We just had our wedding sept 3rd and I cannot say enough about this place. The food was excellent the ladies there are amazing in the office Brooke and Rhonda especially. Our cake was beautiful, the entire ceremony and reception was held here and it went perfectly, I couldn't be happier. I did the whole Package ceremony, food, cake, open bar, invitations, it was all excellent. Just had my wedding there a few weeks ago. I walked into the deal not wanting to go with Spinelli's due to it's location right on busy Rt 1, but my wife and her family saw the potential that I obviously missed and that's where we had our reception. I was nervous about not being able to do any tasting, but in the end I walked away completely and totally impressed. The food itself is amazing. The prime rib cuts with a butter knife. The fish I had was rich and wonderful in a seafood cream sauce. The cocktails were tasty, my DJ Ron Ferris worked with us perfectly and made the perfect wedding music program, our florist Fresh came through in the end with wonderful and beautiful flowers, everything was just perfect about the place and the vendors. Everyone there, the sales office to our wedding coordinator to the wait staff, everyone there had one single goal in mind, to make us happy with everything. They went above and beyond what I expected. If your looking to hold any sort of function, I highly suggest at least giving them a chance. read more

The review is just for the food. I was there last night for a bridal show last night, and you'd think they'd put their best food out to entice couples to have their weddings there. The food was very mediocre. The most offensive item was their crab cakes stuffed mushrooms. The crab cakes were made with imitation crab meat. Why bother serving crab cakes if they're not going to be made with real crab meat? If they can't afford it, then take it off the menu. read more

I've been to numerous functions here, from wedding receptions to funeral memorials. All have been handled with exceptional service and quality. They are always courteous with guests. The bathrooms have been clean. The food has been decent, and the drinks have been poured just strong enough to get you through the night. All the things that get me to rate this a 5 Star function facility. read more

I recently came here for a post-funeral gathering and found the space to be wonderful. The views across the pond are great, especially in the fall. The space is large and relatively modern, it doesn't feel too tired. The parking seems adequate. The food is pretty good, much better than expected on a buffet. The servers were generally good. My Mom is a widow and my Sister & I wanted to take her to Spinelli's for Mother's Day brunch. When I called to make a reservation I was told there was a four person minimum. I explained the situation and the woman on the phone said she would check with her manager and call me back. She called back and said that her manager said no because the computer would not allow it. I call BS. It's horrible they won't allow a widow on Mother's Day. Oh, they said we could come and pay for a 4th at fifty dollars. Really disappointed in Spinelli's. Went today for a family members post-funeral reception and my family walked away with food poisoning. When asked about getting a meal option with no meat or seafood, I was turned away. When my family had spoke about not having meat days prior, we were told "We'll see what we can do"- apparently that's nothing. Kinda glad I didn't eat due to the food poisoning but at $23.99 per person I'm pissed I didn't even have a choice! It's a beautiful hall. When you walk in it smells like Lush bodyworks which is nice. I ordered a cake for my daughters bridal shower. I asked for buttercream filling and frosting. I was disappointed to find out that the top of the cake was sugar frosting. Two of my guests actually said what is this. I called right after the shower and spoke to the bakery manager who told me to bring the cake in and she would show the baker downstairs. I had to freeze it due to the heat and I couldn't get up there for a few weeks. I called back this last week and the manager told me under no uncertain terms that they would not accept a cake that old. I explained that brides always freeze their too tier of cake and eat a year later. She said no exceptions to the rules. I was upset and wrote to the email on website and another manager called me this time pretty much saying they would do nothing for my dissatisfaction. I think $100 for a cake that you are questioning whether it was made correctly should be credited I got married at the Town Line 40 years ago and it holds a special place in my heart. My daughter deserved the cake type and flavor that I ordered The manager said next time I come to get a cake use her name and she will make sure it is done right. I'm a Videographer who shoots a lot of weddings -- maybe 30 a year. I had been to Spinellis a few times before when I was starting out and was always impressed. This last weekend, I was there again, shooting a wedding. With the benefit of having been to most of the wedding venues in Massachusetts, I can now attest that in terms of professionalism, quality of food, organization, glamour, this place is fantastic. The wedding party arrived maybe an hour early. Most venues would still be setting up, would shuffle them off to a back room while they scrambled to get everything together. Spinellis was totally together from the getgo. Everything was in place. I was also pleased to notice there was a vendor table tucked away -- on that note, I was fed along with the guests, really treated as a guest. This may seem like a minor point, but it's really not. Most venues will serve the vendors (the DJ, photographer and videographer) only after the guests have been served, and only the main meal even though the client is usually paying for the vendors' meals along with everybody else. Many vendors forget to even feed the vendors. By actually feeding us a proper meal, and giving us a table out of the way to relax when there is downtime, we're able to focus that much better on the jobs we're hired to do. The food is fantastic, really stellar and thoughtful, from the refreshing sherbert appetizer, to the great caesar salad, to a fantastic wedding cake and desert table. During the photo session, the Event Manager informed the bride of the time when they were scheduled to be announced. But she was also sure to inform the bride that they could take as much as they wanted for the photo session. I've never seen that before. Usually the Event Manager is hurrying things along, rushing everybody so that everybody "stays on time." There, they realize that it is all about the clients. Yet, all of the proceedings moved like clockwork. The DJ, Jimmie Espo, is sort of the house DJ, could not have been more accomodating. He also got people moving, and played a great varied set, with his own mixes thrown-in. The only thing Spinellis is somewhat lacking of is great grounds to shoot video and photographs. There is a gazebo in the back, which is fine (with a nice lake and forest in the background), and a great spiral staircase, but if you want more varied outdoorsy shots, get those before getting to Spinellis. I've never reviewed a function facility before. One might have good food. One might have good service. This one has the whole package. Don't let the website that looks like it was designed in 1986 (with pictures from 1963) dissuade you. read more

