Samosa Chat

This one has been on my list for a few years now and I'm glad we finally tried it. The location in downtown silver spring near the movie theater makes it a solid choice for some Indian food before going taking in a movie. Here were our hits and misses: Spicy passion fruit: definitely spicy. More spicy from the jalapeno than the sour/sweet from the passion fruit. A hit if you like drinks with a kick! Dalchini: "good" (Highest level of praise from my husband) Samosa chaat: proportions of chutneys and chickpeas all perfect just needed some onions/tomatoes diced on top for texture and it would have been perfect. Lamb korma: thick delicious gravy and they Didn't skimp on lamb. Definitely a hit with my carnivore husband. Tofu chana masala: tastes just like Chole. Can't even taste the tofu as it isn't crisped up or anything it's just in there all soft and paneer-like. I actually wasn't sure about that but I tried it and it was lovely!! A hit for me and for anybody looking for a vegetarian friendly protein forward option . Something to note: There is construction going on so be sure to factor that in when trying to find parking as there are road closures/detours. We were seated pretty quickly and it was a busy Saturday evening for them. The portions are appropriate -- not too little and not too much; you really feel satisfied and it's just awesome they have some dishes with tofu. There's lots of other stuff to try on the menu for future visits and since we are often in the area to catch a movie I have no doubt we will be back.

A warm and inviting Indian restaurant in DTSS; waitstaff were just as warm and hospitable. The menu is vast, with mostly northern region dishes. They different vegan and vegetarian items, as well as food that contains nuts. We shared a fish pakora appetizer. It was fried tilapia strips floured and seasoned with many spices. The exterior was crispy and interior was tender and flaky. It came with a green cilantro based chutney. I had the basil infused salmon. 2 pieces of marinated salmon cooked in a tandoor oven and rolled in basil and parsley came out, accompanied by cilantro chutney, shredded red cabbage, cucumber slices and basmati rice. The fish was cooked to perfection, with basil flavor complementing the protein. My companion liked his fish curry. It was a mild bit flavorful gravy with slices of tilapia. The drinks (mango lassi and Pinot Grigio) were also very good with the meal.

The establishment is clean and comfortable. The service was great and the food was absolutely delicious. We came here because we were in silver spring for the day and someone on reddit recommended it. What a great spot. All the food was phenomenal - delicious, and flavorful. We got the butter chicken, lamb korma, and chicken tikka masala. My favorite and what the waiter recommended was the lamb korma! The butter chicken is a classic you can never go wrong with. And the chicken Tikka masala has a nice tomato flavor. The samosas were very delicious! We also got the cucumber drink and the tamarind margarita. Both were absolutely delicious, but might i say they tasted like there was not much alcohol in them. i still enjoyed both drinks regardless. Refreshing and flavorful. I would recommend this spot to anyone!

Who remembers catching up with friends, family and colleagues over Indian cuisine at lunch? Especially at a buffet? Vegan, vegetarian, can't decide, in a hurry, got hours to stuff your face? Finally found a go-to buffet spot! So why will this review not be about a buffet? They have three menus so I'm coming back on a Monday or Wednesday, when they have rice pudding. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays have a second menu. Sundays and Fridays have the third. Also, the menus clearly designate what is gluten-free. And it's most of the menu. Woohoo! Everything reviewed here is gluten-free. Chai was good and they offered to dialed back on the milk. TYSM! I was so pleased and excited to have palak chaat, which I affectionately call fried salad. This version had a lot of chopped dates and a little tamarind chutney. Delicious with no fuss. I like some yogurt and diced tomatoes and onions (AKA fuss) on mine so I hooked up the leftovers at home. Lamb was the choice that day. The grilled lamb chops were so succulent and well seasoned that I still think of the flavors. Aloo palak was fine. To me the spinach was a softer purée than usual, the potatoes leaned firm and the salt level was a tad high. Did I eat it? Yep! The lamb korma was pretty tasty. Less distinctive cashew flavor and some lamb was less tender. And other pieces were much softer. The basmati rice was delicious. I was offered more to take home. Please and thank you! I wanted to eat and drink more but I got full too fast. Won't make that mistake again when I go back for the "pick 3" buffet!!!

Generous dinner portions - we got samosas, bread, and two entrees- decided that one entree is enough for two people, though the leftovers were great. Good service, lovely place, quiet enough for conversation. Easy walk from AFI and the Fillmore for a date night!

