Really good! Everything tasted so fresh -- rich, but not oily the way some restaurant Indian food can be. Appropriately for a place called "Spice Street," the unique spices really shone through in each dish. I also liked how the menu featured a lot of dishes I'd never tried before, in addition to the classics. I got something called "Kadi Pakora", which was crispy vegetable fritters bathed in a light, yogurt-based curry sauce with some fragrant spices (mustard seed? IDK). So good. read more

I liked the food at this restaurant I had the cauliflower appetizer that was really good My friend had some sort of crab appetizer that was really good and then from my meal I had something with shrimp I forget what it was called but all very good unfortunately the restaurants and not have any heat we were pretty cold we got moved upstairs which was better read more

This place is a true gem! We've ordered delivery multiple times since they've opened (amid covid) and every time it's been a delight. They really amp up all of the typical flavors and take them to the next level. I can't wait to go there and dine in person, the ambiance looks great! read more

We ordered a birthday lunch from Spice Street, and it was mostly delicious. We ordered a lot of appetizers, then lamb vindaloo - excellent! The only clunker was chicken kofta, very hard and dry. We divided up the leftovers, and I happily ate mine for a couple of days. We did delivery, which was very fast. Next time we'll pick up, or better yet, eat in the restaurant! read more

EXTREMELY SMALL PORTION--I ordered a simple butter chicken for take out. The portion was incredibly small-it came in the plastic container that Thai restaurants use for a soup appetizer. And the rice was half of this size. The portion was only enough for one serving for one person! No seconds and no leftovers. When I order this dish from Methi, my favorite Indian place in Wheaton, I get three times this amount of food. TASTELESS--The dish at this Resturant is not the usual chicken tikka (chunks of chicken breasts) in butter sauce. It's made with plain, boneless chicken thighs that don't have a lot of flavor. The sauce was so mild I could barely taste any spice. To me, it tasted like "watered down" Indian food that is cooked for people who cannot handle the spices in authentic IndIan food. DISAPPOINTED--I've eaten Indian food in many cities and many countries and consider myself well-versed in the food, including the regional varieties. If a basic dish is this disappointing, it dissuades me from returnin. read more

This place is a gem. As an, erm, highly experienced diner and appreciator of Indian food, I am pleased to say that this is some of the best I've ever had. Everything was thoughtfully and perfectly seasoned, including the rice, which features cinnamon, star anise, cumin seeds, and other spices. As a vegetarian, I was overjoyed that one of the dishes somehow tasted just like chicken and dumplings. I can't wait to try some of their other offerings. Please patronize this business; we need to support food this good! read more

We got take out here during covid, and it was just unbelievably delicious. Among the best Indian food we've had. Some of the dishes seemed better to us than Rasika. It's unfortunate that they can't offer a fancy in-person presentation, which this food deserves. A lot of the flavors were ones I've rarely if ever tasted at an Indian restaurant, including some interesting Chinese fusion. We got all vegetarian, and enjoyed the potato patties, the dumpling appetizers, and the main dishes with cauliflower and pakora dumplings. The flavors were superb, and the very opposite of generic Indian mush that you get at cheaper places on Georgia avenue. Again, it seemed to us very similar to high-end Indian food downtown. Unfortunately, the menu isn't very well written, and has a lot of weird or unappetizing sounding stuff. A native English speaker should rewrite it for them. But don't be put off by anything! By our experience you really can't go wrong with anything here. Their online ordering system lets you order in advance and works well. Everything was done on time. read more

Wow finally a great Indian restaurant in downtown SS - every dish ordered from the crab Kathi rolls to samosas to cheese garlic naan to chicken vindaloo to Kheer rice pudding was excellent. Went with a group of 6 and was seated right away. Everyone loved the food. We kept ordering more. Highly recommend. Not that crowded in a Saturday night so hope it was an off night because want them to stay. Will be our new regular. read more

Superb. Excellent. Food is always fantastic and perfectly done. Staff are friendly and accommodating.

Having been a regular customer who places telephone orders at least weekly (sometimes twice per week), this restaurant has lost my business forever. I was dissatisfied with the puny amount of rice that is served with the main dish, and would usually ask for a little extra rice. Recently, they started charging me for a side of rice and the last time that they did so, I was told that I should specify that I just want a little extra rice and I would not be given a whole side and there would be no extra charge. Well, today I followed that advice. Lo and behold when I went to pick it up i had been given a side of rice and charged accordingly. Now I should mention that the "side" is actually what would be a reasonable amount to serve in the first place. When I objected, the server took out the smaller container and removed the extra charge. I was already at the end of the block when she came running behind me and asked me to come back in to the restaurant. She then explained that she had left me with the wrong serving of rice by mistake. I then asked to see the manager. They came back and said that he was in the bathroom. No one pretended that that was anything other than a lie. I then asked them to refund me the entire amount and left the meal there. As soon as I got home, I called the restaurant and asked for the manager. The person who answered identified himself as Navrat (sp), the manager. I started to tell him of my experience and he immediately began to talk over me. I said "sir, please let me finish what I am saying. He then said "Fxxx you" and hung up the phone. I am still shaking. read more

