Samosa Chat

This one has been on my list for a few years now and I'm glad we finally tried it. The location in downtown silver spring near the movie theater makes it a solid choice for some Indian food before going taking in a movie. Here were our hits and misses: Spicy passion fruit: definitely spicy. More spicy from the jalapeno than the sour/sweet from the passion fruit. A hit if you like drinks with a kick! Dalchini: "good" (Highest level of praise from my husband) Samosa chaat: proportions of chutneys and chickpeas all perfect just needed some onions/tomatoes diced on top for texture and it would have been perfect. Lamb korma: thick delicious gravy and they Didn't skimp on lamb. Definitely a hit with my carnivore husband. Tofu chana masala: tastes just like Chole. Can't even taste the tofu as it isn't crisped up or anything it's just in there all soft and paneer-like. I actually wasn't sure about that but I tried it and it was lovely!! A hit for me and for anybody looking for a vegetarian friendly protein forward option . Something to note: There is construction going on so be sure to factor that in when trying to find parking as there are road closures/detours. We were seated pretty quickly and it was a busy Saturday evening for them. The portions are appropriate -- not too little and not too much; you really feel satisfied and it's just awesome they have some dishes with tofu. There's lots of other stuff to try on the menu for future visits and since we are often in the area to catch a movie I have no doubt we will be back.

A warm and inviting Indian restaurant in DTSS; waitstaff were just as warm and hospitable. The menu is vast, with mostly northern region dishes. They different vegan and vegetarian items, as well as food that contains nuts. We shared a fish pakora appetizer. It was fried tilapia strips floured and seasoned with many spices. The exterior was crispy and interior was tender and flaky. It came with a green cilantro based chutney. I had the basil infused salmon. 2 pieces of marinated salmon cooked in a tandoor oven and rolled in basil and parsley came out, accompanied by cilantro chutney, shredded red cabbage, cucumber slices and basmati rice. The fish was cooked to perfection, with basil flavor complementing the protein. My companion liked his fish curry. It was a mild bit flavorful gravy with slices of tilapia. The drinks (mango lassi and Pinot Grigio) were also very good with the meal.

The establishment is clean and comfortable. The service was great and the food was absolutely delicious. We came here because we were in silver spring for the day and someone on reddit recommended it. What a great spot. All the food was phenomenal - delicious, and flavorful. We got the butter chicken, lamb korma, and chicken tikka masala. My favorite and what the waiter recommended was the lamb korma! The butter chicken is a classic you can never go wrong with. And the chicken Tikka masala has a nice tomato flavor. The samosas were very delicious! We also got the cucumber drink and the tamarind margarita. Both were absolutely delicious, but might i say they tasted like there was not much alcohol in them. i still enjoyed both drinks regardless. Refreshing and flavorful. I would recommend this spot to anyone!

Who remembers catching up with friends, family and colleagues over Indian cuisine at lunch? Especially at a buffet? Vegan, vegetarian, can't decide, in a hurry, got hours to stuff your face? Finally found a go-to buffet spot! So why will this review not be about a buffet? They have three menus so I'm coming back on a Monday or Wednesday, when they have rice pudding. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays have a second menu. Sundays and Fridays have the third. Also, the menus clearly designate what is gluten-free. And it's most of the menu. Woohoo! Everything reviewed here is gluten-free. Chai was good and they offered to dialed back on the milk. TYSM! I was so pleased and excited to have palak chaat, which I affectionately call fried salad. This version had a lot of chopped dates and a little tamarind chutney. Delicious with no fuss. I like some yogurt and diced tomatoes and onions (AKA fuss) on mine so I hooked up the leftovers at home. Lamb was the choice that day. The grilled lamb chops were so succulent and well seasoned that I still think of the flavors. Aloo palak was fine. To me the spinach was a softer purée than usual, the potatoes leaned firm and the salt level was a tad high. Did I eat it? Yep! The lamb korma was pretty tasty. Less distinctive cashew flavor and some lamb was less tender. And other pieces were much softer. The basmati rice was delicious. I was offered more to take home. Please and thank you! I wanted to eat and drink more but I got full too fast. Won't make that mistake again when I go back for the "pick 3" buffet!!!

Generous dinner portions - we got samosas, bread, and two entrees- decided that one entree is enough for two people, though the leftovers were great. Good service, lovely place, quiet enough for conversation. Easy walk from AFI and the Fillmore for a date night!

Love the food. We ate inside and concerned that none of staff was wearing mask. Wondered if cooks were masked when preparing food.