I've been planning parties here for several years now and have yet to be disappointed. The rates are reasonable considering the location, though you should book any of your functions well in advance to assure yourself a room. The food is always very good, but the bar tends to be a bit overpriced and under-generous. The rooms are gorgeous and some have a stunning view. What I like best about planning a party there, is that all you have to do is show up with your checkbook. The staff does everything for you and everything is ready to go when you get there on the day/night of your event. I would not hesitate to plan a function here again. read more

I ordered a cassada cake for Easter and when we cut into it it was over the top with rum to the point where we couldn't even eat it. It was so bad. So I took it back today and the girl at the counter said the manager wasn't in yet but she took it out back to the baker and he said it was made correctly. I've had cakes in the past and they were good this we couldn't even eat. So the girl at the counter tells me she would have the manager Marco call me and here I am 8 hours later and I haven't gotten a call. Seriously what kind of business is this. I was there for a baby christening in a function hall this past week and the the food was horrible as was the service. I expected a lot better from Spinelli's since I've attended other events there in the past and was never disappointed. The venue is beautiful and the tables are set up nicely, but the food was bland and tasteless and the presentation unprofessional. Nobody at my table enjoyed the food, most of it went in the trash since the plates were full when the servers came to pick them up. The service was so bad, we got the bread rolls at the end of the meal instead of the beginning, the salad had no dressing--When I asked for some extra, the waitress came back after an hour. The tables were not cleaned, the cake came out long after the coffee got cold.....it was a total disaster. After this experience, I would not consider it for any of my own events. read more

After the funeral of my 29 year old niece we went to Spinelli's for the decompression get together. The food was good but we did have a significant problem. Coming from the cemetery as we did, several people had flower arrangements. As it was hot today, they parked against the wall bordering the pond and left the arrangements tucked under the front of the cars so they wouldn't wilt in the hot cars. All were stolen. When the thefts were reported to staff, the response seemed to be "Not our problem". I won't be back. read more

I recently hosted an event at this facility and was impressed by the quality of food and service. The staff was friendly and accommodating, but I was concerned to learn how little they were paid for their work. This review is largely based on those concerns. At booking, I was mislead to believe the staff received a "generous wage," and like others, wrongly assumed that an 18 percent "administrative fee" represented a gratuity. I was disappointed to learn this was not the case. Instead, as it was later explained, staff members earn a flat rate, amounting to less than $100 per shift (not a generous wage by any stretch of the imagination), gratuity not included. I have hosted other events at similar facilities along the North Shore, and have often been impressed by the generous wages and benefits offered to banquet staff and other employees. It is disconcerting to learn that a small business largely supported by working and middle class families does not fairly compensate or support its own workers. I will be bringing my business elsewhere until management strongly reevaluates this facility's pay structure and starts to support its employees. read more