4.5 but rounding up! I have my usual go-to Indian restaurant but I thought I'd give Spice Street a try because I saw pani puri on the menu. And I wanted to help their business. But mostly it was the pani puri. So I ordered this (extremely expensive) street food snack as well as chicken makhani, bhindi bhaji (okra), and some garlic naan. I say the pani puri is extremely expensive because for the same quantity in India, I'd pay under $0.25 as opposed to $8 for this appetizer. But this is the DMV and I don't make it myself so I must pay the piper. The tamarind water it was served with was phenom and while I'd probably order it again, I'm more inclined to just learn how to make it. I loved the chicken makhani. The chicken was extremely tender and the sauce was loaded with spices. And by loaded with, I mean I was fishing large star anise and cardamom pods out of it so I didn't accidentally chew them up. But it was delicious - hence the strategically ordered garlic naan to scoop up that sauce Finally, the bhindi bhaji was amazing. Large pieces of okra with sautéed purple onions and tomato - and it had a little kick. I'd order that again, too. I wish I ordered more variety but since my family isn't really down for Indian food, I already knew I was making a few meals out of this order. Or so I thought. The only downside I have with this place compared to my usual spot in Bethesda is the portions. I found Spice Street's portions to be rather small but approximately the same price as competitors. read more

What happened!? I had a poor experience with the normally excellent food. I ordered again and again thinking it was maybe just not the best day but I'm sad to report the food is not the same and I've moved on. read more

Just had dinner from here. First - I applaud the bravery of opening up a restaurant in the middle of a pandemic. I really wish them luck. More importantly the food was fantastic. From the butter chicken to lamb methi and palak paneer - all were delicious. They seem to have there portion sizes figured out from early complaints. Seemed reasonable for the price and quality, especially if/when you are able to dine in safely (note they have a food tables for in restaurant dinning for those willing to do so - not us, yet). The only portion size complaint I have is the cauliflower fritter appetizer which only had four small pieces for $7. I laughed when I opened the container, $1.75 for each bite! But damn, they were so good, they were almost worth it. I can't believe the cauliflower appetizer was my favorite dish. You could double the size (8 pieces) for probably 5-10 cents cost to the restaurant and leave your customers a little more satisfied in terms of value for money, but otherwise thrilled at this new addition to DTSS read more

First timer. Great discovery! I was there for lunch with a friend. The food and service was exceptional. I had the chicken biriyani which is my new favorite. My friend and I shared vegetable samosas and garlic naan. All were absolutely delicious. Highly recommended! read more

I've been eagerly awaiting the opening of this spot and the food did not disappoint. I ordered online for pick-up: Crab Kathi Roll, Lasooni Gobi (cauliflower fritters), Vashno Manchurian (cabbage and peas dumpling), Murg Kajjuwala (chicken in cashew sauce), and Palak Paneer. The order was prepared in a timely manner. All the dishes had great bold flavors, especially the Lasooni Gobi and Murg Kajjuwala. The prices are fair and it will be my go-to Indian food spot in the downtown Silver Spring area! read more

This is the best Indian food I've had in town. I'm so glad they opened! I've never had chat before but loved it. The spinach chat was crispy and flavorful. The paneer was excellent as well as the scallops in coconut sauce. Naan was delicious too! We'll definitely be ordering again and I look forward to eating in person sometime in 2021! read more

This places has some of the best Indian food I have ever had. The flavoring is rich and complex. The naan is ethereal. Can't wait till I'm back in the area to go again. read more

This place didn't impress me. The portions were small and the food was bland. The container shows the amount of lamb biryani we received for $16. The garlic naan was so cold and didn't taste like toasted garlic at all. The best dish was actually the wings, which is the only thing I would return for but I'd have to order several of them to make it a family meal. With a bit of tweaking I'm sure this place can kick up the quality and portion size. It is truly a much needed addition to downtown Silver Spring. I do hope it succeeds. read more

Spice Street - Lamb biryani, a $16 dish was cold, flavorless and in a tiny container. - Indian Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

I got the Palak Tofu, lamb biryani, and Raita from here and all three were really good. I am pretty picky when it comes to good authentic Indian food and the food didn't disappoint. I'm excited that this opened up in downtown silver spring, the area definitely needed it. The food delivered earlier than the expected time which is always a plus. Definitely going to be ordering again. read more

Hands down, the best Indian food I've ever eaten, and that's coming from a North Indian. I didn't get a chance to take photos but everything was delicious. We had the usuals, somosas, chicken tikka masala which comes with rice, garlic naan, mint naan and lamb chops and falooda. The curry had whole spices and was amazing. Definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back again. read more

Very good food! Love that they serve dishes that aren't as well known and served at majority Indian restaurants. Great customer service, the waiter even gave us a free dessert! Beautiful restaurant, clean and nice ambiance. read more

Each takeout order we've gotten here has been better than the last. The cauliflower with crab and scallop dishes are especially good, though my husband and toddler love the lamb kabob too. The pickle side is just what I needed in this awful pandemic. And the rice is a highlight, strewn with pieces of star anise. read more

Been 4 times so far and ordered take-out twice; everything we ordered was super delicious! First time we went we had no idea what anything on menu was. Descriptions of each disk is short and simple. Waiter kindly made recommendations. We were blown away--everything was very tasty! After the 2nd visit we went to a couple high-end Indian restaurants in downtown DC with friends. While the food was very good, it came at a high cost which made the end of the evening not so joyful (cha-Ching!!) as I felt I paid more for the location and decor than for the food. At Spice Street you have high-end top notch food at very reasonable prices. It's new so the decor is very nice, trendy. It's also a great date-night venue--dark, cozy, romantic! They have space for family dining, too (I only know this because my neighbor has taken her husband and 4 kids there several times). It's a great addition to Silver Spring. Highly recommended. read more

What a wonderful place. We went there to celebrate my son's graduation and we all loved it and can't wait to go back. Love the food and very reasonably priced lunch special. The portion is so big that I'll end up having it for dinner.

Good food and service, however my chicken cafreal wasn't cooked all the way, raw chicken . Other food was pretty good.

I went with kind of a big group and we all really enjoyed the food. We had one vegan and two vegetarians and some meat eaters - and all were easily accommodated. The service was good and we sat at a nice back table. All in all a lovely meal. I recommend it highly. read more
