I don't understand the hype. There was no one in line, and it took almost 20 minutes to have our order ready. The employees disappeared to the back and didn't emerge for quite some time. Were they working on other orders? Was it only the two of them? AnywayWe figured it would be well worth the wait. We were wrong. It wasn't. Opening up my wrapped to-go sandwich, I was left with the age old question, "where's the beef?" This flavorless and tiny sandwich left me disappointed and hungry. Same with the other sandwiches in our order. Is this a fluke? Should we try it again, or should we stay away?

Sunflower seed bagel, done right!!!! Only place in the state where I've found these.

I used to go to Bagel One all the time when I was at UConn. I did not realize then how good I had it! No other bagel shop compares to Bagel One. Their bagels are fresh and tasty and they have the best flavor selection around. I had a fondness for the sunflower seed bagels back in college (I'm pretty sure our dining halls must have gotten their bagels here as well, since we had sunflower seed bagels every day). The nuttiness, when toasted with just a little butter...it's just perfect. In my adult life, I've never found these bagels anywhere else. One spot had a "sunflower seed bagel" that appeared to just be a plain or egg bagel with sunflower seeds "pasted" all over the outside. No bueno. One Sunday morning, I was out doing errands and just decided to take the ride to North Windham for some bagels. 10 - 13 bagels cost just $10 (of course, I got 13), which is a pretty fair deal. My freezer is now stocked with my most favorite bagel, and I couldn't be happier. In my opinion, Bagel One is worth the drive from anywhere, their bagels are beyond compare.

It's the place to get bagels in the area. As authentic as it gets in this part of the state. Many cream cheeses to choose from and always fast and great service. If you have been having that hunkering for that bagel burger and a Snapple to wash it down with - Bagel One is the only one.

Never any bagels on the weekends, staff is not friendly. The seats have holes and rips in them, pretty gross.

"I love the flower girl Oh, I don't know just why…read moreShe simply caught my eye I love the flower girl she seemed so sweet and kind. She crept into my mind." (The Cowsills) Visiting the Flour Girl Café and Bakery will put you squarely in the middle of a Flour Girl Village with four distinct components. Within the village is the Flour Girl Café at 16 Main, the Flour Girl Bakery at 14 Main, the Flour Girl Country Store at 12 Main, and the Door Yard in a rear courtyard for dining and hosting events between the bakery and country store. Today we had breakfast at the Café and followed it up with a visit to the bakery. A common thread at both stops was the wonderful personality and friendliness of the staff we interacted with. The counterperson at the Café could not have been nicer and her personality radiated throughout the room like a beam of sunshine. She welcomed every new customer as though they were long lost relatives, exchanged some pleasant small talk and then diligently repeated the orders before ringing them up. She was fantastic. The café keeps things humming all week long--open Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 4:00, Saturdays from 7:30 to 4:00, and Sundays from 7:30 to 3:00. Flour Girl Café covers you from breakfast through lunch. Mornings bring all the good stuff: coffees and lattes, smoothies, egg sandwiches, bagels, wraps, waffles, toasts--you get the idea. Swing by at lunchtime and you'll find sandwiches, paninis, salads, burgers and soups waiting for you. Oh, and as a bonus perk, the bread for sandwiches and burgers is made at the bakery next door, so freshness is something the Flour Girl takes seriously. For breakfast, we had a Bacon, Egg, Lettuce, Tomato, and Cheese Bagel ($7.99) and an Avocado Toast (2 pieces) with Feta and tomato ($9.99), Two 16-ounce drip coffees were $3.50 apiece. The portions were large, and my avocado toast on sourdough was fantastic. We sat in the first-floor dining room and took in the pretty interior design of pinks, pastels, and floral color theme. Now, on to the bakery! The Flour Girl Bakery may be best known for its sourdough breads, but the fun doesn't stop there. You'll also find muffins, cookies, scones, their award winning cinnamon rolls, and a rotating lineup of fresh baked breads. And those cinnamon rolls? They spark a full on weekend rush--people happily line up just to snag one before they disappear. We picked up a box of mixed goods, muffins, cake squares, and a big hunk of jalapeno cornbread that will go perfectly with a homemade batch of lentil chili sitting in my fridge. We saw an adorable feature at the bakery, where plastic eggs were hidden within the store for the kiddies to find and cash in for a cookie. It's the little customer service features we saw at the Flour Girl's Café, Bakery, and Country Store that made today's visit so pleasant.

I think there may be a small sign but i heard it several times during my visit - people asking for breakfast! Might be something to reconsider or place a visible sign underlining breakfast stops at 11:30 AM. Anyhow, pivoted to the lunch menu - pesto chicken sandwich was delicious. Did not love the pasta salad, wish there was the option for fry's. Really wanted the thanksgiving wrap but was out of stuck - next time hopefully! I will say - while there are many options for seating, especially with the new accommodation, it's tight. Chairs back into aisles and the table legs don't allow chairs to be pushed in that well. Entrance area can feel a bit overwhelming if it's busy. Staff super friendly and knowledgeable, will continue to come back.

There is a sandwich board in the parking lot next to the employee entrance with the days sandwich options. The shop is small with seating for about ten people. Most of the traffic during our visit was take away. Order counter is on the left with the menu board overhead and available bagels in bins. Place your order and pay, then pick up at the next counter. No paper receipts, but you can have one emailed. For coffee orders, staff will add the milk of your choice, or you can add cream and sweetener at a table to the right of the pick up area. This table also has drink lids, napkins and stir sticks. Online orders are left on shelves by the door for quick and easy pick up. Staff here are very friendly. The bagel selection is creative. I had a jalapeno and havarti cheese bagel with cream cheese. The flavor of the bagel was just right. The cream cheese is very smooth and there was plenty on there. The bagels are a respectable size. Any bigger would be too big imho. The texture is dense with a pleasant chew. I couldn't tell the bagels were sour dough, maybe because of the jalapeno. My SO got themselves a Hot Boi on a prosciutto bagel. To say it was very much enjoyed is probably a bit of an understatement. It was pretty much inhaled and then expounded on in detail. So yes, it was a hit. We both had a Dave's drip coffee which is very smooth. They offer a variety of coffee drinks and seasonal specials are listed on the menu. They all sound amazing. Do recommend this spot.

I'm going to do two reviews for Flour Shop. One is on the Event Page and is limited to what I tried at the Yelp Check In Event. This one focuses on the half dozen bagels and cream cheese I purchased. Flour Shop is a small independent bagel shop, with some limited seating. They also have a robust takeout business. I arrived at Opening at 8 am. The shop was instantly thriving. The Flour Shop Team was friendly, helpful and efficient. I ordered a half dozen bagels to bring home. I asked if they had Veggie Cream Cheese, which is my go to. They didn't have any made, but they offered to make Veggie CC on the Spot. And you know what? It was Top 10 Percentile for all Bagel Shops. Full of chunks of veggies. Great texture and great color. Flour Shop boils and bakes their Bagels. I tried the Prosciutto Special Bagel and a Spicy Egg Everything. They were good chewy. Fresh. The Prosciutto was crispy, which was the way to do it for a bagel. The seasoning for the Spicy Egg Everything was nuanced and tasty. The Bagels look a bit rustic in a good way. The Flour Shop executed the classics well. Great coverage on the Sesame and Everything Bagels. If you live in the greater Stonington area, visiting The Flour Shop is an easy decision. It's also worth driving from away to start an area day trip. 5 Stars
