We were at Mt. Airy Casino Resort for the July 4th weekend. One of the nights, we decided to order food from this restaurant as we were craving Indian food. The food here is very spicy, so be aware before you order. We ordered the following: - Bhel: this was very dry and not flavorful. - Malai Kofta: this was decent. Hold up there is a new Indian place in town! Even more exciting is the fact that they service Indo-Chinese and Indo-Thai dishes along with traditional Indian offerings. If fusion Indian food is new to you, think of it as a hybrid of Indian food and Chinese or Thai. This style of cooking is very famous in India but is hard to come by in most place in the US. Hence it was a nice surprise learning about Spice Route. We walked in and were told there was a 40 min wait, which we utilized by the doing some grocery shopping at the nearby Giant. We were seated in about 30 mins. First thing we noticed was the modern and simple decor. Additionally the table was clean and water was delivered promptly. As part of our grocery excursion one of our group members picked up a bottle of wine which the server graciously uncorked for us. The menu is detailed and provides a description for all items. Our group ended up ordering a variety of dishes and loved them all. The restaurant owner stopped by to chat and was very friendly and encouraged trying new dishes. Portions are large and most come with a side of rice which is nice (unlike another restaurant in the area). Our food took awhile to come but there was a note in the menu about everything being cooked to order and that takes time. The restaurant was also packed which was a great sign of how popular they are. When it is time to pay your bill, the server comes straight to your table with a Cc machine which makes it fast and easy. We are already excited about our next visit. My husband and I were staying at a hotel nearby for a wedding and ordered for delivery. The food was amazing, which I say as a fan of Indian cuisine who lives in Queens, NY. I got the palak paneer and aloo gobi with jasmine rice. I was so glad our hotel had a mini fridge and microwave because the leftovers were just as good for lunch the next day! Very disappointed in the meal. I'm Indian and the food was not appetizing at all. We got the most basic things like chicken tikka, paneer chilli and garlic chilli naan. The naan however was editable but the rest of the meal was horrible. The curry tasted straight up like rotten tomatoes and chili paneer smelled and was sour. We ordered food for our college reunion this weekend. Spice Route delivered 100 out of 100. Food was excellent. Their garlic naan was the best I have ever had and their tandoori chicken can beat any Michelin Indian chef out of the park. I have eaten at top Indian restaurants in NYC and the food at Spice Route can beat any of those places. We might just visit Poconos to eat here again! The service was excellent too. read more

Was so excited to hear there was an indian place in the poconos because i loveee indian food so i was sad when my vindaloo did not taste the way i thought it should/used to. Not the places fault but a really loud, obnoxious group was there when the rest of the restaurant is nice and quiet and even looks a bit more date like upscale in the back half. It made it hard to enjoy the meal. Also our service was ok they guy who came out with our dishes was the friendliest. We asked what tandori is since my dad has never had it and i didn't know how to properly describe it but the guy did not really give us a helpful answer besides that it is cooked in an oven. It's been a week since I visited Spice Route and I am still thinking about how good their food was! I live in NYC and occasionally make trips to the Poconos area to visit family. I would say about every 3 to 4 months. Every time I go I make it a point to try something different to eat since we don't have to pay for our stay at our relatives' house in Tobyhanna. We had the Garlic Naan and Avocado fritters for appetizers. For entrees we had the Chicken Pad Thai and the Chicken Tikka Masala ... and it was the best Pad Thai and Tikka Masala i had ever had!!! If we weren't traveling so far I would have ordered an extra order to go to bring home with me! It's a definite must have and we are definitely going back to Spice Route when we visit the Poconos again in October!! read more
