    YUM!!!
    Eskimo Y.

We made the drive to try Spice Venue. It was kinda dark outside and all the other signs are lit up so it was difficult to tell but it's up on the 2nd story of the building on the right. Even when we walked up the tiny on the windows made it look closed but we saw a few heads so we continued on. Food was great, we loved the dishes and naan, we had enough for leftovers the next night, just as delicious! Ambiance leaves a little to be desired, don't let that deter you from trying it out, def recommended

Today I had the orange banana, mango smoothie, and for a hot day like this it went down. Perfect Spice venue Transit life let's go.

This place lacks consistency! At times it's great at times it's bad. I think they don't have a fixed cook!

Tried again, good basic diner fare…read more On my re-trek of breakfast spots, decided to give this place another try as it's outside my normal travel zone and the previous experience was lacking. Inside is nice, homey and marches the vibe of a classy New England breakfast dining space. Server was manning the counter and was attentive and helpful. Menu took pride in its Benedict's, and I saw they did a biscuit and gravy. So I opted for their biscuit Benedict to see how that fared. With a side of corned beef hash. Food came out quickly, took pics and dug in. The Benedict was an assembly line Bennie. Biscuits were freshly made in house but salty, eggs perfectly poached and hollandaise was savory. Sausage was a generic sausage patty, and hash browns were delightfully crispy potato pieces. The corned beef hash was cooked well, loaded with lots of meat and very little potato. Which was good, cause the potato was undercooked. I was also overcharged for the corned beef hash, charged the full price when it should've been the add on price. Was 5 bucks additional, but still not cool. As a diner, it checks all the boxes. Good cheap food done well enough. It's nothing to call home about, but a place to go if you're in UConn and have the family visiting.

Tried again, way too pricy for what you get…read more Been to way too many breakfast spots, so much so that I've run out of local spots to try. So decided to give another go to some places that need another try. The space inside is decorated well, it's very homey and plenty of tables. The server was very nice and had recommendations when asked. I opted for the raspberry beignets and the bananas foster French toast. Food came out quickly, and I took my pics and dug in. The raspberry beignets were pretty much donut holes covered in raspberry and vanilla sauce. The raspberry filling was there, but wasn't very pronounced. For 3 bucks a beignets, it's very expensive. But it was sweet enough and fried fresh. The observant will note that the French toast looks a lot like pancakes. They specify on the menu that you can choose either, but either I was never asked which I wanted or I failed to advocate for my preference. I decided to roll with it, since it could be a mistake from either end. Pancake batter was overworked, bananas were slightly warmed up but done so on the griddle. Picked up the onion funk from their home fries, leading to a rather unpleasant bite. Quality issues can be overlooked if the price is reasonable. For 28 dollars for two dishes, the price is way too high for what I got. As a local breakfast spot, there's not many around that area. If you need breakfast and are unwilling to drive another 5-10 minutes for other options, the food is okay and portions are reasonable. It's pricy, stick to the savory, and don't expect more than the basics.

So very disappointed in the Biscuits and gravy. When I opened the to go container, there was maybe…read morea Tablespoon of gravy for the biscuits making it soggy and inedible. The gravy should cover the biscuits so you're not able to see them. Next time use a ladle please!

The place itself is pretty quiet other than the other conversations going on. There is a ramp to get inside with or stairs. Parking is a shared lot with all other restaurants/stores nearby. My western burger was very appetizing. Usually I feel like diner burgers are bland but they had flavor plus everything else. I would like to say my blt was made with salami a piece of lettuce and a tomato and charge over what the menu price. It really bothers me that I didn't say anything earlier and that I tip this person but I realized that I didn't want to ruin my grandsons birthday. Not for nothing but my grandson enjoyed his meal.

Tried again, pricy but not bad…read more Decided to give this place another try, because breakfast. Was only myself and a 4 top of ladies that were seated. Server was more friendly towards the bigger table, because tips. I opted for the peach burbon French toast special, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Food came out quickly, and I dug in. The French toast was oversoaked, leading to an egg ring but perfectly custardy bites inside. The sear was a little too hot leading to some black bits on the outside, but the inside was perfectly cooked. So the chef has technique but lacks refinement. The peach burbon sauce didn't really taste like much. It was sweet and the peaches were firm, but no actual peach flavor. It reminded me of peach pie filling with no other flavor other than sugar. Again, not bad just not great either. The burbon was undetectable, and the ice cream was from a box, not a strong vanilla flavor but creamy and cold. Gave it a nice temperature contrast from the piping hot toast. The dish came to 21 bucks, with 6 of it coming from the ice cream. It's not cheap, but it's not good enough to justify the upcharge nor the price tag of the dish itself. If there was freshly whipped cream, peach burbon sauce that was made to order or at least made fresh then left to simmer through breakfast service then thinned out with burbon when served might've helped. Maybe even offer some protein on the side like a brown sugar candied bacon, then there might be enough done to elevate the dish to the 15 dollar price tag. It's perfectly fine diner grub with a bit of style and pizazz put on it. Perfectly fine for a basic date night with the price tag to match a swanky restaurant. Expect good enough, and that's what you'll get.

No chairs because of Covid, but it looks post-apocalyptic - there's no ambiance to even mention. The customer in front of me ordered with someone who was running orders - and by the time she got to the counter to pay, the girl behind the register didn't know the order. The customer, an elderly person, couldn't remember and I helped her recall her order. When I cashed out, they gave me my order of two cinnamon raisin bagels, and I asked about the blueberry muffins. My question was answered but the girl cashing me out didn't ask if I'd like to add a blueberry muffins to my order! Cause I wanted to! But before I knew it, my card was swiped and it was over. I understand food service isn't a glamorous job - I worked here for 3 1/2 years about 5 years ago. Even on my toughest days, I tried to put on a smile for the customers. It's literally all about the service they receive and their loyalty to the establishment to return. Quality of food is part of it - which the crew in the back has had for *ages*, but everything the customer sees is sad. My motto was that you eat with your eyes, and that means the ambiance and appearance. None of which Bagel One has right now. I hope this changes. I used to love it here.