My wife and I had our wedding reception at Spinelli's this past May. Overall we had a very positive experience. We rented the two rooms on the first floor which included a small cocktail room and the largest dining hall there. Our head count was approx 230 and it was tight, but everyone fit and it was a good time. The food was absolutely excellent (including the cake which was amazing), 10/10 and the waiting staff did a great job being attentive to us and leading us through all of the events. Spinelli's has a great selection of vendors for DJs and Limo service as well, and they help with your invitations and seating charts which made it much easier on my wife and me. If I had to point out a few things they could improve on, one was communication with their wedding organizer. There were a few times throughout our engagement we would call/email her and not hear back for days which was frustrating but she always came through in the end. On the invitations we noticed they had some things spelled incorrectly and we had to make last minute adjustments through an outside party. Finally, we felt as though the staff was rushing out clearing tables a little too early and the bar shut down earlier than expected and there was a feeling that a small minority of the staff members were eager to get out because it was Saturday. Overall very positive experience at Spinelli's and I would recommend them to anyone for a wedding or any type of social function. read more

I normally just get birthday cakes or pastries here. The strawberry cake with the with chocolate frosting is to die for and the presentation is top notch. They have chocolate discs ( you can choose white or regular chocolate) which you can ask them to write happy birthday or whatever else you are celebrating on. My husband & I were married at Spinelli's on November 1, 2009. People are still talking about the meal. Everything was absolutely perfect and they made the entire planning process so easy & stress-free! I do agree that they should offer tastings for functions, but after my experiences there, I can assure you, you will not be disappointed. We used them again on March 10, 2013 for my son's baptism. They catered our party for 50 people at my church hall & again they amazed me. Everything was delivered on time, set up perfectly and we had more than enough food leftover! I called Spinelli's the day before Easter to ask if there were Birthday cakes on hand (knowing it would be a busy day.) The woman hurried me off the phone pretty much saying that there were cakes, but that I would have to come down because there was no special orders on this particular day. UnderstandabIe. I drove to Spinelli's picked a number and patiently waited my turn in the crowd. A young girl with a scowl on her face called my number. I asked if she had any birthday cakes and she pointed annoyed at a case with specialty cakes. I asked if she had any traditional yellow cakes with buttercream and she said no. I pointed to the Easter cakes (which matched this description) and asked if there was any way to write Happy Birthday on one, to which her response was "those are very expensive". I was horrified. On what planet is that an acceptable response to a guest? Who says that? I drove to D'Orsi bakery in Peabody where I purchased a birthday cake, a pizza chiena, A coffee cake and a calzone. I had not eaten food from here in a couple of years until recently. We had a big event and needed a lot of food. Spinelli's had a nice selection of fruit, salad, and pasta dishes. The brocolli and ziti was great. The sausage with peppers and onions wasn't bad either. I went for seconds, thirds, and fourths. This review is for the food I got from the bakery and not so much for the actual function hall part. I had wanted to order a cake for my grandmother's birthday, which happens to be Christmas Eve. I called about two weeks ahead of time to place an order for a small strawberry shortcake, since that is what she kept insisting on wanting to have, and I figured I would get it at Spinelli's rather than Market Basket or somewhere else. I was surprised to find out that I wasn't too late for ordering (I know some places need what seems like forever advanced notice for holiday orders), so I placed my order and called it a day. When I went to go pick it up, I was shocked at how nice it came out. My grandmother really liked it and it even came with chocolate covered strawberries on top, which is a nice touch. After paying for the cake, we went over to the bakery to pick up some extra pastries, especially since we were already there and my boyfriend has never had anything from Spinelli's. The only thing I didn't really like was the fact we were rushed into getting our order in and the lady didn't really seem to care about answering our questions and seemed like she just wanted us to hurry it along. I understand that it was Christmas Eve, but still, be a little patient with your customers trying to figure out what they want with a bunch of people rushing around them doing the same thing. read more
