homemade nor did it taste like it. The bread was not your original flat pita bread which is used in Europe. Do not go to Spitz thinking you are going to have a real authentic Doner Kabob just like the ones in Europe. read more

I always go here for my falafel sandwich but today I had the falafel salad and I must say it's my new favorite. Delicious, just big enough and very tasty. Loved it. The staff is always nice and patient. Unfortunately the menus are located right next to the cashier and he or she must wait while you look through the menu which can take some time, but they are super patient and helpful. 5 stars hands down. read more

And the cheese, too, was not flabby and unremarkable but rather a thick, stretchy, flavorful melt that complemented the fresh toppings perfectly. Refreshing pickles and tomatoes, perfectly tender sautéed mushrooms, and plenty of the signature sauce. I will be back for this burger, and to try his other sandwiches. I do not mess around when it comes to burgers. This one is exceptional.