About two blocks from the main cross-streets of Downtown Silver Spring. Worth the brief walk to…read morecome for dinner. It was a nice evening and we decided to sit outside. For starters, we got the New England Clam Chowder and an order of Chickpea Fries. New England Clam Chowder - definitely a chowder and not a soup (heavy cream base) with a nice flavor and a healthy amount of clam bits. Chickpea Fries - A nice portion of well prepared fries. Nice crunch on the outside, but moist on the inside. Well seasoned and not oily. Comes with ketchup and an avocado lime ranch, which was ok. It's a huge portion and we took most of it home to enjoy later. Good use of chickpeas. Branzino - This is a whole fish split in half. Pretty easy to remove the bones oneself. The skin was nice and crunchy with the meat inside moist. Well prepared. I'm not a huge fan of dill and I think the seasoning of dill is a bit overdone here. (I'm pretty sure it's dill. Whatever it is, it's too heavy for me and detracts from the meal.). The wild rice side dish is very good. Lobster Roll - Excellent. My partner ordered this and the only comment was that the large was very big and next time they likely would get the small one. Lots of delicious, cold lobster meat. The fries also were excellent. The service overall was very good. Our food was served at an appropriate rate (apps, then main, which seems not to be important at a lot of restaurants these days) and the water service was excellent. Recommend this restaurant. I probably would not get the Branzino again because of the heavy dill seasoning, but there are other items in the menu that look interesting.

My party had a 12:30 reservation. We were seated promptly. Unfortunately, the first thing we…read morenoticed was an overwhelming smell of fish. Seafood restaurant, so to a degree it is understandable, but it was initially off putting. Servers were friendly but not overly efficient. Service was not bad but it also was not great. My mushroom sandwich with garden salad was fine. Like my perception of Silver Spring, it was the stereotypical 3 star meal. Ingredients were fresh. Preparation was adequate but unremarkable. Flavor was ok. Lunch was fine. No one got sick. No one will remember the meal. No one will regret the meal.

WOW !!!! Motorkat is amazing... found this place literally on a humble and I want to personally…read moresing their praises because it hit different. No fanfare, no bells & whistles whatsoever ( that comes with other restaurants) .... Just absurdly delicious food with a super chill, laid back atmosphere. The food is 6 1/2 stars out of 5 !!! Act 1: 1/2 dozen of mixed oysters from the local regions. And hands down these were the freshest, chilled oysters I have had... I'm what one would call an oyster enthusiast on every level... and Motorkat served the best bed of oysters I've ever tasted ( and I don't say that lightly ) Act 2: Branzino, potatoes and black rice. The branzino was cooked to perfection and seasoned to an "OMG" level ! Fluffy with a savory sauce to complement the entire dish. The potatoes were the perfect platter filler and did its part to blend everything together. Now for reasons unknown I substituted for the black rice... and this was a next level adjustment because this rice is so good. Never indulged until this day and now I'm addictive because the texture and taste are very unique ( absolutely scrumptious ) Now the food was certainly the highlight... but I must commend their entire staff for doing an amazing job at making sure my night was a pleasurable and seamless experience. To my server and host Andrea who handled things in a professional and pleasant manner with a dazzling smile on her face the entire time !! I will not allow this gem to be hidden no more... because Motorkat is a truly special restaurant ( don't believe me... well see for yourself !!! )

Cute neighborhood spot was busy on a Friday night. We got the curried fried chicken, seafood stew,…read moresunchokes, and wasabi oyster shooters. Fried chicken definitely lacked a salt but was nice and crispy. Could've used more curry flavor on the chicken itself and mee didn't think there was enough sauce on the plate either. I think maybe something else besides rice would have paired better. Seafood stew was tasty and had lots of various fish. Suggest pairing it with some bread too. Wasabi and yuzu oyster shooters were tasty but I wasn't the biggest fan of the specific oyster type. Drink was good. Banoffee trifle was a nice sweet treat. Tasted mainly of cream and dulce but would have preferred more crunch and bananas.

The restaurant has great communication when you make reservations they texted me a code for their free parking about two hours before my reservation although when I got there, there was a man in a booth inside the entrance and told me no code was needed. There was plenty of parking as I had an early reservation for brunch, even though when I left, there was still a lot of parking available so I parked near the elevator that takes you directly up to the entrance. I sat at a table just passed a hostess stand, looking onto Colesville Road. It was pleasant. My waiter, Jhoiner was very pleasant and very professional. He explained how the buffet line worked and took an order from me for a cheese omelette ( they were out of mushrooms). I started with a maid to order waffle while I waited for my omelette, and it was probably my favorite thing at the buffet! They had a variety of toppings, but I just went with strawberries, maple syrup, and powdered sugar. The French toast was also good but nothing out of the ordinary. I had a little bit of all the things I loved, and I was extremely full after an hour. I did however, save room for one of their tiny lemon, posset desserts. They serve this at their sister restaurant in Silver Spring so I was excited to end my meal with this dessert. Tip is automatically added. Even though the menu stated that the tip was 18%, they added 20. I'm not going to fuss over 2% because I was happy with my service. I'm looking forward to coming back for happy hour in the near future.

We decided to try a little bit of everything from the appetizer menu. Lamb Meatballs -- 4/10: Good flavor, but unfortunately they were cold. Korean-Style Ribs -- 7/10: Not enough meat, but the sauce was really good and I loved how crispy they were. Wagyu Sliders -- 9/10: Delicious! I just wish they had a little more sauce. Buttermilk Fried Oysters -- 8/10: Really good, and I especially loved the dipping sauce. Crabcakes -- 10/10: Every single one was perfect. Easily my favorite thing we ordered! The restaurant got pretty packed, which I expected because of the all-night happy hour. Just keep in mind that the happy hour is only honored at the bar. The staff was cool, the restaurant itself is really nice, and the bathrooms were surprisingly clean. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely stop by again!