The flavors were authentic, rich, and made with quality ingredients. Here is how the meal broke down: Samosa Chaat: This was a fantastic starter with a kick. The flavors worked so well together, especially with the mango chutney, it added a delicious sweet and tangy complement to the dish that I couldn't get enough of (I would love an extra side of that chutney next time!). My only critique was that the raw onions were a bit overwhelming, so I ended up having to pick some of them out to keep the dish balanced. Rosemary Garlic Naan: Absolute perfection! You can really taste the freshness of the herbs, garlic, and quality olive oil. It was fragrant, perfectly cooked, and elevates the standard naan experience. Lamb Korma: A standout main course. The korma was wonderfully rich with a distinct, delicious nutty flavor profile. It paired amazingly well with the rosemary garlic naan, making for a super satisfying combination.

My wife and I had been here for lunch before and had a good experience, so this time we figured why not check it out for dinner? Turns out, it was a great idea. The wait for the food was a bit on the longer end, but to be perfectly fair, we ordered a LOT, so we certainly didn't mind. By the time the food hit the table, we forgot about it almost entirely because the smells of freshly made kitfo, lamb tibs, and this stewed chicken dish whose name I can't remember (but it came with a hardboiled egg!) hit our nose, nothing else mattered. The food was presented in a way that somehow matched the overall vibe of the restaurant, which at this time of night was set to be kinda toned down with dingy lighting and smooth music. Huge call out to my waiter that I curse myself for not getting his name, because he is, simply put, the best server I've ever had at a restaurant. Not only was he timely and discreet about topping off our waters, but also checked in about soft drinks as well, and when he heard my son saying the food was too spicy for him, he took it upon himself to get him something else to eat that wasn't spicy at all, and without myself or my wife asking. If you're looking for a great place to eat with a killer atmosphere and even better service, you've found it.

It wasn't a platter type of night, but both Indian and Ethiopian cuisines have some great appetizers, so we stopped in after a movie. It was cool to see the breakdown of a vibey bar scene on one side and a sit down area on the other period both sides had the World Cup showing, so there was really no going wrong. The woman who greeted us led us to decide where we wanted to go. According to their hours, they are open until 1AM. We decided to get the stuffed naan basket, sambusas, and chicken momos -- A nice but fairly light spread for the evening. We or later told that they were finished with the naan basket... For an Indian restaurant more than 3 hours before they closed, that was surprising to me... I should have specified whether it was naan in general or just that basket, but still. The other two items came after 25 minutes or so. The sambusas were fried HARD, but had a great flavor. The momos were solid! We had a good time catching up, and they did great keeping water refilled (mostly). It took a while to close out -- they probably thought we were invested in the game and not in a hurry, but it's a weeknight and we were on Metro's time. I am curious about their proper Indian and Ethiopian entrees ... By the way, I saw a mouse right before we left... It was in the back on the dining room side past the tables.

The boneless chicken biryani puts me into the best food coma every time. It's SO flavorful, especially with all the little sauces on the side (Idk what they are called but I think one is the yogurt raita so yum). The saag paneer and butter chicken have never done me dirty either, and I'm so glad the chicken is actually tender and NOT dry. I order these three dishes as my holy trifecta all the time with a side of their garlic naan, which is some of the best I've had. I also love that they let you choose between Indian and American spice levels. Definitely appreciate having the option depending on my mood. If you plan to eat in, expect informal booth seating and Bollywood music videos playing on three different screens. Such a vibe, I highkey mess with it. My only con is that even if you dine in, they still serve everything in plastic takeout containers. That might actually be a plus for some people, but I've been trying to cut back on single-use plastic. Still... I can absolutely overlook it because the food is that good. I've highkey recommended this place to so many people and have put a bunch of friends onto it. I'll definitely keep coming back. :)

We ordered two appetizers to try them: Mulligatawny soup ($8.99) - a very nice portion came in a bowl accompanied with two cups/spoons. We each had at least two small cups of soup from the one portion. Excellent soup. Samosa Chaat - ($10.99) - another very nice sized portion for sharing. And also excellent. A bit spicy and very flavorful. Entrees: Lamb Shank - beautifully prepared. Accompanied by rice. We both were surprised it didn't come with some vegetables on the sauce (like a few carrots), but the lamb itself is very flavorful. Yellow Daal - it's good. I likely wouldn't get it again as it was fine, but not great. Nothing wrong with it, but everything else was so flavorful and distinctive that this just seemed "fine". Chilly Garlic Naan - should have gotten an order of regular naan or garlic naan. This was so spicy that it was unpleasant to eat. My partner and I both like spicy food, but the spiciness interfered with our enjoyment of our entrees.
